Hi all,
My Transformer Prime will not boot past the initial Asus screen. It's remains stuck on this screen but when I hold power down, the device reboots. I am not able to get into recovery using power and vol down, then vol up. I cant turn the device off, it reboots every time. When I try to hold vol down while rebooting, the normal white writing doesn't appear, it just continues in the same loop at the Asus screen. I dont even get as far as the EeePad splash screen. I'm at a loss for what to try. I can get into recovery or fastboot and it wont connet to the pc. Am I screwed? All of the advice I can find needs recovery etc. The problem started when I tried to wipe the device. Could it have deleted the recovery image, rom etc? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

First, this belongs in q&a or general. Your problems have nothing to do with development.
Secondly, I posted a link a while back in the EOS3 ROM thread in reference to recovering from the exact scenario . The post includes which tools, drivers, and the process in detail on how I recovered down to the command for fast boot flashing the recovery ( which had a specific value for the device ).
EDIT:
Here is my detailed post. Try that and see if fastboot works for you. I was literally in the exact same boat not terribly long ago.

Aso I forgot to ask.... were you already on a JB boot loader? If you were on ICS, make sure you download the ICS blob for twrp from the link and not the JB blob. That's crucial because if you flash the wrong recovery, you are screwed lol.

But here you say you can access recovery and fastboot which you would not be able to if what you said first was true.

He likely wiped all of his partitions ( including recovery ) like I did by accident. Fast boot was a pain in the arse for me until I used the -i command along with the new drivers. Hopefully my post resolved his issue.

Thank you for your response so far and apologies for putting the thread in the wrong section. The instructions given were great, only I am unable to get into fastboot. When I try and turn on the device holding vol down, it just boots normally. It doesn't give me the white writing and options I had before. I can't seem to turn the device off either. When I hold the power button it reboots, but doesn't shut down. What can I try to get into fast boot?
Thanks

Did you do the nvflash process at any time and keep the blob files?
If you didn't and you cannot get to fastboot then I'm afraid that you are hard bricked

No I didnt do the Nvflash. I unlocked and rooted a while ago, before nvflash was around and havent looked back since. Has anyone ever heard of fastboot being deleted? Ive always been able to get into it.

Try holding the down and power button while its on to force shut down, then keep holding volume down as it reboots?
Also, what were you in the process of doing right before the issues began? Did you install something with a different bootloader? You could have wiped bootloader which means you are hosed . . . ..

I've tried holding the buttons down while it reboots but nothing happens. If I hold the vol up and vol down while pressing power, the device turns off completely.
The problem started when I tried a factory reset in CWM. It crashed after a few seconds and the device rebooted. Not there doesnt appear to be anything on the device. I havent heard of CWM doing this before.

Without fastboot and nvflash there is no hope for recovery except for calling asus and requesting an RMA.
It sounds like your device has the boot to recovery flag, but with a broken recovery, something which the bootloader has no exit path from.

Without a bootloader you will not get any output from the device, the bootloader is what displays the asus splash screen. Without it the device would just drop into apx mode.

This is probably a silly question but if I send it back to asus for rma should I just claim complete ignorance as to how this happened? Or should I come clean? Has anyone done a rma before? Any idea of time scales or cost etc? Thanks

Do not lie but don't tell the whole truth if you know what I mean
Don't go into too much info and get straight to the point, also don't show any technical knowledge.
"It doesn't turn on any more, it just flashes on a screen showing Asus".
"It wont turn off"
If you are lucky and they just look at it and not check what has happened they might just switch motherboard rather than messing with it.
Also try to run the battery out first. Harder to check
You shouldn't be covered at all because you agreed to that when you unlocked, but you might get lucky while staying truthful
p.s. I find my grandmother can get away with it more than me

I was wondering if there was a way of going back to the stock recovery from CWM? I have rooted my prime and unlocked the boot loader. Was wondering if I needed to return the tab if someone noticed CWM that they may give me a problem returning.
if you mean returning to a store, they will never check the recovery, probably would only check that it boots at all if even that

Ok, thanks
Wrong actually. Use the method to downgrade to any of the Asus releases - using dd on the blob file, that overwrites the recovery with the stock one
I have to do this when going back to stock from CM9 since the kernel doesn't flash. I have to re-root and re-flash CWM each time since the blob method overwrites system, boot, recovery, and maybe one or two other things

I am not sure of the full ramifications of doing the blob thing over anything other than the stock rom. You will want to find the thread in the dev section that talks about loading any version of the stock rom that you want.
i believe applying a official blob file after being unlocked/cwm'ed will get you a bricked Prime. i hope none of you have a brick these days.
Hey guys.. I'm trying not to start a new thread if I can help it as I'm sure my answer is here somewhere.. but ...
Can't seem to boot into recovery. I installed CWM using the viper tool and got successful messages but button combo doesn't work to enter recovery. Nor does Rom Manager work to reboot recovery. I've also tried flashing recovery via RM and got successful but still unable to boot into CWM. Tried installing touch recovery via RM.. got succesfull, and it even says what my current recovery is but no matter what I try I am unable to boot into CWM.
I feel like its not installed but according to RM my current recovery is 5.8.x.x
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I had a lot of problems when I was on the non-touch version of CWM. It would do the button combo correctly but it would only boot to recovery about one time in five. Very frustrating, but it got a lot better when I chanced to touch CWM for some reason.
Gotta ask this but are you doing the button combo correctly? When you press power + vol down do you see the white text telling you that you have bot 5 sec to press vol up? When you press vol up, what happens? When I was having problems with this I would see the white text, press vol up then the screen would go black for about 10 sec then it would reboot.

That's part of the problem.. I have no idea if I'm doing the button combo right because nothing is happening. I've tried pressing power button and vol down until I see text.. never shows though. I feel a buzz or vibrate but no text so i continue holding down buttons until eventually i realize I've been holding the buttons down for a really long time and it's time to accept its not working so I let go. Ive also tried just pressing volume down..(thought I read that somewhere).. nothing ever happens but a buzz or vibrate. No text ever appear.
btw, thank you for the reply! you have no idea how many times I tried yesterday/last night. I'm up an atom, and back at it.. beats me though..

Unfortunately I don't have my Prime in front of me since I am at work so I'll see if I can remember . From power off press the power button until it vibrates, release it then quickly press and hold power and vol down. When you are on the Eee Pad splash screen you should some text at the top left saying that you have 5 sec to press vol up to enter RCK (or something...). Release and press vol up and you should be in.
Hit my thanks button if it works. If not, this is beyond my limited capabilities and you should find someone more knowledgeable Good luck!

flashed a mod, stuck in boot-loop,
want to boot back into CWM, but I can't seem to do it.
I can get into download mode, but if I hold up + power it just does a weird vibrate once a second and never boots into anything.
Am I missing something here or how can I either get adb to recognize it (sometime in the boot sequence or download mode) or boot straight into cwm?
In lieu of an expert, I think you need to release buttons after vibrate
Assuming you have correct buttons, I have seen up+/home/pwr to boot into recovery, but that may be from pwr off state
Well I finally got it.
Had cmd open and kept hitting up then enter then up then enter on the adb reboot recovery command really fast throughout the boot-loop, when the att logo came up it caught it and rebooted right into CWM.
I wish I knew how to hard-boot this thing into recovery, but I guess that ghetto adb worked for now, lol.

oh I didni't know about home, Jesus christ you gotta have some fingers to hit all three of those buttons across this damn phone, lol.
It kept going to boot-loop when I released, I'll try again just for practice some time with the capacitive home button this time.
Glad you got it
I am not hands on with this gem yet, but have been scouring everything I can find to learn more on it--just too much time still on TMO contract. I want ATT with it, since my TMO coverage here in Dayton Oh seems spotty, at least on my N1 running ICS.
Saw a guy in the hospital waiting room surfing web on a Samsung, couldn't tell model or carrier, should have asked. I had no data connection at all. Sucks--

I wasn't stuck in a bootloop or anything, just wanting to do backups before I really started tweaking my phone. But I used this method as well. Couldn't figure out the button combo so just did it in adb.
Use quickboot since you got root to boot into recovery in future
It's both volume keys + power to boot into recovery.

Hello,
Last night I downloaded (from xda), and installed CM 10.1 on CWM 5.8.3.4...all seemed to go well, until I rebooted the system. Now my prime will not boot past the Eee Pad screen..I think it is because I didn't have a JB BL? But, I don't know how to get a JB BL.
I re-downloaded CM 9.1, and put it on m Micro SD card from my NOTE 2, but the Prime won't recognize the external SD in CWM.
How can I fix this?
Also, my PC will NOT recognize my prime at all, it doesn't even show up in the device manager...so I can do adb.
thanks!

You need access to fastboot and this is an easy fix.
Either try your prime in a different computer and see if you can get it to show up or it is possible that your cable is faulty and will need to get a new one off ebay.

Hold down power button and volume down for 10-15 seconds until you get to the screen where there are icons on it (wipe, usb icon etc)
Use volume down to go to the usb icon and then press volume up. It will say entering fastboot mode and freeze on your screen. This is normal and you are in fastboot mode. Now go to device manager and see if you have any devices there.

Personally I wouldn't even use cwm on the prime. Can you please tell me what the numbers are up the top of the screen when you get to the screen with the icons. It will either start with a 9 or a 10. Also tell me where your nvidia logo is. Bottom center or bottom right when you turn it on.

That should only take a few seconds to flash. Once it works correctly you would go in the same way as CWM.
I don't like the fact that it has stuck mid flash tho.

This isn't making much sense at the moment. The old way used to be to hold power and volume down and you would get a message saying press volume up within 5 seconds to get into recovery. The new way became that you had an icon in the same place as fastboot and wipe data that said rck and you would press up on that to get into recovery.
You are not even getting the press up to enter recovery any more before getting to the 2 icons ? I'm still a little bit worried about this flash failing earlier.
Anyone's help would be FANTASTIC!
I downloaded and installed LiquidSmooth 2.6.5 on 06/15/13 wiped everything necessary, went to reboot and it said i wasnt rooted would i like to install SuperSU, i installed it and it rebooted to a black screen and wont go any further. all it does is vibrate every couple of seconds. Is there ANYTHING i can do to get back into TWRP recovery? stock recovery? flash the stock image with Odin? it wont boot into TWRP, or download mode.
Please help, might have bricked my hard earned Verizon S4
Hi,
I've recently just installed the TeamWin Recovery Project.
my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 has been rooted, and I even checked with some application on the Google Play market, and it has indicated that it indeed was rooted.
But I still kept on getting the annoying "some application need attention blah blah blah..." in the notification bar, and when I click it it gave me options reboot now or reboot later.
Of course I clicked "reboot now" and after a while, I messed up on my cyananogen mod I guess and I recovered using TWRP through a back up that I have already made prior to flashing the CM 10.1. And it was working normally.
Then I some how went to the TWRP again and it said that my phone wasn't rooted any longer! So I swiped the "root the device now" knob thing and ever since then it has been stuck in the "samsung" screen with the unlocked labeled as "custom" underneath.
Even if I try to do Volume Up + Power + Home button it doesn't send me back to the TWRP screen, rather I see the indication that TWRP has been initiated, but it just crashes and turns my phone off.
When I do Volume down + Power + Home button I can get to the Download mode, but it doesn't seem like my computer can recognize the device.
After the Download page and I push the Volume Up button for the actual download mode on the top left it says
Odin Mode
Product name: SCH-I545
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
CSB-OEM_Config-LSB: 0x30
Write Protection: Enable"

And when I do get to this point my computer does recognize the phone and I know this by hearing the usb connection sound that a computer makes.
How do I get my phone back to factory state so that I can maybe once again trying rooting it again?
Thanks in advance.
and I apologize for so much information even if the rules say that I should be brief as possible, but it felt like the details were needed. (correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm having the exact same issue. Just rooted today and then using CWM I formatted and installed liquidsmooth. After rebooting it just vibrates. I tried going into Odin by pressing volume down+up+home+power and it just vibrates. Have I ruined the phone?

I can't get into the download/odin screen. When I press power + home + volume down it just vibrates.
I don't understand how I could have hard-bricked the phone just by formatting.
Just before rebooting, CWM prompted me "saying root access might be lost" and I hit ignore.

Boot phone into ODIN mode (power off the phone, then press and hold Vol Down + Power then press Vol Up). I think you might have done it wrong.

Thanks DarkMenace. I was able to restore my phone. For some weird reason it refused to go in Odin mode if I didn't have a USB cable plugged in.
I used the stock image, just wondering if I'm still rooted?

I have the same issue after flashing Liquid-JB-v2.5-OFFICIAL-d2vzw yesterday 6/19/13. Wiped everything, factory reset, hit reboot, it said my device appeared not to be rooted and asked if i would like to install SuperSU. I said yes to install it. When my device rebooted, I got a black screen and my phone won't go any further. It just vibrates, every 2 or 3 seconds. I can get it into download mode. I tried to flash the stock firmware back onto it but when it reboots after, it goes back to black screen and vibrate. Thanks.

Just curious on something.... Not trying to be a jerk. Why are you sending pm's instead of replying in the thread? If your pm is helping this person I'm sure it could help many people if it was in the thread. Unless your a Verizon employee with secret unbricking files or something

Responded to you via PM as to not start any issues here.
I am in a similar situation, I am able to get into Odin mode, though my model number is SCG-I545 if that makes a difference.

alright guys, so here's the story. just yesterday i bought a brand new lg v10, got it home and the first thing i did was root the device and used ADB to load TWRP following the instructions here on SDA to a T for the ROOT/RECOVERY setup. and it worked. all was fine and dandy, the first time i booted into TWRP via ADB after root i got in, flashed a debloated ROM + xposed and again, everything went fine.. loaded into the OS of the new ROM, went through setup, turned on USB debugging, clicked always allow this computer, installed xposed app yadayadayada. I then, using ADB again, loaded into TWRP. i created a backup there just in case something went wrong with the changes i was about to make and once the backup was complete i loaded back in to the OS. at this point i thought i had done everything right and was confident that if i made system changes that didn't work out i could just flash the phone with TWRP from the backup i made. right? WRONG! ...apparently... so anyways, i made my first change, which was to use a NONROOT app called texdroider or whatever to change my DPI (as i have done with a couple phones previously without much issue) but i didn't take into account that stupid second screen... making the DPI changes system wide, as i'm sure those of you that know this phone are aware, causes the systemUI to crash with an error.. making the OS unusable.. so i tried to load into TWRP by holding the volume down and power button.. but instead it just booted me to the factory recovery.. not TWRP... the phone is unusable within the OS, i can't get the phone to connect to adb to boot into twrp as i had previously, i can't seem to get the phone into download mode, and i can't boot to TWRP and the OS is junk at this point.. but it DOES say on the "LG" screen that the bootloader is unlocked so i'm really hoping i'm not completely out of luck.. but i am not sure what to do at this point. does anyone here know of anything i can try to get into a custom recovery at this point? if i could get into TWRP my SD card in the phone has a backup, the original image, not to mention i could pull the SD card and add anything i need via my pc and then boot back to twrp etc etc and i would have no issue fixing the phone... i really don't understand what i did wrong or why i can't boot to my custom recovery but i'm at a loss.. i'm just looking for a way to force the phone into a custom recovery... or restore the original factory image.. if you have any advice at all i would really appreciate it.
Thanks for reading
**UPDATE** this may or may not make things much easier... but I got download mode working!! so at least there's that, still no custom recovery and i'm currently looking for a KDZ or TOT file to flash via lg flash tool... hopefully that makes things easier..
When you say you got to the factory recovery, what was that, an Android on its side or something asking you to factory reset your device? If it was the factory reset screen, if you select yes and then yes, it will take you to TWRP if you have it installed. If you don't it will factory reset your device.

To boot into recovery from power off, you hold volume down & power. When you see the LG logo release and press power while continuing to hold volume down. Then as said above, it come up as a factory reset, select yes each time, and it should boot into twrp, providing you installed it correctly.

it was a screen asking me to do a factory reset, i click yes, it asks to confirm, i click yes again and then it "successfully" factory resets my phone... it shows the android factory reset symbol that its resetting, then says that its "optimizing apps" and goes through that whole process.. but when it finally loads the "welcome" screen (so i know for a fact that some sort reset has taken place) i get the same "systemui has crashed" error and the OS is unusable and won't connect to my computer.. idk why i can't access TWRP.. i booted to it 3 times before this happened, though never by the hardware buttons on the phone.. everytime i booted to TWRP i had used ADB to boot to TWRP.. what makes me the most sad is that i have a nandroid backup on my SD card... but i can't flash it without recovery.. which i can't install on the phone without getting into the OS..
is there any way to install TWRP or even boot to a temporary TWRP so that i can do so? if i can flash my nandroid i'm saved.. if i can get into a custom recovery i'm saved.. if i can find a .kdz file to flash, i'm saved... if i can get my phone to be recognized by my computer/adb i'm saved.... there simply has to be a way to unbrick this phone...

well i seem to have somehow NOT installed TWRP correctly because it just proceeds to factory reset my phone.. which for some odd reason doesn't reset the DPI... leaving me stranded... is there any way to get ADB to see my device in its present state? my computer makes the device recognition noise when i enter download mode and i can see it in device manager but not my computer or ADB
I've had this phone just over 2 months but I'm not positive, is download mode the same as the bootloader on this device? If so, fastboot commands should work, and you can flash TWRP again, or do 'fastboot boot TWRP_filename' and it will boot TWRP temporarily.
Oh, and the factory reset just wipes your data, but otherwise doesn't restore your system to factory state. That's why your dpi change remained.

dude.. then what good is a factory reset?!? like seriously... and yeah, i tried that but i can't get adb to connect in download mode.. the device doesn't show up when I type "adb devices" like it did when i first rooted it. ... and i thought i followed the instructions exactly as it was laid out from this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-v10/general/guide-how-to-root-lg-v10-easy-t3274699
i think somewhere in there i must have missed something and ended up only booting into twrp temporarily.. which is certainly possible since i never boot to twrp during that initial process from the hardware keys or soft keys.. always through adb.. the phone was already plugged in.. typing the command was a couple keys away..
is there anyway to get TWRP on to the phone now? or am i screwed :'(
Well, it is a factory restore for the average user, because the average person isn't modifying their system. But no, I'm sure you're not screwed. If you're in the bootloader you can't use adb, you're already past that step, so you can skip to the fastboot part. What happens when you type fastboot devices? If the phone shows up then you can either fastboot flash or boot TWRP..

from what screen should i be attempting this? hold volume up with phone off and plug in to computer to enter download mode? should i try it at the factory reset screen (volume down plus power)? those are the only two screens i seem to have access to.. in download mode my pc/adb just doesn't recognize the phone.. it doesn't show up as a proper device like it did before this whole thing and in that factory reset mode i get nothing.. the download mode seems like its built for LG and runs from different drivers because in device manager it shows up with an error code that it couldn't start the device (this was not the case when i was using adb to unlock the bootloader and then using the bootloader to boot to TWRP..) what am i missing?
and hey, thank you so very much for taking time out of your day to help me. I really do appreciate it.

No problem buddy, and sorry for the confusion. You want to be on the bootloader screen, so here is what you can do: turn the phone off(or remove the battery if you have to, and put it back in), plug the usb cable into the computer only(not phone), hold volume down on phone, plug the usb cable into the phone. That should get you into the bootloader, and then you should be able to fastboot flash or fastboot boot TWRP.

I'm pretty sure others have come through this exact situation unharmed (I've pretty much read every thread here.) so it's only a matter of time before you get this figured out.
Here's hoping it's sooner than later.
Sorry I can't offer more besides encouragement!

@ngoblirsch Along with the information provided in these suggestions and what you have said, you need to reinstall your LG/fastboot drivers on your PC while in fastboot mode

OH DEAR GOD THANK YOU!!!!
I spent all damn day yesterday trying to figure out how to get to the bootloader on this phone.. everything i read online said to hold volume down PLUS power while plugging it in and it was NOT working lmao. dude, thank you so much. after i read that comment here it took me about 30 seconds to connect to adb and boot to TWRP. Well I appreciate the encouragement, it sure seems to have helped! Issue has been resolved. ended up that i just didn't know the hardware key combination to get to the bootloader/fastboot mode without being already connected to adb. nothing that i could find online said to hold volume down while plugging it in to a computer. as soon as i was able to do so i connected to adb and it was a breeze from there; I am now back with an OS AND a customer recovery properly installed on the device!! I will be hanging around these forums for as long as i have this phone so i'm sure i'll bump into you guys! absolutely love the community here on XDA, you guys are freaking awesome!!
