This is possible?!?!? - HTC Jetstream

If it is possible to get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean CM 10 running on a ANCIENT HTC G1 why not for our device? Here is a YouTube video proof it can be done! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Md9b6XbVtQ

dude. relax.
its possible but there's no one around at the moment to do it.
zarboz is our hope now, and we are all waiting patiently to see if and when he'll get a device. after that, he will probably look for testers.
meanwhile, take a deep breath.
its this forum dynamics...quiet most of the time - then a busy month, and back to quiet.

Sounds good, I just needed some reinforcement due to the fact I was one of the unfortunate ones who ended up paying full price for this device. Thanks for the response and its time to sit back and relax.

Regarding Guides 8/28

Unfortunately I'm moving away from the Photon, so will be discontinuing the guides. I'll poke my head in once and awhile and update any pertinent info. Time to pass on the torch...someone should begin another and request it stickied.
I enjoyed the MoPho...but one month after release it's way too quiet in here for me. I crave flashing goodness...and hear only crickets. I will be picking up the SGSII when it hits, and look forward to seeing some of you over there!
Thanks to Yay, Edgan, Kenneth, DCour, Baller, Mikey and others that have taken a stab at this great phone!
Good luck on your next phone. For me I am pretty pleased with how well this phone works stock. The two things I wanted in particular (root and webtop) were achieved amazingly quickly. While I look forward to a sexy fast custom rom with all the bells and whistles (and rock solid stability). I can wait for that, I am more then satisfied that the Photon has lived up to the hype. It's the first time a smart phone has done that for me.

Yeah today was last day of 30 days...so I cancelled the line, started a new one with a Nexus S on it, and will swap for the SGSII when it comes along (rumor is 9/9/2011).
Thanks for the kind words DJ!!

You know that you are allowed to switch it out 3 times which resets your 30 days every time right? guess its too late now but yes you are allowed to do that. That's what I did. they just swap you out a new photon and reset your 30 days. lol I loved it. Does help to have a good guy at sprint to deal with also
But like I said bud, good luck and you are very welcome.
I may do the same thing. I have my girl and her mom on my account I may just give my girl the Photon and use her mom's upgrade on the SGSII. Will see how it goes first though. Really like the Photon, it has a **** ton of potential! Really too bad Motorola can't get their head out of their ass and realize that's what keeps a majority of us around.
Take care o/

This is rather disappointing. It's only quiet in here because the phone is still so young, bootloader was only recently unlocked. As soon as all the hardcore HTC fans start to realize this phone blows both Evo's out of the water, this place will be booming. Even if not, we have some very talented developers making feature rich stable roms. I was a flashaholic as well, but especially on phones such as the Evo well over half of the roms are just plain rubbish and aren't worth flashing. I'd hate to see that happen to the Photon and then deal with all of the people complaining that the phone doesn't work when they just loaded up half-functional software ripped from quality roms by a 12 year old.
Either way, hopefully you'll come back to this phone when we learn what major flaw the latest/greatest Samsung has. I gave up on them after all of their Android devices had major recurring defects, ones that I still see today in my tech centers. Moment/Intercept/Transform had way too little internal memory and the processor wore out quickly. Epic/Captivate/Vibrant all had borked GPS and suffered from random locking up/reboots. Nexus S 4G has terrible signal quality and terrible battery life. Replenish has been their worst yet, charging port shorts out causing it to say it's charging when it isn't and has gotten so hot that I've actually seen them brought in with melted LCD panels and it burnt the customer upon picking it up. I don't know how Samsung has avoided a lawsuit on that one. As for myself, I will not be picking up another Samsung device regardless of how amazing the specs look on paper. They can't seem to get their products fully functional.

I agree completely. I was just looking at the SGS2 reviews and whatnot for the last hour or so. I honestly think the photon already has beat it. I remember my first Samsung phone from ATT, I forget what it was even called actually. I'm sure I could look it up but it was like almost a smartphone. I mean it was, but there was no market or anything and it was just what it was.
I will be staying here unless there is just no action moving forward. But I don't see that happening because like you said this is a great phone and we have only begun to unlock the powers it has, I cannot wait to see numbers when we have a proper kernel source and a proper kernel made for us. Stock my phone has hit over 2500 in Quadrant and I know other people have gotten higher. In Linpack it is hitting higher than some of the highest numbers ever recorded for linpack. So I really can't wait to see what this thing has when it is fully unleashed! It still is just the beginning.

Is anyone else getting tired of waiting for ICS?

Why couldn't they release Alphas? I'd be fine with spotty wi-fi and no video.
And now everything is apparently done including video yet still no release? GUYS, stop being such perfectionists, release alphas/betas. WHATEVER. Just get something out so we won't have to use a phone OS on our tablets anymore. PLEASE.

Oh please, the ROM has been ready for weeks now.
I'm sure all of us here have flashed ROMs on our phones/tablets that were spotty and were perfectly fine with them because we knew they were just Alphas/Betas and even in that state they were far better than what we had before.
Patience, young padawan. Good things come to those who wait.
Lets see here we get to install Android on our devices for free and the ROMs are all developed by volunteers. Be grateful that we have a stable Gingerbread port, we will get ICS when its ready. If you want to speed things up get involved with the port or donate towards it.
Can't believe I am even going to enter this thread and reply - but I'd rather wait till they are happy with it and how it will perform than to get some half-cocked ROM released just to shut people up.
If they released it as it is now... people would just start complaining about what they already know doesn't work... EXAMPLE: how many times do people bring up WIFI and sound distortion in regards to the current ROMs?! Everyone knows it's a problem, yet the posts/threads just keep coming.
Let them polish it and enjoy what you have now. It WILL come, but you will appreciate it a lot I promise you when it's released if they take the time to internally test it and feel confident they have done all they can before the first release is placed in user's hands. Another thread about this really isn't going to change anything.
Personally I'd rather the mods just remove these threads that pop up or consolidate them somewhere - so people can easily find the threads that will help them to solve their problems.
Not trying to bait you - I promise - and you are entitled to your opinion, but relax man - it's all going to be ok - I promise! :-D
I too am anxious to get ICS on my touchpad and I do agree that I would have liked to see a beta or an alpha to test it out, but I don't think this is the way to go about asking for it...although I dont know that there is a good way to ask for it, in any case I get where your coming from
Well there is the PreludeDrew Evervolv ICS ROM that just released, you can try that out if your that impatient...
For me, I've tweaked CM7 so much that it doesn't look or feel the same anymore. So basicly i've 'tweaked' it to my taste, and i'm lovin it!
I think the reason why they won't release an alpha or beta, is that people are still trying or getting into CM7. And for a person who is comfortable with CM7, why upgrade to a more buggier OS and nothing works?
EndlessMike, no one owes you a thing. You didn't buy your touchpad from them, aren't paying them to develop or use roms, they didn't promise you a release and didn't imply that you'll get anything...ever.
If you want ICS, buy a Xoom. Better yet, take the time out to learn how to code and develop roms and do it yourself instead of wasting your life away hoping someone will spoon-feed you. Stop complaining.

If you think this wait for a free product is bad, try waiting for Samsung, HTC, Motorola etc to release their ICS update for products people PAID for. The lucky ones are going to have to wait months. The unlucky ones don't even get an update at all.
Considering that that the Touchpad was never even meant to be an Android device in the first place and when most of us bought it, Android for the Touchpad didn't even exist, I'm quite happy with what we currently have and what we will be getting whenever we get it. It's far more than I ever expected and I very much am thankful to the developers for it.

I can't imagine anything more tedious for a Developer than a perfect ROM, especially when the community requests a taste and later demands perfection.
dis thread is ignant, yo.
You guys are late. I stopped checking for it 2 months ago. It'll come out when it comes out.
It saddens and sickens me to see such threads being made. The ungratefulness being shown to the developers is just sickening; and for some reason, it is worse on this forum than on others.
Rather than be excited and respectful, this entire community is degenerating into a group of whiny, self absorbed group who think that the devs live to serv them, and should bow to their whim.
What i wouldn't give to be able to close this trash myself..

Next OS after ICS & associated HTC phones: How far away now adays?

Hi everyone,
This is admittedly a futuristic question and a loaded one:
How often do things like this occur in the smartphone technological world?
I ask because after this Google push for new technology (3 buttons rather than 4) and the associated software changes in lieu of new technology, I'm not willing to keep on shelling out money with great frequency for obvious reasons even though I love my HTC: solidly built with fluid ui and Gingerbread OS.
Thanks

Jelly Bean is not going to be a big upgrade from ICS...They were planning on ICS even before honeycomb came out. my guess is jelly bean will be out by the mid to end of this year probably, atleast on the flagship google phones.
ya google usually pushes a new os out by the end of every year, like gingerbread and ics, whether it'll b a big update is all in the hands of google lol

I'm waiting for Krispy Kreme OS.
But I would say that we should start seeing leaks of JB around October if not a little sooner. I'm just wondering how many updates the Amaze will get before we lose support. It seems like each device gets just one major update in it's lifespan before it ends up in the junk drawer.
Okay so think of it this way. You are on top of tallest peak of mount Everest. You have a snowball and you roll it down the hill. The snow ball gaining mass and snow and becoming bigger. The snow ball is technology. Now if one person get in the way of it the snow ball will just eat you up; however, if a lot of get in front if it then we will have a better chance of stopping it. Their comes a point where people will get fed up. Eventually people will get fed up and the the companies will know. However we have to wait and see because younger Generations are growing up with 3 key phones now unlike us we have to wait till they get fed up too. Hopefully it will happen with just this generation because we are what keep the companies a float.

Yea but we'll have our awesome developers working on porting roms and making new ones....I could care less about factory updates!! and the way new phones are coming out every day of the week, it's inevitable that many users will probably have newer phones by then...I usually keep my phones for around two years, two years and the phone is pretty much obsolete, yet yesterday I flashed my brother's old vibrant with the ICS passion build and IT IS flying, he loves it
...but most people tend to change phones sooner... however I don't think development will not die anytime soon...we have a bunch of cool developers now and we'll see the amaze put to some good use in it's lifespan, before we have to pull out our wallets and dish out some cash for a new phone!!

Some news on the ICS update from HTC

I received a call yesterday from an HTC wanting to discuss a rather critical customer support feedback survey I recently submitted. In the course of the conversation he mentioned the ICS upgrade and I asked him when they expect that to happen. His answer:
"It'll be late May or the second half of this year."
I asked him to repeat it, and whether he had any evidence to confirm that. He said he was sure of the time frame. Make of it what you will, but I've suspected for a while we really got boned in the butt with this one. Give up on an official ICS release in any timely manner.
That's what I figured. When I was researching buying this phone and they said "Late Q1", I was skeptical and said it would probably be more like May. We got confirmation that they were blowing smoke when they announced the Rezound wouldn't be until "later this year".
The CS rep you spoke with seems to align with "later this year".
There has to be a way to get faster updates. What happened to the Google Android Update Alliance?
So basically what he said is sometime this year. That's a pretty big window, so basically we will see an official ICS build within the next 9 months. This is the very reason I root my phone. We already have very stable fully functional ICS builds thanks to our Devs. I don't understand how our Devs can get a great build for us, but yet the "professionals" can't seem to make it happen.

Because they aren't concerned with us getting updates. They just work on the next phone and get around to us if they feel like it.

I'm betting it has something to do with Verizon ,not htc. Id blame Verizon for slowing down any update or rom upgrade. Simply because Verizon is testing it to find all the software bugs and tricks embedded in the ROM. And they are determining what bloatware and/or cripplrware they want to stuff in it before its release. Thats why the date keeps getting pushed ahead. Srnd it back to htc devs after vzw is done. Htc tweaks it more, vzw wants to do more to it...and back to htc yet again... :/
The alliance is a joke.
More marketing bs. Great phone though

Even sadder ICS news
http://phandroid.com/2012/03/06/htc-sensation-line-to-get-android-4-0-but-only-sense-3-6/
I think if this is the case with the Rezound rooting will be a must.
Thank goodness for the leaks. They have certainly gotten to the point of being solid and give me most of what I want out of the update. But it doesn't change the fact that Android/Sense 4.0 is ready and working on other phones and they clearly don't have much respect for their previous promises or customers.
I'm sure VZW gets partial blame here, but they are all hurting their reputations together. The extra wait better result in us getting Sense 4! If we just get a bloated official 3.6 I say we get the pitchforks!
Funny, gingerbread with sense 3.5 looks and acts basically like ics with sense 3.6. I tried Joel's sense 4.0 rom and it was pretty cool. This is why we root folks. Never trust the carrier or manufacturers. Stick with the developers!
I'm sure VZW puts HTC through hell with the roms for VZW phones. Definately sucks, but IMO, the longer its put off the more likely we are to get sense 4.0

welcome to retail. HTC/Verizon already has your money. They sold you a phone with whatever software is had on it at the time. They aren't obgliated to update it at all. they do so in order to keep customers happy. its not just HTC either, motorola, samsung, LG, company x; all the same with software updates. Their policy is update the newest first then work their way back. it cost money to develop updates for every single phone model, thats just the way it is. I have learned to not worr or wait for official updates and just use what this great development community has provided to us....4 months early.
the ICS ROMS out right now are honestly magical. Try them out.
I predict that we won't see anything until the "one" is out for at least a month and the buying of that device begins slowing.

I've been following these threads but refraining from posting in them .
I understand your point, however, Android 4.0 was released/announced just prior to the release of the Rezound. If potential customers of the Rezound knew they would not be updated for close to another year (likely when Android 5.0 will be out) I'm sure that would've swayed many buyers.
I myself as well as most of us users on here aren't too hurt about this thanks to our awesome Devs but it sucks to know a lot of people dropped some nice coin for phone that HTC/Verizon have obviously not held their end of the deal of "Will receive ICS in early 2012". This was stated in red lettering on the spec list of the Rezound on the Verizon website.

I don't really agree & I'm not trying to argue at all.
My point is that the average VZ customer could care less about updates to a phone that basically worked just fine out of the box.
I am the head of our corporate cell phone account with almost 200 phones & if you said "ICS update" to any of our users you would be met with a blank stare as they wouldn't have the first clue what you where talking about. As long as they can turn on their phones & it functions as it's supposed to, they are perfectly happy with it.

you are def right and i agree. it sucks that consumers are fed lies to sell products. honestly though you have to think of it as a numbers game for VZW.
How many people bought the rezound? 1 million (for ease of math)
How many of those people actually care what OS their phone has? maybe 10%?
of that 100000, how many really know the advantages of ICS vs GB? maybe another 10%?
i mean its a small piece of the VZW pie when you think about it.
plus when the next big HTC phone hits the shelves for sale VZW can advertise is as the "first 4.0 HTC device"
it will be summer before we see this. all i want ice cream for is so the devs can finally get us aosp.

That is exactly the point I was making.
It is only posters to sites like this who really care about things like ICS updates & we are such a tiny fraction of Verizons 100 million customers. If every single XDA poster switched to Sprint tomorrow, VZ wouldn't even notice the hit........
This isn't anything new. The HTC Droid Eris was stuck on Android 1.5 forever. I'm pretty sure Android 2.2 Froyo was out already by the time the Droid Eris got its official Android 2.1 update. Based on the past, I wouldn't be surprised if we see the official release of Jelly Bean sometime before we get the official ICS update for the Rezound. I was also fully prepared for the possibility that we'd have an AOSP port working before we get the official ICS update from Verizon. The Droid Eris already has a mostly working AOSP ICS port and they haven't had an official update since Android 2.1 to base anything off of, so I know its possible with the right amount of time and patience.
Anyways, going forward its very possible we are only going to have AOSP ports for the Rezound, because it is entirely possible at this point that ICS will be the last officially supported version of Android for this phone.

Hehe. Hehehe. Yeah, I remember that happening too. That was cute.
But yeah, honestly, they didn't attach any teeth to this agreement so there's no incentive for any of the manufacturers to honor it.

*-Read as "suggested", "will try", "should see" or other language infamously used by Samsung to sell handse then reneg and ignore their users while they push a fancy new pretty device.
Whatever, the director of marketing said in the Youtube Q&A that ICS will be coming, they aren't going back on that.
It was going to be a while anyways, so if this Premium Suite comes first, then cool.

edit....forgot this is the AT&T forum..Doubt it will get ICS anytime soon if at all.
I'm not saying ICS will never come like the article suggests, I'm saying it'll be awhile as they have a well proven track history of waiting people wait far longer then they claim they will. I just don't believe anything from them until I see my phone uploading. I put my faith in the community to produce a daily driver ICS far sooner then samsung. Everytime I look as ICS on my Vibrant, I dream of how beautiful the Note will be when it finally gets it.
