Worth getting S3 now ? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I was thinking of getting a Galaxy S3 (coming from Galaxy Nexus) and I was wondering whether it was worth getting now, as I read that an S4 was going to be released at the begining of next year (Febuary). As I am trying to decide between the N4 and S3, if a new Galaxy S4 is coming soon, I would rather get an N4 so I'm curious whether its going to be released soon or not. I know know one knows what's going to be released other than Samsung but if anyone has any opinions it would be of great help. Also, just another question, is it harder to build roms for the S3 than the Nexus ?
Thanks

I would wait if i were you, the price of the Galaxy S3 has held pretty solid given its such a good phone, I'll probably get the Galaxy S4 when it comes out assuming it's a major upgrade (it has to be worth it) to I'd get a Nexus 7 4 myself but Only if they release a new 32GB version and price dependant too, but the GS3 is still an amazing phone

I went ahead and got a N4 Thanks for the reply

[Q] What is your next phone?

LEMME know!

S3 no doubt I'm due for an upgrade so I'll be in line as soon as its available

I'm hoping to still get several more months, maybe a year, out of my Vibrant, so that's TBD right now. But if it died on me today I'd pick up a Galaxy Nexus since they're (relatively) cheap without a contract.
S III. Going to get an upgrade on October, so might as well, unless a better phone comes out during then (not planning to get an iPhone any time in the future.)

Same!
My 2 years are officially up in August. I'm hoping there will be some sort of leak for the next Nexus phone because I'm not blown away with the S3. :/
I think I could get another 6-8 months out of my phone but I'd rather upgrade to a phone that actually allows me to get 4G data and fully functional GPS.
Next iPhone
One x
Note 2
Or one of the next Nexus phones.
I'm waiting for the padfone myself.
Already have the GSM Nexus, but I switch off every other day with my Vibe. I just love the Vibe!

Also plan on getting a Note when they solve the emmc bricking issue. I am tempted by the GS III, but I need to play with one first.

So far all indications point towards me getting a GS3
I got a GSM Nexus Prime.
So far, I love everything about it. Especially the lack of bugs (and abundance of features) in AOSP based roms and kernels!

I'm curious what it is about the Vibrant that you like over the Nexus that keeps you going back to it? Been looking at the Nexus, but still really satisfied with my Vibrant and don't want to invest in a phone that's not a significant upgrade.
Got a one s. I thought the lack of removable battery and no sd card slot would kill it, but I don't see it bothering me much. Galaxy s 3 would have been my choice but I heard its gonna be watered down anyway.

Sounds like most of you are going for either the Galaxy SIII or the Galaxy Nexus.
My only worry in this regard is the screens.
The screen is what draws you to the device and Super AMOLED HD screens (minus the plus) just don't do it for me.
But yeah my phone is just dying. So glad I didn't keep that Moto Cliq around though... THAT would be a nightmare.
___
So I guess you've decided it for me!
I'm going with Samsung again and getting a Galaxy SIII!
Snapdragon S4 processor is ok,
2GB RAM will put me in a haze,
Let's just hope battery life better than the Vibrant's graze.

Anybody have a GSM Nexus?

Hi guys! Was just browsing your forums to get an idea of what to expect out of the note that's coming out for T-Mobile and how it would compare to the nexus. I love my nexus but been interested in the note since I've first heard about it last year. Does anyone here own both phones and if u do how do they compare? I've seen all of the comparison videos when the phones first came out but how do they compare now with jellybean on the nexus and all of the development going on here. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks you guys!

i'm actually in the exact process of trying to get my Galaxy Note to run on Tmobile and am coming from running Tmobile on a Galaxy Nexus
to be honest, the Nexus wins hands down as it has no issues running Tmobile; I'm currently running a coctail of Roms and modems to get my Note to run properly and as far as 'out of the box' I'd stick with the Nexus.
however if you've read this far and you're on ATT not Tmobile, then your mileage will vary...
overall as a device, the nexus is just a little better in every way - everything feels snappier, smoother, clearer dpi (specs may vary, its just an observation)
good luck!

Galaxy s2 or Galaxy nexus?

So i was thinking of getting one of these two phones and would really appreciate some user experiences and opinions.
GS2 costs 350€ and nexus is 450€ so that makes the galaxy s2 more appealing. Also the nexus might have screen that's a little too big already, but the concern with gs2 is the resolution, were it qHd I would have already gotten it!
Anyway i wouldn't want to spent more than 375€ on the phone, 350€ would be best. And if you have ordered from ebay etc. I'd also like to now about that since could probably get them cheaper from there. Are the phones in ebay UK international versions that work here in Finland too?
Thanks in advance!
Galaxy SII

GALAXY NEXUS - for its fastest OTA update and great developper support

If your budget is restricted to 350€ then you should go for GS2 as it is most surely gonna get jellybean update before November{ no official announcement yet } and most probably that will be last update for it...
G-Nexus has higher resolution and Google Support and gets the updates very early and surely will be upgradable to next Android Version..
Both phones have Great Developer Support here at XDA
If you don't plan on rooting it, I will way nexus because of the updates. If ur gonna root I'm not really sure

New Phone ?

I am buying a phone. Should I wait for galaxy s4 ? It's releasing on March 15 ? or should i go for HTC ONE X + ? or are there any other suggestions
SIII or SIII 4G are really fantastic I am very happy with it
not sure SIV for march
This
I would wait for an S4 and either choose that or an S3 at reduced price.
Nope wait for S5 .
jje
Why wait? There will always be a better phone. Learn to settle with the one that pleases you.

The S2 is still being supported by Samsung and developers now, and in terms of Android its old... Just get the S3, its a great phone, you can't go wrong.
If you can wait for S4 and if you want to buy right now then go for Note 2. It's great device.

S3 is mine, i'm very happy ! It's very good phone you know...
It would be stupid buying a gs3 now knowing that the gs4 is only a few months away. Not to mention all the other new phones coming out at mwc. Wait until then and compare it with all the other 1080p phones before deciding.

[Q] End of Galaxy user? Should i get Nexus 4?

I had iPhone 3G as my first phone, following by 4s then i switched to Galaxy s3 in April 2013. I've learned a lot, i've flashed many custom roms, kernel etc.
After seeing Samsung delaying updates and transporting regional lock along with kitkat update are the reason that i come to decision that i will sell my galaxy s3 for Nexus 4 (cant afford n5 yet).
I need your help guys
How good is the battery on nexus 4 compared to galaxy s3?
Idc about storage
This is a q&a thread, so it also belongs there. But to answer your question. Comparing stock of both devices, the s3 definitely wins. Samsung is good at creating a good battery life, even with touchwiz

You endured once in a blue moon updates in iOS, but you can't in android, which there is an update almost every week?
Sent from my GT-I9300
S3 wins hands down. Tho I would recommend getting sony because don't delay the update
I disagree.
Bells and whistles like smart stay that doesn't even work properly after the jellybean update or a maybe slightly better camera (though I don't find much difference) doesn't outweight not having proper multitask. Also, neither touchwiz nor aosp have the nexus smoothness. Even my dad's former galaxy nexus feels slightly better than my s3.
If you can live with not having an sdcard or a removable battery, I'd say the n4 provides a better user experience (did try it for about a month). The only reason I'm not getting the n4 is because I'm waiting out the n5.

This thread would be best off in the Nexus 4 section, most users who browse the S3 forums still have and use the S3.

This is a joke, right? S3 is in overall better then the nexus 4. S3 will get 4.4. Regional lock can be removed. Also SD-Card and removable battery is essential for a phone in my opinion. (Plus, the N4 is an Lg device ) So if you don't plan to go from S3 to N5, stick to the S3!
well i am curious how long samaung/other custom devs will continue support galaxy s3 in 2014
cuz S4 still havent recieved 4.3 and 4.4 is already rolling out for Sony flagship device soon, which means this is my last samsung device >.<
And isn't mali 400mp old tho?
i will buy N5 in April then
thanks for the replies

Duuuuude....4.4 has not even rolled out to Nexus devices. Hell, it hasn't even been announced. No way can it roll out for Sony devices any time soon.
Sorry i worded that incorrectly but i hope you see my point; Im disappointed with samsung updates. I should have went for n3 in the first place, i'd have saved £40 anyways.
How the hell are you disappointed with Samsung updates?!?! They are right behind Google when it comes to updates. LG and HTC suck at updates.

I'll have to disagree with the HTC part. My HTC one just got 4.3. I own a note 2 and an s3 and both are still stuck on 4.1. HTC seems to be improving their update speed.

Except if your aiming to the n4 for its price. I seriously doubt the n5 will have the same price the n4 has. The n4 is, at this time, the best bang for the buck around. And I suspect it will continue to be for a good while.
