Are the Wifi issues overblown? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

So i'm considering getting a Prime as a replacement tablet and keep reading horror stories about the Wifi. I'm not planning on using the GPS which is also reported as bad .But the Wifi reports of not being able to connect and super slow speeds is really concerning.
I wanted to get some opinions from real users to see if it's legit or overblown.
Thanks!

Do not buy products from Asus, especially not the Transformer Prime it has so many defects that you really don't want to know...
You are gonna regret you purchase A LOT!
Just don't buy Asus products not worth it, and the lack of support for this device is just hilarious.
Don't expect using mouse & keyboard for FPS games, you have to purchase and/or download some fixes/apps to fix stability and get the most out of the device one example is TouchScreenTuner.
However if Ubuntu(would prefer Archlinux though) get's a stable port from lilsteve then I won't care that I have Wireless Issues or GPS issues.

honestly, i just got a new prime from asus (5th time) and it gets 25 down 5 up speed wise and kicks ass , the finally fixed whatever the issue was ... actually i even got a keyboard for it because i decided that it was good enough...but it does have scratch on the back however there rma facility ..has issues so i would recommend taking pics and a video before you send it. good tech support though...email tien he will help.

I had to move my router to the middle of the room to get decent wifi, where my DesireHD had no problems.
This meant getting a very expensive good shielded COAX cable for my cable modem/router which has wifi built inside.
And Asus RMA is a joke. If you would need 5 new primes, they should have given you a refund.

Since I'm going to be buying it used, would it still be covered under any type or warranty or recall?? I won't have any receipts or anything.
I'm so confused. Some people say it's the worst tablet ever and can't get a signal and others say it's perfectly fine.

That is a crapshoot. If the guy registered probably no warranty for you. You would need receipt and it would have to be under a year since purchase. Further if they unlocked it you get no warranty either. (if you don't know the unlock process goes to the ASUS site for the unlock code for each device that is how they know its not ambiguous)
Considering the above, the odds are low you would get warranty.
If you are talking ebay make sure the eBay guarantee is in effect on the product and everything is spelled out on the auction like not unlocked, and other details.
You are definately taking a risk but if they say x or y works in the auction and it doesnt you can make a case with ebay.

I have one and iit works fine.

My works OK, but there's no real way of knowing until you get it, GPS will be bad unless you have a dongle.

I've bought tf201 one year ago, but I took 8 months of troubles and 4 rma to abtain an usable device.
After motherboard substitution, I had a light wifi improvement....but performance is lower than other devices, including smarphones! Those problems are caused by alluminium backplate.
I was forced to buy a range extender to use my tablet all over my home.
Not to forget poor battery performance. using tablet in power saving mode, low display brightness and wifi on, browsing internet and reading email last no more than 5 hours.

Calling everybody. Put the WiFi issue to rest. It was fixed in all retail Primes.

Anandtech just updated their Asus Prime review.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5175/asus-transformer-prime-followup
It seems that the Prime has not one, but two WiFi antennas! The problem with the first samples ASUS sent to reviewers was one of those antennas not working.
So the great Anand Lal Shimpi himself is saying..
It turns out that the Eee Pad Transformer Prime features WiFi antenna diversity. We've talked about antenna diversity most often with reference to the cellular chain on Apple's iPhone 4 and 4S, but here it's present on the Prime's WiFi. There are two antennas on the Transformer Prime, one located on either side of the front facing camera. In the second Transformer Prime sample, one of the two wasn't working. In my third review sample, taken from the retail lot that's on its way to vendors this week, both were fully functional. The result is peak WiFi performance that is virtually identical to the original Eee Pad Transformer.

Thanks and gold luck.
What are you referring to as "WiFi issue"? Sure, the retail ones are fixed but most of us aren't worried about getting Primes that have the malfunction. We trust that Asus won't release a product that has a malfunction. The "WiFi issue" we are worried about is how it has or will affect the dates/stock. We witnessed the delay in Canada and smaller retailers in the US. Ultimately, we believe Asus will fix the issue before selling them but we wonder what the cost of this fix was.

Haha, I told you guys, ASUS did NOT oversee the issue with the metal backplate
They knew (of course) about this all the time, so they added a second antenna to circumvent these problems
Good job ASUS!

Well, one way or another, this might not actually be what some people are reporting. People who have a 'weaker WiFi signal' may actually have the device without that problem. Problem is that multiple WiFi issues have been reported. For one, heavily fluctuating signal that is is a better sign of a flawed antenna. Weak signal, however, not and may simply be the result of how Prime is built.
It's a fact that WiFi signal would be stronger if Prime was not built the way it is. Half a decent laptop will still outperform Prime. I just hope that the signal is better than it was on my previous latptop (that had plastic body).
We will not really know until next week. I don't mind a weaker WiFi, personally, but I am using it in places where WiFi is below average and if it fails in those areas I hope that it at least holds onto the signal.

This is what is worrying me.
I barely manage a signal with my TF101. What chance will the Prime have I ask myself?
Lets hope the debbi downers n trollers see this. Forum doesn't need any more threads worrying about wifi issues. One of the main reviewers that had issues has figured out why. Plus they said the issue is fixed in retail units. Im optimistic my prime won't have issues. Plus this was still more so an isolated event. With both antennaes working properly, the Prime should get great reception.

They also said the unit with both antennaes working, had wifi quality/strength virtually identical to original transformer.
Plus wifi test showed it has one of the best wifi setups out there. Came in 3rd out of all tablets. Way better than ipad 2
take that negative nancy's.

This sounds promising, but who said that it has 'one of the best wifi setups out there'? Was there an article or test conducted? I still remain skeptical. I am sure Asus has fixed the malfunctioning antennae issue though and maybe the other problems can be helped by firmware and other software updates. I don't care if WiFi is weaker than usual, but I would be annoyed if it fluctuates heavily.
And does anyone know if the dock boost WiFi in any way? Has there been tests with and without the dock?

We are literally 4 days away from their announced launch. Their last response only a few days ago was it was still on track even if they choose to not mention in limited quantities. It would be bad PR to backtrack at this point or have next Monday arrive and then they announce a delay. It's safe to say US launch is next week. UK was supposed to be next year anyways and I assume they grouped Italy with them. Also delayed Canada to shift product to US.
Anyways thanks for the link OP. I'm once again excited for this tablet with only 4 days left. I hope newegg ships next week as well. As far as lingering issues. It's confirmed throughput will be just fine. In most use scenarios your reception will be fine no matter how you hold it. Range is the only thing but its not horrible by any means. So if you already have poor WiFi reception you may want to look into a repeater or a more powerful wireless router. Whichever one makes sense for you're scenario.

This is not really a 'delay' in Europe, it was never supposed to be released in Europe in December anyway, there was no announcement. And it makes sense for Asus to take a breather and launch with ICS in Europe, which helps sales, since they can 'announce' it, differently from just launching something with a delay. It also gives Asus to build up stock for the launch.
It's a smart call by Asus from marketing standpoint, though it does technically push the European release a little.
I still would have preferred for launch in Europe and US simultaneously, but I can understand why Asus is kind-of limited in that regard.
He actually has a really good video review, it has a lot of salient points. I am really starting to wonder how this thing is going to stack up to Krait when it comes out.

The dock won't affect the signal as it does not contain any antennas or circuitry that can interfere with the signal.
It's great to see something resolved that I'd never given much thought to. I've been using ASUS products since 1992, and I've never had concerns about quality on any of the 11 or so Motherboards I've used.
My main concern now is just GETTING the darn thing. I sold my Transformer TF101 before ordering the Prime, and Tablet withdrawals are starting to get to me!

Here is the WiFi chart from this article showing the PRIME performance which is BETTER than the iPad2 for WiFi transfer speed
Thanks for the post.
Paraphrasing the video re: WIFI, it says the two antennas increase download speed, so that issue is covered. The WIFI range is still a little less than many tablets because it's an Aluminum body without any built in window for WIFI antennas. Unless you added some kindof plastic window to the tablet design, the " all aluminum " body will always bring down the WIFI range a bit.
But: shouldn't be an issue that will be noteworthy in overwhelming majority of tablet users. Prime is still the one to get.

Chances Of Getting A Propper Prime?

I'm hearing nothing but problems. I hear the majority of primes have some form of defect. It seems to me that ASUS screwed up pretty royally with there launch.
I'm in canada and i have a preorder on some small time website. Whats the story? is it only these first few that have defects?
I doubt i would be able to return it to my retailer so im really worried about getting a defected model.
Most things are some small issues so worst that happens is you keep it for a few weeks until stocks fill up and can exchange
My hunch is that the first batch of Primes were defective. ASUS halted the shipment to Canada and delayed the shipment to the US so they could examine existing Prime inventory and correct the wifi problem. They likely had to open each prime to fix it, which likely caused new problems which seen reported here like the Prime screens bleeding light, and looseness, and markings on the basel.
Hopefully those who are waiting in pre-order hell will be the lucky ones who will get the next new batch of Primes fresh off the conveyor belt with the wifi problem fixed.
That's my hunch.

screen bleeding, bad wifi, something else.. lol (not dead pixel, could care less)
plus a couple of peoples are just crapping out on them. those issues would bug the crap out of me.
and i couldn't return it to my provider, but could i return it to ASUS?
If your retailer had them in stock you could return it to them if not have to go through asus
As for issues don't worry many people have perfect tablets some just got unlucky Asus will sort it all out

tell you what. my prime is perfect. not a problem at all.
Mines not. My gamestop prime has horrid wifi screen bleeding and no gps... It actually just rebooted after freezing while viewing this very thread... I just want the tablet to work... I hope gamestop will exchange it with a version thatcomes in jan or feb... Im not even a room over and i am between -70 and -80 on wifi analyzer.... Awful.... But i am willing to wait if it means i can get working prime
kinda makes me glad I didn't get a prime now. after going 4 tfs I wondered if asus could do better with their second Gen tablet... doesn't seem like they've done much qc this go round either.
guess I'll be getting another Sammy when they get released.
I've been using mine all day long, haven't noticed any problems with mine, no screen bleed...wifi works good for my situation, only thing I can see wrong is it looks like I may have one dead pixel but it doesn't bother me enough..plus if it does bother me ill just wait a little but for fresher models

My Prime is working great. Everything works well including wi-fi and GPS.
No bleeding, battery is great and no lagginess whatsoever, no matter what I am doing.
I doubt "the majority" have problems. It's just that people are more likely to post their problems with their Primes (in the hopes to get them fixed) than others whose Primes are working well.
It's certainly not a clean launch by any means. But to say the majority of Primes are defective is a jumping to conclusions.
If your unit is defective, return it for a new one.
Just got to open mine today for Christmas, although it arrived from Newegg 2 days ago. I also got the docking station. Knock on wood, mine seem to be working just fine so far.
heh...mine was working flawlessly...that is until I charged it to 100% and powered it off. It now will not turn on so I guess I got a nice shiny cutting board for Christmas.

Not to make light of the situation, but it probably would make a good cutting board - did you see the video of that guy cutting apples on the screen? You would need to make sure the juices don't ruin the circuit board, though.

Yup, just there is but it did nothing when I pushed it. The only life in the unit is a green LED when the charger's plugged into the wall. It doesn't even show up on my PC when I plug it in. Good and truly dead it seems.
At least I got a couple of hours out of it before it died. Other than the whole catastrophic power failure thing it was a real pleasure to use...except maybe for the vibration...it also seemed a little busted.

Every new tablet had it's issue. Look at all the early threads for each tablet. Some people had issues, some people didn't. Your choice whether you want to venture down that road or wait. But what I have seen is that the later models, it has taken longer to get root because the development had the earlier models.

[Q] Should I? Or Should I Not?

I think Ultimately it boils down to whether should I buy the Transformer Prime.
Been browsing the net lately & I've been following the news on the Prime.
The Wifi/GPS/Screen issue is really turn off, but here I am asking you guys who have the Prime, Was it worth it?
It cost a hefty sum of money... so yeahh...
Really, if the 3 major issues that people are having are turn-offs, then why bother?
My screen is beautiful. Wi-fi is working fine. Don't even care about GPS. Have a dedicated GPS and one in my Galaxy S is great too. For me, this is too big to be used as a GPS.
Again, if the 3 major issues that people have are issues for you, it seems silly to keep looking.

The problem here is that the chances of getting a not flawed device is slightly over 70%,
Read it off somewhere.
But wifi is an important issue to me since it's not a 3G device..
I don't have wifi or screen issues. I half-heartedly tried to get GPS going but really have no patience or the inclination to do so! GPS is not what I bought the device for...and I bought the TFP knowing full well of the GPS issues. If I can't see any satellites...oh well. Am I a "dumb" consumer for buying a product that doesn't have all marketed specs working...I don't know...maybe. But spending $500 on the TFP without GPS was well worth it to me. I've bought PCs in the past where I knew the video card was crap....I simply swapped it out for something that met my needs.
If you're worried about encountering the noted issues (not including GPS which sounds like it will never work 100%), buy from somewhere with a good return policy. Try it out for a couple of weeks. That is what I'm doing and so far mine is a keeper. Actually, I bought two from two different stores...the second is still en route. I did this just in case one of them had problems...the second one is probably going back without ever being opened.
Good luck with your decision.
You could wait forever to get the "perfect" device. I still haven't seen anything announced that is going to be ahead of this tablet. This thing is way ahead of the curve and should have great longevity.
Just updated to the latest firmware and got a gps lock inside my house in under 15 secs. I didn't buy mine for the GPS but I think it's great that ASUS is addressing the issues quickly.
I haven't had any wifi, issues. I have a 3300 square foot house with my router in the office in my basement which is one corner. I get good connection everywhere. It is down to 2 bars in the upper far corner, but so is my DesireHD.
I went ahead and got the keyboard (I debated about the extra $150, if it was worth or not), and am very very glad I did. It is well thought out and very sleek.
All you can do is research and research some more, and make your decision. It looks like your off to a good start.

Decisions decisions | Return or keep? + Question

First off, I think it's an awesome tablet, nice screen, damn quick, and custom rom running, it's great BUT as we know wifi/gps issues. I'm not jumping ship to the iPad because personally I think i'll probably end drowning than be saved, but let's not turn into ipad vs prime and whatnot.
I pretty much have 1 day left to return the prime to the store and I'm not 100% sure what to do, although I feel like I'll probably end up sticking with it as I'm not entirely convinced the TF700 will be that huge of a difference.
GPS: Nonexistent, couldn't get a lock at all:
Bluetooth: I tried sending some photos from my nexus while streaming pandora on the prime and it seemed ok but when accessing a page on tapatalk it felt like it was slower. I don't have a bluetooth mouse, or headset to test it better.
WiFi
I'm not exactly sure if my tablet is suffering from the WiFi weakness.
Here is the scenario:
I have two ap's at home on 2 different channels. One on first floor and one in basement.
I was pretty much right in the middle of them and I ran WiFi analyzer on both my galaxy nexus and the prime and to my surprise both had very similar dbm and both had very similar speed test results.
My galaxy nexus was averaging at about -80 dbm
My prime was averaging at about -70 dbm or so.....
My laptop was no surprise better.
BUT at work:
I'm using a tenants AP, it's a bit strange. (I work as security and yes they gave me permission and the key to use it)
Galaxy Nexus will average at about -89 dbm and it will have enough WiFi bars showing in blue and i will be able to use the connection and browse around.
Prime will average at about -80 dbm but it will not catch a connection for me to browse, the first and/or second bar will either stay gray or it will just drop the connection completely.
Meanwhile my laptop is fine. There is an occasional drop of connection on both nexus and laptop but I feel like the AP is to blame.
But then why isn't the prime getting a lock enough for me to browse even though dbm is better?
Any ideas? Is this a keeper?
Down the road I'm planning to get a dock for it aswell but not sure any issue would really affect my experience there.
Just return it if you are unsure then if you have regrets you can buy another
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Return it! This thing is just a ticking time bomb, and all Asus does is say hang in there, a fix is coming, meanwhile your 30 days are up in smoke and you have no choice but to keep it.
I wouldn't feel this way if the first Prime I bought didn't have a washed out screen along with all the other defects. Upon contacting Asus they basically told me to return it, so I did. I got a C2O model, champaign color, 64gb. It had gorgeous, vibrant colors, no light bleed, GPS that worked somewhat, wifi that was acceptable but still had the wifi/bluetooth problem.
Eight days later I was at a Chicago Rush game so my daughter could get her Spirit award for cheer. I was sitting in my seat, wiped my screen off because I wanted to record the event and noticed when the light shined on my screen what looked like very fine scratches on the black bezel. Upon further examination I noticed if I rotated my prime the scratches had a rainbow effect. In my head I went OH NO!, I am a jeweler and know what rainbow flash means, stress cracks.
This occurs all the time in gemstones, they get stressed during cutting or mining and the stress can get much worse or break, and thats whats happening to a lot of peoples Primes, while docked. Stress is causing their screens to break, which Asus chalks up to user abuse, BS. I treat my "Toys" with care, I don't have a lot of money to blow on thi stuff so it needs to last. I sold my First gen Ipad a month ago to help pay for this thing.
Good luck in whatever you decide, I know I loved my Prime but, man, I would be pissed at myself for seeing all the warning signs and not taking heed.
I'd return this one. Gary says something is coming in a couple of weeks....repair parts are arriving at ASUS....
I'd give ASUS about a month, first to see what the surprise is, and to give ASUS a chance to get any "changes" into inventory. Then buy your new one.
If you saw nothing truly wrong with your unit just keep it. I've had mines since 12/22 and had no issues at all. One of the first ones. All it took was my 1 purchase to get a great unit. Nothing will be better on Android or comparable till around end of June at the earliest.

I have also had mine since christmas (BCOKAS serial) and honestly.. I have had nothing to complain about. It has gotten wifi everywhere I have wanted it to, the gps is there when I am outside (not that id ever use my tablet for gps), and the screen is b-e-a-utiful and SUPER bright. I bought the keyboard dock to go along with it, and the battery life is outstanding. I can use this baby all day and still have some battery life left when I go to bed.
In the end, though, it comes down to personal preference. ASUS has made a statement that there are repair parts coming... so worst comes to worse you can send it in to them.
Return it.
Either for exchange where hopefully you will get an additional amount of time to play with it and decide, or for cash.
If for cash you may have to wait a while for another to show up if you decide you can't live without it, or you can buy something less stressful.
I have finally decided that without the right software and ability to take handwritten notes properly that I don't care how cool, amazing and sexy the hardware is (and oh boy is it gorgeous hardware, especially with (then without, then with, etc) the keyboard dock. It just doesn't work regarding my use cases and specific needs.
Damn shame.
I can't say I didn't expect these responses. But ill admit it's a rough choice. If asus gets new parts I'm hoping they won't their customers in the dark.
I was quite shocked at the results from wifi range on phone and tablet and I think I'm kind of lucky.
Mine is a C10K serial. I'm not exactly how top notch the wifi is suppose to be so I don't have much to compare to but when comparing to my phone that gets great wifi reception, results are almost identical which simply makes me believe its fine.
If the screen cracks, well I bought warranty for a reason. Ultimate decision will probably be tomorrow morning and ill see how I feel when I pick it up
You're running a custom rom, so you unlocked the bootloader, voided warranty.
Are you sure returning the Prime is actually still an option?

Let me ask you if they'll know or check :-D
I never noticed a problem with the TFP WiFi when I had one. Granted, I wasn't comparing side by side with another device - I was just using the TFP, and WiFI signal never bothered me.
Totally ignoring the comparison with your Nexus, does the WiFi connection cause you trouble? If so, return it. If not, keep it and enjoy.

I've heard that the serial number is uploaded to them when you unlock.

Not sure what you mean by this. When you unlock, your serial number gets marked in their system and your warranty is forever lost.

The serial number is for that specific tablet. If i return it to the store, and the store accepts. It is no longer my concern as they accepted it in the way it was.
If i decided to get another one, new serial.
If i keep it and it gets damaged somehow, and i get warranty replacement = new serial.
see what i mean?

Oh yeah. For some reason I was thinking you would be sending it to ASUS. My apologies. Yeah, the store will have no idea.

Last day tomorrow.....I still don't know, was on hold for 30 minutes with asus and nobody ever answered, will try again tomorrow.
I finally got one on number 6 that gets good WiFi I'm not letting this go but Bluetooth does drop WiFi down from 18mb/s same room as router Bluetooth takes it down to 3-4mb/s. So I go from 18mb/s down to 3 or 4mb/s with Bluetooth. I don't use Bluetooth that much though.

G Key let us keep warranty unlocked look @Acer

TITLE SAYS IT ALL
let us keep warranty and unlock the prime with flash recovery such as NVFlash to repair to stock, look @Acer they are doing that for their customers out of the box with a510. Why can't we get same sevices after all we have been through. It would be a nice gesture.
Thanks for dongle but really doesn't make up for built in gps, the slick looking Prime aint so slick when someone asks " whats that thing on your tablet".
PLUS FIX BROWSER WOULD BE NICE, and in my situation after .21 WiFi is killing my battery, dont know why. My settings are the same as before update.
AN UPGRADE PATH TO THE 700 WOULD BE NICE. Considering people are getting pretty much the same device we have with the (300 Pad) and for much less. Most Primes dont even operate as they are suppose to yet, there are still some issues, and Asus releases a lower end tablet that so far has had nothing but good feedback with no issues. Take care of the ORIGINAL PRIME OWNERS.

That is Correct. I just picked up a tf300t lastnight at best buy. I was originally going to the store to get the tf201 but to my surprise they handed me a tf300t. I said wtf?... this is not a PRIME. He said it's the latest and greatest. Well after getting home and setting it up with (NO PROBLEMS) at all it ran pretty nice and smooth. The gps took about 2-3 to get it's first fix "indoors" I should add but it went well. The next test was wifi and it to was no problem. pretty soon after came an ota update but no problems. I went outside to test wifi and video streaming 100+ feet from wifi source "deep in my brick house" kept up nicely. a few gliches with video pausing but I fixed that with a mobo video player from the Market... errrr Play Store. Battery doest last 10 hours either... maybe 7 hours after 2 full charges of 3-4= hours each. I only had this 24 hours roughly and am somewhat impressed... <--Hard to Impress. Other than the slightly lower spec's than the tf201 it's solid so far with no lock up's. Am dieing to test the TF700 thou with really, really really impressive... OK I'm Impressed nice spec's.
P.S. One problem. A video glitch running Battery Snap, the video started stuttering and hard to back out. eventually did and a reboot fixed that.
As if ASUS would actually listen to you.

Right, thats why I will be making a better decision next time. I really like the prime when it runs like it is suppose to.
I wont be buying the 700, why really its a tegra3 device, I already have a tegra3 now. My decision will be when next years Asus comes out. It will be hard to give them my money again. If they dont do right I will Probably be going back to Sammy tabs, yeah they dont update as much but they dont have to, my Samsung GTab 10.1 ran flawless for 9 months. It just got outdated when tegra3 came out.
+1. i will never buy any Asus device ever again. From them sweeping the GPS under the rug and giving us a half ass dongle that wont work with the keyboard dock... Dont get me started on the poor wifi... I travel a lot and i can never get any reception on this Prime...but i also travel with an iPad and that has no issue connecting to those same networks. I love andriod but some of these manufactures need to do better QC'ing before they release to the public.
+1 to the better unlocking and nvflash
i would love to unlock my device, but don't want to loose ALL warranty.. especially with no nvflash
wifi, i have managed to live with after going out and purchasing 2 new routers to give decent wifi signal all around the house
it was a little disappointing though, as my old and very cheap advent vega tablet was able to stream videos anywhere in the house without issue when i only had a single router
Having our device fully unlocked would be a cool thing.
But first they should get all the software issues straightened out. I thought asus is good with updates and so far there were quite a few updates but they didnt fix the issues or fixed one but introduced another.
I'm perfectly happy with my prime its all about software now and if they chose not to make it fully unlockable i expect PERFECT software. The easier way of course would be to let the community make the perfect roms by just open everything up...
Unlocked boot loader would be a great way of doing justice to their buyers, the reason we choose android is freedom, it sucks when it is taken away.
grant us nvflash and warranty and im a happy little boy
never going to happen. ill choose wiser next time i spend $650.

Sort out these thread titles. This is nothing of value to us who have the transformer prime, it is just the opinion of another member.
MOD EDIT: Don't flame other users please!

and same here.
Asus, my nuts. Do the math.
i will never buy an asus product again if things dont get worked out soon.
Totally agree. In had the tf101 and LOVED IT. I upgraded to the prime and still love it. But Asus, you need to clean up your act. Take note from manufactures like HTC. They fully unlock boot loaders and only partially void your warranty. After all the issues your "RIGOROUS" tests failed to catch, at least give us a fully unlocked boot loader with nv flash. That is not too much to ask, especially since you already voided are warranties.
I already decided to move on and away from Asus products. I have my Acer A510 that was cheaper and everything works on it flawlessly, and I had it rooted on the day it arrived from Amazon. My Prime now just sits around collecting dust till one of my kids decides to pick it up to play some of the Nintendo games on it, cause it's mainly used by my kids to play games on it now.
I'm just trying to look out for the Prime owners here I think we all deserve at least to be able to customize our device without losing our warranty. I don't think the original post was out of line, to be honest. We have been through the mud with this unit. Some people are happy they have Primes but they probably don't have any issues with it. I can see why they are happy on the other hand some of us have had issue from day one, and still have issues that aren't fixed, such as the ones stated in original post. I can say Mine isn't as bad as some on here its probably 90% operational but after giving you, Asus $650 of my money it should be 100% operational after 5 or 6 months IMO.
Thats All.

I thought about it but don't see a reason to buy 2 Tegra3 tablets, my decision will be different when Tegra4 or the next Mali from Sammy comes out. I like the Prime if they would just get it together, damn its been what 5 or 6 months. Give us something to show you understand the pains we went through with this unit. The GPS was a good gesture but it just doesn't fix all the wrongs and everything that we have had to deal with for a half year now.
Did someone even PM the man about this thread?
I would also like a fully unlocked bootloader, nvflash (which is getting near, it seems process of releasing nvflash is getting into negotiations, check one of the official asus threads by him), and access to hardware warranty. If nvflash is given to us with full permissions, and our bootloader is fully unlocked, i would definately feel obliged to congratulate asus despite being a company that puts us all through with a device that works fully for some, while others taste bad rma service and faulty design related issues (noticed a few days that my tablet is becoming bent from being connected to the dock, the aluminium back cover which is pretty but it seems that wifi is weaker because of that as well...) - i would enjoy my device much more.
i would even be fine if they removed tablets back cover and replaced it with other material, painted in the same color than the rest, to have stronger wifi. my tfp doesn't have "gps" written on the case, so i couldn't complain about that, even though i read in the device's spec sheet that it had gps when i searched about it. i almost don't use it, i'm pretty much about 2 locations right now: work/home.
i could go out, have this one rma'ed, buy another tablet like acer latest, once this one comes back evaluate if i should sell it, depending on factors described above. but i don't want to. i want to keep this, as it is a good machine, and with bootloader fully unlocked+nvflash+dualboot native linux/android, it would be sweet to have powerful wifi.
edit: and.. one other thing: no software is perfect, i'm afraid to disapoint you. it can always be improved.
