why have i not seen this in any of the how to video? or screenshots?
edit: i just watched the video carefully... it only says tampered after you flash custom recovery... wish someone else would have gave a notice about this
Tampered
Yeah, I noticed this on mine after rooting. I watched the video from DroidModderX and his did this as well. He does not mention it in the video instructions however I paused and looked closely and could see it on his phone as soon as he rooted. Seems to be perfectly normal, I guess HTC wants us "hackers" to have scarlet letter so to speak... :cyclops:
The tampered message is common knowledge for any newer HTC device. Once we obtain S-OFF we will be able to edit them back to normal. I went through this with my ReZound as well.

Yeah with my EVO LTE there was someone who came up with a bootloader editor that let you customize the bootloader to make it look like a stock bootloader screen so people couldnt tell it was unlocked lol
Similar thing happened previously with Samsung phones where it counted the number of times something was flashed through the bootloader to keep track of the same thing, but someone quickly figured out how to reset it. Let's just hope they don't start using those damn e-fuses like the Motorola phones do.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G with Beats Audio using xda-developers app
We need s-off to edit those things ...but for warranty purposes a ruu would remove the tampered but it would say relocked that's why s- off would be convenient to be able to have those say anything we want

Holy thread revival Batman!
Now you just need to install a custom ROM. Look in the development sections to find one that fits your needs. Most have fairly well written instructions, and there are plenty of guides there too. Just make sure you read plenty before you flash. Also, make sure you have backed up anything important before you flash, most ROMs require a full wipe. If you have more questions, you're best off making a new thread in the Q&A section so we can help you better.
Thank you so much for your reply but I am s-on ...can I still install a custom rom

You asking for verification of phones with S-Off? LOL. If you spent 2 minutes looking in the Development section you would find a thread labelled everything S-OFF and in there are posted a bunch of different Hboots INCLUDING an Eng S-Off one. Next time, use the search button.
What cannot be done at the moment is flashing of S-Off Hboots to S-On devices. i.e. no S-Off for S-On devices.

Actually I think that post #11 was trolling. I hope to be proven wrong. If the member can't provide evidence of having s-off then there will be no deal being made. I will make sure of that. If the deal is made and it turns out that the phone does not have s-off the member will be banned without question. If the member claims to have found a way to obtain s-off and is intentionally misleading members to give them false hope... he/she will be banned without question. No playing around here with this.
My phone is S-MAYBE..............................seriously people how hard is it to read before you post.
just checked, mine is S-On, sorry I couldnt help
Just curious as to why you need an S-OFF model. I have one of each, (TELUS models, both with unlocked bootloaders) and the S-ON is not restricted from anything that has been released...AFAIK the main reason for S-OFF is to flash kernels from recovery, but we can do it with fastboot so it really doesn't make that much difference.
Dredd
I could also mess with System files while phone is on which I can't do with S-OFF. I know I can do in recovery, but for someone who's been around since the G1 TelNet days, hook up to comp and ADB system files are something I miss so much.

Download & put rom on sdcard
Boot into recovery mode (4ext prefered so the kernel flashes)
Flash the Super Wipe script
Flash this rom
Reboot...

Coming from a Samsung Vibrant which is easy to root and flash roms.
Why are the new HTC devices so difficult, I mean I've been on my samsung for two and half years so now that I finally came back to HTC after 4 years everything seems like a pain in the butt to do. I have to unlock the bootloader in order to root, then I have to unlock s-off which I heard stands for security on/off yet I still don't understand it and to do that I need to do some wire trick that is still really not explained that well, and all this so I can flash a custom rom.
I'm curious though as to how this s-off method was recently released how have people used and created other roms if this was the first s off method?
I apologize if I come off sounding like a noob, but HTC is different from what I remembered on the G1 and myTouch 3G.

DOESNT WORK. bootlooping HTC logo.
Ok here are the steps I have taken since acquiring my HTC Rezound. I checked and noticed that it was running ICS when I first received it. I then used AIO kit to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP recovery, and gain root access. I was a bit impatient and decided to skip on reading around on how to use adb( I still lack knowledge on using) to gain S-off. I then began flashing roms. While I have not experienced any extraordinary issues since doing this, I have noticed that life is a lot easier being S-off. I would like to know if I can go S-off from these aforementioned steps, or do I need to revert everything I have done up to this point and start over or what. By the way, I was an idiot and accidentally deleted my stock rom off the sd card so I really have nothing to restore other than the roms I have been running which have all been ics roms. I've read a lot of different information on this and am not sure what to do. Any help in getting me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Don't think so the RUU will tell you that you have the wrong version and can't go back. Its forward only. The other issue is we don't have DEV Unlock from HTC. S-Off wouldn't be a big deal if we had official unlock from HTC that's were we are getting screwed. Otherwise I would flash to stock, update, use HTC Unlock then pull the ROM, but we can't do that here.
The devs will work magic soon... no rush

I wish I was S-OFF but I'm still S-On which for this stuff can be a setback. Like I've been saying its HTCs Dev Unlock that is screwing us/me. Damn you Verizon and HTC.
We should still be able to flash the radios but we need someone to make us a update.zip. correct me if I'm wrong but they should be signed by HTC and if prepared correctly should be flashable.
Edit:
I'm not sure that our hboot looks for an update.zip.

I am unlocked/rooted S-ON. Is there a method to go from 1.15 to 2.06 without having to relock/unlock? Or am I stuck relocking accepting the updates, then re-unlocking? Thanks!

Hey all, forgive me if this is posted somewhere, but I've looked and not been able to find it. I am on VZW 1.15, I have never accepted any of the OTA updates, but I'm ready to do so now. You don't need to relock. If you're on a stock Rom you can go here. Install the stock recovery and take the OTA. Then just put your custom recovery back.

Well... That's what I thought I read the first time, but, when I accept the OTA, it downloads, then reboots, and starts the install, but only gets about a 1/4 of the way through it, the it reboots and says it failed to update.. error "410" I believe. Any ideas?

I think you also need a stock Rom and kernel.

I've never seen that error. Maybe you deleted something that you shouldn't have?
Yeah, I'm thinking I must have. I'm pretty sure I used a debloat tool from here, but I can't remember which one! lol. I guess I'm going to have to flash a Stock Rom, then proceed...

Thanks, I'll give that one a shot!
No luck... flashed the stock rom, flashed stock recovery, accepted the update.. it gets to about 30%, then stops and gives me the red triangle with !. While I was messing around, I forgot to flash the stock recovery and still had CWM installed, and accidentally tried to do the update. I noticed that on CWM it got hung up on the CID part of the update. I'm S-OFF, any clue if that has anything to do with it?

Not sure you might have to ruu for this to work.
Why do you want to do this?? Flash the radio and kernel then run the Stock rooted rom from the last update.

That makes far too much sense! Lol. Thank you! What's the newest radio and kernel?

Radio is HERE
Kernel should be in the newest stock rooted rom package.
