i've been wondering if anyone else has been having any issues with mean rom ics, i've flashed it twice, and even done a full wipe and everything. but it seems every time i restart (or the phone powers down) i go through about 6 - 10 crashes before it can run stable enough for me to use it at all. has anyone else had this issue or have this issue and can shed any light on what could be causing it?
Strange. Are you s-on or s-off?
Read, Search, Read again, ... Then Ask with Tapatalk 2
Im s-off via Juopunutbear. My phone came with bootloader 1.50 but I updated for ics using what was posted Here, so I could retain s-off
I was having some odd things happen when I first moved to MeanROM 2.6 as well so I flashed the 2.89 RUU when it became available to make sure that the software and firmware were completely in sync. That's pretty easy to do if you are S-OFF since all you have to do is connect your phone to a Windows PC and run the RUU.exe, then flash a custom recovery and optionally a different bootloader.
Things seem to be a little smoother for me after flashing the 2.89 RUU as a base.

but isn't flashing via bootloader the firmware bits doing (the long-ish way) the same thing as what the RUU would do? I'm still on the stock HTC bootloader for 1.58 because i was updated to it from the firmware bits, but if the RUU does something extra then maybe i would benefit from flashing with it. but i mean i also have MIUI 2.8.17 and i installed it (after i was able to use my phone) through boot manager a few weeks after installing MeanROM and booting to it yields me no issues of crashing or anything. do note its based off (supposedly) the GSM port for the E3D as well as files from the sprint/htc ICS release

There's no guaranty that flashing the RUU will fix anything but it did seem to help on my phone. The RUU flashes both the stock ROM and all the firmware, including the bootloader, so it makes your phone 100% stock except for the S-ON/S-OFF radio security and bootloader locked/unlocked status. It won't change either of those, but you must have your bootloader locked (or relocked) to run the RUU if S-ON.
After running the RUU.exe you can flash a custom recovery and bootloader if you want. It should be the same as returning to stock and taking the OTA update, but flashing the RUU.exe is faster and easier.

Hboot 1.5 s-on and I'm running meanrom ICS 2.6 .
I did the HTC unlock. Then installed Su zip from this site. Then I installed 4ext and rebooted into recovery...flashed the meanrom zip (it flashed the kernel that comes w the Rom ) and that was it. Now I'm on sw 2.89 build w the 3.0.16 kernel and like I said still s off and hboot 1.5
If anyone knows any where to get a kernel to overclock please let me know

i actually decided to give it a try after making a nand backup ofc, and still had the same issues :s after re-flashing from my backup though it seems to boot fairly stable now. even between switching roms im not sure exactly why but could it have been an issue with anything that is permanent between any rom?
Hi, I have a completely stock evo 3d that was never updated etc. It's hboot 1.3.

Consider yourself lucky. You can use revolutuonary's s-off method to gain s-off.
Then to run cm10 you will need to update your radios.
I recommend getting the ICS stock sprint 2.89 ruu exe and update from your computer
After ruu is successful, flash recovery and flash both a cm10 ROM and your anthrax kernel.

Jsparta said this, but I want to stress: Make sure to use revolutionary method to get s-off FIRST before running the ruu.exe, otherwise it will update your hboot.
Steps:
1. Revolutionary for s-off.
2. Ruu.exe to update firmware, radios, etc (optional)
3. Flash custom hboot (1.4 or 1.04)
4. Flash custom recovery (recommend 4ext)
5. Flash custom Rom

Thanks for the clarification coal
Thanks for the replies. I will try this after work.
In the meantime, where can I get the 2.89 ruu? And, what are the benefits of updating that?

The ruu can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438
For you, it's really optional. I'd say not to run it unless you run into issues. So s-off using revolutionary (which installs 1.4 hboot for you I believe), flash custom recovery and then Rom. You should be set.
great thanks for the advice; ill post back
i got an HTC EVO 3D (CDMA/sprint)
its rooted
HBOOT 1.5
unlocked
currently has 4EXT recovery
running gingerbread (synergy)
every time i try to install an ICS rom it freezes on boot (some cases crashes as soon as you see the lockscreen)
i can however install gingerbread roms without problems
ive tried using ota's (what apperantly doesnt work if its rooted and has an recovery flashed)
cwm recovery (which i cant flash kernels)
twrp (can only install ingerbread roms, ICS roms still freeze on boot)
4EXT (first flash boot.img through fastboot than install rom, this works lil bit better than twrp becouse some ICS roms get to the unlock screen befoor they crash)
can anyone please help me? ):

You need to be S-off in order to flash an ICS ROM, unless you use 4EXT smart flash, which isn't guaranteed to work.

OK, some more information would help, like why can't you install them? Are you getting an error? Are you flashing the correct hboot?

ive got TuopunutBear's custom HBOOT 1.50.5050
and im in an bootloop (it crashes right after the HTC logo)
cant even flash GB roms anymore
You need to be using either the sprint 1.58 or the vm 1.57 hboots afaik
You just need to get back the bootloader first - take out the battery, put it back in, power on, hold volume down...

Frank....I think the issue is you probably installed the wrong rom version....This is very important that you install the correct rom for Evo 3d GSM or CDMA version or you would get Bootloop...I would suggest you install this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991150
and make sure you use 4EXT latest version, S-Off, Unlocked...
This rom is Viper3d Sense 4.1 and the most stable and fast ICS rom so far for GSM and CDMA......Since you have S-off and unlocked...you dont have to flash the boot.img separately....just copy the rom files to Sdcard then follow my instruction:
1)Do a full wipe (Wipe data/reset factory, Wipe cach+davik, Format partrition [without Sdcard])
2)Install from zip card,,,then choose the rom....
3)Reboot...it should work great if you do as i said.....
Furthermore....i would recommend you install Anthrax kernel....i dont know if the forum is allow me to send the link here.....??

I had this issue. If every Rom you flash bootloops, you may want to run the ruu.exe to reset your phone (you'll still be s-off). Hopefully this will get your phone booting. Then flash a custom hboot (I use 1.4 revolutionary) and then custom recovery (I use 4ext). You should be able to flash anything at that point (except a select few roms).
You can get the ruu.exe and other files from the thread I linked earlier.
GET HBOOT 1.49.0007 unlocked and s-off and 4ext as recovery then it should.work with most roms!

Wait, is he REALLY CDMA?
I'm confused right now.
It says he's from Europe, which usually uses GSM.
-shrugs-
Well, all I have to add is if you're flashing the kernel right away, don't set the overclock value to high, that's what causes bootloops/hangs.
Set your max cpu to stock (1188 MHz) for now. Then once it boots, overclock. I find that anything fast 15XX MHz causes bootloops with new versions of kernels.
I bought it from ebay becouse it was so much cheaper (I know europe is gsm only)
do I have to run an ruu or flash hboot
And which versions of those

it is CDMA from sprint
Go to this website www.htcruu.com and make sure you install the correct ruu to return to stock rom. At first you need to lock your phone by using fastboot flash lock oem....(google how to lock your phone ) then run the ruu file...
After that, unlock your phone again. So tour phone now would be Unlocked+S-off. At thia stage, you can install viper3d rom without problem...make sure you choose ruu for sprint with ics+radio 11.77
so.
i'm posting this on my fiancee's behalf.
anyways.
we got her phone unlocked via htcdev, rooted, 4ext installed, couldn't install any 4.2.2 rom's, realised it was due to the 1.58 hboot.
installed Negalite-BluRom, which worked, had instructions for downgrade to 1.4 hboot. hboot didn't downgrade.
fiancee was after dirty unicorn.
was advised that manually flashing the boot.img from the rom zip via fastboot should circumvent the hboot issue.
did not circumvent.
also tried pacman, didn't work either.
reflashed stock recovery via fastboot.
relocked (fastboot oem lock)
tried to restore stock via exe RUU (2.89) ( have also tried 1.13)
RUU fails with an hboot version error.
currently stuck on bootloop (but can access recovery)
are we trying the wrong RUU? ( sprint(cdma) version evo, using sprint RUU's )
if so, what one should we be using?
(update : no longer able to access recovery, no longer see bootscreen, phone goes straight to bootloader.)
if not.... HAAAALLLLP?

You can not use anything but ics sense roms on your hboot version. You need s-off to be able to downgrade. I suggest flashing back to negalite rom then manually flashing the kernel. After that your phone will be fine. If you want jelly bean (dirty unicorn) you need to read up on getting s-off.

thanks, 'tis working again now.
Managed to get my phone back working, also now running Dirty Unicorns. Downgraded my Hboot to 1.4. Wire trick.
Thanks for the help though.
So I have the my EVO is unlocked, but S-ON. I'm Ruu 3.16 and HBOOT 2.09
I'm running a buggy Cyanogenmod 10.3 alpha or something.
I've tried to Moonshine, I've tried flashing roms S-ON way with CMD prompt but touchscreen only works on the Cyanogenmod 10.3.
My next attempt was to try the Dirty Racun, but I don't want to go through the whole not having a phone situation. So I might try over the weekend.
I seen this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2089509
Fix
- Download JB OTA firmware from http://unlimited.io/jewel.htm
- Download fastboot executable (google)
- Put all files in one directory
- Reboot phone into fastboot mode
- Make sure that bootloader is Locked or Relocked. If bootloader is Unlocked, relock it with command fastboot oem lock
- Enter commands
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash zip jewel_jb_ota_firmware.zip
NOTE:
If you see FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately) text after running fastboot flash zip command you have to run fastboot flash zip command again.
After this flash stock RUU again.
Permanent fix
- S-OFF your phone. With S-OFF phone you can always flash decrypted, unsigned and/or older RUU and get phone working again easily.
I wanted to try it, but I'm not sure if it will work. I'm pretty computer savvy but custom roms and stuff is so new to me. So my question is how can I either go back to stock Android which I would prefer or go S-Off to dl stable ROMS. Can anyone help?
Thanks to all that reply.

You have a few choices: Stay rooted, S-on & understand the limitations of being S-on means that you have to flash the kernel separately from the ROM. Click on the top link in my sig to understand more. Or you can go for S-off, as many of us already have.
Your touchscreen issue is due to an updated touch panel driver that was included in the 3.16 update. You can only use Sense ROM's based on software version 3.16 & 3.17, or AOSP ROM's with the 3.4 kernel. You can downgrade the driver if you're S-off, which will allow you to run older ROM's.
You ultimately have to decide what you want to do with your phone. If you want to flash ROM's while S-on, that's not a problem, just understand that there is a little more work involved to get the ROM up & running. S-off makes life much easier. So I think I'd probably just Flash a ROM S-ON version like I already have done. I've tried the S-Off stuff before and failed with Moonshine, and Facepalm i think its called. Could you tell me a good ROM that will confirmed work with 3.16 S-ON. Also I have TWRP recovery if that makes a difference. Thanks for the fast reply by the way.
MeanBean is S-on friendly. Flash the ROM zip once and reboot. The phone will boot to the HTC splash screen and then reboot to recovery. Flash the ROM zip again and reboot. Don't forget to wipe properly in TWRP prior to flashing.
