Stuck on boot logo/android is upgrading screen Suddenly!!!! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys..
Firstly i would like to let all of you know..i havent modded or installed any rom/kernel for like 3-4 months..
But today..i installed some application..and i dunno after sometime..my phone restarted and got stuck on boot logo..i tried restarting it few times but the same thing..So i went into the recovery mode and wiped cache and dalvik cache and then restarted..now the phone did go past the boot logo but then a screen came saying optimizing applications and the now the phone is stuck on "android is upgrading..start applications" screen..Can anyone tell me whats wrong?
I dont wanna restore a backup as my backup is pretty old..and i didnt bother backing up as i wasnt fiddling with my phone in anyway..
So i just wanna know what can i do to restore my phone so it works again..? I dont wanna full format and resintall some rom and kernel,,
I am currently on neatrom siyah 3.3 kernel..
So can i just directly try installing the rom again from the recovery mode?
suggestions would be appreciated
thanks
P.S. Also the phone vibrates for a very tiny moment while it is at "android is upgrading" screen and then nothing happens..
Help me out please i am getting a bit worried lol..

Did u also try to reflash Rom once?
This wouldn't infact ur Rom but replace the System files...
Maybe this helps
Much success

Yh m8 i did try flashing both rom and kernel separately but nothing worked..
well i got back my phone working from a previous nadroid backup.. but yh lost a good amount of data and few contacts and sms
Now can anyone please tell me what does these options exactly do with reference to what i wanna do:
1. I created a nandroid backup just before going back to my previous 3 month old backup. Can i get back all my apps by choosing: advanced restore-> restore data from CWM recovery? If yes, how will they affect the currently installed apps on my phone and if there is a duplicate or anything?
2. Can i get back my contacts/sms?
3. What does the restore system option from advanced restore exactly mean? It only restores my rom or also sytem files and system data?
thnx again..

[Q] reboot prob

Ive been having a reboot problem over the last couple of rom flashes, basically, i do a fill wipe>cash>dalvic>factory, and in most cases i do a sys. wipe as well.. clean as a whistle!!.RIGHT?. I flash rom, and it installs just fine , and boots up like a champ.... i wait a for stuff to load and settle .. then I do a titanium restore ....and then i reboot after titantim has done its thing. heres where it gets weird... it wont reboot past the boot animation..after the titanium restore, been checking other threads.. and looked at om4s troubleshooting thread , and the problem is similar to the first type of bootloop he describes, in his thread ...but im coming from a full wipe .. also tried wiping /reflashing ... same deal.. could it be a kernel issue? im running cm 10 with the latest komodo kernel.. anyone have any thoughts ?? probably i simple fix that im just missing something!!!.... edit .. now i cant flash any thing .. tru twrp .. i get " E:unable to open zip file"

Have you considered that it might be your titanium backup file is corrupted?... Sounds like its working fine until you restore your data. It may also be a corrupted sd card.
What are you restoring through titanium?

try updating your twrp to the latest version
I'm restoring all apps and sys data.. and im on the latest twrp...may be i should try just missing apps and all sys data only?.. doesnt titanium overwrite existing apps /data?
Restoring system data has been known to cause issues, always has. Try just restoring users apps/data.
i'll give that a whack.. thanks all
im STILL dogged by this problem .. i just cant figure it out .. anytime i reboot after a titanium restore it wont go past the bootloader screen .. couldnt be a corrupted titanium . file.. cuz i do a fresh install of titanium from play store after every thing i flash !!!... anyone have any ideas here?? similar prob?.. arrg!!

Softbrick after flashing theme - how to restore without losing sd content

Hi,
so I tried to install a new theme and during the install the phone froze. I tried to access the recovery again, but I can't, the phone stucks at galaxy s3 screen. However I can access download mode.
My question is, what do I have to do to keep my SD Card content (like pictures)? Which firmware should I flash? I was on Wanam Lite Rom.
Thanks for Help
Matt

Flashing a theme will not mess your recovery partition so it cannot happen that you have lost recovery..so try again..
Once you are able to boot into recovery flash the ROM which you were using without a wipe first...you will not loose anything..if you face problems then wipe data/factory reset in CWM ..even then you will not loose the data on your internal SD..

I know that it seems strange but I'm not able to access it. I tried to install
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844756
on my wanamlite since someone wrote it would work (I did a nandroid backup first). However the installation froze and I had to pull the battery. Since then it won't boot or boot into recovery (the syiah kernel flash screen doesn't show up either).

I kinda messed up :P

Hello guys!
Today i installed ClockworkMod Touch recovery and installed SuperNexus 2.0 Build 4 Rom , the whole process took less than 5 minutes. But before i installed SuperNexus i did a "Nandroid?" backup which went fine and took lots of space xD Anyway i proceeded with SuperNexus and it installed fine and played with the rom for a few hours ... i decided to restore the backup so my whatsapp and all that stuff comes back .. i didnt know that it'll restore system too! Ofcourse the phone went on a bootloop so i went to CWM and wiped data/factory reset and the phone booted with Stock 4.1.2 and the phone is kinda slow at the first boot ... now i dont really know what to do :/ The nandroid backup is large and im afraid the SuperNexus rom wont fit and it'll cause errors n all xD Im really stuck at this point , should i repeat installing SuperNexus?
EDIT: I cleared 4.6GB of space , what to do next?
the backup restore shouldn't have caused a bootloop, that's weird.
it restores everything - system and data. so if you want to keep the data when switching ROMs, use Titanium backup or something if the sort. try restoring again. if it fails, try a custom restore of /data

Im not sure if its a bootloop , it keeps restarting boot animation after 1min , i fixed it anyway by wipe data/factory reset option thru recovery and its on stock now booting fine , Shall i flash SuperNexus again normally ? Other than wipe data/factory reset is there anything else to do ?
I mean, if you don't care about your data being lost - then sure
Yeah no probs , contacts on sim and pic's and movies on sd card , Ill just have to redownload my games and all Ill charge my phone then proceed , thanks One more question. Since I installed SuperNexus before does it have system files that I need to delete? Or wipe data/factory reset will cover it?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
no, a data wipe will do.
Success Thanks for the help xD I learned a lesson Ill use titanium backup from now on

[Q] Flashing ROM, Stuck in Bootloop, please help!

Hi guys,
I'm really hoping someone can help me out here.. I'm rooted and was running the stock rom.. decided tonight that I would download and flash the new Jellybomb ROM for my GN3. After doing a titanium backup and downloading the rom file.. I opened my CWM, made a nandroid backup, wiped cache, dalvic and did a facory/data reset.. Just after doing that, I went to flash the rom but for some reason, I didn't see it on my extSD card.. So I restored my backup and went to go hunt through the phone to find it's location..
Well, after restoring and rebooting, It's stuck in a bootloop.. I pulled the battery and tried re-restoring.. same problem.. then I just cleared everything and factory/data wipe... still in a bootloop... going nuts!
I really hope someone can help me out, here!
Thanks in advance!

for some reason our phone doesnt like cwm recovery i bootlooped my phone the very first day i got it...twrp is highly recommended. the way to fix your phone is to odin it back to stock before your phone boots...put your phone into STOCK recovery and wipe it...wipe everything which will get rid of the custom tag...put the phone in download mode and odin it back to stock a second time. reroot your phone and then odin in twrp..flash the new rom you want in twrp the phone should make it to the yellow screen with a semiblinking blue light and then it should boot within 5min

Thank you very much!!! I actually, before getting this post, went to Odin and unrooted, then rerooted still using CWM and got lucky cuz this time it actually let me run the new ROM. Thanks for the info though!! If I have any more problems, I'll at least know a better way to go about fixing it!

[Q] MISTERY: Did an nandroid backup and device won't start

Hello everyone, I hope you can help me on this one since I'm already panicking.:
I have a Galaxy S3 international version, with Android 4.2.2, rooted, Philz recovery.
Wanted to flash a custom ROM, backed up EFS folder and data. Only thing missing was doing a NANDROID backup. Did the NANDROID backup to sdcard and rebooted....and now device won't start; it's stuck on the "SAMSUNG" logo. , WHAT THE HELL DID I WRONG?
I haven't formated anything or handled any system folders or anything. Just went , like in previous android phones, to recovery, made backup and rebooted. Any ideas? many thanks!

If its stuck in a bootloop factory reset and wipe cache in recovery. If that does not work install your backup and lastly if that doesn't work flash stock with odin.
Always remember the first thing to try whenever you are stuck in a bootloop is to factory reset wipe cache in recovery.

I did a full wipe and cache wipe and everything back to normal. What puzzles me is what was it that put the phone in a bootloop?

Good question but unfortunately I've not got a definite answer for you. Some times it is files leftover from a flash but no matter how experienced you are at flashing, bootloops are just one of those things you have to get used to.[emoji1]
