V1
removed some old apps
replaced the stock joyos launcher with Espier launcher (more smooth and more iPhone like)
replaced the boot image
added some build.prop tweaks
Overall performance is great and stable, just like CM7.2
Standard installation instructions:
Do the same stuff as with CM7.2
Complete noob's installation instructions:
0. FIRST OF ALL CHECK IF YOUR PHONE IS A GSM (R800i) PHONE! If you live in America/Canada, it most probably isn't! Also check if your bootloader is already unlocked, if it's not, go here
1. Download Flashtool from here (Make sure you also install the correct drivers!)
2. Download the stock .62 baseband FTF from here
3. Load it into Flashtool
4. Put your device in flash mode when asked (Hold BACK while connecting to USB)
5. Wait for it to finish
6. Get fastboot from here and unpack it to a convenient location (Again, make sure your drivers are OK!)
7. Click the download link below here and open the PLOYOS.zip and copy the boot.img you can find in there into the fastboot folder
8. Shift right-click on the blank background of the folder (Have nothing selected) and click open command window here (or whatever that is in your system language)
9. Type
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
and wait for it to finish flashing
10. Then boot up your phone and press the volume down key when the led in your power button gets lit
11. In recovery navigate with the volume keys to data/factory reset, then confirm with the home button (or search, not sure) then do the same thing but select cache, and then move to advanced and in there choose wipe dalvik cache
12. Go back and choose mounts and storage>mount sdcard
13. Plug in your USB and copy the iPlayOS.zip / PLOYOS.zip to your SD card
14. Go back all the way and choose Install zip from SD Card
15. Look for the iPlayOS.zip / PLOYOS.zip and wait for it to finish installing
16. Reboot, and all should work now! If it doesn't, you have either done something wrong or your phone isn't a GSM Xperia Play
I hope that is a clear enough guide ! At least I don't have to explain anything about that now (I hope)
Download links:
Old
PLOYOS v1 (original)
New
iPlay OS v2 Full
iPlay OS v2 Lite version (To see wich apps I removed refer to the changelog above)
'OMG YOU DELETED THIS AND THAT APP THAT I REALY NEED'
Don't sweat, just download either the full version, or both the lite and full version,
open them both up in winrar, navigate both to system/app and just drag the apps that you realy need from the full version to the light version.
thanks to
ijustintouch for the awesome boot animation

Okay I got it booting, but it freezes straight away and reboots.

Make sure you got a GSM device (R800i)
If you live in America, you probably don't have one.
If you do have a GSM device, try a fresh install with the stock 62 firmware, flash the boot.img included in the ployos.zip in fastboot, and do a full factory reset before flashing just to be sure ( wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, advanced>wipe dalvik cache)

Hmm thats strange... I don't have any problems at all and get the same screen on first boot. You say cm7.2 also doesn't work? Maybe try following all instructions to the letter or asking in the FXP cm7.2 thread I know it shouldn't be a problem with this rom because it does work for me and others

I n s t a l l a t i o n (if something goes wrong - bootloop, error, etc. - especially for locked bootloaders):
1. Download Flashtool PC programm (it's sticked in Development section - in first 4 threads)

3. Flash it via Flashtool, but choose "exclude kernel!" (you'll be guided by instructions in programm)
4. Go to CWM Recovery (of course with ROM on sdcard)
5. Format /system via "mounts and storage in CWM"
6. Flash ROM with AROMA and reboot

Ah ok, can you set up ADB, because it's needed to get access to your root folder.
Afterwards, you need to download this file, it's the firmware for your device https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B4AdByfaH4T0WWJEQlNjeHg4bzg/edit
If you have setup your adb and it's running, extract the firmware on your desktop and go to the path "simcom77_twn_cu_ics2-ota-I968.I968.02.05.G.A-V1.0.1B04P85.zip\system\media" without quotes, and copy all the files (via adb) in your phone's /system/media/ and before doing that delete the previous files that are corrupted. After that your phone will be fixed!

Did you make a Nandroid Backup when you first Rooted the Device ? If so, Boot into Recovery. Then restore your Nandroid. If not then you can either Flash a Custom Rom, or the Stock Rom Rooted. Either should resolve your issues.

Hi,
I have successfully rooted my Xperia U phone (with ICS 4.0.1), and also installed the CWM.
I have downloaded the experience 2.1.zip rom file and placed the same in internal memory also.
Now when I restart my phone to be able to boot in recovery mode, I am not able to do so.
As soon as press power button, multi-coloured illumination doesn't take place in LED bar. As soons as Sony logo appears, I start pressing the 'Volume Down' button repeatedly, but nothing happens. It simply goes to Xperia logo animation screen and boots the phone with older ROM only.
Am I missing something. Please help. I want to install custom ROM to upgrade to JB, but I am not able to do so as I am not able to boot my phone in Recovery mode, which is required to flash the current ROM and installing new ROM on top of it (as per m knowledge).
Please Help. Urgent.
If video can be uploaded for the solution, i would highly appreciate the work and effort becoz I got frustrated now after following so many procedures given on internet to root / install CWM / boot in recovery. I am done with first two things: Rooting and Installing CWM. I struggling hard to reboot my phone in CWM mode
Thanks in advance.

those that have locked bootloader after the flash of a rom lose the recovery, you have to reinstall

You better go unlock your bootloader. Trust me, it's better because custom kernels have CWM. But if you want to install CWM your LB phone, it can be done too, by using RecoverX on Windows. Just post your questions here again if you have more problems

The only problem is that I am not able to get into RECOVERY MODE after rebooting phone. It starts normally. I am breaking my head with this thing only .

I've already unlocked the bootloader by going on the website ''unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com". I 've rooted it successfully.
The only problem is that I am not able to get into RECOVERY MODE after rebooting phone. It starts normally. I am breaking my head with this thing only .
Can you provide your valuable answer or suggestions!
Thanks.

Hi,
I followed the steps mentioned in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2020897, and now I am able to get my phone restarting in CWM recovery mode. I successfully installed a new custom rom 'eXperience v2.1' with XPERIA Z look and feel. But I dint get the following points after doing this :
1. My phone info still says that it has ICS 4.0.4 version. (JB was expected)
2. All settings are related to ICS stock only
Only look and feel is changed as like in xperia Z.
Can you help me in this, why it din't update to JB?
Thanks.

Hi guys,
I'm using Xperia sola rooted phone with 4.0 and I was installing metamorph - lock theme and the phone restarted and it is going in an endless loop of resarts.
It's possible to put the phone completely off by using power & volume key combo, also i can put the device under flashboot and fastboot mode.
Kindly tell me a way outta this !!
I won't be getting a cell phone for another year I guess
@xtro55
Do you have CWM and if you do does it have adb?
Post a link to the theme file.

CWM isnt installed on my xperia sola sadly
This is the theme file : "droidpirate.com/2011/09/14/metamorph-droid-bionic-lock-slider-bionic/"
prior to this, an app named metamorph was installed.
I can put the device in flashboot/fastboot though!
Any chances that I can recover the phone?

If you bootloader is unlocked you can try flash a kernel with CWM that support adb.
If not, do you have the FTF file for the firmware that is currently installed?
I would try at first flashing system.sin only from the firmware FTF, no wipes everything else expluded.
You will lose root and other modes copied directly to /system but you should have data intact.

Well no CWM installed & I haven't done the unlocking of bootloader yet.
Yeah I do have these two files in my flashtool firmware folder which I used :
MT27i_6.1.1.B.1.10_KERNEL.ftf
MT27i_6.1.1.B.1.54_KERNEL.ftf
Which one are you referring to, since I had to use .10 first followed by .54 to get the root done !
Can you please point to a tutorial where I can follow the steps which you are referring to? That will be helpful

But flash overrides and erase everything.
For root didn't you just had to install kernel .10 over .54 firmware no?
Anyway the system from the one that is flashed now you the only one that knows which, I am guessing .54

Check this link: "theunlockr.com/2013/09/10/how-to-root-the-sony-xperia-sola-running-6-1-1-b-1-54-firmware/"
I used the above method to get the root done. Yeah it's running .54 currently. But the rooting wasn't the issue, it happened successfully, the theme which I mentioned gave me endless loop of restarts problem.

I just said that flashing system will make you lose anything that's on it, in that includes root
