Is anyone else thinking about returning their DNA and getting the Note 2 instead? I love the form factor of the DNA but the battery life and no MicroSD slot are killing me..
Why did you get it in the first place? Just curious..

I'm battling with the idea. I have 7 days left in my return period....but besides the phone, I'd also have to return 2 Wireless Chargers and quite frankly-I love the convenience of having the Wireless Charging Ability. I have one charger on my nightstand and one on my desk at work. I also played around the the camera a bit more and actually fell in love with the photo quality, beats my SGS3 handsdown and from what I understand the Note2 has the same camera as the SGS3. It also seems that I have a stronger signal with the DNA, and calls are much clearer.....may just bite the bullet and keep the DNA, wait for the Note 2 to be out for a few weeks and simply add it as an extra line and just swap the SIM out, and pawn the DNA off to a family member. One definite plus for the DNA-will work in Europe when I visit my family. I've not yet seen anything that states that the Note2 will work abroad without tinkering or having to Unlock it.
I definitely wouldn't.. in my opinion the DNA is superior in every regard. I've never liked Samsung's cheap build quality, nor could I live without Sense. The lack of an SD card is a bit of a bummer, but I realized I hardly ever store anything on my phone anyway, aside from the pictures from the camera and the occasional song or two. As far as battery life, mine has been stellar. Half an hour of web browsing uses maybe around 5% battery for me on 4G LTE, whereas on my Rezound half an hour of web browsing would use at least 15-20%, not to mention it'd turn into a portable handwarmer.. I'm extremely pleased with my battery life on my DNA thus far though.
Ultimately it's your decision, but my opinion is to not do it.

I've had the thought of returning this for the note 2 mainly because of touchwiz features. I can't say anything bad about the phone except for it lacking features. The phone is great and has a great build also I think it fits better in the hand than the note 2. As far as the note 2 it's S pen is convenient and the pop up browser without leaving the app is great, etc. One thing that bugs me about this phone and Sense is when I take a screenshot I can't share it from the notification pulldown via text. Is it just me?

It was the phone I was waiting for, as all the rumors made it seem fantastic. The only real complaints I have is that I need to be careful what I do on my phone if I want it to last all day, I can't surf the web for hours and watch YouTube if I won't be able to charge it before the night. I bought a 64GB MicroSD card to use on my Thunderbolt, so now that card is just sitting collecting dust, and with a display like this it would be useful to have several HD videos on it. The USB port cover is annoying, I'm thinking about just ripping it out. Lastly the camera isn't as good as I thought, and most people tend to favor the quality of the Note 2 instead.

Wireless charging is neat, but personally I would prefer to just stick with direct charging. The phone gets very warm when charging wirelessly, which will probably lead to shortened battery life. With the small battery, it will also need to be charged more frequently, and since it's non-removable who knows what the battery life will be like after hundreds of charging cycles a year from now.

Loving it, but ...
I really love the phone. The Note 2 is way too big for my taste, so that's a non-starter. The battery life is surprisingly great for me. I'd call myself a moderate user and I'm getting through a day with no problem. I have also been surprised that storage hasn't become an issue yet. I'm coming from an original HTC Incredible (running CM9) and I was constantly getting low memory warnings (with 8GB internal and a 16GB sd card). I don't store or watch movies on my phone, but I do store a bunch of mp3s from Google Music offline for listening while I'm skiing or running. The feel in hand is great for me, though I wouldn't mind if it was just a bit heavier.
I am still on the fence though. My main concern is that an equally awesome phone will come out in the next few months (perhaps at CES) with a bigger/removable battery and an sd card slot. I'm also oddly concerned that HTC is not promoting the DNA on their site, when everyone was calling it their new flagship device, and there are hardly any accessories available for it. HTC's home page has been featuring the Windows Phone 8x for a week (I'm guessing Microsoft is subsidizing that). Bestskinsever doesn't have it in their system and Zagg only recently has it listed, but with "coming soon". Makes me fear this phone is going to get glossed over quickly.
I'm also really missing CM and the current root method is a little too involved for me and we don't have s-off yet (I'm not complaining here, I definitely appreciate all the devs who are working on it!). I've got about a week left on my return window and am still not sure if I'm going to stick with it.

I kept my Thunderbolt for 20 months (surprising, I know, lol), but I have a feeling if I do keep the DNA I'll end up buying a new phone in the spring/summer when the GS4 and others come out.
If you want bigger screen, very excellent battery life, micro sd card, and you like the added functionalities of the s-pen, then I would say go for note 2. If you care more about 1080p display of the DNA, think 5.5" screen is too much, prefer the better quality build of the DNA, then don't. Also if you care about custom kernals and Roms, then it goes without saying note 2 has the edge on that department.
Basically it's a trade off either way. See which things you prefer the most, and that would answer your question.

Nothing like going to a larger screen + lower resolution.
If I wanted a tablet, I'd grab my N7. I don't want to look like a douche with a phablet to my ear.

I was basing that on recent history (Samsung phones have generally been more supported on that regard that HTC phones) and based on availability of the phone. Note 2 is much more available to people around the world and the US (avaliable on all carriers in the US). Already more than 5 million units were sold and it's been out for two months only. Developers usually support popular phones more than less popular ones. But hey I could be wrong, I'm more wrong that right most of the time. Let's wait and see the situation 5 months from now.

Back story:
I'm used to only having only a few/a small amount of choices for roms. My first Android phone was an LG Ally which had only 2 or 3 major devs. Then I moved to a Droid 2 which has a medium size amount of devs specifically for the Droid 2 and it benefited from anything that the Droid X had. Still, there are only a around 20ish roms total, alot of them being CM/AOSP based. Then I got a Kindle Fire, and still, there aren't a ton of roms, maybe 10ish good ones(Once again, most are CM/AOSP based, so they're pretty close). One thing i've noticed about many of the HTC phones is that there are a ton of roms to choose from. I've tried out a few already, but I haven't found one that I feel quite right with.
Tl;dr:
What rom do you feel is the best, and for what reasons?
I would like something with Sense, and preferably ICS, but i'm not against GB. What rom has a good mix of battery life and performance?
Second question:
I've mainly been trying out the Sense 4 roms, but battery life has been horrible. After an hour of just playing music I was at 50%. Is this a Sense 4 issue? An ICS issue? Or is it GB too?
Also, I don't have service, so it's not like the 4g or 3g was eating up the battery.
Third question:
Any way to get rid of the huge, ugly "No SIM" thing on the lockscreen without getting a SIM card?
Fourth question:
Any tweaks/mods/tools that you consider musts, or ones that are little known?
Nevermind, I should have searched this first, found some info lol.
**Ignore**Also, why does the Rezound have such a weird charge port?

Thanks. I actually got it offa eBay and they didn't send a cord with it, so at first I was like "Now I have to go and buy a cord and wait for that too" then I decided to try one of the micro usb cables I had and was surprised that it worked
Also, you think your internet is slow?

Haha, we have the fastest internet available to us too. Only Verizon has lines in our apartment complex, and the owners won't let anyone else lay down lines and they won't let Verizon put FIOS lines in. We only have 3 choices, 3mbps, 1.5mbps, or dial up lol. And one of the tech guys at Verizon said that most people don't get their max speed and we're lucky that we do.
1.8 max is crazy lol.
Anywho, back on topic. xD
Figured i post here instead of making another thread
I just got my rezound off ebay. Pulled off back cover and found crumpled up tinfoil on the top left corner... is this some wifi hack? Or is this a known jerry rig fix for something broken?
I am probably going to remove it.

Hello people of XDA,
I currently have the HTC Thunderbolt and i absolutely love it. I have had it since release day and never had any problems with it. Since about December 2011 i've been playing the waiting game on when ICS will be released for the tbolt. The devs keep saying we will have it by next month, every month. Im starting to get tired of waiting so i was thinking of switching my phone since i have had my contract due for quite a while now. Ive been looking at the Droid Incredible 4G LTE for a while and love everything about it, i probably would have had it by now except i've got ONE problem, THE SCREEN IS ONLY 4". I know for a lot of people this is not a big deal and the phone is still awesome no matter what the screen size is but, why couldn't HTC just release us with this phone as a 4.7" screen instead like the new EVO. So I would like to know what you guys think about the phone. Is it worth the smaller screen and I should just get the phone or should I wait a little longer and see if HTC surprises Verizon with a stunning 4.7" screen phone of holiness?
I'm going to repost something i wrote last week in the general thread about this very thing, except about the Droid X to an Inc4
I got mine yesterday and unfortunately it has a hardware defect in the prox sensor, so I'm getting a replacement delivered to my door sat morning, go verizon!
However that sensor issue only affects phone usage while in a call so I've been playing with it quite a bit. I don't know how many people are coming from an much older device like me but i thought I'd share my exp so far.
I'm coming from a Droid X with Liberty flashed.
First impression was whoa this phone is small compared to the X. But as soon as i turned it on and started playing with it, the screen was so beautiful it didn't matter. The Inc screen is .3 inch's smaller but because of the higher resolution you actually gain screen real estate. The best part about the size though is my hip case is .5 inchs smaller, which doesn't sound like a lot but trust me it is!
Call quality is much better than my X as well. Perhaps it's just because the speaker on the X is 2 years old now but people sound much clearer to me on the Inc.
I haven't really had a chance to mess with the 4g data as i was on wifi when i setup my accounts. I will certainly play with that more when my new one shows up tomorrow.
The OS is extremely snappy, i haven't had a single hitch yet. I think i'd still prefer a AOSP rom once they come out but so far i love Sense 100 times more than Blur and will be happy to run it for the time being.
Last but not least, unlocking and rooting this thing was extremely simple, thanks most in part to our excellent devs. I remember working on my X for an hour before i was ready to install a custom rom. Granted i was brand new to the scene, but getting custom recovery on the Inc just felt easier.
I'm extremely excited to start using this thing full time starting tomorrow!

Now that I've gotten to use it for almost a full week now I'm that much more glad i got one. I looked at the specs and the thunderbolt screen is the same size as the Droid X with an ever so slight reduction in resolution. I personally haven't noticed any difference with the screen size. In fact everything is so much more clear and crisp.
The 4g data is great as long as your in an area that supports it, although i'm on wifi 90% of the time. 4g is a little spotty around my house (most of the time 2 to 3 bars, i've seen it swap to 3g twice), but where i work it's full bars, and quite fast. Surfing the web vs my X is much quicker now.
As far as the speed of the phone it's like night and day from the X. I always felt the X wasn't as usable until i threw a custom rom on it. That made an amazing difference for me, and now using the Inc4 i get the feeling again and this is with a stock rom! I can only imagine how fast this thing will be once i finally pick a custom to stick with.
My reason for getting an Inc4 is a little different from yours. It was forced on me because my X's charge port is starting to die. I thought i'd be sad to see it go, but honestly once i got the Inc4, i couldn't go back

Wow u made this phone sound incredible, i think im going to check it out tomorrow and possibly buy it. I was waiting to see how the new iphone would turn out or if HTC releases anything new but i really dont care any more, this phone is stunning, although the lack of screen size it doesn't really bother me since once i get it i will probably forget that i even had a problem with the phone in general to begin with. Do u have any case recommendations for this phone and do u think the battery life is good or I should get an extended battery?
another question, tbh im only 14, do u think they would let me go in and buy it by myself if i have the money with me and i know all the information needed?????
So far the battery life has been quite good for my usage. I'd say it's on par with my X for the most part, although my X had a extended battery. I have yet to get an extended for the Inc4, but i don't know that i'll need to.
As far as being 14, i don't know, do you look 14? I'd say if your authorized on the account, and no one asks any questions there's no need to tell them your 14. It's not dishonest, your just not offering any extra info!
Then again i handle my company's business account so i deal with everything over the phone, i've stepped foot into a verizon store maybe once. Someone else might have better insight.
For cases I've never done the full body things like otterbox's or anything. I just use the standard leather hip pouchs, and a screen protector on the phone itself. Given i'm a sysadmin and sit on my ass 95% of the time it works for me

well thanks for all ur support and help :good:
Hey guys,
Hoping to get some feedback from former HTC Rezound owners who are now onto the S4 (seen a few in this forum).
I'm strongly considering turning to the S4 as my next phone after 3 straight HTC phones. I see that Verizon officially announced the One coming, but with HTC company in disarray, lack of updates on all my HTC phones, and only a 4mp camera (ultra pixel or not, it's not going to be enough for pix you need to crop), and no removable battery or sd card slot, I'm close to jumping over. I've rooted all my phones, but kinda sick of being a guinea pig with half working stuff on ROM's that wasn't supposed to be on my phone anyways, and constant issues, etc just to get close to the latest OS.
With the S4, wondering about comparison in signal strength (4G) that you've seen (just as strong, weaker, etc), GPS lock time, camera (speed and quality of pix), overall speed of the phone (opening apps, mail, etc), and comparative lag, etc.
I'm more interested in a 32gb model if it ever comes to Verizon, so I'm trying to hold out a little longer before making my move, but any input on comparing the 2 phones would be helpful in solidifying my decision! (wife has the S3 by the way, and it's pretty nice, although she has Sprint and never gets 4G)...
Yo, I'll fill you in and answer as much as I can. Just got my s4 last week, had the rezound for about 1.5 yrs. Awesome phone, like it, still like it, was kinda hard to switch. I even left the store without buying the S4, but went back the next day. Glad I did.
I ran the rez stock for a while, but for some time ran the roms by Neo. Mostly rage, but switched to Infection towards the end. This phone has been great for me so far.
-signal strength to me seems a little better for 4g, not major
- wifi is better for sure. Rez wasn't bad but you needed the back cover and maybe it degraded over time???
-GPS seems fine for me, but never had issues with Rez
-camera is fine for me, seems fast enough, good pics too
-I find phone super fast, faster than Rez was, I don't notice any lag. But I never had major issues with that on the Rez tho
For me, it was a slightly tough upgrade, but I'm happy. Biggest for me has been battery life. I had to charge my Rez every 24hrs, this things lasts me at least 2 days.
So far, all I have done is root with TWRP, and froze all the bloat. I haven't flashed any different roms (TW or other). Wanting to see what it is like close to stock for a bit first.
Been very happy with my decision. Would do again, would recommend.
Hope that helps.

I went form Rezound to S3 and now S4. I do not think you will be disappointed if you get an s4. The phone is superior in every way. My biggest gripe is that touchwiz is extremely ugly!! I use custom roms and themes so that does not really bother me too much. You will also notice that development here will be better than the Rezound. I was going to wait for the HTC One but the state of the company really scares me. I also like having the ability to expand storage. Hope this helps.

Very helpful - thanks! It's great to see good posts on the S4, but you don't know what kind of phone folks are coming from, so wanted to get a better perspective. Thanks.

I agree with the look not being totally appealing too. I'd probably do the same thing with a theme or shell (just saw a good review of the Yandex shell 3d launcher) as long as it doesn't lag or mess up the phone. Thanks.
Not sure I can add anything to what's already been said but I just made the jump from Rezound to S4 and I'm very happy. I was concerned with the transition to TouchWiz as I've used previous iterations on family members' phones and didn't like it. Sense was superior in nearly every way but to be honest, it could be worse and I'm getting used to it. I considered another HTC phone (DNA or One) but hated the idea of no SD card option and a non-removable battery. Speaking of battery, I don't think HTC is capable of manufacturing a phone with decent battery life.
Speed on the S4 is excellent though I've noticed some odd lag in the Google Maps app. I enabled developer menu and disabled all of the animations so that's helped. The Rezound was fast enough for me and if I had to go back to it, I don't think it would be an issue. Signal strength and quality are as good for me as with the Rezound. I was running VipreRez and had odd issues with WIFI whereby I had to disable/enable it now and then to stay connected...not an issue with the S4. GPS lock is very quick but I had no problems with the Rez. I don't use the camera much so I can't comment on that except to say that some of the camera modes on the S4 are pretty neat (possibly gimmicky).
The single largest difference is battery life and it's a MASSIVE difference. I could not make it through a day with the Rez if I used navigation, wireless tether or spent too much time talking. I use my phone only for business (no games) so for me it's phone calls, text, e-mail and a minor amount of navigation. I was constantly powering the phone from the car and plugging it in immediately upon returning home. The S4 has amazing battery life. I've easily made it 17+ hours with nearly 3 hours of screen on time, navigation and WIFI tether and been at or just below 30% at the end of the day.
The only issues I've had with the S4 have been adjusting to the size of the phone and lack of a search button. I have a difficult time reaching across the screen with one hand but I think I'll live with it. I used to press search and immediately type a client's name and get to them quickly. Now it takes an extra step or two but not a huge issue. Also, I miss the Sense clock..heh. I realize there are apps that emulate that clock but it was amazing. I thought the screen on the Rez was fantastic but the 5" screen on the S4 is truly amazing.
One last thing to mention. I always felt like the Rezound was the red-headed step-child of HTC phones. Not much dev support and accessories were difficult to come by. The S4 is a complete 180 from that due to the pervasive nature of the distribution. I expect loads of development and accessories for this phone.
Former Rezound user here too. I totally agreed with everything everyone has said. I did notice GPS , Wifi and 4G were a little better. I wasn't really nervous about TW . I actually like TW. Battery life is great as previously mentioned . Love the phone so far.
I went from the Rez to the S3 tp the S4. I really liked the build quality of the Rez. When I sold mine, it was like selling a child.
Wifi is awesome in comparison. 4G averages 25% higher in my tests. I guess it's just more consistent. Battery life is WAY better. I always had to have an extended battery on it. My S4 lasts me a whole day off intense use. I work IT and I'm on my phone all day. Development will be much better. Let's not even mention the screen comparison.
All in all, the upgrade is amazing. Worth every penny.

Former Rezounder and I just got the S4 today. I'm so excited to have this phone and I'm very happy to hear all the good remarks from this thread. I expected to see that there is more development for this phone compared to the Rezound. I agree that it was the red headed step child too lol. Anyways I'm gonna get started on rooting
Get the s4. You will leave terrible battery life, heat, and poor development behind. You won't regret it. I don't miss my rez that much

I had the Rezound. After Google I/O and not hearing anything about the Moto X phone I decided to jump on the S4 bandwagon. I had my Rez for a little over a year. It was an okay phone, hated the battery life, even got the extended battery and always got weird looks for how big my phone was. But I've gotta commend developers like Neo or Chad for bringing us 4.2 to the Rez. For me the standout points with the S4 are battery life, the camera and very very smooth UI. I'm excited to see what the future brings, development is explosive with the bootloader being unlocked now. I really want to like the HTC One but I need HTC to show better support for their phones, there was no excuse for the Rezound to not have 4.1 by now, even the Droid Bionic has it!
Rezound to S4 and the very first thing I notice was how freaking light it was I even told the verizon rep if he put the battery in LOL but after the initial shock the phone is so good, the only thing I noticed was the lack of CDMA support unless I am missing something here but if you not in a 4g area you get a lot of dropped calls unless being on Global has something to do with it.
Great feedback guys! exactly what I was hoping to hear.Think I'm sold on getting the S4.
Already talked to a Verizon store rep about options to upgrade early without paying full retail and losing unlimited (Verizon really stinks about these new policies), but may wait a few more weeks to see if a 32gb version of the S4 will actually come to vzw or not...
I too had a Rezound and it's been passed down to my mother.. The Rezound is choppy and slow these days.. Still has a great screen though in my opinion.. the S4 is a no brainer to switch to.

What's the big gripe and deal with needing 32gb internal storage? I'm sure pretty soon we're going to have working apps2sd and it's not an issue anymore. . It's also one of the reasons Vzw was able to sell it 199 on contract still.

I was in the same boat as hpower1. I must have made 3 trips to the store to look at the S4. I went to a Corp store so I could buy it outright and put it on a 12 month payment plan. Didn't want to lose my unlimited plan. My wife and I only use about 1GB +/- per month but the "what if" factor kicked in. It helped sell me when I was on the phone with 611 and they told me that it wouldn't affect my upgrade. So if something else comes out in a year or so and we are not using over 2 or 4 GB per month that I could still my upgrade. They offered to buy back the Rezound but I declined. I moved it to another line to replace a D1. This thing (S4) is awesome. Light, fast, big screen. I put it in an OtterBox Defender case to help protect it. Makes it so much easier to hold. This is simply a GREAT phone. I got it last Friday night and couldn't take it any longer so Monday morning I rooted it just so I could disable some of the bloat and flash a mod that I wanted. Get it, you won't regret it. Also like others have said, the battery life is great but I have to admit that the Rezound got much better after flashing XenonHD and is still a great phone.
Oh, and I also installed a 64Gb card in it that I got off of Amazon.
Had my rezound for 1.5 years and it was definitely an above average phone with limited support from verizon and developers.
Although the developers that were there (Cleanrom) were terrific.
I had the incredible before the rezound so, like you, was contemplating waiting for the One.
I need to use spare batteries so I didn't bother waiting
For me, personally, everything is better with the s4 EXCEPT 4g signal strength.
Just to clarify, when I have proper strength, which is most of the time, the speed is superior.
What I'm talking about came to light last night.
I went to my first yankee game since getting s4 (I go to 30 games a year) last night and I had sporadic service, at best.
Maybe there was something in the air but my rezound got much better signal and data was good.
Since everyone else is saying theres is better with the s4, I'm beginning to lean towards it being a bad night at the stadium.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know my experience.
The phone is awesome, support on the forums is great (I'm running cleanrom now, but have tried hyperdrive too and it was equally good), and you will be very happy.
On a side note, Yankees won and I got to see Mo close which is a treat that is quickly coming to an end

I rocked the rezound for awhile back when it came out and loved it! Probably one of my favorite android phones to use! The s4 is pretty nice I just say coming from a note 2 too but if Verizon does in fact release a HTC one with more 16 gb of storage I will get one and switch between it and s4 depending on how nice it is and stacks up against s4!

I won't give up my unlimited. It's sick how Verizon is gouging us lately and even pushing back upgrade dates - seriously Verizon?
I went to a Verizon store and the rep gave me some options how to keep unlimited whole still being able to upgrade a little early - something about adding a line and paying a little more per month. Gotta do what you gotta do I guess...

But if we don't get apps2sd it could be a problem in the future with 1/2 the 16gb internal clogged with OS, etc. Who knows how big some apps will be in the future, so don't want to get stuck with potential limited space. I'm sure its fine for now. It's also one of the main gripes I've read from professional reviews. Plus I'm just sick of having all my iPads, kindles, etc always running out of room and just don't want to deal with that potential issue at some point.
If I don't hear more about a 32gb soon, I'm sure I'll cave in before too long...
Hey, I have a Moto Bionic right now, and time has finally slowed it down. Considering buying the DNA off contract and I'd like to know the ups and downs of the phone. I have Google Streaming Service and unlimited Data, so I won't be bothered by the lack of SD expansion.
Is the non-removable battery a problem? Can the battery be replaced if you peel the phone apart? (like an iPhone)
How stable are the ROMS?
How is the sound quality? I don't like beats headphones, but I assume this phone had more attention focused on the DAC than my current phone.
Tell me the common gripes about this phone, if you don't mind, so I can decide if any are a deal breaker.
Thanks in advance!
Roms are stable the battery Idk if it can be replace but posible mabe. The batery life is pretty decent as long as you know what to do to save the battery when its not in use. the screen is great and recently got great with crpalmers kernal with the color fix or update where they took out a code.

Hey, I didn't specify but I won't be buying full priced but rather used. So financially, the One would be twice the price. Definitely an awesome phone, though.
Color fix noted, waiting to hear more about any quirks.
Get the phone. I came from a bionic as well. Its so much better of a phone.
I was going to wait for the One but decided to get the DNA now since the bootloader was unlocked. I am running the NOS rom which is Sense 5. The screen is great and for me the 5 inch screen may be the best screen size after going from Gnex>S3>Note2>RAZR Maxx>S3>DNA. I thought the battery would be th achilies heel, but its actually pretty good. My test is usually letting it sit overnight on wifi (its the constant I can do with any phone) and see how much battery is lost. In my case it was around 5-8% over a 8 or so hour night. <1% drain per hour is pretty good in my book. Also I got 2 nokia DT900 wireless plates, one for work and one for home. So I just set it down on the plate and pick it up with more battery.
I was at the point wondering if I should lose my unlimited and jump on the One this summer, pay full price for the One (didn't want to do that), or jump on a DNA, keep my unlimited and have the same Sense 5 experience.
The sound is pretty good, I just listen to podcasts but there is a difference between beats on an off, beats one the sound fuller. And this is over a BT headphones.
OK, are there any good ROMs that attempt a Nexus-like pure Android Experience?
I like Sense a lot, I would want to try both.
Anyone know if the battery can be changed so that when the fold gets older, it can be replaced?
Really if you just change out the launcher, you can get a mostly Nexus experience except for the notification pulldown, settings, and lock screen. But you still get the Beats and stuff. I believe there are some CM 10.1 roms for a pure AOSP experience. But I do think there are some Sense roms that allow you to customize to remove some Sense stuff. Look at the ROMs OP and see the options and screenshots.
I am not sure about the battery. But there was a company offering JTag S-Off before the bootloader unlocks that I think required a opening of the device. So I assume it can be done, not sure where you would source a new battery. But by the time the battery loses life maybe 1-2 years, you can buy a used DNA2 or One for cheap.

As everyone has mentioned the phone is phenomenal. I've been through the Droid X, Thunderbolt, Razr Maxx, and Gnex. The DNA blows every single one of them out of the water. Once you play around with your settings you can get nice battery life. My battery stats for today are 3:02:43 Screen on time 22% battery left after 16 hours. That's pretty stellar in my book. I just got Lux today which I need to play around with but I'm pretty sure I should be pushing 4-5 hours screen on time by the time I have everything said and done.
Definitely look into getting Tasker, Lux, and Greenify for your battery saving needs. I use tasker to control my wifi/4g data so that I automatically use WiFi wherever applicable and 4g at all other times. Lux is an auto-brightness tool of amazingness I just picked up, and Greenify hibernates your apps so they don't leech your battery in the background.
I think you'll fall in love with the phone if you decide to get it.

Yea I'd go with this then. Great phone. I'm from a nexus. I hate sense. I like aosp
The roms are great. Few bugs like certain Bluetooth scenarios and some audio things (can still play music and do basic functions, you probably won't notice) and you can use the htc google camera because some aosp roms ffc doesn't work

the only real down of the phone is that there's no micro sd slot. i know some people were worried about the battery life(myself included), but this phone's battery life is pretty decent considering the screen size. everything runs so smooth on it even on stock. additionally, the phone doesn't seem to ever overheat like every other 4g-lte phone i've owned. for instance, my last htc phone(rezound) used to overheat like crazy. it would be really bad when downloading a torrent via adownloader new... i'd have to occasionally put the phone in the freezer for 5 - 10 min to cool it down. this dna doesn't do that at all.
Is the bootloader on the DNA still unlockable? Say if I bought one brand new today, could I still unlock the bootloader? The most recent info I can find is from a thread that was locked quite awhile ago.

Droid DNA
We upgraded from Droid 3s to DNAs when Verizon offered them free a few weeks back. Improvements all around, including battery. My wife stays stock, I tinker, though I'm trying to keep it OTA updatable (for now). In addition to using Nova Launcher or similar, Holo Locker helps with the Nexus look.
Edit: FYI Best Buy just ran a commercial - DNAs free with two year contract.

I'd highly recommend Carbon Rom if you wanted a pure nexus experience. As for the phone itself it has a decent battery and a beautiful screen, but I must advise getting a good case as the screen is glass and will shatter if you drop it on a corner unfortunately I am speaking from experience.
I'm slated to get the G2 today according to Fedex, so I've been doing a ton of reading on custom ROMs and whatnot. It seems like there are a ton of users on XDA (along with other message boards) who are going from the Galaxy Nexus to the LG G2 (myself included).
It seems like everyone hates the GNex, which I'm confused about. Sure, it's not the latest phone, but it still runs circles around the majority of my friends pre-2013 flagship phones. The only problem I've seemed to have is the USB port breaking, but that was an easy fix.

I had a GNex and regretted it nearly from the start. Its release was delayed for so long that it felt like a previous-generation device at the time. Sure it was a first with NFC, by how many times have you really used NFC? I tried to transfer a photo once, and it failed with some error. I've never encountered another person who wanted to tap-and-share something. Ever. I think I used Google Wallet one time at a fast food joint and even then I had to fiddle with it to get it to work properly.
Don't get me started on the folks who want a stock Android experience and then proceed to load up Nova Launcher, ROM Toolbox, and all these other mods to make the thing look like Sense.
It's not hate but people locked in 2 years contracts. I am still torn between N5 nad G2 but my GNex is going to retire :crying:. I loved it but it's time for it to go.
Saying that I might actualy extend it's life. Some soft and it will turn into Madia Centre/smart TV, permanently atached to my TV

I came from a GNex as well and I think the biggest thing for me is the night and day difference between the battery life. I just accepted having to deal with multiple batteries and charging my GNex all the time but I didn't realize how much of a pain that was until I got my G2. For example, last night I forgot to put my G2 on the charger, which was after a moderate day of usage mind you, that of which my Nexus never would have been able to make through the whole day without charging in the first place. But this morning I still have over 50% charge on my G2 and will easily be able to make it the rest of the day without charging it, whereas my Nexus would have easily died over night and I would have been left without a charged phone this morning.
The second gripe I had with my GNex was the stock Android experience. It seems like all the hardcore Nexus users love stock Android and think it is the best thing since sliced bread, and I'll admit I was partly in that boat for a while. However, once I got my G2 and used LG's UI for the first time, I can honestly say that I don't think I'll ever go back to stock Android. I realize the LG UI isn't the best thing out there and I do have some minor gripes with it, but the stock UI is so dark, bland and dull in comparison. Also, it seems like stock Android is always playing catch up with the other Android variants that are out there by adding features that others have had built in for months (quick settings in notification bar is the first thing that comes to mind). The overall experience on any of the custom Android variants, let alone LG's UI, is just totally different, and way better than stock Android in my opinion.
I had a VZW GNex that is mostly serviceable, but battery power became a serious issue. I carried 2 spare batteries daily because the original battery couldn't hold up for 1/2 a day within 6 months of ownership, then the spares (Anker extended duo) that I picked up for ~$15 eventually started to lose capacity as well by the 1 year mark. Now that 2 years just rolled by, the "which battery did I forget to recharge last night" game has lost its amusement. Swappable batteries are nice, but basic battery life is more than essential.
I'd like stock android and/or nexus for my phone, but my 2013nexus7 is more than enough to fill that gap. VZW won't get the nexus 5, so the G2 is the closest I'll get for a while to those specs. With Nova all over the place, there's really not much difference anyway. I fully expect a 4.4 ROM to appear for the G2 that can keep all the custom goodies no matter how long VZW officially takes.
I'm coming from gnex also. As from first desire to gnex. Was a nice trip with many many problems. Loved both devices and I already love G2.

When you get your G2 and realize that you don't have to keep a charger in your pocket....you will understand. After that shock is over...you will then realize what a truly amazing phone this is
Reception is also an issue the GNex had. At work, my old GNex would drop to 3G all the time, often multiple times a day (the tower is only about half a mile away, too). Since I upgraded to the G2 back in September, I've seen that happen exactly one time.
And that's if you didn't get one of the many, many GNex units that had a faulty radio. Dropping signal at random was a huge problem for GNex owners, and many of them had to go through swaps -- sometimes more than once -- to get one that "worked".
I loved my GNex but couldnt deal with the terrible battery life any more.
I'm one of those people. I honestly loved my gnex. It was just time for an upgrade. And I agree that the optimus ui is refreshing. in the 5 years or so of owning an Android device. This is the first time used the stock home launcher the whole time. That alone shows how great this UI is. But for 2 year old phone the Galaxy Nexus was pretty awesome. Besides the battery and camera it runs circles around any phone released in that time frame

probably because of the awful battery life, the awful radios, the TERRIBLY AWFUL screen which was full of burn in, banding and a yellow tint and the awful camera.
