[Q] Flashing recovery - HTC Droid DNA

When i try to flash twrp with fastboot i keep getting this error: "error: cannot load 'recovery.img': Unknown error". Does anybody know how to fix this? I also flashed the unsecured kernel.

Same problem here.

Make sure you have your recovery named recovery.img. And make sure that it is in the same folder as where you're running the commands from.

I am petty sure I tried all that. It was pretty late last night when I was trying it.
I will give it another go after church today.

I downloaded the recovery file again and it worked that time. I guess something happened when i downloaded it the first time

I am an idiot and didn't unzip it first.
Its my first day.

Not to be a jerk, but how do you have 243 posts and not understand the "search" function? There are like 5011 threads about this EXACT subject already. You can either download the 2.1 update file from HTC, or, if you have truly sent your phone back to completely stock, the OTA should show up in a while. You can also "Check for Updates" from the settings menu. That worked for me the last time I took one back to stock.
Settings > About Phone > Check for Updates. That should give you the 2.1 OTA if my understanding is correct that you are on 1.5 stock.
OK update:

Boot into fastboot by holding down the red and green buttons first and then do that command. Or not. I don't know.
Check the tools folder to make sure it has fastboot. I know the windows sdk has it but it may be a seperate dl for Mac

if your fastbooting stock recovery on your phone put it in the tools folder of adb
and then fastboot, it will send it to the phone and then flash, hope this helps.
What am I supposed be looking at I used these instructions and I got the error following them

Read this post and see if this will help, I believe I used this RUU with driver to unroot my phone.
If I remember correctly it also gives you the s-on bootloader

cannot flash amonra

hey all,
well i unlocked my bootloader okay.. i used the android super toolbox (.bat file) and choose to flash a recovery.img i choose the Amonra option but it installed CWM recovery instead...and now I cannot get Amonra to succussfully flash, so that I can root. Any help?!
Reboot boot loader and use fast boot to flash amon ra. I think its called recovery.img and its in the tools folder of that tool. Put it in the folder you have adb and fasboot and then while in boot loader do fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

This is kind of wrong... I'm assuming you've CD (changed directories) to the platform-tools in order to use fastboot. With that being the case, you'll want to specify the "path of the recovery" not the "name of the recovery" + .img of course.

You are placing the recovery image in the same folder correct ? but yes that would be the correct path. I don't know why you would change name as long as you are typing it in correctly.
I always change the name to make it easier to type. Example: cwm-touch.img or recovery.img. I never leave it all crazy like "clockwork-vigor-5.5.1-recovery.img"

I just did it though ubuntu.... god i love linux lol thanks all for ur input
i did notice this on the hboot screen
Open DSP v10.6.0.7611.00.0919
maybe that was there before, but i just noticed it. anything in the name of S-Off!
What is the error you are getting?
The phone is in fastboot, yes? It says "fastboot usb"?
Are you using a folder named "Root" or do you just have your stuff all loose in root? I would keep it in a folder, name it whatever you like, android or something. Put everything you need in there, including the recovery zip file.
Open cmd prompt.
cd c:\android
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
That should do it. I've attached a pic of what I have in my folder which is all you need in there.

[Q] Incredible 2: fastboot flash boot.img unknown error

Hello and thanks for viewing!
I unlocked bootloader with HTCdev method. Flashed Clockworkmod v 5.0.2 and then SuperSU. When I tried to flash CM 7.2 and reboot I got hung up on the white HTC screen. There were a few posts similar to my problem (ex: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048236) that all suggest flashing the ROMs boot.img. However when I try I get this:
Code:
C:\Android phone tools>fastboot flash boot boot.img
error: cannot load 'boot.img': Unknown error
Any help is much appreciated.
first make sure youre boot.img is for that rom another is try doing it on another pc make sure you have proper drivers installed

I thought I had double checked the boot.img before but it seems not well enough. I pulled the boot.img from the ROM package again and it worked no problem this time. Everything is up and running now. Thank you!

[Q] HELP!!! HTC Rooted Evo 4g LTE

Okay well i have a rooted Evo 4g LTE and i am sort of a newb with terms and what not however i have had this phone rooted for quite a while. Yesterday i think i really ****ed my phone up i was running cm 10 and got an update for cm10.1 in my notifications so i went and tried to do that without wiping anything... big mistake apparently cause it didnt work so i was going to factory reset and re install the rom now when i did that my computer said please format disk drive and it would not allow me to access my files. So at that point im stuck with a phone with no rom or access to my files. Today i got a SD card and decided to try to wipe it once before i put on the new rom on guess what it said factory reset failed it couldnt mount the SD card or something like that. So i am still stuck with a useless phone just to tell you i have twrp v2.3.3.0 dont no if that helps or not but thats what it is. Also it is weird that i am able to flash zips but i still cant turn the phone on when i do it only goes to the htc quietly brilliant screen. Any answers will be accepted please feel free to ask questions thank you.

I understand that i get it from inside the cm10.1 zip folder but where do i put the boot.img on the SD card? and then how do i fastboot flash it
Download kernel intended for your device. Inside the zip will be a boot.img file. Extract the boot.img to where ever you have adb and fastboot located (in sdk > platform tools). Once in that folder hold shift key then select "open command here". Type "fastboot devices" then enter and type "fastboot flash boot boot.img".

Thanks but one more problem there is no boot.img it is a boot disk image file
Inside every kernel will be a boot.img file. Make sure you download a kernel interned for your phone and that there is a boot.img in it Remember to be S-Off and in fastboot mode when flashing. You should see a quick progress bar on the phone letting you know if it flashed successfully

[Q] how to switch recoveries from RA to TWRP?!

How do I get my phone to stay permanently on TWRP? I've got it to flash and can run it fine. The problem is that everytime I reboot it goes back to RA revamped...It's annoying as ****. I've tried searching and can't find a solid answer.
s-on, rooted, know how to flash roms and everything through adb etc. why the hell won't it just stay on twrp?

Go download GooManager from make. Install open recovery inside of it. It will flash TWRP.
Or just download TWRP and put the recovery.img in your adb directory and execute "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" from fastboot and it's a done deal!

I did that. Worked fine but the next time I went to do anything in recovery it was RA again...does it every time I try to switch. Is there a specific order I need to do this in? Clean wipe/recovery/ROM/kernel?

No, not really any specific order at all... Sure you are using FLASH and not BOOT in the fastboot command?
If you are sure, then you must have a PHxxIMG.zip file on the SDcard of Amon Ra that is flashing itself on every boot or something, remove any PHxxIMG.zip files from the SD card and try again. Flashing a ROM does not replace the recovery image, so something else is doing it and I can't think of anything else that would cause that behavior.
