"Call" Voice Command only searching Contacts - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been using voice commands for years on my Nexus S from the Gingerbread incarnation of Google Search all the way until 4.1.2 and Google Now. One of my most frequently used commands is Call. For example, if I wanted to call the nearest Best Buy, I would simply say "Call Best Buy." This always worked perfectly up until a few days ago. Before, it would bring up a card with the nearest one or two Best Buys and a phone icon to call them instantly. Now, whenever I use the Call command to search, it only returns people from my contacts who may have one or two letters in common with what I searched for.
I find that if I wipe the data for Google Search, the problem goes away temporarily. Usually within the next day, however, it stops working again. I am syncing Google Now with my Gmail account, so I'm not sure if there is some setting being restored by the sync that is breaking this functionality.
Here's my setup:
OS: CM10 Stable (4.1.2)
Phone: Nexus S AT&T (i9020a)
Google Search: Latest version w/ Google Now
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I use this feature all the time, and it's very annoying when it doesn't work.

I know more people than us our having this same issue. Wish there was a solution!

Weird. I don't have this issue. :|

Having problems too with Mikmik rom. I'm gonna try nandroiding back to the stock rom, TB GV there and then go back to the rom of choice and restore GV via TB. You should do the same
Zero issues on Synergy's ROMs. Took some trial and error to get it to work properly though.
Since the idiots at Google and Sprint BROKE GV with that **** ass integration, you have to skip the initial set up screen, then log in. then skip, then go to your "Call" settings and choose it as your voicemail carrier.
All that depends you having it set up properly in the web site as well. Dialing *28 is what I had to do 2 years ago.

Two Google Voice Numbers

Hello everyone,
I currently have two Google Voice numbers, one for personal and one for work. I'd like to be able to use them both on my phone, but I'm not entirely sure how I'd go about doing it. I saw this thread but it never got any response.
I want to use my personal Google Voice number with my main Google Voice app, but be able to access my work Google Voice number through another app or some other way.
Does anyone out there have any idea how I could go about doing this?
Thanks!
Ricky

I would say access one with the app.
The other in browser set your cell number to receive text messages (regular SMS app) / calls.

Google Voice Voice Mail vs. Stock Voice Mail

I have been hearing alot of people using the google voice voice mail over the stock voice mail. Can someone chime in and explain what are the advantages of using the GVM vs stock? Also how do you go about this? Any help is appreciated.
In my case, its I go Google VM for the network saving + the many other features of Google Voice.
I rather not lose my Voicemail access between devices & so I like accessing them from anywhere.
Google Voice can be used for just VM but I cant help you there as I've fully integrated. I do recommend going Google Voice entirely though.

I completely integrated, it works great. They are supposed to be working on integrating mms too but so far it doesn't work well
You get another phone number that you can have forwarded to any other phone or multiple phones. You can set people in different groups and set different options for each group. You can have different outgoing messages for each contact or group so your friends here one thing, but your boss hears another. You get great long distance rates using your google voice number. I think it's still free to Canada. Perfect if you don't want to give out your real number or if you want one number to consolidate a bunch of phone numbers. You can block numbers you don't want calling you anymore. If you're going to be busy you can use the "do not disturb" feature which sends people right to voicemail. You get so much more space for voicemails. And they are all organized just like google mail. You can star messages and keep them forever.
So much and it's all free. Why not just try it? Here's the google voice features video
I finally got it setup properly a few days ago and I'm loving it. Blown away by all the features. During setup, using my phones browser, when it got to the part where I called my phone from the website (ON my phone ), and I recorded my greeting from the website on my phones browser , I knew this was some good sh1t.
And I love having the voicemails accessible directly from call log.

If you haven't already, try adding grooVe IP into the mix to really have your mind blown.
I really like it anyway. The only small drawback is about a 2-3 second delay on (free)voice calls

[Q] Google Voice Search not finding contacts

My phone is synced with both a Google account and an Exchange account. I have contacts on both and can see them find in "Contacts" application.
However, when I use Google Voice Search (the little microphone on home screen) and say Call Bob or Send Text to Bob, it does not work. In the stock ICS rom, it used to do random stuff like searching web for a random business. I've since flashed Houstonn's JB ROM. Now I see that my voice command is transcribed perfectly i.e. when I say Call Bob Buster, I see the text "Call Bob Buster", but it just says Contact not found and gives me a link to "find contact". If I use that link and type in Bob Buster, it finds the contact.
So, the transcribing is perfect, plain text search works, but they using voice search to dial does not work. What gives? Same thing happens with Google Contacts and Exchange Contacts.
Any one else encounter this? Any workarounds? Thanks in advance.
Voice Control Works
Sorry to reply to my own post, but after I posted the above, It hit me that I should try another voice assistant that uses Google Voice Search engine/api. So I tried the Voice Control (Test). I've tried it in the past with stock ICS ROM without much success. However, in the JB ROM, it works great for almost all my contacts. So, it appears that the voice search engine is greatly improved in JB, but the the app/interface is some how broken.
I guess I'll go pay $1.99 to buy the full version of Voice Control.
EDIT: --Further Info--
First, I just figured out that there is an "Edit" button on this forum, so didn't have to make a new reply. Sorry about that.
I guess I was on a roll. After posting above, it occurred to me that there is an "offline voice engine" in JB. So I made sure that the offline data is downloaded and turned off wifi and mobile data. Voice Control just plain stopped saying no network available. May be it wasn't using the API properly. But here is the surprising part. I can now call many of my contacts with the call command just fine now (Google Voice Search).
So, I've tested turning data back on and same old problem of "can not find contact". I've repeated this 2-3 times. Same contact can be called when I am offline (no data), but not if I am connected. I guess Google is doing something funky when I am online?
Google Search Update Feb 13
The Google Search update on Feb 13 appears to have mostly fixed this issue. I am at 50-60% success rate in dialing my contacts. But the contacts it previously transcribed correctly, but couldn't find in my contacts are now being transcribed incorrectly. Oh well, I guess it is a step in the right direction.

Just curious, but when you hit the mic button, then tap the menu button for settings, there should be an option to check phone search. Select phone search and see what options are checked off. Make sure contacts is ticked and anything else you want search to look through. If you've already done this, my bad!

Thanks for the pointer. I didn't know about the settings option after hitting the mic button. All the proper things including the Contacts are selected for search.

You may want to try Google Now instead of just voice search. If you're on ICS there are a couple hacked versions around. If back on JB, it's probably already installed. Make sure it's on/active. I've been getting pretty good search results with it (including contacts) and I'm on Slick ROM v6.

Trying to understand . Business messages /google play services/ different device.

1: ) When contacting a business via phone I seen a voice to text service. Not sure where that was coming from. Never figured that out except it looked like visual voice mail? IDK, says transcript on the phone log. Some of them don't have it.
2 When my wife contacted a business yesterday I received a script on my phone while she was in text or a call. Unsure , We have each others google accounts on each others phones. Easier for apps, calendar etc. She is on a different network, so not sure why a text or a voice chat would come across .
When clicking on the program used it says google play services.
3 Some company left me a voice mail last week and I seen a notification and cleared it, now I cannot find where it was at or location it was. My regular voice mail with ATT is working , but some voice mail goes to Youmail if not a business . This one in particular wasn't sent to either one. Just the notification and gone.
Looked like a similar format of the voice transcript.
I contacted ATT ( They have no clue)
Asked in discord , some help but nothing explaining what it is.(Thank you for the one who helped some)
Asked on Google community help ( no answer ).
And yes I give it time, few days , week etc.
Here is a screen shot of the text or voice that my wife did that started coming across my phone for some reason. If I close it out I have no idea where to find the transcript?
Google pixel 6 pro rooted.
Help for figuring out this "feature" would be appreciated.
