[Q] Jellybam and Google Talk - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
I'm pretty new to rooting & flashing but I decided to stick Jellybam on my Samsung Galaxy S II the other day. (My previous experience was to flash Samsung's stock ICS a couple months ago)
Anyway, I started by doing a complete factory reset and flashing version 20121120. All was good.
I then upgraded to 20121123. All good so far - all my apps were carried forward from the factory reset to the new version.
yesterday I flashed 20121125. Pretty much no problems with the update with the exception of the Google Talk app - It did not carry forward. This is not totally unexpected since gapps were removed from the ROM according to the release notes.
The problem is, I can't find Google Talk anywhere on the Play store - I've searched using all the relevant key words I can think of, but no sign of it. Does anyone have a link for it? Or can I get Play to play nice? It's an app that I do use quite alot so I would like to get it up and running again.
I have seen some APKs linked on some older threads, but, to be honest I'd rather go thru the Play store since it will then keep the pap up to date etc.
Any help would be appreciated!
cheers,
Paul.

Ok,
well I found, in the jellybean thread, a suggestion to unpack the talk apk from the previous and copy it to system/app.
Unfortunately, I can't post directly in that thread but maybe someone here can help?
I have taken the older ROM and extracted the apk. Is the instruction to put that into the new ROM and reflash it? I have tried simply installing the APK (via cwm ) but it doesnt work. Just says "App not installed" after I agreee to the permissions....
any ideas?

[Q] HELP! GAPPS (market) not working after flash

Hi,
I am new to the forum and new to rooting/flashing mods as well. I have the AT&T version of the Galaxy S2. I just recently rooted and flashed the most recent CM9 nightly on my phone and everything worked great except a, what i hope to be, minor issue. When I first rebooted my phone after the flash, everything looked great but It was apparent my GAPPS zip had not installed correctly as I couldn't see my e-mail or the Play Store (obviously I'm needing to recover things). I re-flashed GAPPS, rebooted, and I saw the Play Store and my e-mail. My problem is when I opened the Play Store, it got stuck on the sign-in. It eventually signed in, I guess (my account has a check by it if I select "manage accounts"). SO, i'm signed in but nothing is loading. I cannot do any searches or retrieve apps. Baiscally, I can't use the Play Store. My phone works fine, otherwise, and it seems the rom flashed cleanly. I followed every instruction very carefully. Please help! I need to retrieve my backup from Titanium and use the market. Don't even have my wi-fi at this point! Thank you in advance if someone can respond quickly.
UPDATE: I think i have 4.0.3 gapps instead of 4.0.4 which is obviously my CM version..this is the entire problem? I just re-flashed *without* wiping data and I'm still getting the same problem. I have the check mark but it's not loading. Cannot turn on wifi. Now Market is not updating to Play Store. What is my problem? Sorry for so much detail.

IF YOU only want the google play (market) you can use this
full wipe and reflash with latest gapps.
latest gapps are always at goo-inside.me/gapps
Could also try clearing the app data in manage apps.
THANK YOU!

[Q] "Download Unsuccessful"

I remember having this issue since ICS and on multiple devices running different ROMs.
What gives? I know the solution is to clear out the Download history and it still works. Just annoying that I have to do that... Does Google know about this issue??
You can also try using a browser like Opera, that helps me. But yeah it really is annoying it also happens to me both on GB and ICS

To be able to download certain files, you must first have an application that can run the file. If you don't have the ablity to run the file it will refuse to download, giving the download unsuccessful message.
What you say may be true. But the files I download are definitely openable. Yet they still don't download successfully until after multiple attempts or clearing the cache.

Hello everyone -- First post
I don't know if this will help, but i tell you what i experienced yesterday. I have both a HP Touchpad 32GB Wifi only and a Samsung Fascinate. I have the problem with both of them for months now. I can install anything i want from Google Play, but can not down load any other files, both from emails and websites. I can write to it with Window XP Pro machine.
Two days ago i was messing around with my Touchpad dual boot WebOS/CM7 and wreck it. Wouldn't reboot, couldn't run WebOS doctor on it or any thing. I thought it was bricked. Then i ran across a forum how to delete the volume manually and recreate them. Then install back to factory original.
Last night i got it back to 3.0.5 and installed CM9 tenderloin nightly 20121028 dual boot. First think i did was go to a website to down load a PDF file to see if this fix my download problem. File downloaded, i tried opening it, said no file associate. Jump into Google Market , installed reader, open the file, no problem. I started checking with ROM Manager for any nightly updates. There was one and i started downloading it, and moved on to installing Titanium Backup plus Root. Few minutes after dubbing around, checking CM9.I noticed that it had a download error. SO i jumped on to another website to download another file. Immediately <Untitled> Download Unsuccessful. Here we go again. Switch over to Google Market, Titanium Backup plus Root finished installing.
I remove it and root. Check to see if it fixed the problem. NOPE! still no downloading. This morning at work during break, I wiped CM9 out with ACMEUnistaller, and started over. Same install as before. No problem downloading any files so far, but i have not reinstalled Titanium Backup plus Root. I will install it tonight just to be sure and redo my Samsung Fascinate to see if i can reproduces the same results there with CM10.
Can someone else that is having the same problem confirm with their system and see if they get same result?
Not so
Sorry guys, I just reinstalled Titanium Backup plus and can not repeat it. I'll keep checking with everything that I install and any settings I change
You may have better luck with the Touchpad forum.

Its not just my touchpad that is having the same issue. My Samsung fascinate have the issue and it has CM10 nightly. I've search many forum site for this problem. There are many other that are having the issue with all different devices and ROM's. I
I'm currently trying to repeat on touchpad because if i mess this unit up it won't be a big deal for me. I have got it down 25 minutes or ever less removing the CM and reload it. Not so fast for me on the Samsung. So far unsuccessful repeating it. Going to try repairing Fascinate and on it.
You think this should be moved to another thread? If so please let me know.
Thanks in advance
FYI, if you change the name of the original Download folder to, say Download_old, then try the download again, it will create a new folder and download to that one. weirdly, the folder permissions are exactly the same for both folders after (rwxrwxr-x)

[Q] Newbie Questions - recovery mode/google now on ics

Hi guys,
First of all, thanks for the great community, good to be here
I've just got my mediapad at a bargain as 2nd hand and installed 'CleanICE 1.5 Rom (ICS 4.0.3). It has a really great response and installed with such little effort on my part so cheers h25p. I considered a couple other ROMS too, particularly the one posted by 'after_silence', http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856571 CM10 but it is said to have issues with HDMI out (which is an important feature to me) so I haven't tried that one yet.
What I'm trying to do now is boot in to Recovery (so I can install GoogleNow as per this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843457) but can't seem to figure it out for this ROM.
Has anyone had success doing so with ICS? Or better yet, anyone with experience of the 'glitchy HDMI' on the CM10 Jellybean ROM (is it really bad or is it workable most of the time)?
Cheers guys!
[edit]
used auto recovery installer and got CWM on the device now (after_silence provides link to it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856571)
i thought installing that would wipe everything else so to other newbies, don't be concerned. it's just installing the recovery manager and nothing else is affected
after that i went and installed the 'GoogleNowforICSInstaller_v1.1.zip' (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843457) from sd card in CWM but sadly when it boots up there is still no google now. any ideas on where to proceed from here?
Maybe our recoveries doesn't support aroma installer. Try to flash twrp instead of cwm or put manually lib and apk/apks from zip to your system folder (same as it is located in zip), set perrmisions to apk and reboot.

thank you for your suggestion, it has got me one step closer (well I suppose anyway). perhaps from here it is just something to do with the gnow port just not being compatible with my rom? after I install it manually and recheck all the permissions via my file manager, whenever i go to google search it simply says "unfortunately, google search has stopped."
Try to find another moded version. I tried it on stock fw (ICS) few mounths ago and it worked.

Thanks, also posted a logcat dump for one of the Gnow developers and they said there was a lot of location / graphics card errors and also suggested to try another ROM. Ended up flashing JB 4.1.1 AOKP for mediapad 30.1 Final (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876676) and enjoying GoogleNow which comes built in with it.
So far I'm really surprised at how much better it is - initially thought my battery was failing ( purchased my device 2nd hand) but the drain is really low now with this ROM. Seems a bit faster over all too. Didn't test out the HDMI function yet but hope that's not as bad as it sounds. Keeping my eyes open on the development of the 4.2.2 nightlys thread and will probably head over to that once HDMI and bluetooth is working a bit better there

Stuffed my LG Optimus F3

Hi All,
I've screwed my one day old LG. I have the Australian Telstra version - LG-P655K.
Rooted fine but got trigger happy deleting some of the system apps. Basically I must of deleted some sort of downloading app as the Play Store no longer works plus I can't download any files through Chrome.
Furthermore when accessing Play Store through Chrome, it doesn't recognise my device even though I'm logged in. Guessing some sort of backup between this new device and my Google account has screwed up as well.
I've searched all over Google looking for the stock firmware in an attempt to flash it and get it back to normal. However no luck in finding it.
Anyway, I'm basically on the verge of simply buying a new phone. Can anyone help with locating the stock firmware for this phone? And maybe a stretch, but basic instructions as to how to flash it?
More than happy to make a donation to anyone that can help (if that's what people do on here, sure I've read that on other posts)
Thanks in advance.
I may be telling you what you already know but try to factory reset your phone. if that doesn't work you should find a recovery mod and firmware for your device, transfer them onto your SD card from a PC via USB and follow the steps to flash the original firmware.

Sorry, but this is bad advice as the OP obviously deleted something in /system, which a factory data reset will do nothing to help. It might even make it worse since many LGs are very sensitive about trying to run with missing bits of the /system and will throw a Security Error after resetting (possibly) or trying to update via OTA (for sure). They also already stated that they have not had luck locating the stock firmware, hence the reason for their post. I understand your willingness to help, which is great, but bad advice in these kind of situations might be worse than no advice.
Unfortunately, in a quick search, I was only able to find the specific firmware version for your phone off a Chinese site that you'll probably need Google Translate for (unless you or someone you know is fluent) and to sign up for an account there to get the link:
http://poweredw.gaodi.net/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=662939
I am not familiar with the site, so can not make any promises to whether it'll work or what other steps would need to be taken.
Another thing that I would try, would be to download a rom (have only found them for some US carriers) and unzip the rom and look in /system/app and compare with what's left in yours to see if anything important looks like it is missing.
http://androidforums.com/metropcs-t...-root/868464-rom-ms659-p659-slimlite-rom.html
Do not attempt to use that rom for your phone, it is only for comparitive purposes.
Done this before...
If google play isn't working, more than likely you've deleted Application Manager. I was debloating my Optimus F3 and uninstalled Application Manager, and lost GP with an error every time I would try to download an app. You could probably save yourself a factory reset if you could download the Application Manager as an apk via PC and move it to your phone and re-install.
Then again, if you didn't uninstall Application Manager, I wouldn't know what else has been removed.
How did you perform the root on the telstra LG p655k
Wouldn't mind knowing how you performed the root access on your phone
Thanks

Upgrading problems on Samsung P7510 tablet to Marshmallow

I'm trying to upgrade my Samsung p7510 10.1 tablet from Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 to either Marshmallow or Nougat, or better. I've installed TWRP 3.1.1 and rooted with SuperSu. I've had to assume root has worked as can't download root checker onto my tablet.
So, far I've managed to find a version of Marshmallow "ROM-STOCK_MMB29K-seed.zip" on androidfilehost.com. But when I try installing I keep getting error message "Updater process ended with signal: 4". I've wiped the Data, cleared the Cache and Dalvik Cache. Also searched the internet for info on the signal 4 problem but not found much other than to remove the "assert" line from the updater-script file in the OS zip.; that did nothing.
So, a few questions:
- Anyone know where I can get OS zips from for a Samsung P7510?
- And any ideas on resolving the signal 4 issue?
- Any other ideas?
P.S. The only reason I'm updating is I want to use it for Kindle but can only reach HTTP sites, not HTTPS. Assumed that is because it's so old that everything is out of date. And that stops me from downloading anything from just about anywhere, including Google Play.
P.P.S I have searched the forums but couldn't find anything helpful or with links that worked.
Thanks in anticipation
Might I suggest the stabelest ROM I've ever run on my P7510. I've had this installed on mine for over a year now. There are of course some minor bugs.
The signal 4 issue is most likely a Binary issue and should no longer be relevant since you should reset the device to factory and start over. Another thing is once you Root it you can't download from Google play because you now have an unverified device, it has something to do with Google Pay. You'll want to look for APKs. Although SuperSu is usable, you're going to want Majisk insted. I hear of some problems using SuperSu.
I have these files here in my PC if any of the links no longer work but you'll want to know how to flash it so you'll need the video. I'll check back soon and drop a link to my files. if you need them. I'd need to upload them to my Google Drive first.
If you have any other difficulties I'm usually here about once every week.
P.S. Your tab is better than a Kindle and I would not suggest using it as such, it runs pretty crappy that way . Amazon does have an app you can use. And I see that you have been having difficulties finding Operating Systems for your tab and yes it's because the P7510 first hit the market in March of 2011 there aren't many people doing much with it anymore. There's about 3 or 4 of us left.
Firstly, thanks for your help @Casper Young .
In particular the video was brilliant. I did have a few runs at the update, however, the process was very straightforward. The key issue was the TWRP version I was using. It was supposed to be for the P7510, but realised it was actually for the P7500, consequently the aosp files weren't loading. I think that was also the cause of the errors I was getting. And although none of the links were working I managed to get the file names from the video and sourced them from androidfilehost.com:
twrp2870-20150814-p4wifi.tar.md5
aosp-7.1-p4wifi-20170506.zip
Once I had those it was simple and the update worked smoothly.
I've also added the app from apkpure.com as Google play was a complete pain trying to get the tablet recognised. Now very pleased with the build and apps, all running very smooth.
thanks again
Glad you had no problems. There are some minor bugs. Flash doesn't work for the camera. And check your memory capacity. I use Apex Launcher for my home screen which organizes better for me.
