Apart from DLNA, how do you get tv-out to work via cable?
MHL cables seem to be unavailable in the UK at least.
I heard the N95/N96 3.5mm RCA cable works, is this true, can anyone validate this claim?

It doesn't, there was already a thread on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069246
Definitely not true, I tried with mine, as have several others.
MHL cable/adapters on sale June apparently, should be available a bit before that though, since its coming in the retail box for the Infuse 4G.

The wait is on I guess, thanks for the info guys.
Any ideas on price yet?
All,
Just bought a adapter cable (Micro-USB to HDMI/MHL adapter) from Ebay that is compatible with the Samsung galaxy S3. It states you can watch pictures or video from the phone to your TV in HD.
However, it simply doesn't work, is there something I need to setup on my phone (like the old TV Out) ???
Thanks for any advice received.

You probably got yourself one of the many fakes that claim to be S3 compatible but really just the old type MHL cable.
No you shouldn't have to do anything. Seems to be a bit of confusion among retailers though as to which cable is for s3. Is it generic? Do you have a product no.?
Here is the link
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ADAPTER-C...=324333572946690179&pid=100011&prg=1005&rk=4&
Here is the information
Cable from micro-USB-connector to HDMI
enables the connection from HD-capable smartphones on the HDMI port of a HD-TV
compatible HD 1080p
view pictures or videos from your mobile phone on the TV in Full-HD
No power supply necessary, the phone can be charged at the same time through the Micro-USB jack on the adapter
Compatible with:
Samsung Galaxy SII S2 i9100 / Samsung Galaxy Note N7000
Samsung Galaxy i997
Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250 / i9520
Samsung Galaxy S3 / GT-i9300
HTC Sensation XL / G14
HTC Flyer
HTC Evo 3D
Samsung EIA2UHUN
HTC AC M490
Sony Ericsson Xpera Arc / X12 / Xperia S / Xperia Neo V
If it's compatible with s2 it's not compatible with s3. Seller has either advertised incorrectly on purpose or by mistake. Best contact them to seek a refund then you will see which it is.

Thanks mate, I was thinking the same thing but great to get feedback, guess I need to return it.

Yup, I can also confirm. There was an article on Engadget about Samsung rearranging the pin arrangement of the port.

Wow, that's not fair. It is Samsung that is selling fake MHL accessories.
That vendor was selling a real MHL accessory, compatible with the > 100 real MHL devices already in market. Sammie gave no warning or explanation, and advertised that the SGS3 supported MHL, so many vendors had no way to know that their MHL cables wouldn't work with the SGS3.
Now those vendors have to give people money back and take a loss, when all they were doing is selling authentic MHL stuff.

Sorry but I am being fair because I've seen dozens of cables claiming to be S3 compatible and some that say they made specifically for the S3 alone, I mean I just got caught out by one because 11 days after getting dispatch confirmation I emailed the seller and they said they just found out it isn't compatible and offered a refund, so it looks like they knew it was fake from the beginning and didn't send it but still charged me and confirmed it was sent, and I think everyone can agree this item is definitely trying to claim to work on S3 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-GT-...7TNA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1341253133&sr=8-2

MHL is a closed-documentation commercial proposed specification.
With drafts, changes are rather the norm than the exception. There were reports of the old pin-layout causing issues being the reason for the switching of pins.
But anyway, Samsung is one of the main developer in the consortium so they can change specifications.
Noone said MHL had to be backwards-compatible between revisions.
It's the seller's fault for ASSUMING that there would be no changes and marking the cable as compatible without even attempting to try.
Additionally they could've been notified of this change several months prior release of the S3 if they had bought access to the MHL specification which is restricted but still available and most surely includes iformations about the reason and details of the included changes.
Hi folks,
I had a hell of a time finding the right adapter for my 7.0+ and want to make sure about this.
Can I use the adapter I have for my TMobile S2 on an AT&T Note 1?
Th GS3 and Note 2 MHL adapters are compatible while the S2 and Note 1 MHL adapters are compatible.
Sweet, thank you!

Ahh good olé monoprice. Love that site and it's the perfect place to get anything home networking or home entertainment wise. Bought my gf's drafting tablet through them. Awesome quality and like a quarter the price of the closest competitor.

Do you need the 5 pin to 11 pin adapter too?
My new puppy Sirius literally chewed up my charging cable about 5 minutes ago. It appears to still work but I would like to order a new one. I looked online and I really can't tell which ones are official or not. The one I found it actually says Samsung on it is a little over 3 feet long however the stock cable seems much longer than this. I don't have a tape measure near me, so I can't check the length of the cable that was included with my phone. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Preferably not eBay for reasons I would rather not get into right now lol. I just want to order the official, identical Samsung cable.
I got one of these. It works great.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008EQZ25K/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_3?qid=1388040564&sr=8-3&pi=SX200_QL40
If you're using it to charge your phone, best to test with GCC to ensure it can provide the requierd output.
There's really no reason to buy an official one unless you really like the look and don't mind paying a premium. Amazon essential cables should do the trick (USB 3.0 for higher data transfer speeds or 2.0 for charging) that being said not all of them are capatible with all cases (depends on the size of the opening in your case)

If you want an official Samsung usb cable, go to Best Buy and buy one there or order one from Samsung's website
90% of the cables sold on ebay are not oem, many claimed to be oem, but they are not, they look idential, I even got one direct from china, cannot even tell the different side by side, apart from the shop telling me it's not original.
just get a good quality third party one.

The official cord looks so nice though :'( lol I think I'm going to get the Amazon one you recommended. I found some Samsung ones but they are all around 3 feet and I know the stock cable is longer than that.

If the OEM cables were made in China, where are the fake ones made? (USA, Germany, Australia, ???)

No, and you have had two opportunities to tell us over your last two post, but you must NOT know either, (or refuse to tell us)
I have spoken with Samsung about this at length. The ONLY USB 3.0 CABLE FOR THE NOTE 3 YOU CAN GET AT THIS TIME is sold only with the phone and you only get one. All others are fakes (unless you can buy one from someone who wants to give up the one they received with their Note 3, which is very unlikely). The people at Samsung told me on the phone they will start selling the Note 3 USB 3.0 cables several months into next year, probably May or June. Call if you doubt what I am saying.

I must say, W.T.F.?! Have you tested it to verify it does USB 3.0 speed transfers rather than USB 2.0 speeds? I actually am looking for some because using just that rather than the regular cable just for charging would make the connector on the phone last longer (better on the wear and tear).

I bought this one off newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812422979
Charges at the same rate as the stock cable according to Galaxy Charging Current from the app store. The cable is thick and a little bit longer than the stock cable. Have had it for 2 weeks now with 0 issues

I've had the cable over a week now, use it only on my laptop in which my laptop only has USB3 ports on it .. that was the main reason for purchasing a second cable. So, yes .. tested and connectivity as USB3 .. no problems.
Thanks! Just ordered three of them
