[Q] Devil's circle on andorid 2.2 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, xda members!
I have a really simple problem, (and yes, i have founded soultions in other post), but i came to realize that is more complicated then i thought.
So here is the basic problem:
- I have Zpad tablet, with android 2.2.
- I want to download files, photos, video, ANYTHING from the internet: My tablet says: You dont have an SD-card inserted.
(now, you have to know, virtually there is neither PLACE nor PORT for sd-card in my tablet)
- Ok, there is no SD-card, i will download it to the internal storage. My tablet says: You dont have permission to the internal storage.
- Ok, so i came here to Xda, and searched for fixing the lacking SD card. The solution says: I must create a virtual SD card...
- Ok, i followed the steps of creating a virtual SD card, on my tablet. My tablet says: You need a root acces to do this.
- Ok, i need a root access, so i came here to Xda, and searched for the solution of getting root on my Tablet.
- Xda says: i must use z4root app. to get root access to my tablet.
- Ok, i searched for z4root in market, i not found it in the market, so searched in google, and (gues what..) i found an alternative place to download z4root, to get root access to my tablet.
- Ok, i started the download of z4root. My tablet says: You dont have an SD-card inserted.
BOOOOOOMM!!!!!!! And i'm at the first step AGAIN. Now this is what I call "the devil's circle"
If you have any idea, i would appreciate it!
A simple android tablet user, from Hungary.
ciao!

1. download the z4root apk to your pc
2. enable usb debugging on your tablet
3. install the z4root app to your tablet through ADB (or you can use qtADB or DroidExplorer too)

Thanks for your fast answer !
But the problem still going on!
I tryed to install z4root with ADB, but unfortunately ADB can't see my tablet.
I've searched in several threads for solution. The solution says: i must use the proper driver for my tablet. I have installed the correct driver, but ADB still not seeing my tablet. where is the problem?
Another thing to be mentioned: in my tablet options i'm not able to turn off the DEBUG mode, de turn off switch is grey. WHY??

[Q] How Can I install games and apps on x10a using my pc, have no wifie access

I've no wifi or internet access on my phone, wonder how could install using my pc. as using media go and pc companion couldn't add themes, games and apps to my x10a. even couldn't download from sites which they require using android device i've too..
Download the apk to your computer and transfer to your phone and install.
Go to settings, application, tap selection to install from unknown sources ( My fone is in dutch, forgive if the option ain't the same as i written.)
Than open with Astro your wanted app/game. Install with app manager.
Voila, thats all.
If you ain't have Astro.
Search in the forum for ADB, its just a command that can push app trough cable to you phone and install it immediately. If you even can't accomplish that and i suggest you even didn't root your fone now its time to do. I thought it will also install an file explorer *Not sure*.
And if you even don't wanna root your phone, my last suggestion is to prepare your computer/notebook with a Ad-Hoc wifi connection. You will just have to share your internet connection between your Lan and Wifi, set-up an Ad-Hoc network with password. Connect your phone on it, and you have network. Only thing to do in market is download any File-explorer programm. And you can install any downloaded apk that you have put it on your storage card.
GOOD LUCK!
Thanks guys for your support, while searching and searching for way to install apps and games to Android, my x10a I've found a pc software no commands needed to type in console. here it is androidcommander.com I've downloaded and it works for me.

[Q&A] Unknown Sources FIX Offered

Hello,
as i read the posts and threads AT&T phones have locked unknown sources. So we cant install unknown sourced apps. (as applanet etc.) and updated fw's (1.4.257.19) cant root yet.
so i found something. i mounted my atrix and took downloaded files from applanet/downloads folder.
then i copied to sdk/tools folder.
i re-connected atrix with PHONE PORTAL mode and enabled usb-debugging.
i run command : adb install ndrive.apk
and Successfull !
i controlled my device application runs perfect.
Step by step :
1-Download from applanet (or internet. if you donwload from internet pass through to step 6 )
2- Connect Atrix in Mass Storage mode.
3- Copy downloaded files from SDCARD to SDK/TOOLS (ex : applanet : applanet/downloads)
4- Rename file (app.apk to NAME_OF_APP.apk)
5- Disconnect Atrix
6- Connect Atrix as Phone portal mode with debugging enabled
7- Open command prompt go to sdk/tools folder (EX: cd C:\sdk\tools\)
8- make sure phone connected (adb devices)
9- Run Command => adb install NAME_OF_APP.apk
10- Success !
you can always install apps through adb install, this is widely known, please search before posting. Also there are methods to enable unknown sources so you don't need to install them through adb. Again, search
Aye download any Root utility and it will almost always allow sideloading, as well. aRoot and the oldschool root utility (Super whatever) both do it.
and you can root the update if you prepare first, check the dev section.

[Q] Installing .apk from PC with USB

Dear friends a strange problem arose with me regarding installing .apk
I had just update my dell streak with update.pkg from dell. But the problem is that my net is disabled somehow and I don't have wireless connection too. Though I have backup of all application but I need to install file manager first. But now as I can't open market to download either through net or wireless. Is there any way to install apk from computer through usb. Plz I need it badly as I can't do nothing without installing file manager.
Yes, you can, but you will need the Android SDK installed on the PC.
Full install instructions, and download links are at http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html
Once you have it installed, it is as simple as typing adb install packagefile.apk into your PC, to install a package onto your phone.
ok...downloaded both SDK and JDk.....installed JDK but when installing SDK its again showing same page to install JDk....i'm using windows 7 starter pack on my ASUS Eee PC netbook
google, and you will find this is an error, the way to fix this is click the back button, then it will reset and find it!
Well what I found is CONNECTIFY a program which enable mobile to use laptop net. Very useful software.
www. Connectify. me
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
I think even the stock ROM comes with Quick office or something like that that will allow accessing the SD card if you were to put the apk on the sd card and install it from there. I may be wrong though, it's been forever since I used a stock ROM
Well thanks dear it worked tht way.....now installed SDK

[Q] Sideload Script says no device found?

My Nook Tablet just updated to the dreaded 1.4.1 version which makes sideloading pretty difficult.
I was reading this article which has steps to sideload apps onto the 1.4.1 NT without rooting it, and pointed to downloading this script on the XDA forums which will push the apk onto the plugged in tablet, as long as the apk is in the same folder as the Sideload script files.
So, steps 1 to 5 weren't a real problem but its Step 6 that I'm stuck on.
There is a Sideload BAT script which seemed to run (its disclaimer is that it will only run if it finds an Android device -- which is a clear indication that it could find and recognize that my Nook Tablet is plugged in). It even says C:\Sideload>adb wait-for-device. However, when I try to tell it to install the apk via Command Prompt (I type in: adb install Amazon_Appstore-release.apk ), it returns "error: device not found" .
Just for good measure, I also type in C:\Sideload\adb devices and it returns: List of devices attached .
I'd greatly appreciate if somebody could help me with this--I really have it up a wall and would just like to put this problem to bed. Thanks!
i'm having the same exact problems here! are there any specific drivers to install?
Yep, I was still fairly a noob at this when I first posted but have learned a lot ever since. Here's what you want to do:
(btw, I factory resetted to 1.4.0--you may need to as well):
When it says "no device found", it's corresponding to this command line : adb install whatevernameofapp.apk . I interpreted "no device found" to mean that it does not know what "adb" means in the command.
For it to recognize all "adb" related commands, you have to have the USB drivers installed. Look for tgps_launcher.apk on this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354487. That will set you up with having you Nook to accept third party applications + having it on UBS debug mode.
Then, install the drivers (I saw this YouTube walkthrough because it is NOT intuitive and you want to be sure you're doing it right , it's not the way you would traditionally update drivers for a mouse or keyboard; here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtGveN7jbzs )
After that, I followed the instructions on this article, made a folder in C:, called it sideload, and also pasted an .apk. Now, when I do the Commant Prompt, it says this: http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/2914/cmdnookadb.jpg . While, the transfer was successful, I haven't been able to see the app on my tablet. Does anyone know where I can find this (data/local wasn't found when I connected the tablet to my PC either, and it wasn't on my SD or so). Is it because I'm still on 1.4.0?
Let me know if you get it working all the way!
I followed all those directions exactly. I had received the No Device Found error. I followed the Youtube directions to add drivers and it seems like I did it correctly. I am seeing the android device on the device manager.
I tried running the script again and got the same error! I'm now stuck!
I had the amazon marketplace already installed and was using it successfully until my nook updated to 1.4.2. I thought I had ES File Explorer downloaded but for some reason I can't find it! So I now I am trying to sideload ES File Explorer this way but it wont work!
0x2080
^ put that in %userprofile%\.android\adb_usb.ini
Can you give me more specific instructions on how to do that?
FYI - I have ver 1.4.2 and I am NOT rooted. I have already enabled unknown sources and downloaded the amazon market. I was installing 3rd party apps fine before the update.
[HOW-TO] Use ADB tool | Android Debug Bridge
You need to revert to stock 1.4.0, there are easier and faster ways to do that now > check development section. Basically you need to have CWM booting from sdcard then flash stock ROMS posted >> Albert and I have posted 1.4.0 stock ROMs.

[Q] Nook Tablet rooting problems

I recently bought a Nook Tablet running software version 1.4.0, and tried to root it. I was using Indirect's method, and ran into a problem. When I downloaded the USB debugging app on the nook, I was unable to run it. I tried to install the drivers and to then run the app, but that didn't help, either. I don't know if the driver installer was done incorrectly, or if there is a problem with the USB debugging app, but I haven't been able to successfully root.
Is it that you can't install the USB debugging app? Not sure what you mean by "unable to run." Don't worry, we'll get you rooted in no time!
I downloaded the USB debugging app using the built in web browser on the Nook, and when I try to run the file, I get an error that says "Unable to install: This application was not able to install onto your device. Please "Archive" and then "Unarchive" the application to try again." The downloaded file does not appear in the downloads section of the file browser, and I'm not quite sure what it means by Archive.
Haven't had this issue. My biggest issue rooting on Ubuntu Oneiric was getting ADB to read my NT.

Hmm, check again to make sure you're still on software version number 1.4.0. If you are and can't get the TGPS Launcher app to install, you could use others methods to root. You'd have to use an SD card. Here are two methods:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488035
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439630
Solved.
I used the first SD Card method to successfully root cuttincow's tablet. It now works as a normal tablet, not locked down and restricted. I expect to see many more posts from cuttincows as he explores the depths of android and tries to install new ROMs. May we welcome him to the community with open arms!
