Hey guys,
I was horrified when I fired up Play Music and saw that it was trying to cache tracks to the onboard NAND instead of my 64GB SD card so I raged a bit in IRC and did a cursory google search. The idea for my method comes from XDA user "skittles" in this post; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29063122&postcount=1
I edited the script post to be compatible with the AT&T variant of the LG Optimus G.
The command it runs is "mount -o bind /sdcard/external_sd/MusicCache/ /data/data/com.google.android.music/"
INSTRUCTIONS taken from skittles' thread:
Prerequisite: copy the .txt attached to this post to the root of the internal NAND flash, i.e. /sdcard/. Then make a folder in the root of your external_sd called "MusicCache." without the quotes or period.
1. Using whatever task manager you have or just go into settings->apps->running, close google play music.
2. Open your file manager and browse to /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.music/cache and delete all of the files found in music dir and artwork dir in this directory. This is very important step. If you do not delete your cache then your files will take up space but will no longer be available after this process.
3. Go to the google play store and install script manager - Smanager. Open smanager, and on first open you should see an option to select root, check that option and click ok and make sure to grant root to the app when the su dialog appears.
4. In Smanager browse to the root of your sdcard and click on and hold the "MusicScript.txt" to open a options dialog. Select "open as" and then select "Script/Executable".
Then Select "Su" and "Boot" and hit save.
5.. Go to settings app->apps->google play music-> and hit clear data.
6. Reboot your phone.
Open up google play music and click on Choose on device music, and you should see the total space available equal to what is available on your external SD Card
I did it like that and it works fine, please try it out and let me know if it works similarly well for the rest of y'all.
Thanks to fiddy619 and skittles!!!

Didn't work for me. When I log back into Google Music, the cache is cleared but the free space is free on-board memory not sd card.
What exactly did you do? Please be as detailed as possible.

To begin: I'm rooted, unlocked and running the debloated Base 0.4 Rom.
This is what I tried to get the music to cache to the sd card:
1. Downloaded the script from your previous post and saved it to a folder on my sd card.
2. Downloaded Smanager and granted it root access.
3. In Smanager I browsed for the script on the sd card and long pressed it and clicked open as Script/Enable. Then I checked the Su and Boot boxes and clicked save. (After clicking save the program doesn't confirm a save. Should it? When I restart the phone and reopen the script in Smanager the Su and Boot boxes are still checked)
4. I opened the app settings for Google Play Music and cleared the cache.
5. I rebooted my phone and relogged into Google Play Music
6. I open Google music and "Choose On Device Music"
The free space listed is the same as my internal storage free space.
Thanks for all of your help!
You forgot to make a folder called '' MusicCache '' without the quotes in the root directory of your external sd card. Do that, wipe play music data and clear out the data/data/com.android.music folder, reboot and see if it works.

Cleared the Play app data again and restarted. Now it's working. I'm not sure why it it required multiple clears and restarts to take effect. Either way, Thanks!

I tried it out after having formatting issues on my 64 gb card. It seemed to work ok, but I kept getting fc's on the play music app. Those finally seemed to sort out, and then I made a dumb move and enabled 4g while syncing. Was throttled within an hour. lol

I've tried it out. I got tired of play music adding the BGM from Sonic 4 EP I to my playlist since the files to that game are all separate and not in one big obb file.
It now no longer does that, but now anytime I reboot my phone, I have to re-apply my settings in play music. (I usually have it set to random, and to repeat the playlist indefinitely.)
Other than that, all is well. :good:
That's weird, man. Mine has persisted through copying the external sd to a faster one and being reinserted into the phone and rebooted. :-/
Worked as advertised, thanks!

put those five files onto the micro sd card
Step 1:
settings>applications>unknown sources>tick it
settings>applications>development> USB debugging> tick it
Step 2:
Go to the inbuilt app ES File Explorer
find the GingerBreakv1.20.apk
install the GingerBreakv1.20.apk (I installed it on mine but it made my micro sd card useless i dunno what was with this but it still got gingerbreak on it it just made card die so use at your own risk =_= it still install it fine tho might of been a defect of a cheap card)
Root the device by going through the steps
When you complete the steps you should see Superuser in your applications
Go back to ES File Explorer
Find Root Explorer v2.14.2.apk
Install Root Explorer v2.14.2.apk
Click allow for permissions for the Root Explorer
Once you have Root explorer installed open it and fine the folder sd card
Press and hold the Vending.apk until the menu pops up and choose copy
go back to Root Explorer
go to system
go into app
on the top press Mount R/W
and then press the paste button on the bottom
Find where you pasted Vending.apk
Hold Vending.apk for the menu and press permissions
Make sure all the columns are ticked and select OK
once you get to this step you should see the market icon but you're not done yet you need to go through the same thing you did for Vending.apk for GoogleServicesFramework.apk and MarketUpdater.apk
and you should get it

This all worked perfectly on my Viewpad 7e with one small issue when copying the 3 .apk files to the /system/app folder, make sure they are not a 0kb size. If they are just recopy them over and overwrite the files and it should copy correctly with a valid size.
The market wont have allot of apps since the device doesn't support the market natively, so I did a few tricks to get most of my apps on to the Viewpad 7e. You will need to have access to a second Android devices to do the following.
1) Install File Expert (free in the market) on your second Android device
2) Open File Expert and go to My Apps and select the apps you want to install on your Viewpad 7e, then click Backup on the bottom menu. This will creat the .apk files to install on your Viewpad 7e and put them on your SD card.
3) Copy the .apk files from SD card to your Viewpad 7e
4) Open a file manager on your Viewpad 7e and install your apps.
Most apps will work ok but some will bug out and you might be forced to reboot the viewpad 7e (press and hold the power button until it powers off)
If you use Titanium Backups it will install and allow you to restore apps and data, but be warred this will not work 100% so only use it to restore the data not the apps.
Note: If your app was installed on your SD card when your backup was done when you restore the data it will make the app unlaunchable. This should be fine if you move the app to SD card before restoring the data.
Here is a list of my working apps on my Viewpad 7e
aLogcat
androidVNC
Angry Birds (all 3)
Blogger
Chrome to phone
Coin Dozer
Google Docs
Documents To Go
Facebook and Messenger
File Expert
Gmail
Google+ and Messenger
Google Maps, Latitude, Places

Titanium Backup (debugging error and hangs on restoring some apps)
Google Translate
Twitter (acted odd on first run and needed to reboot, opened fine after)
Vplayer
My Country
The Sims 3
Pocket Legends
Star Legends
Youtube
Order and Chaos
I will add more apps to the list as I test them.

Hey,
at first thx for the great HOWTO. Everything worked fine for me. The only thing that also bothers me is the memory problem as often mentioned before.
Perhaps its good to know that I'm from Germany and have a branded Device from strato . But before I began with your instructions I installed the official update FV70_VSEI_S_W_C_11252011 so everything should normally worked.
The only thing that makes me curious is that the widget of the apps that were preinstalled by strato are still there. Is there a possibilty that you have to clear the dalvik oder whatsoever cache before the market works without memory problems?
Go to the link, update to 28112011 file. Root it and instal
The market. I have no problems downloading apps from google play but if you see apps that are writtem not compatible, you have to download from one mobile market

The probleme is not that there is no space on device, but that there is no space in "/cache"
The easy workaround is copying /cache/recovery elsewhere on your SDcard or device (to back it up) and deleting it from /cache/
After that everything work fine ...
NB : If you want to restore factory settings, don't forget ... recopy the recovery directory in /cache
It won't brick because there's bootloader that let you reboot with actual settings or loading an update.
NB2 : I haven't had time for now but there's a 2GB unused partition... let's see ...
Ot;
I followed every Point and was able to move the Cache link to sd-Card.
My question goes to the developers. Is there any work on custom Rom eG bootloader or Even cm Mod?i tried to theme it but with no succsess.
Please dev's. Dont forget us viewpad 7e Users.
Since ViewSonic has no clue what adb is I gave this tablet to my kid since that's what this tablet is "A TOY". I will no longer be dealing with this tablet or company and have purchased a ASUS TF300T and will start developing for that tablet.
HTC ONE X
Hello, my update of Titanium Backup * root, so I have this message (title) that appears. Yet I still have huge room. I uninstalled the application, but can not be restored, the other works well. For example Instagram which weighs 12.77 MB installs without worries ...
I clear the cache of all applications ...
Safe Mode, it gives me the same thing.
In recovery, wipe a cache does not solve anything either ...
Relocation of the ROM without wipe, and always the same ...

I just fixed mine too. I used a logcat, I saw what was causing problem in the app installation and where this file was. It was in the root/data/app/ I browsed there using a rooted explorer and then I deleted the file. More specific I was trying to install hdwidgets (cloudtv.hdwidget is the package name) but during the installation (and not the downloading) I read in the logcat that a file named cloudtv.hdwidgets-1.apk could not be renamed or something like that and it was placed in the root/data/app dir.
Hope it helps...

Thanks you very much for the tip ! You saved me lots of time ! Had this issue with "insufficient storage available" even if I have more than 1Go available ! Looked in data/app and found that the .odex file wasn't deleted when I uninstalled the app, so manually deleted the file and was able to download from market !
To be honest I noticed that if you use a cracked app (for testing for more than 15mn market limit which is really too short) and you de-install it to buy the legit one then the issue appear and you can't download from the market after paying, so now you know what to do !
thanks again.
Lucky Patcher (a cracker app, which causes this) also has a fix for this.

try clearing the data and cache from the play store app. under manage apps look for google play store and clear data and cache. go into play store and see if anything changes.
if not you probably need to wipe your caches through cwm recovery.
insufficient space...
If anyone has had this issue recently, this is what worked for me:
in ES File Explorer:
navigate to /data/dalvik-cache/
long-press to get the menu
select "select all"
at the top, hit the "delete" button.
navigate to /cache/
long-press to get the menu
select "select all"
touch the folders to deselect them
at the top, hit the "delete" button.
I had thought in /cache/ there was a folder called either cache or dalvik-cache which I also emptied, but right now it is not showing.
**you will get app force closes**
power off the Nook, then power it back up and retry downloading apps.
This worked fine for me with no consequences. Previously I tried deleting the play store cache and data every way I could find to do so, including with Titanium Backup and several reboots, SD card removals.

If you upgraded a rooted tablet then you lost root (along with any gapps you had installed, like the Market). You'll have to re-root and reinstall the Market.

As great an app that foldermount is it must be made clear that it only moves the data and obb from games and apps. For anything else you'll need link2sd or similar.
I can see where the op is going though.. It would be a useful module especially if you can redirect any folder you like to the sdcard, except system for obvious reasons!.
Hi,
I tried foldermount on a device with only small amount of internal memory. I successfully linked the folder to the sdcard outside of data\data\ and it seemed that 300MB have been moved. But when I try install more apps, I get a Out of space dialog box: xxx couldn't be installed. Free up some space and try again.
Also, how to figure out how much spaces I left to install further apps?
Thanks
p.s the device has android 4.2.2 and w/ 512MB RAM, 8GB ROM
p.s.2 you may ignore this post, I will try testing it with an actual external sdcard later.

One of the solutions was to go to the root folder then data/data to delete the left over data from the phone But it's empty. Any help would be appreciated. Delete the entire folder if you can that normally fixes it for me. Also try restarting the phone, that might work too.

Are you rooted? Does this error only happen for certain apps or all apps? If it's for certain apps you might want to find any files that are used by the app and delete them, on both internal and external storage.
I normally fixed this on my s3 by deleting the app folder in /data/data but I don't think you can do that without being rooted.

Not android/data but /data/data from root. It's in there that you have to delete the folder associated with Pandora. You need some sort of file manager that can go into that area, I use ES file manager but you can use whatever app you want.
Thanks for your help, I use ES file but inthe data/ data there in no folder..I'm trying to upload a screenshot but I cant
