I flashed the latest 11/23/2012 and seem to be having an issue that either the SMS notifications are not showing up or the messages aren't being received unless the application is open. Is there a fix for this or did I miss something? I tried looking through the thread but didn't find anything specific. Is anyone else noticing the same thing?

No issues here and I'm on the same build. Have you installed a 3 rd party SMS app? I use stock with no issues. If not try superwipe and reflash the rom . Here's it is if you want to try it ---> http://db.tt/ltWpDaAO ...just flash superwipe like you would a rom and it wipes everything, then flash rom.

I had this problem when using gosms on any ICS rom for the tbolt which really really sucks. the stock app works fine but that shit sucks...I have found that handcent works though.

That must be it because I do have GoSMS installed. I use it mostly for mass texts since the stock messenger doesn't support it. Thanks for the help guys.

I been running Simply Honey 3.8 with no problems at all and everything works great. I have only one issue its the blurry MMS. I remember this from 2.2 which i still have the zip file i flashed, but wanted to get feedback b4 i flash cause SH is 2.3 not sure if that zip file will mess anything up since it was for 2.2 software. Any help will be appreciated.

DO NOT just flash anything, if you don't know what you're doing, it will either lead to frustration or a terrible brick.....in general, do not just flash files thinking it will go smooth because that is not the case.
Go to settings, about, what is your modem version? Also, have you messed with your network, sms, or call settings?

Kb5 and have not touched any setting in the phone, besides flashing the rom...
Its not gonna werk. Any flashable .zips from 2.2 generally will result in bootloops for breakfast if you try to flash them while running 2.3. Thats just IMHO, only one real way to find out though. Good luck!

You could always try to push the Mms.apk alone if no one else seems to be experiencing it.
For some people since 2.2, open your sms app, go to settings and change the User Agent....some used Nokia or whichever one, but this worked really well when it worked for an individual.....try that and if it doesn't then we can find a modified sms app for you to use.
@Kawika no im def not tryin to find out im pretty sure its not gona work but i did try a mms apk from another 2.3 rom n no good also @crazy25000 i tried chomp & handcent sms n still retained the problem i just went into setting in the sms app n i do not see the user agent you are reffering to.

I would try to push the one from the original ROM. If no one else is experiencing the problem u r then its most likely just a bad DL or bad flash. Good luck!

Yea i have that mms fix but i used it on 2.2 the SH 3.8 is a 2.3 rom so dont think it would work....thanks for the effort....
well got tired of the blurry mms i ended up flashing back to simply galaxy 2.8 final everything back to normal no blurry mms issue....
I had the blurry mms problem, too. I tried a lot of things to fix it, what ended up working for me was installing handcent, then under handcent settings>application settings>default messaging applications select all(sms & mms). Then I froze the stock messaging app with titanium backup. No more blurry mms pics.
So this has been an ongoing problem forever now and in the end I find myself back using Sense roms.
ALL AOSP roms have an issue when someone receives a message that contains an animated gif, or a gif with an audio file attached then you receive a cannot download message error.
What causes this error, and am I the only one that is bothered by this?
Has anyone ever actually looked into a fix for this?
Would be great to be able to use an AOSP rom one day on your phone and have it work as it should.

I upgraded to XXLPQ (polish) from XXLPH yesterday.
I'm now seeing duplicate (2, somebody said 3) SMS's sent to a recipient for each one I send.
Received texts aren't duplicated
Only goSMS (or handcent) is set to notify
"stock" SMS app does NOT lead to duplicates
This didn't happen in XXLPH
Wanted to check if anyone else has this issue? Next step is probably clearing SMS data or indeed a full wipe

It seems more likely to be an issue with the firmware. As it affects all 3rd party SMS apps. Pretty sure there aren't issues on the nexus so possible not a general ics issue?

I have the same issue but I'm also not getting contact pictures in any third party apps.. not in Go contacts, Go SMS, Handcent, Whatsapp.
Tried them all and I get nowt but the stock app gets the pictures perfectly. I've removed and re-added accounts a number of times but giving up now unless someone knows of a way around it.

I have also tried freezing messaging in titanium backup and disabling messaging in the settings. Neither seams to work.

I was hoping that reverting back to stock kernel would fix it, but that is sadly not the case.

Strikes me as something that has changed within the firmware from Samsung,
Gingerbread Roms (Official and cooked) never caused the issue for me whilst using Go SMS its like something within the ICS firmware is refusing third part apps access to the facebook contact photos.. or maybe its something within the Facebook app that's blocking third party stuff.

I updated to I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar
and getting the same, default messaging app is fine, but when I have any other messaging app installed all my messages are being sent twice. I have tested this with Go SMS and Handcent, so to me sounds more like a Samsung problem.
Back to using the default app for the moment so...

No point in doing that. As this happen with all 3rd party messaging app, it is clearly a firmware issue.
It's definitely not an ICS issue otherwise the GNexus would be affected as well.

It's definitely a firmware issue but app devs maybe able to fix or work around the issue faster then it takes Samsung to correct it. Can't hurt
Pretty big bug for Samsung to cause between previous leak and LPQ and not notice
Do we have any contacts at Samsung we can report this to? Maybe someone can contact the great CyanogenMod creator who now works at Samsung to put in a small word lol

Hi everybody!
I'm also affected by the double sms bug.
I also tried to freeze the stock messaging app with titanium, BUT, now, I can't unfreeze it... have someone the same problem? have someone a solution?
titanium tell the app have been unfreeze, but it don't. I've tried several unfreezing app, with no more success.
If there's no solution, can i flash again LPQ with Odin to resolve this mess?

I flashed SpeedROM 4.0 and now I am unable to send mms messages (redundant) while I'm connected to my WiFi. I searched all over that thread to find a fix and all I came up with was to install Android 4 ICS Messaging SMS over the Play Store. tried it. it came up with an error "Duplicate Provider Authority" Any help?
I also found out that there's no notification of messages on the lock screen nor does it chime/vibrate/notify when you receive a message from an unknown number

It's a general problem with the amaze on ICS, it's widespread, so don't expect a fix anytime soon.
It never happened on the stock ics with sense 3.6. If I knew how to do all of this stuff I would help. My best guess is that the answer is in the stock ics ROM. I have my stock backup if anyone needs it for study

Do a battery pull... That will drop all the power out of the phones radios and force them to reset. Thus fixing mms hopefully

You do realise I'm on stock ICS right? If you read the wifi thread that's in this very sub forum, you'd see it's not just me that has the issue, many members here as well, go over to tmo's forum and check the ICS bug list thread, you'll see a damn long list of others there as well.

my guess is on the kernel needing to be flashed/reflashed for the mms/wifi thing. as to the other issues, no clue. have you tried running stock ics yet?
Yeah I had stock ics for a while before I switched. I don't know how to flash the kernal though. Honestly if I knew how, I'd just put stock ics mms.apk in the.zip but I tried that already and it canceled the install. Don't know how to do that either

"Duplicate Provider Authority" means that you are trying to install something that the phone already has system flags dedicated for(this explanation could be a little better).. Speedrom already has the MMS app, use a root tool, titanium backup - something to remove mms.apk from the system/app folder, then you will be able to install the one in the market -- not that that is a sure fire fix.. but one thing at a time. Try that, that is the only reason you couldn't install.

I've tried three clean installs and still haven't had any luck. On the last clean install, I even cleared out the ROM slot and made a new one (still ROM slot one). GoSMS can send my MMS and group messages, but I much prefer the stock app. What is so different about the way that MMS gets processed through GoSMS that it can handle MMS even when the regular MMS.apk is broken. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, did you find a solution to fix it?

I just noticed today that I can't receive, or send, pics after almost a month on the the stable release of cm-10.1.2. I had no problems before. I restarted the phone and cleared the messaging app cache, but it's still broke. That's when I came out to XDA to search for a solution. I found your post, but no solution so far.
