I have several videos i want to transfer from sd card back to my computer.
But everytime i try it just cuts of the transfer and doesnt move any files.
With my old phone it was read as removable device and with teracopy i could move all that i wantd.
But with S3 it mounts my device as "GT-I9300 Portable Media Player" not as SD card.
I would use a sd card adaptor but my sd card is encrypted so will only work with phone.
Is there a way around this and mount the phone as a removable device or are there programs to manage the file transfer from phone to pc?

WiFi file transfer Pro is my suggestion. It doesn't require a cable - you just connect to the same wifi network as your comp. and then type an adress in the url bar and then download/upload as you please to both internal and external sd.
Thanks for your reply.
Wifi file transfer pro is a paid app, if there a way to do this using the transfer cable as i usually move several gigs over from my phone to computer and back and prefer to use a reliable connection.
Also i am unable to use teracopy to transfer my files like before i am limited to just move and when try moving several files it makes the next set copy across instead of moving.
Use Airdroid
It's free & it's actually the dogs nuts. It's on every pc, laptop & phone I own.

my gtablet recognizes the folder sdcard as a folder in the internal memory and the microsd as sdcard2 for some reason. when i plug it into my computer, i cant access the actual sdcard2 folder, so i cant access the micro sd. anyone have any experience with this? or any fixes?
thanks a lot. im running tntlite 4.4.0 on it.
That is how it is supposed to be on most ROMs...not just TnT
Pull out the microSD card, plug it into an adapter and plug the adapter into your computer. Then you will be able to read and transfer files!
Or just copy whatever you need to the SDCARD and use a File Manager to transfer them to SDCARD2 once you are on the tablet...
Right now, there is no way to mount both SDCARD and SDCARD2 at the same time to your computer via the tablet
Actualy there are a few apps on Market that do exactly that; some are add supported so you can try for free. Search for SDCard Mount or MutiMount.
I use the add supported Multi Mount SD-Card. Works fine.
SDcard2 dead!

I'd be careful using these. I got one out of the market that allowed you to access the external sd card. Everything went fine. I copied some of my music to the card and then disconnected from the pc. When I went to look at the sdcard2 folder via RootExplorer, I found that 2.39 GB of my 32GB card was used but could not access anything on the card. Now, my g-tab refuses to even see that I have an external card installed and I can't even get the format option in settings to attempt to rescue the card.

eek that sucks. which one did you use?
get ESfile explorer. you can move stuff back and forth between sdcards or a server location. you can also copy from lan location to sdcard2
is that on the market or somewhere else?
it also is installing all of my games and stuff to the tablet internal memory. liek the dungeon defenders stuff.. all of it is downloaded onto the tablet sdcard folder, not onto the sdcard (sdcard2). anyone have any workaround for that?

I'll respond and say it was Multi Mount SD-Card. That's the one I tried, with the same results. I can not get the GTab to read an external card at all. Can see card fine on PC though. I would surely stay away from that one.
I use file explorer to move to the SD Card. THis is a pita and a waste of time. The fastest thing to do is to put it in an SDCARD reader and place it in the PC.
This would be a nice fix and an app worth a buck or two.

When i connect USB cable to my SGS3 to access content of external SD card I see multiple duplicates of folders on the root of the card. There are 3-5 instances of all folders on root of the card with exactly the same names. Some folders are empty, some of them have files without extensions, some of them seem to be real folders with real content in them.
I have tried to checkdisk with error fixing on my PC for this card in a card reader. It didn't help. The folders, when card is used in a card reader are OK, they aren't having any duplicates. I have tried to format SD card for a few times already and then transfer my data from PC to card again, it didn't help and was getting worse after each such try as the number of folder duplicates was just increasing then.
ES File Explorer isn't showing any duplicates.
This thing is really annoying and makes me mad.
Please suggest me any cure for that. Thanks in advance
MTP mode is heavily flawed, hopefully an update fixes it.
If you're rooted you can use Easy UMS Apk (see General section) to mount the external Sd in Mass storage mode on your computer

Thanks, it seems to work
Those who are better advanced using MTP please advice...
Issue I am coming from a VZW Thunderbolt my old SD card is in the S3. It still seems to pickup ringtones, videos, pictures from the ext. sdcard. As we know we cannot see the ext card or save to the external card. So I am a bit lost how to manage myself since the S3 pulls in some files from the ext sdcard but I cannot save or see that card using the S3.... Do I still add certain files to the MTP space and drop using the ext. sdcard or try to figure out what the MTP can see and manage both storage areas?
How do you handle data that is on the ext. sdcard with the built-in storage MTP?
If I go all MTP...is there a way to back that up to say the ext. sdcard via from the S3?
When I do a Clockworks backup I assume that goes to the MTP space?
Thx fam any input is helpful...
I don't like using MTP because it always seems unreliable when copying multiple files. I prefer to install SwiFTP on the phone and run that as an FTP site while connecting to it from Filezilla on my computer. Then you can transfer files wirelessly via FTP. I find it to be more reliable when copying lots of files.
Has anybody got any tips on how to copy a largish file to the INTERNAL card, A you know MTP almost ALWAYS fails near the end. And I can't find anyway to mount the internal card as UMS. the only way so far is to copy to external car (using easy UMS or just taking card out and putting it into PC). I've never had these problems with my LG Optimus 2X or Optimus 4X. I thought the S3 was a slight step up from my 4X but after using it for a week I'm getting the feeling its a fair step down
ADB? Haven't tried such large files and didn't know there was a problem. Can you save it to external and then transfer it?
yes can save it to external and transfer it just like I already said in my first post. Seems a bit strange to have to spend so much time doing something most other phones can do. I was looking for a way just to transfer large files from PC to internal.

I use FTP - FileZilla on the lappy and EFS file manager on the galaxy.

I have transferred close to hundred of times files larger than 700MB (of which probably 30+ times files over 1.2GB) to the INTERNAL card by MTP and I NEVER had a single problem. NOT ONCE, NOT A SINGLE ONE!

the fact u say the card works for other devices with large files, rules out the card being the problem, maybe re-install your mtp drivers? "delete - plug phone - re-install?
ive sent a few game data folders to the sd using standard mtp transfer and only twice it froze, and i mean froze my pc and the phone, only way to get either to respond was to unplug the usb
One : use card reader to copy files into external and then move it to internal.
Two: reboot into custom recovery and mount external as USB, copy and move
Three : something in theme section I don't exactly remember its name, mount external as USB mass storage device

Guys I can transfer EVERY time to EXTERNAL then move to INTERNAL. I have NO problem transfering to EXTERNAL at all. I was just looking to see if anybody has fixed the samsung problem with the INTERNAL card like I did say in my first post I have no problem with the EXTERNAL card just when being forced to use MTP for internal transfers they seem to fail more often than not. If I mount my EXTERNAL card as mass storage I have NEVER had a failed transfer.
squ89r97 Thaks for the advice, i'm gonna try FTP.
Yep squ89r97's way just works EVERY time. no longer do i think will mtp lockup or will mtp just fail.
So I just got a 64GB Samsung EVO microSD for my HTC One M8. I installed it, and plugged my phone into my pc to transfer some music onto it.
I started by moving the music off the device storage onto the card through windows explorer, and it seemed to be transferring fine. It was taking a while as I had about 7Gb of music on the device already. Then like an idiot I unplugged the phone from the new dock I just got and was trying to get to work with my phone cases, while the files were still transferring.
Now, it won't let me paste anything to the SD card or device storage. Dragging files across to the SD card or device just freezes the folder icon where I dropped it. I am using clover as a windows explorer augment, if that makes any difference. But it doesn't look like I can transfer anything to the SD card from my phone either, as I just tried moving the music across with ES file explorer, and it came up with an error about needing a root to write to SD.
I have tried formatting the microSD from the phone, uninstalling the pc drivers for the phone and letting it reinstall them. Tried removing the card then replacing it, and restarting the phone. I have tried using SnapPea to transfer files across, all to no avail. Strangely, SnapPea and ES File Explorer are listing two SD cards, the first being identical to the files on the device storage, and the second being the actual SD.
I have no idea what is going on. I don't have a card reader to try formatting the card without the phone involved, but it seems like ejecting the phone erroneously has messed up the device storage as well seeing as I can't transfer files to either from my PC now.
