Anyone else having their USB port catch when plugging it in to the base of the phone? If I plug it in at an angle it isn't a problem but if I go in straight it catch's almost every time. Makes me feel like it's going to be the first thing on the phone that breaks. When I look at the port it does seem to have a bit of a lip in there, it's what is causing the snag.
Any. tip on a quick fix that would make it slide more smooth?
Edit: Please refrain from any and all " that's what she said" posts. Giggity.
hah...yes, I have noticed this a couple of times..

Its either just the cable or a combination of the cable and the port on mine. Using a different usb cable basically got rid of the catch. I think the edge on the stock cable is to new.. hah.
Both the USB plug and the headphone port are extremely snug and tight.

Its better when its tight. If its loose now when it gets older it won't fit right
the best phone ever
I've noticed the same thing. I have a slew of cables around the house and at work and most of them seem to fit very tight. I find myself being extra careful with the OG than other devices.

I have mine since November and I charge it everyday and still no problems with the port. So, I guess it's good quality despite of what it might seem.
Well dudes,
this is now reality, my USB plug is broken in the phone!
After more than one year recharging the phone everyday... the soldered points are broken, not possible to resolder by my own, damn!
It's a shame, I loved this nice looked phone.
I had a 3125 for a year (replaced it with a 8925). At first, the USB port was REALLY tight. Eventually it losened up a bit, but was always snug. Just be careful with it and it will be fine.
Sil51, PM me if you're interested to sell your phone.
I've seen several 3125's on eBay with broken USB ports so it's not that uncommon.
Ciao,
mine broke on the first day of use, my girlfriend's and a friends StrTrk too, you have to be !DAMN CAREFUL!
They still charge & sync, but the headset looses connection...

Just found this at amazon and it allows you to charge your S2 with a case on it..

Hmm that looks interesting. I wonder how stable it is.
There are some video reviews for it on youtube. It looks pretty stable...
That looks nicer than having tto take my phone out of the case to work with the infuse dock

Ya...I bought that dock and it's *crap*. Received it today at work and used it for about 1/3 of the day. My desk is completely flat and with the *slightest* tip (or even the headphone cord moving while plugged in) the entire thing rolls backwards. I had to push it up against one of my monitors to keep it upright. On top of it, the entire thing feels *really* cheap (like it could break at any moment) and the phone isn't even kept stationary on top of it. It relies on the cable connection to keep it upright...which is doesn't. The phone moves around without a problem.
Overall, not worth the money. I'll be sending it back tomorrow.

Yikes! I just ordered one of these.
I'm finding that charging the phone in a case is a real problem unless I use the stock usb cord. I have a zillion other cables that work but not with a case. Not psyched about ordering more stock cables. I bet the official dock doesn't work with a case.
Any other solutions with extended connectors for use in a case??
I just got mine and it is not exactly what I expected but it does get the job done. I do not have any stability issues with it, I can actually tilt it backwards about 25 degrees with my phone on it before it falls backward, I do think it would benefit from some extra mass but with the phone on it I have not problem with it. I have the Ballistic case on mine and my problem was that the cable that came with this dock would not reach far enough into my device to make a connection because my case basically adds some depth to the port. I had two choices, either modify my case or the dock. What I ended up having to do was modify the cable that came with the dock with a longer micro usb port at the end so that it would make contact while on the base. Although I agree that this dock could be better, it does accomplish what I needed it to, just needed some help. I have a dock for every one of my devices, but this is the first one that lets me leave my case on.

For charging micro USB cables you could try to locate one of the ones for the nook color. Worked fine on my old captivate and works great on my new sgs2 even with the case on.

My gs2 fits in my infuse dock with my tpu case on like it was made for it!
sent from my gs2....War Eagle!
would it be possible to use the mhl adapter cable and turn this into a tv dock? i dont know if you could replace the larger usb cable that is included and swap it with the mhl one and have power to it and hdmi conencted at all times.
has anyone tried this who bought this item?
Anyone noticed that you have to plug the usb plug in an angle? feels like the port is not straight with the mold..if you look inside it, looks lowered then the frame.... unless its just my unit..

Same here. When I first tried plugging it in I thought the plug didnt fit for some reason. You have to point it down just the slightest bit. Doesn't seem like it will be a problem, just some getting used to.
just making sure it wasn't just me.... everyphone i've own is jsut a straigh shot
Ran into the same problem.. Freaked me out at first, that's for sure.
Hey guys, quick question or two:
Is it normal for the USB plug not to be plugged completely in? As in, I can see some metal still exposed when I plug in the USB cable. If I put the slightest pressure on the plug downwards (while phone is face-up), charging ceases.
Any effective (and safe) way of cleaning up the USB port? I wonder if cleaning it last time with a toothbrush might've bent the lip inside the port a bit, so that the connection is a bit more fussy...
Thanks! Rock on DNA fans. :good:
The usb cord isn't suppose to hang out. It should have a tight fit.
Thanks for the reply.
I wonder if missing the USB cover is making looks deceiving. There's about a 2mm gap seen between the body of my phone and the USB plug on the underside. Also, it's actually when I lift the plug a bit with the phone facing up that it stops charging. Though that detail doesn't matter I'm sure, poor contact is poor contact.

Nothing I'd worry about unless your phone stop charging all together.

I was thinking about getting a magnetic cable because I want to spare usb seal from wearing out. I noticed that some of the people are having problems with it and they managed to brick their phones by plugging the cable in wrong direction. I checked few of cables available in stores and I noticed that they are not marked in any way and there's no information about "how to plug it in". I'm wondering if there's some kind of rule how to plug them in. Is anyone using them instead of Sony dock?

I'm using it for some months now, and I can say that if you're using the original Sony cable, you're pretty safe.
If you look at your mobile carefully you'll see that the magnetic frame for the connector has two pins with different geometric forms. Those pins fit exactly on the holes on the cable, in only one direction. You'd have apply a big force to make a mistake.
Besides this, the cable "head" is not symmetrical: one side has a wire, another doesn't. So if you plug the connector with the wire aligned with the "foot" of your mobile three or four times, I think you'll find it too strange to plug it with the wire aligned to the "top" of your mobile.
The experience with the Sony cable is great, and I don't have enough good words to recommend it.
I haven't noticed that connector pins are not symmetrical, thanks for pointing that out. This will definitely help. I'm wondering how people managed to brick their phones by plugging it in wrong direction, if you need to apply some of the force to plug it that way.
I'm thinking about cable because dock costs a lot, considering that I'd use it only for charging anyway. What's the code for magnetic cable from Sony? I might try go grab these here.
I plugged it upside down once. It rebooted the phone. That was it. Nothing bad happened.
