Mine only light up when the ambient light is very very low, i.e. standing in a dark closet. You can test this by placing your finger over the light sensor on the front of the phone just to the right of the Verizon logo. That should cause the capacitive buttons to light up.

Does everyone's keyboard light up all the keys? Or did I get a defective phone? I notice that the 3, 6, and 9 keys are real bright and the rest of the keyboard in between is sort of dim, almost like a wave of lights across the keyboard...i also notice my 1(!) key is very very dark, almost like no light at all...should I exchange my TP for another one? other than that my phone works great!
those areas are where the light sources are. mine is almost the same way. i don't really mind it that much since the rest of the phone works great.
Mine is the same they probably just did 3 lights at the top instead of lights all around the keyboard to save power.
oh. i guess its more noticeable in the light when its not really necessary. i wish the light sensor would sense keyboard light is not needed. in the dark it appears that the entire keyboard becomes lit, just brighter in some spots than others
have a fuze from att...its the same way.
I received a call before in a dark room and noticed that on the top by the front facing camera a tiny light was blinking red very dimly. I'm assuming it could be cause my battery is low but I was curious as I didn't know there was an led there and wondering what else its used for. If there was some way to implement a notification light I would be happy as its one of my biggest pet peeves with this phone

It's an IR LED - some people can see IR as dim red. It's the camera's proximity sensor (how the phone knows to turn the screen and touchscreen off when the phone is next to your face in a call.)
Noticed this as well. Seems to only come on during a call and you aren't on speaker phone. It would be cool to use it as a notification light, but it is a really dim red color.
EDIT: ^^^ Well there ya go
Thanks, I got a little excited when I saw it cause I was thinking it could be used for nptofaction but if that's as bright as it gets I guess not
Good Evening from Germany,
i've read here on the Forum that here are some People with the Problem that his SGS S2 turn automatically the Proximity Sensor on .
Now i have an Idea for our Developer here :
Why don't use the Proximity Sensor Light as Notification Light ??
The proximity sensor uses infrared light, you can't see that with the naked eye.

It still emits a faint red light (more visible in the dark) but I don't think it's strong enough to be useful as a notification light.
Anyone else having this problem with their note? I've noticed in brighter conditions the home button seems a little bit darker on the left half, as though its not lit up. But when I walk into a darker area it looks perfect. Anyone else have this problem? I have a white note. Not sure if that affects anything.
I forgot what review it was, but they talk about the light bleeding in the buttons on the white Note.
Mine light up evenly, there is some bleed around the icons since my note is white.
When I set my capacitive key backlight to "In the dark" they stay lit up as long as the phone is awake regardless of the light level.
I see the bleeding but its not that. In anything but bright light its not noticeable, but in the sun, it looks like the left half isn't lighting up
The color for the backlight for the capacitive buttons on my One are white, but on my girlfriends' One the backlight for the capacitive buttons are sorta like a light purple almost LED ish color, wondering if anyone else has noticed this? Or if it's possible to change the colors of the backlight? Any input is appreciated, I'm not complaining I love the phone I'm just curious

noticed the same. my first At&T unlock to tmobile had white capacitive and the colder screen whiter color. Now my tmobile version has a much brighter capacitive led purpleish and warmer screen. download an app, i'm not sure if it is in the market but the same is (capacitive buttons brighness) reduce the brighness to half on the capacitive leds.
That's weird....
Mine is sort of purple-ish too. I always thought that was odd. But it doesn't bother me. I actually kind of like it
