What resolution do we need for a proper scrolling wallpaper? I'm using nova launcher btw.

No idea, but it seems like an issue I've seen talked about on other forums as well.

I don't have my DNA yet so can't give you an absolutely authoritative answer, but based on previous 'phones I've had (and have), for a layout with five home screens, you'll want to double the horizontal pixel count - for example, for my current 480x800 display, the proper-sized wallpaper is 960x800.
Using that logic then, for your 1080x1920 screen you'll want a wallpaper which is 2160x1920 pixels.
Can't get any resolution to scroll, even with scrolling selected in apex.

+1 I've tried both Nova and Apex launchers. Can't get scrolling on anything except live wallpapers
download Picspeed wallpapers and set it with picspeed. then it will scroll
going to get mine in a week. Can;t wait to root it.
Picspeed didn't work for me.

I've a sneaking suspicion everything will suddenly start working once there's a proper JB ROM available - it's most likely Sense which is inhibiting the scrolling.
Why would HTC restrict this? What harm would come to us or HTC if they allowed scrolling wallpapers? At least make it an option and not the default one. Scrolling wallpaper comes standard with Android. That means HTC devs specifically eliminated it for god knows what reason. HTC you make amazing hardware yet you work so hard on this sense crap, devoting money and time into it when for no extra effort you have a better more elegant ui in stock 4.2 that requires no extra effort to put on. You save time and money and at the same time make users happier. Just lay off all your Sense dev employees. The time when a custom overlay over stock android was necessary is no longer required. The new stock android expereince is way more elegant than Sense or any other custom overlay. We are not living in the times of froyo or gingerbread here.
Scrolling wallpaper is one of the first things I get rid of as soon as possible. I like to use static backrounds as backdrops for adding custom widgets, shortcuts, etc. Non-scrolling screens are just what the doctor ordered for some of us.
The wallpaper setup is a bit strange though, it has you crop the image with this weird plus shaped crop tool so it fits for both landscape and portrait mode. So I suppose you need to use a 1920x1920 image and assume the four corners will get wasted.

Yes some people may not like it.... but why remove it completely? Why not just have an option for it?
Me too.
I'm having the same issue on my Samsung Epic 4g Touch. (Galaxy S2 from Sprint) I'm using The Blue Kuban ROM. I've tried Apex, Nova, and ADK launchers. I've also tried Wallpaper Wizardrii. No matter what I do, I can't get it to scroll. Has anyone found a solution?

I'm currently making an app that will let wallpapers scroll in sense but works with any launcher. You will be able to choose any photo to use, and effects. I have the fix implemented into my 2pac live wallpaper if anyone wants to test it out. This version isn't perfect but you get the idea, it will detect if you are using sense and auto apply the fix.
This does contain notification ads, I am experimenting with other ad types for the unreleased app. I will keep you guys posted on the status.

None of these really solved the issue. There isn't any software out there to do this? Why does sense make you crop the picture down so much?

wallbase.net is a good site for Wallpapers. They're all different sizes but if I like one I'll take the 5 seconds to resize it properly in PS. Also interfacelift, but I think everyone knows about that site.
I'm kinda bummed that I have a year's worth of VGA wallpapers collected and now I need to change sizes. Oh well.

I'm having trouble finding high quality wallpapers. Even if the resolution is 960x800 or higher the quality of the image itself may look jaggy when set as wallpaper.look at the preloaded wallpaper and it is crisp and clear and almost pops out of the screen, but all the "hd"wallpapers I have downloaded so far are not very crisp like the preloaded wallpaper once set as such. I'd like a black theme wallpaper too to take advantage of the supposed battery life increase.

so I downloaded a couple wallpapers in 960x800 size. When I go in to set them as my wp it makes me select a cropped area and makes the wp look like crap. How do I make the entire image my wp?

I have a small collection of mostly "babe" walls here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/shrivel
Me and a few friends all share a secondary dummy Gmail account on our android phones. Picasa is the only option set to sync on the phone, as such we can all dump wallpapers to this Picasa account and they will show up on all of our phones in the gallery. Its a pretty neat trick and one gigabyte of free space is plenty enough room for quite a few wallpapers.
Most of the galleries are 1920x1082 images, but they look great once cropped.
The first gallery is one of my favorite current artists, Audrey Kawasaki. These images are meant to be used with alternate launcher apps like ADW, that allow you to turn off wallpaper scrolling. If you hide the status bar in ADW with one of these images selected it will give your screen a nice rounded look.
http://picasaweb.google.com/wallshare/AudreyKawasakiWallpaper?feat=directlink
The others are all random, mostly high res wallpaper.

I have been using this concept on my phone for awhile, but I've never been a big fan of either LP or ADW (personally, I prefer Zeam). For my setup, I use Desktop VisualizeR for the transparent icons. If you are still having problems with FCs, give it a shot.

I've no talent with making wp, so I use various wp that I found on here. I tend to use minimalistic theming so I use the transparent Icons as a method of keeping my home screen clean while keeping it functional. What was shown in OP is far more sophisticated than anything I came up with on my own.

yesterday was my first day, so I certainly am no expert... but this is what I was doing to place icons and setting a shadow.....
open a new project, 800x960 I think?
ALT + Backspace makes it all Black
new layer, File > Place, choose icon, resize it, move it to where I want it and place it.
right click on the icon layer, duplicate, CTRL+T, right click, flip vertical.
Move it below the icon so it looks like a shadow and place it.
grab the eraser, change opacity to 30-40% and run over the bottom icon so it looks faded.
Once you do that, it looks like a shadow.... that is how I was doing it. I would love to learn how to just make a black shadow beneath the icon, because my next one is going to be glass shelves on a textured black background... with smaller/cleaner icons.
If I can get it back up and running, I've got some professional level 3D title/logo modeling and animation software (I used to work for the company), which would allow me to composite 3D icons drop them over whatever background I wanted. I'd be happy to share. I'll see what I can do about getting the software installed on my new computer this weekend.
All I'd need is .ai files of the icons with proper vector paths. I no longer have Illustrator.

With all the iPhone and iOS coverage recently, you might be experiencing a little iPhone envy. Sure, your Android phone already has many iOS 5 functions, but for some reason, the features just seem sexier on the iPhone.
To help you during this difficult time, we found a free app that makes your Android phone look and feel exactly like an iPhone. Actually, it's so believable, you might even forget about your iOS envy.
Espier Launcher replaces your default Android home screens with an iPhone-style interface.
Impressively enough, Espier even functions like an iPhone--swipe left to search your phone, create folders by dragging app icons over each other, swipe up to reveal the multitasking toolbar, and view notification counts on messages and missed calls.
You'll also find some things iOS lacks. For example, swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, then swipe right to access helpful shortcuts to Wi-Fi, rotation lock, network settings, brightness, and volume.
Here are some tips for navigating Espier Launcher:
If you have an older Android phone, the interface might be a little laggy, but can be improved by tapping the menu button, Preferences, and unchecking animation effects.
To uninstall an app from the home screen, tap an hold an app icon, and hit the X.
To rearrange apps, tap and hold any app and drag the icons to the desired location.
Close running apps by swiping up from the bottom of the screen, long-press an icon, and tap the minus sign on any apps you want to shut down.
To make Espier Launcher your default interface, tap the home button, check the box next to "use by default for this action," and tap Espier Launcher.
Let's be honest--it's probably only a matter of time before Espier disappears from the Android Market. It's a blatant rip-off of Apple's mobile operating system, so don't expect it to stick around. Grab it now so you can enjoy the interface, even for just a while.

I mean, isn't Android all about customisation? Now we have satisfied both Android AND iPhone needs. All in one!
I mean, it has been in the Market for about a month. Yes, it might not be great. But, it is actually the only app I have seen that responds to user requests.
Give it some time and it will end up looking as good as the iPhone launcher itself.
Sure, Android is more Widgets. But, for people who do not actually use widgets, this is a GREAT app.

1440x1280 is the correct resolution. If you use the gallery to select the wallpaper, it will always say its cropping - just pull the cropping box out to the full size, so it covers the whole image, and it will use the wallpaper in full resolution with no cropping.

So I know that there is a thread for homescreens already, but I wanted to make one that was for beautiful designs only. Just putting up a screenshot is alright, but giving it a body and background makes it even better. The idea is to get unique looking designs up to inspire others to design beautiful homescreens. In otherwords, this isn't for screenshots like this:

Gives me a lot of Inspiration/Ideas on what to do with my phone.

Thanks! Its Apex Launcher Pro to get the widget overlapping as well as the red notifications. The black and blue edges are actually UCCW Clock widgets. Its a great app to make stylish homescreens. I've found it a little taxing on the battery and system speed though to have that many widgets running.
O and yes, it is Fourth Bar Jellybean. I've tried Cm9 but I found it to unstable to use as a daily driver. Plus Fourth Bar works almost flawlessly as Aosp aside from the Signal bars missing.
Looks like someone's in engineering.
Awesome home screens btw!

No... Not really. I dislike math with a passion! Most likely computer science with a focus on UX design.

Thank you for starting this thread CRAIGTUT. I remember one like this in the G2 forum that grew to a couple hundred pages. Great ideas from some creative minds. I like what you did with yours. It gave me one or two ideas with mine. I'll get a couple screen shots up soon. :good:
dude you make the amaze beautiful.
That UCCW is a little hard for me to configure haha. I cant manage to make anything look right. :silly:

Visit the UCCW thread on XDA - You will be pleasantly surprised at all the work that has been shared there, it will give you more than enough time to figure UCCW out to make your own creations.
It's one of the top five threads on XDA as far as I am concerned
-Desktop Visualizer
-Tron icon pack and Icy cm9 icons for ADW EX
- Beautiful Widgets
Not too "unique" i guess because I still use the normal android grid style setup but I like ics blue and everything (almost) matches
Feedback welcome...

Ironically enough, just today I decided to take the time to redo my homescreen, and looking at others in the post your homescreen thread was just pages and pages of the same stuff. Not to offend anyone but the majority of what is there is just too busy and cheap looking, I wanted something different, so I finally ended with this.
