I have a 5.0 Korean (GB70), I run stock KPL korean firmware with root.
In one year time tested many roms none of them was 100% working for me. Some are promising but unfinished for many reasons.

I have a YP-G70 intl and I use stock rom with rj's kernel, the ICS roms are nice but doesn't have hw accelaration and camera so its not for me, since I use the device mostly for netflix.

Chip 1.5 on Entropy kernel (SGP 5.0 US).
Occasionally I see slight moments where the device waits before registering input (between once a day and once a week, usually while scrolling). I don't have the Google Voice APK or the Notepad that Samsung included with the Player, and I haven't spent enough time searching for ways to reinstall them.
On the plus side, games that were a little glitchy before run a bit smoother. I also really like the expanded controls on top of the notification tab.
Chip is a Gingerbread based ROM, so it could be better on an ICS ROM.

I am using the ParanoidAndroid Port Beta 1.1. It runs very nicely. Just needs YouTube and Netflix support, a few speed increases, and its good enough to run daily.

Debloated stock w/ Entropy512's kernel
Just tested CM10 Alpha 4 and it is gorgeous, if you own the GP5 USA you have to try it! Buttery smooth!

IcyFusion + Klin's R3 kernel. Going to change to one of the newer 4.0.4 roms (Codename: Nebula, Linaro, or PΔRΔNOIDΔNDROID ) when most or all of the bugs are fixed.

Slightly tweaked stock 2.3.6 with rumirand kernel.
Also testing CM10 alphas weekly.

Entropy512's kernel & JackpotClavin's CM9 and I'm patiently waiting for CM10

I've tried all the gingerbread roms, and I'd say by far the best I had used was the gamerz rom for 4.0 player by hanthesolo with the terrasilent kernel.

I use PA on the USA 5.0. It's great! Despite lack of HWA and Cam, I love it.

Stock GB with rj's kernel
then overclocked to 1.3 GHz
5.0 intl

I've got the US 4.0 running ParanoidAndroid v1.6 beta1.1, pretty smooth for me so far, really liking having the notification bar and on-screen buttons at the bottom

I'm using terra silent kernel and icy fusion ROM along with launcher pro. Its a stable combo and every thing works. Performance isn't bad either

Thinking about ics

Its been awhile since I have browsed the sgs2 forums and I stop in and notice ics is all over here. So I'm thinking of upgrading my girls s2 to 4.0 and I want opinions and stability and function of the current roms.
I'm leaning towards aokp or cm9. I have cm9 on my note and a500 so I'm fond of it obviously.
Coming from gb rooted w/ cwm full wipe and good to go I assume? I ask because in the n7k forum the leaked kernals suck and there were all these stupid methods for going from gb to ics...
Anyway thanks.

Yup full wipe. I am not running either of those ROM's so cant comment on them. I have been following Task's AOKP thread. That may be the next one I try.
If you'd like to try a Samsung based rom, give ShoStock2 a try. It's the best I've ever tried.

Ultimatum and SHOstock are excellent. AOKP is pretty sweet too.

ICS is well worth the upgrade
I've been running CM9 since the first nightly. I love it. Haven't had any issues.

I've been running aokp for a few weeks and love it so far. It has been pretty stable and fast as hell. I'm sure things are even better in the latest build, but I haven't flashed yet.
Its like when GB became available and everyone was still on Froyo- once you open the desert and have a taste, your likely not gonna go back. And now that video recording is fixed- its all gravy baby
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Definitely go with AOKP, it's stable, fast, full of features, and rocks great battery life.
The only benefit of the Samsung ICS is MHL.

If MHL is a must, i think you're stuck with TW for now. My final choice was between aokp and cm9. Check the support/discussion threads, big difference...
No need for MHL I just want a stable ics rom for her because her miui rom is buggy as heck.
Thanks guys ill keep watching the dev section. For me aokp and cm9 are really similar so it just comes down to battery life and stability which is different for each person.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Aokp all the way baby, super stable and awesome battery. Way better than gb
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
I've been using shoshock lastest gingerbread build. it's great. I'm waiting for a while.
Running AOKP and it's running great.
Just flash Siyah's kernel and go for dual boot to check both Samsung and AOKP/CM9 roms together.
I've been running CM9 since the first nightly. I love it. My phone feels brand new and I don't feel like upgrade it, except I want LTE.
Thanks everyone. I flashed aokp for the extra settings and customization. Its been super stable so far and battery is good but will be better once it settles. Might try siyah might not???
Anyone recommend a Better modem? Have you been getting batter with gb ones or ics ones.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
I'd go with CM9 nightlies simply because it's supported by ROM Manager which makes it ridiculously easy to flash new updates, which come very fast by the way...plus it's CM9. Good luck.
Cm9 is nice I use it on my tablet and note but lacks some features I know my girl requires.

I tested the latest LD3 but decided to change back to LC5, it is faster than the old modems and seems more stable in my area. I have been running AOKP for a while and love it.
I am enjoying CM9. Lots of Entropy involvement. Good team working on it.

P7500 to slow for CM10

Saw today the nexus 7 running jelly bean and was surprised how smooth it was, so was wondering whether the p7500 is too slow (overclocked to 1400 which helped a bit but still miles away) or its because CM is still in early development
** Sent from P7500 running CM10 Alpha **
I've tried pershoots CM10 experimental Build on my p7501 at 1000mhz. For me it's very smooth.
smoother then the stock or cm9 rom.
The P7500 should be capable to run CM10.

i heard that pershoot cm10 built has a working camera (rear)...is that true??
I have CM10 experimental build on my GT-P7500, and it's pretty smooth.
It may not be 100% perfect, but it's a lot smoother than a stock HC ROM.

Yep big difference from hc to ics ota. A bit smoother but not a lot when i went from ics to cm10. Latest cm10 does have both cams working. You can take pictures but video doesnt work and no mic

Fastest ROM and kernel combination?

Hello. Can I get some suggestions for the fastest ROM and kernel combination for the fascinate? I have looked all over Google but honestly couldn't find anything relatively new. I want something that can handle a decent overclock, is stable, and is very fast so I can play games with no lag. Any suggestions? I honestly would rather GB over ICS but if getting ICS is what it takes to get maximum speed, then I will go for it. But I would appreciate GB Rom and kernel combinations and ICS ROM and kernel combinations along with some pros and cons of each. That would be great. Thank you!
Bump

CM7 and 9 are pretty fast. I'd stay away from JB for now, as it is surprisingly slow. MIUI has good looks and speed but gets literally HALF the battery life CM9 does. The only kernel in town for CM7 is Glitch, witch is a good one. For ICS you have a choice between Devil Kernel and IcyGlitch. Devil has more features and is my preferred kernel, especially since IcyGlitch as the buggy TWRP recovery.
I like aokp m6 with the devil kernel. very fast and stable

Honestly, Helly Bean ROM version 20120807 isn't slow at all. It supports a 1.4GHz overclock and runs 4.1.1. Unlike other ROMs, HB uses /datadata partition to make things quick and smooth. However, no kernel uses /datadata, so the stock kernel has to be used. But i love it.

I have experienced better battery life on MIUI for my HD2 than CM7 or CM9.

Thank you. I think I will try the AOKP ROM. I'm using CM7 as of now with the Glitch kernel but the battery life isn't that great and it's as slow as turtle.

[Q] (Player 5.0 US) Custom ROMS cause screen to stutter?

Every time I install a custom ROM when I scroll down any list the screen will stutter and freeze for like 3 seconds and then start working and it repeats that process. It's weird because the actual ROM does not lag at all framerate wise. This has happened to every ROM I have installed. (CM9, Eryigit 2.3.7) Right now I'm using Entropys daily kernel on a rooted stock ROM with no stutter and I'm about to try AOKP milestone 6. Please help me with this. It just seems pointless to have all these new features with ahorrible stutter.
Sent from my YP-G70
I never had anything like this . Maybe your device has a defect? I've tried all the ICS Roms and never had any "stutter". But if your problem is fixed by using GB , i would say stick to it , cause ICS still has many bugs..
I've noticed that problem with Entropy's kernel. If you use the stock ROM with his kernel it'll surface eventually. Always got fixed when I went back to the stock kernel though.
Yes, I'm pretty sure its the kernel... it is absolutely annoying, wish Entropy do something about it. (Not happening soon)
Sent from my YP-G70 using xda app-developers app
Alright I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just me. Right now I'm using AOKP milestone 6 and its running pretty well. I only get that stutter once in a while. But yeah I hope entropy fixes it soon.

[Q] Roms for Samsung Galaxy Player 5

Hello,
I like to know which roms are 100% functionally for Samsung Galaxy Player 5.
Thanks & Greetings
Personally for something 100% functional I would go with Chip v1.5 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737432
However, If you want something buttery smooth try out Jackpot's CM10.1 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2208046
It is android 4.2.2 JellyBean(the newest available!) The only thing not working is, pictures and videos with the BACK camera, everything else is ok.

Thankssss, i'm waiting for someone rom with 4.x.x and 100% functionally
I used Chip for a while and it was very stable, a reliable daily ROM. I flashed Jackpot's newest 10.1 last night and so far it's very stable and fluid. BUT it is still in dev, so any number of issues could potentially come up.
