I tried modifying build.prop to show as a Nexus S and a I9300 and device(Mele A2000 media player) does show as the modified model but still showing the App I'm trying to install as incompatible, and btw the App I'm trying to install is USB/BT Joycenter that I bought and does work for my I9300, so is there anything else I need to edit to get this working?
If you have it on another device, and that other device is rooted, you can copy the APK from /data/app and install it manually on the second device.
Already tried that and getting a parsing error when it installs, and I'd still like to also find the way to get it compatible with Play Store.
I'm afraid I can't help you there, I've never messed with that sort of stuff. Sorry my earlier suggestion wasn't of any help
Yeah it's just some Apps need cracking and go through licence verification so I'd rather have the Apps I paid for properly licenced to me and get my moneys worth.
I did a little googling and came across this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133702
Seems to have a few steps more than just editing build.prop, so maybe you could try it? Dunno if it'd be best to use the build.prop edit from this guide or from the Nexus S or whatever, but maybe the extra steps in that guide could fix it for you
Downloaded the new YouTube update today. Opened it. I get a pop-up stating I don't have Google Play services installed on my phone and its needed to run the app (or at least sign in).
So I go to download it... It downloads, starts installing and then I get an error message saying "incompatible with other applications using the same shared ID"
Anyone else having this issue? I'm at a loss...
Getting this same error on my iconia a500. Any ideas how to fix this?
Luckily I titanium'd recently so I was able to roll back but I want to upgrade and this is annoying the crap out of me.
Updated the error message
Argh... Tried a fresh install and still an issue... Wife is having the same issue
Are you guys running custom ROMs? What type? Stock based? Custom kernel? ASOP?

I have the exact same problem. I updated the YouTube app from Google Play last night. When I opened it, a message displayed saying that I needed to install Google Play Services. When I tried to install it, I got the same error message as you.
I tried doing a factory reset and then attempted to install Google Play Services before I restored any apps, but no luck.
I'm not running any custom ROMs. I'm running the stock version of Android (4.0.3) that came with my iDeaUSA YG A777 tablet. I don't have any custom kernels, either.

Running Vigor 360. Problem didn't show up until latest YouTube update. It seems others on Nils business sense are having issue too.
people with this problem can you please check something for me.
go to settings > apps "all tab" and look for google services framework\
if this is here: clear data, then reboot.
No go. Found it, cleared data, rebooted
Went into market, updated YouTube. Opened it, get the pop-up saying Google Play services needs to be installed, hit ok, takes me to the market to install it. It downloads, goes to install them I get the incompatible error.
This sucks :/

got the same exact thing.
thank god for titanium backup, restoring things so easily.
I had this problem running Nils Business ICS 3.6, flashed Rezone Redux last night.....now everything plays happily.
Yeah, I'm starting to think its a issue with a certain type of sock-based custom ROM.....
I think it has something to do with ROMs that already have services installed. I am checking it out.
Google app services issue
Yes having the same problem I backed out as per your instructions but as someone else has stated as soon as you try to sign in the problem occurs. Patiently waiting for your solution Nilsp you are the best. Thanks

A solution to this problem that worked for me was found on another Android forum.
Because I'm new to this forum, I'm not allowed to post links. So, if you put "Google Play services won't install" into Google (with the quotes), then it should be the first page that comes up.
PM me the link. I'll post it.
I'm also having the same problem. I've installed custom rom jellyblast.
Is there any fix yet?

I'm in need of some kinda urgent help and advice regarding a phone i have just purchased for my mother.
I've bought her a cheap Daxian TD888 on the MTK6589 chipset and i'm afraid i have been a silly boy and not done my research before purchasing - I was under the impression that it came with the Play Store installed etc and sadly, it comes with a hard to use chinese ROM.
Mothers being mothers, mine isn't anywhere near tech/phone friendly and this is her first smartphone (upgrade from a 6 year old Nokia/symbian brick) so i was wanting to get her onto a nice and simple stock android 4.1 or 4.2 or even a CMxx that i can just help her along with.
After some very panic based searching today, i'm not seeing much that can help me... infact... nothing regarding this phone at all.
So... have I been a dumbass and bought her a lemon or is there anyone that can help me out with advice or pointers on how to get a normal android ROM on this thing?
I'm not massively experienced with rooting but have managed it a couple fo times in the past on my old Nexus One.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I could probably help you get it rooted and that would allow you to install Play store on it as well as delete any chinese apps that sometimes come on the MT65XX devices if interested. As far as the rom goes, is there not an option in settings to change language to English? I have bought a few MediaTek devices directly from china, when I received the phone it had english on it already but when I reset the phones I would have to go into Settings and change chinese language back to english.
Motochopper should root your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252248
One thing with these phones is that the android version is not always what is shown in Settings > About phone. Try using this tool from the first post of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2160490&styleid=18
make sure you enable USB debugging on your phone first and it will help tell which version of android you are really running. If kernel say 2.6.xx you are on GB 2.3, if it is 3.0.xx then you are on ICS and if it says 3.4.xx then you are JB. I bought a MT6575 that said android version 4.0 in settings, it said gingerbread 2.2 on the box (I know 2.2 is Froyo), then on bottom of box it said Froyo 2.2!
Thanks Klown80 -
I'm just into work now so I'll have to hook it up to my own PC and root when i get home later... i'm just in full on panic mode over this (its a time sensitive issue as she's due to be in hospital for an extended period and i want to get this right for her before then)
Regarding the language settings in the current/stock rom, it has english US selected and while a lot of the language is in english, pretty much ALL popup dialogs are in chinese and the browser is unusable (all chinese text based) so... hence the panic.
I was (foolishly) thinking it would just be a simple enough flash to CM or stock android and hey presto - full english ROM.
I hate it when i don't do my homework first.
So... you recommend the root first, check exact android version number and go from there?
Even if it turns out to be an older 2.1/2.2/whatever version, i'd be happy enough to get something stock and full english based on there if its possible.
As she's never had a smart phone, it will all seem super smooth and flashy to her anyway.
I have now rooted (i think..) however, the superuser app comes up with an error upon opening -
superuser binary (su) must be updated
and i now i'm kinda stuck.
I have downloaded and tired various versions of the play store and while the at first allow me to enter google accounts details, it always crashes after that.
Every time i open the play store app, it just closes again.
Any suggestions on where i might be going wrong?

Sounds like you need to update the binary then, if it allows you. If not then the root did not correctly root your device and we will have to go back a step and get that fixed first. As for Play Store, it usually takes more than just the Play.apk file to put Play Store on your device if it did not come with it stock. You also need (I am going off top of my head, I can give you exact names later) Google services framework.apk, Google login services.apk, Google Play services.apk. You need to have root to to this because you will need to move the vending.apk to /system folder and possibly change permissions on the apk before you install it. Once we can confirm root I can help you install a working Play Store if you like.

I've no idea how to update the binary so I guess i'm looking at a re-root.
I have had the usual issues of drivers not wanting to work (the Motochopper root process getting stuck at the daemon starting point) but I've manged to get the process to work twice so far.
(I've tried 4 different driver packages and they have all given the same results)
Could you possibly advise on how to update the binary file for superuser? I've just tried the root again and it skipped installing superuser as it was already found on the phone.. i haven't felt this noobllike in some time!

Try uninstalliong Superuser or SuperSU and try again. Su binary should ask you if you want to update when you first open SuperSU, if you have Superuser, then you will need to open the app and go into settings to update binary.

Ok, is it just Superuser and not SuperSU correct? Can you go into settings in Superuser and towards the bottom there should be an option to update su binary. If it is SuperSU it will ask to update on its own when you open it. either way make sure it lets you update binary. Once binary is updated download and install any app that asks for root acces, so we can see if superuser request pops up.
Once we have confirmed root we can move onto installing Play Store. To do this you will need to be able to install a file explorer like ES file explorer so we can install the files we need for working Play Store.

In the superuser settings, there isn't anything apparent for trying to update the su binary.
the list reads as follows:

HUGE thanks to Klown80 for the advice and patience!
For anyone else in a similar situation with an MTK6589 cheapo phone, and had issues with the Motochopper root method (the root getting stuck at 'daemon started successfully' etc etc.....
Klown80's chinese root tool works a treat. You will have a chinese superuser app that may be a little annoying (you might be able to swap it for SuperSU or something but I had issues doing that so i've kept the chinese one) but the root works perfectly and the instructions given by Klown80 in the linked thread are very easy to follow.
I still had some issues with getting google services installed so you may want to look for a play store installer workaround - I know there is a cheeky little chinese mod apk that can be used to get the play store working, but i can't post it here.
Should anyone come across this thread and know of a good, stock english rom that I might be able to use, please leave a comment!

So I decided to manually upgrade my Google wallet app to the new Android pay which then requires a new Google play services which I installed but the problem is whenever I try to add a card it says it is unable to verify my android version. Has anyone else attempted this? I saw some people say to un-root and then try it but it didn't seem to work.

I've tried disabling root via SuperSU, clearing all data for Android Pay and Google Play Services, and resetting my DPI back to 640. None of those did the trick. Actually it will work if rooted. There is a root cloak that works. There are people with root running Android Pay.
Something in the build.prop in non-factory ROMs is causing the failure.
I'm trying to get a copy of a factory build.prop for 24b so I can take a look at the differences between it and Jasmine 8.0.
A third party lockscreen is a no go.

Well, I guess I've got something new to try.
I don't know why I'm so obsessed with trying to get Android Pay running. Perhaps because I used to use Wallet before they locked it down for root users, and I missed the memo when they opened it up for rooted phones. I've tried using rootcloak and nodevicecheck. I've tried turning off root with SuperSU. I've tried clearing Android Play Services data (which then forced me to factory reset my watch). I tried setting the DPI back to 640. Same evil message everytime. Cannot be verified.
If this doesn't work, I'll probably give up for a while and wait for a fix. Preferably with a Xposed mod that removes the lockscreen restrictions. Unless I get antsy enough to do a Nandroid backup, flash a 23c KDZ, add the cards, root and restore the backup.

Well, that didn't work. New approach, same message.
I wish there was a way we could consolidate our experiences across all devices. It would be helpful to know which devices and ROMs have more success than others. For example, my observation has been that stock ROMs are more successful than custom ROMS like CM 12.

I tried to add cards before I installed Xposed, even after disabling root via SuperSU it wouldn't work.
I managed to add cards by doing the following (on JasmineROM 8.0), all of which are REQUIRED:
1. Set DPI to stock 640
2. Disable SU
3. Reboot into recovery, flash the Xposed uninstaller.

Tried those running RR. Failed again. Seeing that JasmineROM is a stock rom and RR is a CM-based rom, it supports my beliefe that Android Pay doesn't like CM.
I got it to work. Jasmine ROM 8.0.
1. Opened SuperSU app and unchecked "Enable Superuser" box on the Settings tab,
2. Rebooted,
3. Opened Android Pay app and went through the steps to add my Credit Card,
4. Opened SuperSU app and checked "Enable Superuser" box,
5. Rebooted,
6. PROFIT!!!
I do not have xposed installed, so my guess is that xposed may be the problem.
FWIW, I use Tasker and I have a Profile that when I open the Android Pay app, Tasker turns NFC on, and when I close Android Pay, NFC turns off. That works seemlessly. Only issue is that the delay in turning NFC on is a little longer than what Android Pay needs to see NFC, so I get a settings message from Pay. No biggie, I just dismiss it because by the time the message comes up, NFC has already been turned on.
I too can confirm Android Pay works on JasmineROM 8!
If I've helped, please don't forget to press the “Thanks” button!?
I read somewhere that it checks the bootloader. I have the "1003" secure boot error and I can't add cards no matter what I do regarding SU. Is this a common thread with everyone here that can't verify? Anyone know how to correct it while running CM12?

I'm running Xposed and a new cloak module developed in the last few weeks for Pay.
I also have Tasker set up to enable NFC on Pay opening.
A modified framework (Xposed), root and a ROM not based on stock all cause issues.
BTW: I'm on Jasmine 8.0.
Considering backing up my current configuration, flashing JasmineROM, adding cards, and then restore the backup.

So I downloaded the apk, then opened the files within SAI and tinder installed and works without a problem....
However when I go to my fake phone and download the same files from the same sources tinder does not install and gives an error pretty much saying "failed to install- app not installed- Application is incompatible with this device"
I am obviously not sure what the exact reason is which is why I'm here.
When I tell it I want more details as to why it did not install I get "java.lang.Exception: application is incompatible with this device at com.aefyr.sai.installer2.impl.rootless.RootlessSaiPiBroadcastReceiver.onReceive(RootlessSaiPiBroadcastReceiver.java:57)
at android.app.LoadedApk$ReceiverDispatcher
$Args.run(LoadedApk.java:908)

at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:135)
at android .os.HandlerThread.run(HandlerThread.java:61)
Obviously that doesn't really tell me anything in particular.. because I don't have much programming/script knowledge.
But it makes me feel there are protections in place to keep people from doing what I'm trying to do.
So if anyone is willing to help that would be awesome!
I'm unable to get the app to install via the play store.. because it doesn't even show up there by searching directly.
But when I follow a link to bring up the app within the play store it just pretty much says it's not compatible.
So is it because of protections being in place... something wrong with my vmos environment or what?
When I tried installing it on fake phone I had root turned off along with developer options also turned off.
I had install apps from unknown sources turned on.
I'm not sure what other info to provide...
I can get the same apk to work on the real phone and install..
Just unable to get it to install on vmos.
I tried File Transportation in vmos and that didn't work either... it times out or whatever.
So in general... whether it be tinder or whatever app.. how do you get something to install when play store says incompatible and file trapsportation does not work?
Maybe the apk file I have is in fact incompatible with something within vmos??
I tried some stuff within xxxxx but was still unable to get the app I mentioned earlier to install. Not really sure what needs modified/patched or whatever.

What I usually do is use the root permissions in vmos to force install the apk as a system app through lucky patcher. Before doing this I would reccomend making sure that the version you are using is compatible with the vmos android os version you are running before attempting and that the package isn't considered corrupted. Also please note that when installing an apk as a system app it becomes difficult to uninstall. If you'd want to remove the icon then you would need to disable the package also through lucky patcher. I'm just throwing the idea out there and I'm not sure this solution would work for any other so hopefully it'd work for you.
Has anyone had any luck getting vmos running on an android 9 device??
If so pls let me know so I don't waste too much time trying I tried the standard one and it didn't work so I'm downloading the pro version which will take a long time
