Hello everyone, i have been searching the internet but have not been able to find whether the files stored on the 920 can be viewed from the computer like a memory card?
Yes and no. It supports standard MTP protocol but not all files on the phone show up. You can certainly copy files to the phone like memory card. But don't expect view OS files and other protected files on the phone.

Oh ok, cool, thank you. BTW i see you are writing this from a nokia lumia phone, do you know by any chance if it's possible to buy the phone outright without going on to a month -to- month plan? I have a rogers prepaid sim card if anything, but some store sellers siad they refuse to sell to me without going onto a plan.
Is there any way to transfer non-media files to Lumia`s storage?
Cheers~

My name is Eli Carmi and I’m writer in site www.pocketpcfeak.com in Israel (this site is in Hebrew).
One of our readers tries yours XDA developers Special Edition ROM, but now he can not connect to GSM provider in Israel.
Can you please return to me with answer or idea how we can help him?
I feel responsible for this situation because I wrote about this update for XDA ROM, and now (after he installed it) he can not use his XDA he get - "NO SIGNAL" (I not have the privilege to have XDA).
Hmmm, strange. Did he play with the band-switch tool in 'Programs'? If so, he should be able to put it back to the correct band (900/1800 dual)using the same tool.
Otherwise, I could not think of anything that could cause this. However: the bootloader page on this site describes how to make backups of the ROM from one device and take it to the next on an SD-card (of which the contents will be lost).
Good luck...

Ah... Now there's a crucial bit of info. And would you happen to know whether the provider you want to connect to is on 900 or 1800 MHz ?
What provider are we talking about?
Hi
Im allso a very happy XDA user from israel, and i installed the SE ROM with no problems at all.
as he suggested, you have to use an SD card with the bootloader to transfer the ROM from a working unit.
To do that in israel, go to HANDY. they are a very good store for Pocket stuff and they sell the new Qtek 1010.
ask them to use the unit from the display and tell them you want to READ the ROM to an SD card, just READ it.
and use the bootloader in their unit to load the ROM into your SD card.
(this will format it).
then you can leave the store and load it to your unit.
goodluck

No, one or the other. The provider you are trying to use is on 900 or on 1800, but not on both.

[Rant]
Is there actualy a diference inn Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T and so on and so that it is needed 5 sections (including this one) with a full sett of sub forums for each one?
The way I see it this only makes it harder for people to get answers for they questions as the all the SGS3 users dont nesecarely read the same section due to this. Thus making each thread read by far fewer ppl than what the potensal is.
[/Rant]
I am unsure if this is the correct subforum for my question so the mod's can feel free to move it if I have mis-posted it.
At work we got credit card size access and copy cards.
The SGSIII can read the cards fine with the NFC TagInfo app.
The way our cards work is that each card "is sending out" a static card number.
When I get the person that "makes" these cards to open up Notepad on her computer and put my card on a cardreader connected to her computer, a number is "writen" into notepad.
When she "makes" new cards she access our company-program and goes into personell, then new card, prints name and picture on a blank card and is then told to place the card onto the reader.
The number is then added to the personell info and the card is linked to the access of the doors and the persons print user.
If I could get my phone to "send" a static number I should be able to place my phone onto the reader and then my phone would be my access and print "card" so.. can this (the "sending" of a static number) be done?
I'll answer your rant. Are you aware that the international s3 is different from the American version? The international is a quad core, 1gb team phone, whereas the American is a dual core 2gb ram with lte phone. American carriers all have their own s3 version, Verizon for example has a locked bootloader. With these differences the roms and mods created only work for the specific type unless you want to risk bricking your device.
So yes it is very necessary to have different forums.

Omg. Ofc, why make it simple if one can make it complicated..
It amazes me that one would do something like this. One would beleve it would be alot to gain for the company by having just one of the model on the market, both from a production, service and support standpoint.
Anyways, cheers for the info, atleast then I learned that what I read in the other sections might not work, or be aplicable to my phone then.
Is there any way to get around the internet sharing restriction on AT&T? My data plan doesn't allow tethering but my Android phones with custom ROMs don't care. Is there any way around this? My old Samsung WP7 phones which were hackable could be forced to allow it using provxml and registry editing, but those aren't available for the 920.

no. you will have to flash to a non-att rom which is not necessary easy and possibly risk brick your phone.

Has anyone tried this yet then? Maybe the European ROM? I just got the phone yesterday so I have two weeks to return or exchange it if it gets bricked. I'm not going to move to a family share plan and pay $50/month more.
There is a thread here that someone tried to flash a different ROM and got bricked.
Where is this thread? I can't seem to find what the individual did to cause a brick. I would be very interested to know.
Just search it. It is here. He flashed a ROM not for his specific model of 920 (there are 3 different models for L920) and bricked the phone, If you like to flash custom ROMs and hacking phones, Windows Phone is the wrong choice. You should have stuck with Android phones.

I don't care about all that, all I want to do is tether with my phone. The rest is fine the way it is. I just don't want to go to a family share plan because it will be MUCH more expensive than what I'm currently paying.
I hope someone finds an exploit in WP8 that lets us have registry access then I can disable this stupid check. I don't see how this **** is legal.
Good luck with that. Check out the Lumia 900 forum. Those ppl are still waiting for this so called registry hack ever since that phone was released early 2012.

Yeah if this doesn't come soon then I may have to go back to my Android Galaxy Note as my primary phone. Windows Phone STILL doesn't let me tether or have a good google talk client. Two simple things.
Google doesn't like Mircosoft. As simple as that. So, if Google's service is important to you, you should stay with Android. There is no official Google Maps, Google Voice, Google Talk. On the plus side, there will be new Skype client (totally redesigned) coming soon to WP8.

tethering
Foxbat - didn't I see on another thread how you changed the keyboard to spanish (and then presumably back) and it downloaded an OTA and then tethering worked? or did i mis-understand?

How is answering your questions being "defensive" and worth calling him a fanboy over? I don't really think google has any interest in porting their applications until the userbase for WP8 grows larger (and AFAIK there's no official app to use google talk on my iPhone either), and for that reason it's better to roll with an android phone if you want to fully utilize google services and pain-free tethering for now.
And since I'm interested in a tethering solution as well, are people with unlocked/non-at&t branded Lumia 800s and 900s able to use internet sharing on at&t?

The tone he is answering in is defensive, so that's why I said that.
I'd also like to know if someone has tried to tether with a Rogers Lumia 920. It's also an RM-820 model so its ROM should work on the AT&T L920. I don't see any RM-820 ROMs on NaviFirm, though. Hopefully something gets uploaded before my 14 day return window is up in case it bricks. I'm going to keep my Galaxy Note but sometimes I like to just enable internet sharing very quickly so that I can do something on my laptop without the hassle of moving the SIM to my other phone. Especially now that it requires me to have that stupid paperclip thing to remove the SIM from the phone.

I don't think the chances of this happening within the next 2 weeks are very likely unfortunately, especially if there are no unlock codes for the 6 month exclusivity period. I'm holding off on a purchase entirely until something shows up, it's a feature I use too much and I'm not switching to a tiered/shared data plan.
I have the "internet sharing"
Mine's a 920 from AT&T... I can turn on internet sharing... I haven't done anything to the phone.....
OS:
8.0.9903.10
firmware: 1232.2109.1242.1001
need any more info?
I am on a shared data plan if that matters...

Shared data plan or 4GB or more tiered data plan qualifies for tethering because your data is capped. Most ppl want this feature through hacking is because they are on unlimited data plan and never will be qualified for tethering.

The 2GB and 3GB data plans don't allow tethering. It's total BS and I am not going to increase my bill because they only want me to use my 2GB plan on my phone.
Family share data plans qualify for tethering so it will turn on. They cost a **** ton more than the old plans if you aren't using tablets or laptops though.
The bottom line is AT&T wants you to pay certain amount monthly before they allow you to tether. The real truth is that AT&T's network is heavily congested, especially on HSPA side. They can't afford everyone jump in with free tethering. I certainly won't pay extra in order to be able tethering. On the other hand, even when I had my phone capable of tethering, I rarely ever use it. So, it is not that a big deal. If you using it heavily, AT&T will catch you sooner or later anyway.
My father's cell phone has suddenly stopped acknowledging that it has a SD card... he's been really upset about it because now he can't view his pictures anymore
I told him it sounds like there's something wrong with the phone and to go to the provider but he doesn't want to lose his stuff from his SD card soooo... is there a way for him to pull the information off the sim card onto the computer? I've heard of devices that you can put SD cards in to slip into a computer but I haven't found one anywhere for him, any advice on this?
You can get one at ANY RADIO SHACK OR COMPUSA, That's where I get mine from.

Yep. Many mobile broadband modem/usb sticks also have microSD card readers built in..that's what i use instead of a card reader. Also, you could just put the microSD card into your phone, connect it to a pc and access it that way
Hello Xda,
I just got my Nokia Lumia 800 and i am eveyr happy with it. There's only one big thing
i dont like. The problem is the creditcard option for the marketplace, because people
in the Netherlands have a diffrent card then the credit card so i am not able to use it.
I know there's another option to add the costs at your phone bill but thats the 2nd
problem. I have a prepaid card in it.
So my question is, is there a app/unlock like Cydia for the windows phone?
If so how to unlock my mobile? cant find it anywhere on here or on youtube.
Cya,
Zynex
As fas as I know, that are the only two options to buy apps from the Marketplace, not sure if you can use a prepaid creditcard but that's the only thing I can think about.
For unlocking your Lumia just start reading here:

Succes,
I'm Brazilian and MS refused my int'l credit card even when my account was still Brazilian (I moved it to USA when they made it available). Now that I moved my account I'm using PayPal to subscribe to Xbox Music Pass but it won't work for WP7 apps. LAME! --'
