Is anyone working on a ROM for this new tab? It has a great form factor and would seem to be a perfect mid-level tab. At a great price, it just needs a clean version of Android on it with GApps. Any takers? BTW, my best buddy has one that he is giving his wife for Christmas, and I have played with it and it really needs clean ROM.
good question
i would love to know as well
Me Too!
My sister just got one of these. I've had so much success with ROMs on my Eris, I would love to be able to offer her one for the Next3. Come on guys, you can do it!
From all of my searching around the 'net, it seems that NOONE is working on a custom rom for the Next3 or even managed to permanently root it. Bizarre.
I guess I'll keep looking. A clean custom 2.2 rom would be really nice for this tablet after the bloatware is blown away.
I would love to see this happen as well.... i bought my daughter one for xmas and would love to root this bad boy in advance for honeycomb.
Z4 has a root that works it has temp and permanent the temp works good but have not been able to get perm to work yet

Now THIS is what I've been waiting to here... got my bf a Next3 for Christmas as well and its' a great little tablet just is REALLY limited thanks to their custom OS.
Anybody made any progress with this device as far as a custom rom is concerned???

HEY! I got $$ for someone who wants to help me get this to 2.2!!!!
Let the Starting Bid go for 50 bucks.
You got me up and running on 2.2, you get paid.
Im in for 25. That's 75 now.
Sent from your Moms EVO using 4G speed
I'm also looking for root / 2.2 for this device, will donate if some dev could come through for us.
I can't believe that its that difficult to root this thing and throw 2.2 on it. Hell nook color has been cracked already.
Sent from your Moms EVO using 4G speed
Anyone want to take this on yet?
Sent from your Moms EVO using 4G speed
ill put some cash down its kinda sad this tabs been out for so long and still no one has even tryed to rom it
Rom and Root for Next
I just saw the device and its nice. For the price, I may have to go out and get one just for the gadget hoarder in me...
I have a suggestion... Why doesn't someone start a donation pool to purchase the tablets for the devs to start cracking it. That is what happened with the nook. Team Cyanogen took up the challenge, and I have to say that I am happy with my rooted cyanogen nook running nightly builds. And next payday, I am donating to that project...
The long short of it. Devs crack the devices that they OWN because of the challenge to bring greater functionality to the devices... Find a willing dev team and get some devices in their hands and wait for the magic to happen.
Just my two cents...
posable firmware dump
using the instructions here http://wiki.archosfans.com/index.php?title=Dump_your_Home_Tablet_rom_and_create_a_custom_rom i was abel to make a dump of the next3 system http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9DEL0E25 thats the recovery/backup image i also have the boot, kernel recovery, system and update images maby this would be enuf to help some one emulate are device and posably start rooting it im going to look more into it too see if i can do any thing but i dont know the first thing about it but its defanatly a start isnt it?
I wouldn't mind donating if someone from CM would come out and commit to getting it running. The devices aren't that expensive and I think that if we donated the money for them to get one, that would be a benefit for everyone. The form factor on this thing alone is awesome.
I have the imgs I just need help moding it
Sent from my rk2818sdk
im going to see if i can get someone to pick this up over at CM.... Dont let this die guys...we need this thing rooted.
Any CM7 news for X2?

Nothing new.
Not until we unlock the bootloader...
Probably nothing especially since the bionic has come out. DX2 has always been the Red Headed Step Child.

That's not true. CM7 for the DX1 works with a locked bootloader and 2nd-init. DX1 CM7 also only works right now with a Froyo kernel. It should not be impossible now that we have 2nd-init with GB.
Did anyone ask who was actually working on it? I remember the name "dragonzkiller" thrown around but nothing seemed to have come from it. If he isn't, did anyone actually start up the project again? I hate this idea of asking "what the status?" without asking "who is working on it?" and "can we help out?"

The 'locked bootloader' response is pretty standard on this, and it's getting annoying.
Original X= locked bootloader = CM7
However (I may be wrong) didn't they get CM7 to work by using a dev X? Figured out some way to use 2nd-init after playing with a fully unlocked X? I remember reading something like that...

That being said, you will wind up with a CM7 that has no custom kernel. Nothing wrong with that, but it's kinda half assed if you ask me. Basically like installing a theme + apps and debloating. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

That wouldn't make any sense. If you are unlocked, you wouldn't need 2nd-init since you have complete access to the first init. Also, they had to pull a number of modifications to get the Froyo kernel to work on the CM7 GB base. If you are unlocked, you shouldn't need to do all that work. You would've just flashed the latest and greatest kernel.

True. But my feeling right now is that we have no idea at the phone's base performance with all of the Moto blur running on top of it. I'd like to see at least one pure AOSP ROM to see where we are at.
Plus more flashing options are good and CM7 is not a bad option.

My message came out wrong.
I always ask the same thing, "Why can they figure out CM on an X but not an X2?" - and someone told me they learned from an unlocked developer device what it would take to make it run on a standard locked X. Basically the ones engineers get.
This was the answer I got in a forum, so I guess I should take it with a grain of salt, but that's what I read.

Not to offend you because I don't really even know you, but I think this highlights a problem in our community.
I think our community has an awful mentality. There are too many people who say they want something without really knowing what to do to get it, let alone have the initiative to get it. I think the biggest problem in the community is our lack of devs. Most of them don't even own this phone. Yet we somehow expect good ROMs to appear overnight and when we don't get them, we blame Moto and VZW for all our problems. Really? Say we get a bootloader unlock at the end of this year. Do we really expect devs to come to our phone in droves with all the LTE goodness in everyone's road map? Really? If we want CM7 on our phone, how about we work on a 2nd-init version today so if we get unlocked, it takes a few weeks for a kernel-enhanced CM7 instead of a few months.
I want us to change our mentality to doers instead of winers. So much time is wasted on flaming Moto and VZW and wining about our phone instead of something constructive. Take the initiative people. You want a ROM that does X, Y, Z? How about you learn how to make that ROM. Don't know how to make a ROM? Ask Nitro. Ask navenedrob. Go and ask someone who knows to help. If someone else has a ROM with the same idea, pair up and become a team. You want a kernel to overclock? Learn about kexec and how to get that to work. Learn about our bootloader and possible ways to crack it. There are so many ways to contribute to this community yet soo many people love to post in the "state of our crappy phone" thread. Seriously. Take the initiative people.
Now that I got that out. Is anyone still working on a DX2 CM7? If not what, do we need to do to get that started up again if someone wants it?

Agree. I would try helping with development if I knew how. I'd have to go learn Java now and who knows how long that will take. I was only saying that we needed an unlocked bootloader because you know that people are going to complain that we have CM7 (theoretically) but no custom kernel. You know how many headaches that would cause just from reading a bunch of threads full of complaints...

Someone named dragonzkiller is who your looking for...just posted in the development section that he's still trying to get it going...
I am no expert, I simply enjoy rooting pretty much everything I have relating to technology. Now, the Razr is an amazing phone, and BECAUSE its an amazing phone, I decided NOT to root it until a way to Unbrick became available. Well, that day came (A droidrzr dot come link), so of course, I rooted my Razr and installed the only rom I saw available for the VZW version. Here's the dilemma:
I am in no way making demands or trying to offend anyone, I simply have a question: Are there more ROMS coming out for the RAZR? I have seen all of the mods in these forums, I just have no need for them. I ask because the day my Evo 3D became 'rootable', about 4 or 5 ROMS rolled out right pretty much within hours, and while we DO have a custom ROM for the RAZR, umm...that's it. I appreciate the ROM, I have it installed, but supposedly the big deal was that there was no way to recover from an unbricked RAZR, and now there is, yet there's really no activity in the DEV section aside from people arguing about the locked bootloader.
Maybe I'm just ignorant and the fastboot files don't provide any help at all. I'll attribute that to what I said at the beginning, that I'm not an expert. I was just hoping someone could clarify because I literally check this forum twice a day hoping to see [ROM] at the beginning of a post and [CDMA] right next to it.
Thank you beforehand for any help or clarification!

easy answer
there's no real need of completely modded roms, and roms wich went out, are more optimization roms...
and... ics is on the way, think is a little useless, start thinking of making entire projects on gingerbread, knowing in a month we are going on a really different android version
True, true...but wasn't the ICS source/code already released? Or does it depend from device to device?
Hi Everyone,
I know may be you don't like my thread's name, It is my opinion and I want to know your opinion.
The reason why I'm asking this, simply because I rooted my Razr XT910 to ICS and I really regret. You will tell me , unroot, sure I can do. But I want to pass my experience and to everyone cannot wait to root his Razr.
Ok my reasons are as follows:
1- If you are not very careful you simply can lose your phone
2-After rooting from 2.3.6 on Razr XT910 to ICS 4.0.4 and after the tension because of my mistake and was going to lose my Razr, I found the ICS very basic not much to add to UI. Meaning no widgets like contacts favourites and many others so simply you have to keep installing apps either free or buying not like the original 2.3.6.
3- Not fast as expected
4- No enough support for the Razr XT910 very minimal. Everything is for Droid Razr XT912. I did a mistake by installing a rom for Droid Razr and it blocked my phone and I had to use RSD to install SBF.
5- Themes are very poor
Again guys this is a personal opinion, just wanted to share it with you and to think twice before rooting you Razr XT910
My ROM is Razr-AOKP-GSM-J.Y.Daddy
BTW, I tried Eternity project for Razr XT910 and I got Installation aborted message and again no help in its thread how to overcome the issue
There is more to rooting a phone then just install roms.
Some programs need root to give all the benefits they have, like Rootbrowser, System tuner Pro and SetCPU.
With a rooted phone I can set my cpu level during day, work hours and night.
I can freeze and unfreeze bloatware, make backups and optimize my phone as I like to with or without a rom.
That's why I got it rooted.

Second, I thought the development section is the proper one to discuss rooting matter. Or what do you think?
In addition, how many stable roms are out there for XT910 same like yours. Please mention some.
Thanks

No, that belongs in the General section. If you want to discuss a rooting that you did in the Development section, then you would comment on the thread where you received your information for the ROM you chose to place on your phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344531
....Wow, just wow. *palm to forehead*
@flupo: You have a rogers razr, I'm guessing, which is why you can't get the leak. Give it time, you'll get real ics. Really can't believe you felt the need to make a thread about this lol.
I have the Rogers Razr as well and I'm running J Daddy's custom CM9. Works very well as a daily driver. I don't have a need for bluetooth and I can live without the video recording function. All users understand that these builds are in development and do not provide all the functions flawlessly. So your only options are to wait for an official build from Motorola or hope that somehow a bootloader bypass/unlock comes around that will allow us to use the kernel+radio from the Chinese/European ICS and have a ROM that is more streamlined than the current development builds.
Rooting is not the same as installing a ROM. Updating from GB to ICS is installing a new ROM which has absolutely nothing to do with "Root" in most situations.
Root is the Linux way of saying Admin Account. With "root" access to a phone, you literally have permission to do anything you want, install anything you want, remove anything you want, and run anything even if it requires permissions that are normally rejected on a unrooted phone.
Apps that require root that I use on a regular basis: TitaniumBackup, AdFree, Terminal Emulator, WiFi Tether, and ES File Explorer. There are many others. None of these have anything to do with installing ICS or not.
Your thread title is misleading and it is in the wrong forum. Developers create threads in the Development section, only. You can reply to one of their threads if appropriate, but to create a new discussion on something it should be in General.
You should read through a lot more threads, ask questions in the general section, and generally understand a lot more before you start trying to modify your phone like this. That should be the warning you tell people. People shouldn't just jump in and start modifying their phone's OS until they know what OS, Root, ROM, and a bunch of other terms mean and what they do.
Lol.I have a galaxy nexus i root the day i got it,i also have a Droid razr maxx that I haven't root yet. Thanks for this thread I'm diff not going to root now.

Read carefully and thoroughly and you won't have a problem. Rush in and flash the first file you find and you'll quickly end up with a brick. Getting the most out of any device requires an investment time-wise, and if you're not prepared to make that investment you shouldn't be flashing anything.

Obviously from most of your comments, I did a mistake by making such a question in this section. Sorry about that but I thought it is the right one where people read about rooting.
Second, These are my previous smartphone list which I did rooting for all of them and it went fine with no crashes:
HTC Tytn 2
Sony Ericson Experia
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Diamond 1 and 2
HTC HD
HTC HD2
HTC Desire
So may be from the above you can see guys that I have some experience in rooting and I read a lot about it.
The reason for my thread was to raise the issue that there is no enough support for the great Razr especially XT910. As per Motorola support team whom I discussed with, the upgrade from GB to ICS is in the planing phase and might take about another 3-4 months.
Any how I tried to do that to see if I can solve the issue for having ICS on XT910 or not before selling it and go back to HTC with HTC One X.
Last, it will be great to have a professional forum that has talented people respect each other not like the respectable person whom said "ohh Canadians Canadians"
Everyone of those phones you listed are HTC devices including the Sony Ericson.
That's probably why you stuffed up because this is not a HTC device. Not to mention the majority are native windows mobile phones..

What's with these Motorolas ? Everything seems very confusing...
1.Locked bootloader...
2.Specific fastboot needed to flash specific roms ?

I will soon post a screenshot of my system's info.
I really think there should be a FAQ thread discussing all matters from CDMA-GSM differences, to different fastboots the phones are shipped with and how to get started on software modification on these babies.
Surely that's a noobie question but if the noobs can't have it, then the world can't have it.
Millions are in the forum but few are willing to get further in developing.

Sounds like it would have made more sense to get answers to those questions prior to your purchase.
Great phone, locked down.
Welcome to the forums!
As i already stated, the droid razr is a great phone but is locked down with motos iron fist.
I purchased at launch in canada and was happy... was happy. Untill i started to see the news of the locked bootloader and other issues. Ive been a fan of moto phones since my first v3x and was pleasntly surprised to see an update to the line.
Like was said earlier, its been 6 months since launch and you probably should have done the research, but not everyone has the insight to do deep research about their next phone beyond the physical specs.
That said, moto has locked this thing down and unless you really need more than root its a whole different horse to ride when compared to others like htc, lg and samsung.
Moto basically marketed this thing as a business phone for the fashion crowd. And it is. A slim and fast, solidly built android powered guchi handbag. Not much more.
This is a disappointment. And one we are going to have to live with or find a device that's more friendly to the feint of heart.

Now that I disagree with. A locked bootloader is undesirable, admittedly, but there's still tons of things you can do with the Razr. Custom ROMs? Check. Custom governor? Check. Custom I/O scheduler? Check. Overclock/underclock/undervolt? Check. I have all the above on my Razr. (Except for the governor, doesn't seem to work on Gummy)
Don't get me wrong. I wish Moto would unlock our bootloaders as well, but ultimately, what we are suffering from is a lack of developers. Kholk, kejar, J.Y.Daddy are doing their best, but how many things can they push out? Especially since the Razr isn't their dedicated phone.
The Razr is a good phone, don't let one single locked bootloader ruin the whole package. Although honestly, given the chance to change phones, I would (who wouldn't want the HTC One X?). But really, there are tons of things you can do with your phone as it is.
Most people here misunderstood me.
Asking nooby questions does not make one a noob.
I've been a computer programmer for years and I would like to contribute in the RAZR development, though I do not know how to start cause I was only mid-to-advanced user of mobile phones.
All I needed is someone to show me the way on this motorola. I'm not trying to make myself tiring to you though most people here should learn to show some respect and not snub people who ask.
As for "Searching" the forums, since the RAZR development is going slow, forum threads are also cruising at a low speed. So do not blame me for asking something that is not very clear to most "common" RAZR users and owners.
Friendly as hell.

Spectral thanks for joining this conversation. I've done a lot of research and already know that custom roms, governors and over/underclocking is possible.
Though it seems that device software differs from one phone to the other and I can't make up the differences. Maybe someone should start a thread regarding different Fastboots and to which devices they are installed to for example.
hi OP,

there are tons of info to answer ur questions (sorry im not as capable) there. so u dont even need to search. just see the titles.
