So my new case came in today. So far I love it! It was sad to cover up what I believe it's one of the most beautiful pieces of hardware I have seen, but reality hit me and I can't afford to replace it. So otterbox defender series steps in! While this does add a lot of bulk to the phone, I was surprised by how little it actually was. The phone doesn't seem to feel much bigger in my hand. It still fits in my pocket well too. The only thing so far that I can complain about is the built in screen protector. It definitely takes more effort to use the screen. Anyhow, enough said.....pics!

I do agree on both accounts. I does suck to have to cover this phone up but it is absolutely necessary for me as well. I have a tendency to be butter fingers. I also agree about the built in screen. As nuts as this may seem I'm going to cut out the built in screen and install a Invisishield once they are released. I hope I don't mangle the rest of the case when I cut it out. Maybe I'll make a YouTube video of it. Also, does is seem as if the rigidness of the case would go away if the screen is removed? I'm not concerned with its "protective features I only got the defender versus the commuter because of the clip, a must have with this big of a phone that may not fit in my pocket all the time. Thanks for your feedback.
i didnt notice any microperfs does it cover the rear notification light?
I've had one before you can just push out the flimpse screen protector without needing to cut it. Its just held on with adhesive

What about the commuter series? Does that offer as good a protection as the defender? I notice it is 2 layer instead of 3 but it also does not have the built in screen but instead comes with a screen protector. I am thinking of getting one or the other for some added protection. I currently have the gel case from verizon btu know if I drop this thing, it is not going to survive.

I doubt that removing the built in screen protector would have any effect on the ruggedness of the case.
I actually prefer the commuter too but wanted the clip. However I use the clip for a vehicle mount. I have done this in the past and it works better than any dock I have seen. Plus I don't have to worry about removing the case to make it fit in the mount....its made for it!

My wife had a commuter for her gs3 and it was a nice fit and felt strong. she actually just ordered the commuter for her DNA so I can post pics when it arrives.

If you could post up a picture for me (and for everyone really) when it arrives, that would be great. I think the Defender doesn't add as much bulk as I thought it might but if I can get something almost as resistant to my butterfingers in the Commuter while being a little slimmer, I am down with that. thanks!

No I don't have a charger but I noticed Verizon had one on display, so I'll try to swing by and test it out.

I'm interested in this as well and is the only reason I have not ordered this case yet. If you can find this out for us it would be very very much appreciated bro
The Defender series is listedon the Verizon site and states in the description that it does work with inductive charging. If a store near you has it (none by me did) I would think it is worth a trip to see for sure.
How long would you estimate it takes to get the DNA in and out of the otterbox? Are we talking a second or two or is it a bit of a struggle or a ten second operation?

I have only taken it out once so far and it took maybe 3 seconds to get the rubber off and then I had to fiddle with the snaps on the plastic to get the inner layer off and that took me maybe 1 min at most....mind you this was my first time doing it, so no big deal at all.
Update: so after using the case for two days this is my thoughts....
I removed the platstic screen protector from the case, peels right out with a little force. Wayyyyy better! The screen is buttery smooth and the plastic screen protector that comes with the case just ruined it so it had to go. Really the edges of the case are raised enough that unless you drop it on some rough terrain it won't make contact with the ground on your typical surfaces.
Now I have found that those raised edges can get in the way sometimes. Its not a huge deal but you will notice them when you are on the edge of the screen. I did increase the margins in my launcher to help with that but once you get into apps there's not much you can do.
With the phone in the clip holster you will find that it is large on your side. I use it when at work but probably won't when at home. You will look like a nerd but it definitely is convenient. It also amplifies the speaker nicely when you put the phone in screen out for videos and such. As I stated in an earlier post I plan on using it as a vehicle mount. I haven't tried yet but I think I will find some heavy duty Velcro and put the soft side on the clip and the rough side on the dash. When I get around to it I will post pics.
All in all I love the case but to be fair I have to point out its draw backs as I did above. This case meets multiple needs and makes me feel much more at ease when handling it, knowing the phone is safe. Cheers!
I just received the Otterbox Defender this afternoon. Perfect size, but along with other users, I may have to remove the screen protector. It feels like typing on a Blackberry Storm. As far as wireless charging, I have the Energizer Pad and it does work through the case, but requires almost perfect placement. Takes a second or two to find a spot that works. Haven't charged it long enough to see if the case makes it overheat or if it takes longer than without the case, but I will report back.
I was in the Verizon store tonight checking out the Note 2 and they told me the Otterbox Defender had arrived so I picked one up. Like the others the screen protector HAD to go. Popped right out. The only issue was cleaning off the adhesive so it doesn't get on the DNA. Was kind of a pain in the ass getting it all off. I used something called Goo Gone to finally get the last of it.
Anyway, I really like this thing. My only gripe is that the hip holster kinda sticks out from my hip more than I would like. My arm hits it and I'm afraid I will get hung up on things once in awhile. We'll see how it goes as far as that is concerned but beyond that I love the fit and finish of this case. Very very nice.
It charges fine on the LG wireless charger....I have the Nokia charger coming as well and will update how it works with that device but I don;t foresee any issues.
I just picked up the defender, and like many others I had to remove the screen protector. In doing so though, it opened up a small gap that allowed the case to flex a bit, or at least that's what I thought at first. If you notice that once you take the screen protector off, there is a very defined glue line. Since the squeaking and creaking from the plastic shifting around was driving me nuts, I took a fine pair of scissors and actually cut the screen protector right along that glue line. Once everything was said and done, I reattached the very thin section of the screen protector back to the plastic and then assembled the case. If cut correctly none of the screen protector will be visible. Low and behold, the small gap was filled back up, and now the case is as solid as it was with the protector on there.
I know not everyone will want to basically mutilate a 60 dollar case to get rid of a little creaking, but for me it was intolerable. Just thought I would share.

I haven't noticed a creak but the plastic is making the soft buttons on the bottom difficult to use.The rest of the screen seem sOK though. But I'll no doubt have to remove the plastic altogether.
In other Otterbox news, I see that ProClip now has a "Adjustable Holder for Rugged Cases". Whereas I have always opted for a nice Pro Clip car mount for my devices over an OtterBox, this might allow for both. The web description claims this holder is for iPhone5s with a Defender, it gives the dimensions that the holder can adjust to and they seem to include the DNA Defender size unless I'm wrong since I don't have a micrometer. Their Facebook page is implying the holder is "Universal" but I want return-ability guaranteed.

For anyone interested - I felt like the defender clip protruded a little more than I cared for while on my hip (like others have mentioned). My solution: After checking the dimensions, I ordered a regular leather belt holster (for the NOTE 2). Got it today - and the DNA (with the defender case on) fits nicely. I am very happy with this find and hope it helps anyone looking for something similar an alternative solution. I also ordered an armband hoping I have the same results - will let you know when it comes in.
Here's a link in case you're interested - there are several different models to choose from in the Note 2 section - this is what I got

I love my Otterbox. I also, had to remove the crap shield that came with it. I have a Zagg on the way and will run both of them for complete protection.

I've seen quite a few reviews / post on the SGP NeoHybrid series cases but nothing on the Linear Color series, thus I figured I'd post some quick photos and share my comments.
After several reviews on how the NeoHybrid series sags after while I decided to stay away from that model and try the Linear Color series. I found out the frame is of the same material as the NeoHybrid, just the back is different / hard plastic. I wanted a two-tone look, thus ended up ordering 2 cases, one in Silver and one in Black. First let me say I absolutely LOVE these cases. I think the look is absolutely gorgeous and the fit is spot on. I read reviews about the back being loose on the international version of the SG2 but this is not the case with our model. There is absolutely no movement of the back case. The cases are also a little different between the Black and Silver. The Black has a high gloss while the Silver has a bit of a flat texture to it. This works well with the combo of the cases as you don't have a full slippery phone with the all black and you have nice break in the texture with introducing the gloss black to the silver case. Overall I would highly recommend this case. The picture I have do not do the cases justice. Additionally these cases include the Ultra Crystal screen protector which is installed in the pictures.

Thank you for the review. Can you confirm if the case covers the top mic? Also, how well does the side piece fit the phone? Is a youtube review it looked like the side piece was bowing out a bit so every time the buttons were pressed, the case would clearly flex.
Wow those cases look sweet. Thanks for the info.

The case does indeed cover the top mic, however I believe it can easily be fixed by some of the methods described in this forum (hot nail, small drill, etc). I plan to give it a shot on mine this weekend. Will try to post some update pictures with a better camera when I do. As far as the case, there is absolutely no bowing / flexing taking place. If it's the same youtube video I saw, they mentioned they had attempted to put the case on with one of those skins on and that make the case bulge a bit as they forced it on. The two I have fit like a glove and again have no movement of the back plate as described for the international version.
Case
I like the pics, and I am in the market for a case. I am definitely going to check these out.
I got my Linear case today and I must say I like it alot! I go Soul Black which has a glossy finish to it which I prefer. Because of this glossiness, the case can be slippery though but i dont mind. The case has a nice lip on front side so laying the phone face down is no problem. The fit is well done too. With a 3 piece case, I was worried how snug it would fit together. Rest assured, everything feels nice and snug. I also verified my phone, wifi, and gps signals are not negatively impacted by this case , unlike my CaseMate Barely There Aluminum which I also like the look of but could not deal with the greatly degraded gps signal.
My only complaint, and this definitely more of a preference, I wish the lip on the front side was a not so high. Swiping from edge to edge, my finger hits the edge. Its not a big deal though.
Overall, I would recommend this case!
I would get one, but I'm thinking about taking my SGS II back next week for the LG Nitro HD when it comes out. It's nice to know there are some good, reasonably priced cases for this phone, though.

Hmm...I like my Neo Hybrid case but it's a pain whenever I want to remove it to access the microsd card or when I had to peel off an old screen protector and place a new one one. Been thinking about this case and was wondering if you could post or PM me pics? (Probably gonna go with soul black as well since I don't want to buy a white & black to keep my stormtrooper look -- unless someone's willing to buy the black shell with white backing?)
Thanks!

Alright I will post some pics later. I will say that removing this case is pretty easy however, I dont think I would advise doing it too many times. There are little clips that attaches the bottom part to the frame. I imagine these clips could wear over time if the case is removed too many times.

Thanks! Yeah, I don't plan on removing the case too often but I'd also like it NOT to be such a PITA when I want to take it off. It's really the only negative thing I ahve to say about the Neo Hybrid case. I wish they offered a white shell w/black backing instead of having to buy 2 different color cases though since they offer the white shell with pink, turquoise, etc. <-- NO black backing, ReaLLY?

I believe it's the same case - the only difference is that you'll get the correct Steinheil screen protector without the home button cutout that comes with the i9100 (aka international) version. The case itself fits either although since the i9100 is a bit slimmer, the back supposedly wiggles whereas it should fit flush on the i777.
Ugh...so I went ahead decided to get the Infinity White Linear case and got it today...
Sux, it doesn't fit right. The bottom part won't clip into the rest; only one side clips in properly as if the width is not right. I've emailed SGP's customer service so they can RMA and get me a new case (I'm going to be pissed though if they try to charge me for shipping & handling).
I'm really surprised that it doesn't fit. I hope I just got one from a bad batch.
I sent an SGP neohybrid case back on the 14th of november and still waiting on my refund. had to pay for the shipping back.

Was the product defective (my Neo Hybrid fits fine but I wanted the Linear case for easier access to my microsd card and battery)?
If it was defective, then you shouldn't have to pay to ship it back.
I'll just have to wait and see...don't know what case to get if they don't RMA and send me a Linear case to fit...(thought about the Taurus but don't want the metal case to interfere with GPS).
sent back due to wrong screen protector being sent, and had also read about how the rubber back saged over time. i bought one of the s line cases off ebay for like $5 and it fits perfect and didnt increase the size much.

Ok, then yes it would make sense that they charge you for shipping. But in my situation, the bottom part of the case doesn't fit properly. I'll look at the S line case you mentioned and see how that is. Thanks.
does anyone with the samsung 2000mah battery using with this case WITH the backing on?
I ordered on Amazon at 10:49pm last night the Seidio Active case (black) for my HTC Rezound. It was delivered this afternoon at 2:40pm.
I have been using the same type of case with my Dinc since I got it. I waited a couple weeks before deciding I didn't want to leave the Rezound unprotected.
Like the Dinc version, the case consists of two parts... A rubber shell that you put onto the phone first, and then a hard shell that clamps on over the back of the rubber shell.
This provides a shock absorber like affect that protects the phone pretty good. I've dropped my Dinc a number of times in all kinds of angles. Take it out of the case even after 2 years of use and the phone looks brand new.
The case does add some bulk and weight to the phone and adds a rim of rubber around the front of the phone which protects the phone if it lands face down.
The Rezound version actually uses a lot less plastic than the Dinc version does. You can see in the picture below that the dinc version (on the left) there are only a few cutouts along the edge of the hard shell, but with the Rezound one it there is a lot less along the edge.

This has a benefit of lessening the weight, but also makes it feel a lot easier to break when taking off and putting on. I think it is a good case though.
One thing that takes getting used to is the new lip that is around the side of the front of the phone, I got used to resting thumb (I hold the phone in the left hand) on the left edge and just swiping across.. Now my thumb rests on the rubber and you have to kind of pick it up before swiping.
Another positive is that it provides a lot easier to use set of volume buttons. The device has very low profile volume buttons that I have trouble using. With the case, no problems any more.
I've seen people complain about the power button in that it is not raised like the volume buttons, but it is easy to push and I actually rarely use the power button on the phone. One it is on the wrong side of the phone when you hold it in the left hand and I used Widget Locker which allows me to use the volume button to activate the device instead.
BTW I decided to not get the combo with holster because I rarely use a holster. I found that my phone takes a much bigger beating when I use a holster rather than just pocketing it instead. When I get into my truck, I put the phone in a pocket in the Visor.

very informative. i too have the inc and the rez case. After all the money i spent on cases for my inc, i think the Seidio case series is the best.
Seido Active Holster user plus an option for extended battery
I too am a satisfied Seido Active user both on my Droid Inc and now my Rezound. Sure some bulk but certainly not an OB Defender or a Trident Kraken.
On occasion I need the extended battery and I am a holster user. I went to my local Verizon store and cruised the cases they had for the extended battery and if/how it would fit in the Seido holster. I found a TPU case they had (in a black and a kind of opaque grey). It fits in the Active holster almost perfectly. It is about 1-1/2 mm shorter so a slight bit of room but no way of coming out of the holster unless you release the latch. Works for me.

That's a good idea. I have the OEM Extended Battery case as well, but wasn't going to use it anymore since I got the Seidio setup.
I like my Seidio active a lot as well. I wish the silicone was maybe a little tighter, but it hasn't caused any issues. The case is easy to remove as many times as you need without issue. The holster is of excellent quality, but I do have to slip the tip edge of the phone in past the holster clip. Otherwise it will catch on the top of the silicone and pull it back.
Any of you tried the otterbox defender case yet? If so, is it as bulky as that? I will be returning my defender tomorrow, and I am in the market for another case.

I had the surface kit for my dinc and it had issues pulling up the screen protector. any issues with this case?
I did as all others on here, got one for my Rezound after I had it for my Inc. Although this time not in white, lol. I have had it for a week and I have noticed that the rubbery texture is starting to peel already. I'm not too thrilled about that.
Don't use a screen protect so can't comment on that.

I saw this case and the Incipio Silicrylic on Amazon for about the same price...anyone have any experience with both cases? I like the look of the Silicrylic better but I've always heard good things about the Active cases.

I have both. IMO, the seidio active is superior. The Incipio has a looser, bulkier fit. Never use it anymore.

how cheap would you sell it for if you dont use it?
Ahhhhh Relief. I FINALLY have a case for my note 3. I was dreading every day knowing I had no case yet for my baby not it has some armor and I feel much better.
Bonus? this armor is amazing. I have to say kudo's to UAG they keep improving the cases. they take the customer issues and feedback and they incorporate it into future designs.
lets have a look at this beauty before we continue.

On my screen this is a very good representation of the actual color of the case. Some of my other pictures come out a little "more" orange (which I would have liked) but its still orange enough to keep me happy (I prefer Retina Burning colors
They selected a very good orange for this case. not too "outlandish" but still pleasingly bright and orange.
They have improved several key area's of the case. More ribbing inside to more firmly meld with the shape of the phone. The buttons tended to be a little mushy. We the customer learned if we "sliced" it a little along each button it freed them up nicely. they have fully incorporated this concept in the new case and the buttons are now like "butter"
I am not joking when I say the buttons feel "better" with the UAG case on than they do naked" its easier to find them and they for some strange reason seem to "press" better. its very strange. I have never had a case "improve" on the function of the phone this way before. My guess is samsung just make them too small and slipper and the case design of the UAG corrects this.
if button depression is a sticking point for you then you will NOT be displeased with the UAG.
I also love that they went back to the original design. I did NOT like the new design for the Note II case. it was ugly enough to me that I never even bought one for my Note II so very happy to see the return of this design.
Some more interior shots of the cut outs and buttons and patterning.
The UAG is a medium duty design case with some features that push it upwards to inbetween medium duty and heavy duty.
Some of these are the ridges on the backside which also act to protect the case itself from marring when you set it down.
its a two part "melded" construction. the black is TPU which is a "stiff" rubber like compound (thermo plastic) this provides your "shock" protection (dropping it) and then it has a Poly Carbonate component (the orange part) that gives you rigidity and IMPACT/Penetration protection. (something hitting the phone)
the phone has as much impact protection as a "heavy duty" case but not as much "shock" protection (rubber thickness) as a heavy duty case like for example a caseology hybrid rugged or a AMS Kraken from trident or a zero shock from zero lemon. its a trade off of amount of protection and how "LARGE" you want the phone to become.
a full on HD Ruggedized case will DOUBLE the size of your phone. minimum. when your out in the woods you might need that kind of protection. if your more careful around home you don't really need that kind of protection.
there are 2 methods of typical damage to a phone. something hits the screen directly or the corner is impacted.
this is where the UAG moves to inbetween medium duty and heavy duty.
the corners on the UAG case are not form fitting. they are "larger" than the stock corners to provide extra shock protection at this critical point of impact. I have no doubt you could drop this phone from 6ft onto a corner and not worry about any damage to the phone. (No I won't be testing that on my $550 phone
Last Interior shot
Another welcome improvement is more frontal encasement. its quite difficult to install and even more difficult to remove the phone from this case.
Mind you this is a good thing. the harder it is to install and remove is a very good indicator of how well designed the case is to retain the phone.
the front opening is smaller now. so the phone does not FIT through the front. you need to distort the case quite a bit to shoe horn the phone into it. VERY welcome upgrade! this case will NOT release this phone easily on its own.
the phone is also more recessed into the case! big big improvement. this is important for when you set the phone down on its face (to protect the face) if its too close to the surface you set it down onto things can scratch or impact the screen.
they have thickened this up so you now have a bit over 2mm of screen depression distance. In this picture you can see its thicker than a nickle which is 1.95mm
Of course same as before and one of the larger benefits of a case is it depresses the camera lens nicely. preventing it from touch anything when the phone is set down or put inside anything and also reducing the chances if you putting your finger on it when you grab/extract/slide the phone putting finger prints on it marring your videos.
this portion of the case is around 3mm thick and you end up with a bit over 2mm of depth protection (the camera lens led unit of the Note 3 protrudes out of the phone about 1 mm)
Lets do a walk around of the outside of the case.
At the bottom you have very nice clean cutouts for the Speaker and Microphone access holes. excellent precision cuts here.
The Stylus cut out is also precise and nicely spacious giving you easy unrestricted access to remove the stylus.
The USB jack cut out is also very nice and more spacious than before! this is fantastic so if you have a "larger" than typical plug you won't have a problem with the case cut out interfering with insertion of the plug.
My skinny mSD OTG adapter fits fine. I don't have my Meenova adapter handy I will update this review once I have it although I do not anticipate a fitment issue.
at the top we have headphone and microphone cut outs. the headphone jack looks to be large enough to encompass "big head" plugs without a problem and the other cut out is your IR Emitter.
On the sides we have the volume rocker
and opposite the power button
I like the new hex pattern sides. while I did not have a grip problem with the old design IT WAS a wee slippery feeling. Now it feels very nice. no slip concerns.
Close up of the back of the phone with design and UAG logo details
They even thought to increase the spacing for the proximity and light sensors to prevent interference and false readings
And how it fits in the hand (of note I have VERY large hands) I can completely cover the phone with my hand.
This case is more difficult to install and remove than the original. this is a good thing. more secure. its quite easy once you know how
Start by inserting one long side of the phone
than using your thumb push the bottom opposing corner of the phone into the case pulling the case down and pushing the phone "up" at the same time till it snaps into place
work UP the remaining side snapping it into place until its all in. You can do this one handed (see video below)
Removal is a little trickier. Push one corner off then work your way down to the other corner and pull the phone out. (again see video you can do this one handed)

Nice review bro. I just ordered the Scout. Did the miss the hole on the bottom right of phone. Not sure if it's a mic or what but I do know they had a batch go out b4 they realized.

My Note3 is locked but my XDm45 is loaded.
They have always had the slits under the power and volume keys. Or at least on the s3,s4. If they don't have it it's cuz they're fakes.
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
nope. no slits on the multiple S3 case I had. I added them myself with an exacto knife and I bought them direct from UAG not third party. Their was a whole thread here on XDA about it and that thread is where I got the idea from to use an xacto blade to slide the slit.
they offered to send a replacement immediately but I said no worries as it was a super easy fix. I did order early so maybe it was a bad batch or early batch or something.
I'm just until opposite of you. I really like their Note 2 case which gave you the ability to change the color combination. Since they did away with that design for their Note 3 case I haven't even given it a second look, until looking at your pics. I still don't like their Note 3 case. Also, it looks bulkier than their Note 2 case, is it? I just think the Note 3 looks too nice to bury in a case like this, my opinion of course. I never drop my phones anyway, so my clear Diztronic TPU covers my needs while still allowing my go see my phone. I'm also still shocked that UAG covered the temp sensor hole, and even called it a "mystery hole"!! Really UAG, a mystery hole?!?! Must suck not having access to the internet!! Lolol
SwiftKey'ed from my White Sprint Note 3 via XDA Premium
not me. hated the note II design also hated I could not get it in orange. only black and white my two most disliked phone colors. now if the OUTSIDE was orange (instead of the nearly invisible tiny insert) I might have gotten it even though I don't like the design.
man was I excited when I heard they were so rapidly coming out with a Note II case (I waited so long for the S3 case) that when it popped up my first instant reaction was ..... YUCK ..... but ahhh I guess I could deal with it in orange and then I found out NO ORANGE !! only white and black.. Double Yuck hehehe
the case is very slim. it adds very little bulk to the phone in either case.
I really love the industrial rugged military like design of the S3 and this Note 3 case. I guess I am just partial to that kind of styling.
I can see people liking the Note II case. a lot of people did like it! so your not alone!
meh. the temp/hygro hole was irrelevant. I actually wish I got one without the hole. it won't effect the readings from the sensor and is just one more hole for dirt to get into. I might even fill that hole in.
YO UAG !! how about some CLEAR loving for the Note 3
freaking teasing me with that clear case then only releasing it for the icrap !! no fair
clear would be pretty slick. using vinyl skins you could "change up" often with the same case!
I see the hole in the second last pic. Thanks!
Excellent write up! Thank you @nerys71 for the extra inspiration to get my own.
Sent from above.
no problem. I really love their cases.
Oh I so dream of a UAG case for the Zero Lemon battery
when you hold our device in landscape mode where is your home button? left or right side of the screen?
i got this case too and absolutely love it. however i did notice a small detail today that UAG probably didnt consider. Most users hold the device in landscape mode with the home button on the right side... in doing so the UAG logo on the rear is upside down. looks like the brand is GEN... It should have probably been designed so that its right side up when in landscape mode.
as I said most users hold it this way, some might use the home button on the left tho...
hmmm poll anyone? lol
I'd say you are on the wrong side of the phone if you are looking at the uag logo

ha, so that's why my touchscreen wasnt working correctly and looked a little orange....
it was just an observation
I really like orange and how this case looks. However I pretty much require a holster or something of the sort.

should not be hard to find/mod/make a holster for it. IE maybe a slip grip?
So i've been looking for a new case since i'm not really satisfied with the current bumper I have on now. And I've narrowed it down to these two cases. They both have pro's and cons so im coming to xda on what you guys think?

First is this aluminum bumper. As you can see from the picture this is a beauty. It will make your note 3 feel like your actually holding a $700 phone instead of holding plastic faux leather. And im guessing the protection must be good since it's like a body replacement. But then the cons come in. Reduced signal, I'll need to carry the small screwdriver around if i wanted to open back, If I drop it there will be dents, and I will be most likely getting a tempered glass for more protection.
Then there is this case. All leather, hand stitched goodness. It looks good, can act like a wallet, and has a hole around the speaker so I don't need to have my credit cards hanging out when I make calls. But then if I lose my phone I lose everything (credit cards, ID, etc). The volume keys aren't accessible when its closed. Im not sure if i'd need a tempered glass. I think there were some other cons that I don't remember.
So what do you guys think wins? Im open for you guys to comment.
lol im not really into the leather wallet/case but the Kommadant looks really nice, too expensive for me but i do have to aluminum bumper cases and they do reduce signal but nothing that bothers be atleast. id go for the Kommandant just for the premium feel and amazing look.
Man.... I just need a nice tpu case with a back reading suport and a usual screen protector... Works perfectly and i don't damage at all my phone.
This leather case is complicated, and the aluminun case its beautiful but i bet it scratches all the phone body when you remove the case. Metal against plastic, no way plastic can survive intact.
Not a fan of either personally. Neither one of them will provide much if any protection if you drop the phone.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
Back to the drawing board my friend, neither one of those cases are meant for drop protection imho. I can almost guarantee signal loss with that aluminum case and that leather one looks weird, like a luggage bag.
I actually bought a wallet style case the first day I bought this phone just to have a case on it and its just turned out to be a pain as far as using the phone for calling someone. I would say look into the Spigen Slim Armor, Spigen Neo Hybrid, or UAG cases and if you do look at a Spigen case, make sure they are authentic. I mentioned those three because I have both Spigen's for the note and had the UAG for my GS3, great cases.
not a fan of the flip cases.
the bumper you posted will drop your signal not due to the metal back.
There is another bumper tha just goes around the outside so it doesnt block the antenna.
It does suck about the screw driver being needed but ahh i have a htc one m7 and its all build in no removing the battery, just like iphones.
So i dont think that that is such a big deal.
Dropping it will make a dent but depends on where you get it from you should be able to buy a new one if you dent up this one.
For myself personally, having used a wallet case for a good 2 months, it's nothing special. It's convenient in some cases, but when you get coins for change, it kind of sucks. Also, I live in constant fear that I'm going to accidentally drop everything out if it every time I open it. That being said, I'd much rather the wallet over the screw in case. I open my phone up a lot, so yeah. I'm currently using a Neo Hybrid (if you could call it that.. it's fake ) and a tempered glass screen protector. It's awesome Dunno if that helps or not.
I have used the Neo Hybrid on my S4 and its was a GREAT case. It's not aluminum so no signal issues. I will NEVER use a case that flips cloed on the screen. To many issues with scratch/wear on the glass with sand or other particles. Being in your pocket it creates friction on the glass. If it doesn't scratch with sand or dirt, it will likely over time wear away the oleophobic coating on the glass or glass screen protector.

Yeah it makes me cringe when people say they like them for the screen protection. Yes they cover the screen, this is very different from protecting the screen.
I'd recommend either a neo hybrid, slim armor or uag, in combination with a tempered glass screen protector.
Imo, the uag will give the most protection and the neo the least. The neo still provides good protection, just not as good as the other two.

When I buy a case, its protection I look for, not aesthetics, so the leather cases aren't even an option for me.
I've got an Otterbox Defender. Hard plastic inner with rubber outer and flaps for the charging port and the headphone jack. Haven't dropped the phone from a decent height yet (and I don't plan to lol) but I've used two-piece cases on other devices and I find they offer the best protection. The Otterbox Commuter is a bit cheaper and a bit smaller, but there's no built-in screen protector, though it does come with a plastic adhesive one. The Commuter is a little less protective than the Defender and the Defender is a bit bulkier, but not by that much, I tried both at the store before I bought the Defender. The Defender does work with some glass screen protectors for added protection as well, if you remove the built-in screen plastic protector.

Mine arrived today from Zerolemon, extended battery with the tough case. Will install when I get home from work and let you know what I think. First impressions just seeing the case in my hands, it's not quite as nice a case as the Otterbox, but I'll report back once I put the phone in.
UPDATE: So I put the phone in the new case with the extended battery. The Otterbox is the only other case I've used on my Note 3, so that's all I have to compare the Zerolemon with. It's not much thicker than the Otterbox, though the Otterbox Defender does seem to offer a bit more protection: The rubber outside of the Zerolemon is a bit harder than the rubber on the Otterbox; it just seems like the Otterbox would absorb an impact a bit better than the Zerolemon. The flaps are a bit difficult to open as well, since they're just thin flaps instead of thicker plugs like the Otterbox. And there's a flap over the S-Pen!! Some people might like that, but I don't. That flap also covers the speaker, but there is a slit in the flap and volume is surprisingly not affected. I just find that flap unnecessary and it can really be in the way if you use the pen a lot. The battery came with about a 50% charge (that will probably vary from order to order), but it says to fully charge it right away anyway. As I only just started using the case and battery, I can't comment on the life of the extended battery.
That said, I'd be willing to put up with the annoying flaps and slightly less protection to get the extended battery, but I will be returning the case, as it is unusable for me: The hole for the headphone jack is too small, and will only take the narrow-body plugs, usually found on earbuds or cheaper headphones. The problem is that the hole in the case is a rectangle; round peg, square hole. My headphones have a full size body on the plug, so they just don't fit. I mean the part that you hold as you plug in the headphones, directly above the plug that actually goes in. Very disappointing since a round hole for a round plug just makes sense and the case is otherwise well-designed. I was really looking forward to the extended battery, but the headphones issue is a deal-breaker.

Ran into the same problem with the headphone jack opening being to small. I ended up buying a really short extension with a smaller collar that fit the opening. Love the case and battery. Also purchased the MIME Feather tempered glass and replaced the plastic protector that came with the case.

Flip Wallet Cases
I'm particularly fond of the look and usage of the flip cases myself (not that I've actually had one for myself. Mine are on their way from China as we speak...). For all my other phones, I've had the bumper cases which are good (cause I'm a firm believer in protecting your tech investments) but I'm a girl. I have wristlets instead of wallets and the flip wallet cases does the job for me. Whatever works best to be honest. And, I strongly recommend getting multiple cases for different purposes.
I used this site >> galaxynote3case (google it please)<< which coincidentally I found cruising through this forum a few months ago.
I'll let you know how good the flip/wallet cases are when I finally get mine.
I asked for and was one of the ones picked to try out and review the RooCase Glacier Tough. I just got it today so I will be writing more as I use it but wanted to give some initial impressions and a couple of pictures. I didn't want this to become lost in the other thread but mods, if you feel this is redundant obviously you can move it.
I've used several cases since I've had the N6, I started with a Ringke hybrid, used an Urban Armor Maverick, a Ringke Max, a cheap TPU no-name case, and a Trident Aegis. Of all those the Max has been my favorite. I've written about the others in some other threads, just look up those names and there's a thread here about the case. I haven't seen any RooCase threads yet, other than the one started by RooCase themselves.
First, it is fairly easy to install, some others said it was tough but it's a lot like an Otterbox defender. You place the phone in the front part and then put those 2 pieces into the rear. It looks very good, especially if you have a skin on the back of the phone. I've used a defender before and my wife just recently used and returned one and this is MUCH better then the otterbox.
The screen is pretty easy to use, not like a naked screen but MUCH better than the defender my wife's iphone had for a little while. Also, I'm using it with an Intelliarmor screen protector which isn't ideal but I didn't want to take the intelliarmor off and it works well. The only slight issue is the home button needs a deliberate push.
Volume and power buttons are very easy to push, no issues there at all. When I first put the case on they didn't work and I thought WTF, but when I took it off I realized I'd put the phone in upside down! The buttons are well marked with a +, -, and PWR. One improvement I wish for is that they would be easy to distunguish with just touch, all 3 feel the same.
My only complaint initially is that the power and aux port covers are REALLY difficult to flip open. I've been using a Ringke Max case with port covers but those are easy to open and shut. These covers need something, more of a lip or something but as they are it's tough to pull them open. Possibly they will get easier with time. Another minor gripe/comparision is the Ringke covers actually plug into the ports, where these are just covers and don't actually push into the ports. Possibly less effective at keeping out dust?
Another minor thing is the back of case is flat while as we know the n6 back is very curved, so you lose some of that ergonomic feel. It's great if you lay the phone flat, it won't rock, but I wonder if it would be possible to build a max-protection case with a curved back?
I'll use this case every day for the next few weeks and will update after I've used it a while. This could possibly be a daily use case, it most definitely is the most protective case I've used yet so if that's important and you need an Otterbox Defender this seems to be your best bet.
I have to wait for my wife to get home so I can take some pictures with her phone, but until then here are some pictures of the case when first delivered:
Here are a couple pictures of the phone in the case and the link to it on amazon:

Adding to the op review
Like the op, I've also been using the ringke max. This review will be comparing it to the max, mainly because that's my daily driver. However, it's kinda of apples .vs oranges, maily because the Roo Case is offering extra protection, similar to the otterbox
On arrival, it's coming with an anti static bag.
Case came fully assembled with no instructions. Took me a minute to figure it out, might wanna consider adding some instructions, simply because I can see ppl harming the case while trying to disassemble it for the first time.
Once it's taken apart, assembly is easy. Fit is excellent. Phone feels very secure. Screen is as responsive as without the screen protector.
Unlike the op, to me, having a flat back is a blessing, so that's a +1 for me.
The from factor of the phone is too big to care about bulk, imo... but let's review. About twice as thick, but again, this case is about protection so that's fine with me... If you are using skinny jeans with the n6 0.o this might be a bit too bulky for you
USB and aux covers, like the op said, are very uncomfortable to use, unlike the ringke, these don't have the port build in, and are hard to open. Disappointing because of the fast charge, everyone are using it at least once a day
On the bright side, qi charging works great, tested with tylt and powerbot.
Still have to use it and see how the 5H screen protector is holding up (plastic)
Pro-
Total protection. Great fit
Flat back
Buttons are very responsive
qi charging works

Thanks for the review kingston73 and lioryte!
@Roocase
What are the differences between the Glacier Tough and the Versa Tough?
Just the clear back? Or is the Glacier a new design?
I'm most interested in maximum protection.
Versa Tough:

The glacier gives you some stupid serious protection, I'm not going to try it but I feel like I could throw it against the wall and it would be fine.

The Glacier Tough has clear acrylic PC, which offers protection and gives you ability to show off your phones behind. Though VersaTough on the other hand is built with Tough Polycarbonate for the back, plus has a slightly beveled inside design and exterior protection lattice which can also add enhanced shock absorption.
If you are looking for the utmost protection, the VERSATough is the way to go.
If you are looking for something that still has amazing protection, yet sports a clear back design, Glacier Tough.
Sold. Thanks for quick reply @Roocase - getting the Versa Tough now.
Thanks for your great review and pics OP - I was really on the fence between the Max, Aegis, or Ballistic until I read this thread.
Edit: Realized that my low post count and brown nosing reply probably makes it look like I'm a Roocase shill, but I''m not Been a member since 2010 when I got my DroidX , then Gnex, etc etc.
either of these come with a holster?
No holster, the first picture is exactly what came in the mail. I personally hate holsters but that's just me.
Just a quickquick couple day update, I've been carrying out around in my pocket and no noticeable scratches front or back yet. The ports covers still annoy me, I'm really considering cutting them off but I'm not sure I want to do that just yet.
You definitely need to take any screen protector of of you want to use this, it was causing mine to lift in the sides so just I removed it. Makes it easier to use.
Also, i unintentionally dropped it from about waist height onto concrete and nothing at all happened, not even aa mark on the case.
Updated a week after review:
While I love the added protection, I will probably revert Beck to the ringke max.
Cons:
1. The port covers, are really really annoying. Every time I try to open the USB it's a 20 sec struggle.
2. The build on screen protector. Since the n6 is kinda water immune, I don't care to use it in the rain. I've found out that water get in between the screen and screen protector. To dry, you need to take the case apart. It's a pain to take apart.
3. Buttons. I'm using a kernel with tap/gesture to wake. Haven't used the power button so much. Today I needed to take a few screenshots so I needed to use it. There's a gap with the button, so when I press it it's a hit or miss, ours like pressing nothing until it hits the button, the screen will turn off in about 50% of the time.
Pros-
Safe. This thing feels like a tank. Feels really good. Bulk ain't matters to me.
Clear screensaver/ back is holding out nice, no screeches.
Still love that the back is flat
Overall, from what I've been reading, looks like the main complain for this case are the USB covers. Universal and unanimous. I didn't pay attention to the buttons complains, (need to apologize), because they seemed to be OK and I don't use them with tap to wake.
The water under the screen perfectly might be a unique issue, but the difficulty of taking the case off is also a repeat complaint.
Overall, I find that the added protection this case us providing is awesome, but the issues are a deal breaker for me.
Thank you @Roocase for the chance to test your product
We want to thank kinston73 and lioryte for the feedback they are providing us. Each bit of praise and criticism helps to guide our development of cases.
Your mentions of the port covers have us looking at that feature again and we are trying to brainstorm some ways to improve our design. Thanks for pointing out other examples of port covers you preferred. If anyone else has examples of port covers they found work really well, let us know.
The screen protector is meant to be a value added feature so that you don’t need to add a separate one. We realize some will like this and others won’t, but we thought it was a pretty neat thing to have built in. We will continue to experiment with other film materials to provide a better experience. We’ve even considered whether we could integrate a built-in tempered glass screen protector. What do you guys think of that? If we could make built in tempered glass work, would you be interested?
Buttons are always a work in progress, trying to find that perfect balance between too stiff and too loose, sticking out too much or not enough making them hard to feel and so forth. The more we hear back about this from customer reviews, the more we will tweak it to the best middle ground.
We’ll continue reading this thread, so if anybody has and questions or comments, we’re listening.

If you could get a good tempered glass screen protector into something like the Roocase Glacier Tough I would buy it in a heartbeat!
I like the look, and I'd definitely love to own one. I'm not even sure that the port covers would be that big of an issue for me (coming from a LifeProof iPhone case, they look pretty similar based on the Amazon pictures). My current case is ok, but I'm one who is constantly looking for a bit more protection.

I second the tempered glass in the case. If there is no halo, a tempered glass case would be the ultimate protection!
I actually like the current screen protector, it's better than the otterbox and on par with the catalyst for the iphone. For the above poster, I've used my wife's lifeproof frequently and the port covers on the roocase aren't in any way similar to the lifeproof. Lifeproof is a hinge, these are just rubber flaps. After 2 weeks of use those flaps are my only complaint. I have been hoping they'd loosen up but they are still a PITA.
If Roocase could manage to integrate a glass screen protector they would be much, much better than any other rugged case for the N6, that would be a great idea IMO.
I think having a built in tempered glass screen protector would blow away the competition hands down no questions asked, especially with the curved screen technology these days.
Is it possible to remove the screen protector film?
Hey Mulderato,
The screen protector technically can be removed however we do not recommend it as it would void the warranty on the product.

A case needs a warranty? If not abused, I've never seen a case spontaneously break. Especially a heavy duty case like that. I say go ahead and remove the built in protector, you won't need the warranty.
I just hate anything other than a naked screen but really wanted the drop protection, added grip of the sides and the clear flat back to show off the skin. Ordered two!
