I have an AT&T Note that has locked me out (bought from ebay), and the VOLUME UP is broken so I can't get into recovery.
I feel like my only hope getting into the phone is "adb reboot recovery". The problem is I can't get into settings to check USB debugging
Is there anybody out there that knows if it is possible to disassemble a ROM and make changes so that instead of USB debugging being OFF by default, it is ON?
And if you know it's possible, does anybody know of anyone that could handle the task. Thanks a bunch guys:good:
Any other ideas are welcome, I think if I can get into recovery I can factory reset and get past the lock. Will this even work?
if your rooted, you can use titanium backup to get into recovery mode
He is locked out, can't get past the lockscreen. How will he install TiBU?
Since the volume button is broken, and possibly other things wrong, why not get a new mainboard?
Or send it to a JTAG service to force a new rom into the phone.
Sorry didn't see that, couldn't you just flash a stock rom with Odin, the volume down button works right?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Ya I tried flashing a stock rom, it still doesn't get me past the lock screen. And this is a new logicboard already. What if there is a MOD or something that adds boot to recovery in the power menu? Then I could get into recovery. I would have to be able to flash it with odin though. I have 3 notes, one needs jtag, the good one I gave to my wife and this one I pulled from a note run over by a car haha. I would like to get this one going I can live without a volume button!
I think the next step is finding a way to get recovery on the power menu!
The new Novena J2 rom (stock ICS) has the four reboot options in the power menu. Go for that.
I think plan B would be to ask a developer to cook you a rom that has the lock screen removed completely.

A couple questions, Where can I find this rom you speak of, and is it flash-able with odin?
If this rom exists im set, thanks man. I've been looking but can't seem to find it.
Really?

Hello,
I just flashed my wifi gtab 10.1 with the stock touchwiz ux rom via odin from the development thread.
Now, whenever i start the download mode on my tab, following is coming up:
http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=733&d=1304696743
The shown one here is from a S2, but I get exactly the same screen with my gtab.
Before I flashed it via odin this screen wasn't there and I got directly into download mode.
Even restoring the normal stock rom or installing cwm didn't remove it.
Am I the only one with this warning screen and is it possible to remove it again?
Thanks in advance.
So nobody knows something about this? That's sad. =/
Edit: Sorry for double posting, wanted to edit.
its nothing much
just means you've flashed a ROM
So it's absolutely normal that this warning screen will pop up everytime I start the download mode from now, because I flashed a ROM one time?
Also, there is no way to remove it?
Thanks so far.
on the Galaxy S II you can either get a usb jig or do that flash/reflash trick but on the Tab i dont think there's anything yet. but hey thats no big deal !
....DELETE
No, I think it came with the latest official ROM. I just got my tab the other day, brand new. The firmware on it is XXKG8. I haven't added anything, and as I said, it's new.
I get that message before download mode. I have been actually hesitating to root it because of this, thinking that they have added some sort of counter like on the SGS2.
So this is not the result of adding a rom, it appears on brand new retail tabs as well, it seems.
So from what I gather, nothing happens when you press the yes button to go into download mode after you see that message?

That is normal, no need to worry about it. I got the same warning once I performed the 11MB update on my UEKG4 build. I have a feeling that warning was "borrowed" from vanilla 3.2, anyone with a Xoom tablet on 3.2 please let us know. Did you had an unlocked bootloader on your tablet (lockpad)?

Because if you did, the update locked your bootloader unfortunately. Still, there is no biggie on that also... Personally, I don't care if it locks the bootloader, as long I can flash the tablet with CWM. That means I can flash a custom ROM, kernel and also root. It makes no difference to have a locked or unlocked bootloader, unless you want to flash something that needs a different bootloader (i.e. Tabuntu).
Hey everyone, I've searched thru the forum looking to see if someone had the same issues I did, and the stellar assistance that was given to others with various problems, I'm hoping that I can get the same (haven't seen anyone with my particular issues yet).
As mentioned in the title, I'm using a stock T-Mobile Amaze, unlocked and I'm using it in Barbados. A few weeks ago, a notification popped up on my phone.

Naturally, I was curious to see what this update was, but after ensuring that everything that was required for the update was in place, I see this...
...which I'm sure means there's some error in installing the update. The phone freezes, and I can't get out of this without doing a battery pull a la blackberry. This is issue 1.
Issue 2 is that a lot of my menus have wrong names, e.g. the 1 for Wireless connections says "Turn It On"
and even the options within the menus are wrong, e.g. In the display menu, to set the screen brightness, that option is entitled "Set A PIN code to lock your UIM Card"
Further to these, often when I try to access many of my settings, the whole shebang crashes, and asks me about sending an error report. Til now, nothing has changed in that regard. Any assistance to these problems would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Your best bet is just to do a master reset on the phone. It should clear up all those issues.
tried it...didn't work (well, the menus still are screwed up, and the settings keep crashing when i try to access some of them, like the Sound menu.)

Have you tried locking your bootloader and flashing the stock firmware?
You already unlocked your bootloader, right?
Just flash a custom rom.
If you REALLY want to flash the 1.43 update then relock your bootloader and flash this: http://goo.gl/KvHzj
Rename it to PH85IMG.zip and store it on the root of your sdcard.
It will update everything.
Then unlock your bootloader again, reroot and you'll be good.
I did a trade for a note which arrived on Saturday but I wasnt able to fire up until tonight.
On the first boot instead of seeing anything related to att etc etc I was greeted with this

The owner told me it was one day old and like brand new in box. Did he try to install a custom rom. I cannot for the life of me get it out of the android recovery. Nothing happens if I select reboot. I have to take the battery out which results in the same
HELP
Have you tried da_g's recovery?
Btw, how many notes do you have?

Did you factory reset it? Or it just booted like that. Looks like its in some sort of Clock Work Recovery or soft bricked which is not a big deal. Someone here will help you out soon as i am not a Pro on recovery. Same thing happened to me when i bought a Galaxy S2 a few months back. Just hang tight until some one gives you directions or search the forums.
Try and "Reboot" it while highlighted by hitting the power button. Thats at least how i reboot out of clock work mod for the Att version. Next step prob would be to highlight wipe data/factory reset. But again wait until someone confirms this for ya. Shouldn't be long
Just curious, what did you trade for
all good got it figured out. thanks

Good to hear man.
Hey guys,
Pretty desperate here, and I've been searching the forums and other pages on the web for a solution, but nothing yet.
I'm afraid I did something pretty stupid. I wanted to update Gmaps, but Play Store gave me the 'not signed correctly, please delete older version' message. So I tried to uninstall the old Gmaps through Settings, but that didn't work.
Than I had this 'brilliant' idea to just hardcore delete Gmaps through Titanium Backup. Well, I did and... BOOM! Black screen, a short boot loop and after that... nothing.
I took out the battery for about 15 minutes and placed it back in, and now I get this weird message saying 'WTSR/SMPL'.
Phone won't start up in Recovery, only Download mode.
Somebody can help me out here?

Flash a stock rom in download mode with Odin, clean slate. Then re-root your phone & you can restore a backup (if you have one).

Thanks for your response so quick, appreciate it.
BTW, are you sure there is no other way? Did you see this WTSR message before?
No probs. No, I've never seen it. But thinking logically; you have no recovery, the phone won't boot normally & you can only get into download mode. You don't really have any other option other than the one I suggested, do you ?

Not sure. The weird thing is: when I press the home button repeatedly, the screen starts flickering from white to black and back. So there's still something alive, don't you think?
Ok so this may have been posted before but I've been searching and can't find anything.
So I got my note 2 when they released and I did the first "root" method available which I think was odin. Not really root with a custom recovery however I don't think. See the following screenshot to see what I'm currently running. Its been fine until now so I never re flashed anything or install twrp or anything.

Lately its been running slow so I want to fully root and install something along the lines of the latest Clean Rom. I had cleanrom on my Rezound and I love his roms.
Only reason I'm making this thread is because I'm not sure where to start because I don't think I'm stock yet I'm not "really" rooted.
Dont want to mess up my device.
Thanks!!

Sounds like you are rooted, but your bootloader is still locked. In order to flash ROMs on Verizon you will need to unlock the bootloader (unless you did that via Odin the first time around). From those screenshots you won't be able to tell if you have unlocked the bootloader...as far as I know the only want to check is to boot into recovery. If you see TWRP or CWM you are set...if you get the stock recovery you need to follow Adam Outler's original unlock method as you are on baseband VRALJB. To access recovery power off the device and then press volume up + power button + home button simultaneously. Whatever boots up will tell you what you need to know.
stary by reading the stickies.
Yea I believe I'm still on the stock recovery.
