[Q] Stop 3g/4g mobile internet from turning off in lock screen - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all -
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 4G. 3g, 4g, WiFi all work fine during use.
My problem relates to 3g/4g ("mobile internet") turning off when the phone has spent >3 minutes in the lock screen.
I can get 3g/4g to turn back on by clicking the home button/power key and then also entering my pattern to pass the lock screen. But until I pass the lock screen, 3g/4g remain off.
The issue is that I want my 3g/4g to remain on (despite the battery drain) so that I can always receive Whatsapp messages, e-mails, notifications, etc.
Note: I am NOT writing to ask how to increase my sync frequency. The issue is that 3g/4g actually turn off (ie, 3g/4g logo disappears from the taskbar).
I am NOT running any powersaving apps, and Power Saving on my phone is NOT enabled. In my "Lock Screen Options", "Wake up in lock screen" IS checked.
Happy to provide more details if needed.
Thanks everyone!
Lazey

I have the same issue with my Lenovo S860 4.4.2. If someone knows the answer please post it.
Thank you.

[Q] Why my SGSII will NOT sleep/standby in 3G

Hi guys, I've posted regarding this issue on a thread somewhere but not getting much hits. If you have 3G Data enabled then put your SGSII to sleep, and wake it up, do you see the Data signal as 'H' or '3G'? Mine wakes up and it's on 'H'. My phone is rooted, using Lite'ning ROM 2.2 XXKG1. I compared with a friend's SGSII with everything stock and not rooted, same thing, wakes up on 'H'.
The phone should switch to 3G when sleeping / stand-by to save battery... but for some reason, each time I wake my phone up, I can see 'H' on the Data Connection instead of '3G'. If I unlock my screen and wait 5-10 secs, Data then switches to 3G. But if I lock it and unlock again, it's back to 'H'. I believe this has been draining my battery more than when I have WiFi connected.
Widgets I have running is Beautiful Weather, refresh every hour, did NOT check refresh on wake up. Google Auto-sync is on. Fast Dormancy is on. I have once tried switching all of these off, reboot, but still same thing.
I've searched for this issue on google, this whole forum but just can't find a post discussing about this issue. Maybe I didn't use the right keywords... I've been searching: "samsung galaxy s2 sleep 3g hsdpa" , something along those lines. Of course I tried combinations like just sleep 3g or sleep hsdpa etc.
If there is a discussion regarding this, could you point me to it please or suggest keywords to search for, thanks.
Maybe this you need,

[Q] How do I disable certain notifications and confirmation popups?

Hey guys,
unlike on my old S1 my new S3 shows some unneeded messages and couldn't find an option to turn this off.
For example when I turn on flight mode I always have to confirm it (see pic 1 at bottom of posting).
Or when I'm in a foreign country and have mobile data switched off, I always get a notification that data connectivity was lost (although it wasn't even on), see pic 2 at bottom. This message always returns once I turn off flight mode, too.
Any way to get rid of some of these?

Wi-Fi performance, sleep mode, VOIP, notifications

I've seen a few reports that people do not receive new mail notifications when the screen is off. The wifi implementation by HTC is horribly broken. You'd think that enabling the option "Always keep wifi ON during sleep" would do just that, but it doesn't. Disabling Power Save mode doesn't help either.
What I found to help is enabling the option "Best Wi-Fi Performance" under the Wi-Fi Advanced settings. Not sure what the battery impact is though.
I started looking into it because I was having VOIP problems when using CSipSimple. I noticed that every time I put my phone to my ear the screen would turn off (the proximity sensor) and the call would become really choppy - it would not get disconnected, just very choppy. Then I enabled the advanced CSipSimple option to keep the screen on during a call and that fixed the problem. Then I started looking if there was another setting that I could use while keeping the screen off. It seems "Best Wi-Fi Performance" does it, even if Power Save mode is ON.
So, if you want notifications to come in while the screen is off, try this option.
For VOIP calls, it's probably easier to just configure the VOIP client (if it supports it) to keep the screen on during the call, unless you are on the phone for hours and it doesn't make sense to drain the battery because of the screen. Then again, turning on the option above is a better choice. Now it would be nice for these VOIP/SIP clients to have an option to toggle the HTC setting on during a call and flip it back to its previous state at the end of the call.

When Wi-fi is enabled &device is idle/sleep, not getting emails & chat notifications

When Wi-fi is enabled &device is idle/sleep, not getting emails & chat notifications
Hello Team,
I bought New S5 T-mobile Version. When my Wifi is enabled and the device is sleep or idle, emails, facebook, whatsapp and other notifications are not coming. I sent a test email from another device and whatsapp message from my friends device. I did not got any notification when my phone was idle. Once I press the home button or power button and unlock my device, immediately all the notifications are coming. I am not facing this when my mobile data is active. This happens only in Wifi. Tried in couple of wifi networks and the result is same.
After reading some blogs and forums, just typed *#0011# and made Wifi power saving mode off. But no use. Also changed the connection to Static mode and no use.
Request any one of you to help me.

Muthu

Did you? Wifi never sleep? Do you use Wifi calling? TMO has a reported issue that seems to be hit or miss with WIFI and SMS, and or MMS. Google it for more info.

Try using an alternate messaging app....I've used Chomp in the past and it seemed to work okay. Also, if you aren't rooted, you can do a phone reset. I'd try the other app first. One more thing, go into the stock messenger settings and restore all defaults. Hope something helps bro!

Battery drain when turning wifi or Data on after airplane mode

Hello experts,
I've been using my trusted S II for several years, when only half a year ago I rooted it and installed NeatROM on it (jellybean). Even before the rooting, probably after upgrading to the official jellybean, I was experiencing the following scenario:
I put the phone on airplane mode when I fly, or simply turn off both Wifi and Data (over 3g cellular network), so to reduce the battery consumption when I go to bed and don't want to be woken up by texts at 3am. I also turn off Sync option so that different apps (like gmail or calendar) won't wake up the device and try to connect to the internet every minute (and fail).
Then after a long period I turn on Data or wifi, and then - BOOM - a massive drain of the battery, which is accompanied by sluggishness in responses to me pressing the screen or even pulling down the status bar. It is as if all the apps that need an internet uplink - Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp - wake up at once and try to get online together.
Does anyone else experiences this kind of effect? Is there a way to fix that?
Thanks in advance.
