Considering there's a tool out now to give you S-OFF with Hboot 1.19 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1964309)
Is there any advantage to updating the Hboot?
If not i will just keep what i got since developers on here don't find it necessary to take the time to mention which hboot their rom is developed and tested with.

It doesn't matter what hboot you have, 1.12, 1.15, or 1.19. You can s-off all 3. There is no point in upgrading at all.

cause on my gf's evo 3d is sure as **** mattered what hboot is on her phone when i tried installing the Venom rom and it kept stalling and crashing because i didn't have the latest hboot on there.

i doesn't matter what Hboot you have on the evo lte... with the 3d it was a little different because of the bootloader
HTC EVO LTE
It does not matter what hboot, I'm running outdated hboot and firmware and run viper, mean, stock w/goodies, cm10, pa just fine. The difference in hboot is 1.12 allows direct access to boot partition, 1.15 and 1.19 do not. It's not an issue now that you can either soff or downgrade and soff all current hboot software

I believe so. You may even be able to downgrade to hboot 1.4 I believe.

how do i apply hboot 1.4 with out downgrading my recovery back to stock? is there a way to keep everything im on now (newest htc update) but just downgrade to 1.4? regardless as long as i can flash now without fastboot, i have no problem keeping 1.5

I always hit the damn thanks button instead of the quote! You got a free thanks
Anyways, go this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192306 and download the SHIP 1.40 hboot (unless you want the ENG one, then download that). Follow the instructions in that post, and flash it. Just a simple PG86IMG.zip.
This guy did the same thing as you, and had success rolling back to 1.40. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17993045&postcount=97
Good luck.
I'm on hboot 1.12. I've seen some talk about updating my hboot//firmware to the most recent version. it seems like a bit of a process. Can someone tell me the benefit of doing this? Also, if someone could explain how i can do this? thank you so much!
Im on Mean Rom 4.1
thank you
Most important question: are you S-OFF?
Sent from my Transformer using xda premium
Never update your hboot. Updating firmware is a good idea. Definitely get s-off if you haven't already.
Its not a "process" at all.... you just flash it either from recovery or from H-boot depending on if you are S-ON or S-OFF
And you want to update radio and firmware, no tthe Hboot
I think what you may be referring to is relocking and running the RUU to update your firmware. Sure that can be a bit involved, but if you're S-OFF updating firmware is really easy and you don't have to mess with any of that stuff. Like the others have said, since you're 1.12 you should go get S-OFF and then flash the firmware (minus the hboot).
Definitely get s-off, s-on unlocked is a guilded cage
Even if he is S-ON it doesnt matter. Hboot 1.12 can update through recovery
Yea but soff is better
I thought with 1.12 s-on you could only update the radio but the other firmware bits were off limits?
Sent from my EVO LTE
The security is different on 1.12, its practically non existent (compared to hboots 1.15 and 1.19) when you unlock but to have full write access to nand you need soff
After successfully downgrading my HBOOT to 1.12 and achieving s-off, is there any advantage functionally in flashing HBOOT 1.15 or 1.19
since you will still be s-off, is there a difference.

It would be a good idea to flash the lazy panda hboot found here http://www.unlimited.io/lazypanda.htm as far as the other hboots I'm not sure I have not tried but as long as you update your firmware bits you will be up to date
No real reason to update your hboot once you're s-off...except for the lazy panda hboot the previous poster mentioned. It allows fastboot commands, but it's not required to complete s-off.

I have my EVO HBOOt 1.53 (JopunutBear) S-off stock 4.0 rom. Now when i flash jb or ics custom roms i get a bootlop.
What can i do?
So have i to downgrade to hboot 1.49? If yes how to do this.
Yes i tried severyl things like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906172&page=10 [ bootloader doesnt find pg86img.zip]
and other s-off guides but nothing really works
Thanks for help
Are you putting the pg file in the root of your sdcard or in a separate file folder?
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
yes i put it in root. how big is the rigt pg file. i have one with about 324kb and one with about 300mb

That one with about 384 kB. Then, turn off your phone, turn it on in bootloader (volume down + power on). Wait a little and it will ask you to update. Press volume up, and wait. After that you have to delete that PG file from sd card. (that pg 300 MB has a rom on it..thats why it is so big)

If the bootloader doesn't find the zip, make sure it's named PG86IMG.zip (capitalization as is) and make sure there is no double zip extension.
Here my BL. It Doesnt find the small PG file.
Does it something has to do with my JoupunutBear HBOOT 1.52.7777
Are there other ways to downgrade hboot with s-off?
Can i flash JoupunutBear HBOOT 1.49 from unlimited.io?

If you can boot into your ROM then just check whether your phone is recognizing data on your sdcard. Sometimes after the wire trick sdcards tend to flip out. Your pc might be detecting it fine but the phone might not. Just humor me and try playing a song or something from the card just to rule out this possibility

i will try this. is hboot downgarde the only way to get custom roms working?
EDIT:SD works
What about cid for pg file? i have htc_102. i tried fastboot oem writecid 1111111 and htc_01 but nothing changed.
Cid shouldn't be a problem with the zip from that thread. Try running an RUU and then downgrading hboot

If you are still having issues let me know. I have recently had the same problem as yourself.
With hboot 1.53 you can only run ICS ROMs but if you are not able to run ICS either I would use a 4EXT recovery then enable smart flash (I know this should only matter when s-on is worth a go) Also use fastboot to flash the boot.img from what ever ROM you have chosen just incase it's an issue with that.
PG86img.zip files are CID specific and need to be for your location and carrier (from my understanding) unless you have a super CID which is 11111111 (denoting a factory unlocked device, but don't quote me)
I too have a 1.53.0007 hboot and also am having trouble finding a solution to hboot changes once you are s-off with that hboot. How I got that hboot after gaining s-off is beyond me but it seems I am not alone and if that hboot can be put in it HAS to be able to change it. The easiest way that I can think of is to gain s-on (I haven't looked hard enough for that yet though) then to s-off again and make the hboot update that way.
by the way (now I can't find it's exact meaning and am choked) I was really surprised that the beer reference had more than just a catchy ring to it. Engineering something or other, I shoulda wrote it down

the PG86IMG in this thread is compatible with all CIDs. as long as you are s-off you can change your hboot easily using this thread

Thank you so much. And now I'm able to flash jellybean ROMs I think I'll stick with the ICS one I am using (King Cobra, I think could be Cool though) as it is great on batteries and everything works great. And I get to freak people out with the creepy 3d camera. lol.

I am assuming that your phone wasn't S-OFF at the time? I accidentally tried to S-OFF one of my EVO 3Ds (GSM) that was already S-OFF at the time and I got a "WOW!!! What are you doing. Your phone appears to be S-OFF already. Doing so again could result in impotence, and death" or words to that effect. Basically a gaudy do you want your phone to die type of a message. If your device was S-OFF to begin with I was not aware that you could use Juopunutupbear to change the HBOOT version without going through the whole S-OFF process. Can you give some more details as to your phones state (i.e., HBOOT version, S-ON or S-OFF, etc...) before you used juopunutupbear to change the HBOOT. Thanks

So I've been searching all over the interwebs and all over this site on info as to how to get my evo 3d CDMA (virgin) to s-off so i can run JB roms.
Ive tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563342 But i keep getting stuck. Ive done the mainver downgrade but it seems that i cant find the correct RUU. all the links are pretty much dead and the shipped-roms.com link only has the sprint RUU's. My Hboot version also seems to be holding me back. I always relock the bootloader when i attempt an RUU but once again with no stock rom i get bootloops and a security warning then.
My current setup:
Shooter XC SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.57.0000
eMMC-boot
April 20 2012 17:39:22
mainver is 1.0.0.0.0
I am also using venom3d for my everyday rom.... I DO NOT have a stock rom nandroid
any help would be appreciated

Everything you need is in this guide. Since you've already downgraded your mainver the RUU included should flash correctly.
Make sure to use the VM version of the all-in-one file.

Thanks ramjet. For somereason redoing your post for a 500th time got me to s-off Hboot 1.57.
I assume now i just have to install an Hboot from your post in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817513
Would you recommend PG86IMG_1.50-hboot or PG86IMG_JBear_1.50.5050_hboot_GB being that most JB roms (esp midnight's) refuse to work on 1.57

I'd recommend the JBear GB 1.50.5050 version since that will let you run more fastboot commands without having to unlock the bootloader.
