One more releated to android question- Porting rom question - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I try to ask another question as if my past four questions never answered by noone...anyway i will try...its free after all!
I wanna port a rom from a device similar to mine...cos mine device has zero (0) developers there are plenty devices with my board...like desire HD, SE Neo V, Desire S, Xperia T...and so on....my device have the msm7630 board...but for some strange reason the few chinese devs and the official rom made by Huawei i forgot my device is the Ideos X5 pro with msm7630 board, the chinese devs and the official GB,ICS rom are using the same as the past version of the mobile the Ideos X5 (non pro) the msm7x30_surf...they have it on build.prop also the .so files on system/lib/hw are called _surf.so files...so there are plenty of roms that we can use but they using the msm7630 board if i simply do as we do with other huawei phones simply change the build.prop and use our own kernel (3.0.8) the phone boots but if we use our kernel but desire HD rom...the phone stuck on bootscreen...so there are files releated to the board on the kernel??i think yes but im not sure..and how can we port a rom like this...remember the boards are the same everywhere i look we use the msm7630 board not the msm7x30_surf board...
So if someone could pls help me and answer this thread i will be greatful!! thanks!
Also if there is a Greek developer with will to help me pls pm me!

ok use your phones boot.img(kernel+ramdisk)
this way adb will load up
then check for errors in libs like error xyz.so couldnt load up then do a adb push or get into the system somehow get a logcat....
or
if u think most of the hardware is the same
use that config as base and make mods to suit ur device then compile any rom from source...

[Video Guide] Xperia U --- How to unlock and Root

I had hidden it inside another thread, but figured it should be mentioned in the Q&A for all those that could use it.
For ICS (android 4.0+)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
For GB (android 2.3.7)
It will guide you step by step through the unlocking process and rooting the Xperia U
(same principles apply for P & S but no examples/kernels provided)
Credits (links)
Guide based on the information provided by DoomLord
The 1.564 kernel is made by DoomLord
The 3.184 kernel is made by KeiranFTW
More information about warranty: visit Sony Forum
For the noobs:
Root / Rooting = to lift the default protection of the Android OS and gives you access to all system files that are normally hidden from you
This enables extra functionality but also requires knowledge about the android system to know what is safe to do and what not.
- Simple root use: changing theme elements / new battery icons / individually controlling the LEDs
- Advanced root use: overclocking your CPU / adjusting the OS / making a custom ROM
Nice!!
Is Their Any Solution To Root Without Unlocking Bootloader . I Know Their is One in XPERIA U Development Thread but Its Links Are Not Valid ..and moreover its for Xperia U .564 firmware but I Want it For The .184 ?...
That one was fake.. Might be possible when ICS comes.. But am not sure
Sent from my ST25i
Thanks! It actually helped me root my XPERIA U!
Followed the guide, my U lost the ability to change colors when viewing the themes (cosmic flow) although when viewing images it still works fine. Also started getting some lag. Any way to somehow fix these?

This is a known bug on the Xperia U. However to fix it, all you have to do is install the Light1.1.apk from the following thread (Credits to straciam).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823418
PS: I have not tested this app but I speculate that this will be the solution based on the comments in that thread. I would recommend you to read the thread first. If this helped, do thank me and the developer of the app
@nixx-X1: I would like to request you to incorporate a re-locking guide for Xperia U. I would've done it myself but seems like your video tutorial actually makes things simpler.

Will try to do that when I get home next week thanks. I now have a new issue lol. Recently tried out supercharged kernel by vito, prob is that when I press the power button the screen somewhat flickers before fading to black. It goes fuzzy like in a tv but only quickly. Tried turning off and on my phone but its still there. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

To Un-root, all you need to do is Flash the stock ROM FTF. There are 2 threads in the Xperia U Development thread that has all the information of Download links to the FTF's ICS and GB. Just have a look. Just a quick guided video would be helpful.
---------- Post added at 04:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:11 PM ----------
I am using the Supercharged Kernel too and I do not exactly know if it is a problem coz I believe it is the fade out effect. I never experienced any flicker of any sort. Could you please tell me what precisely is happening? BTW, what ROM are u using?
Thank's!

Its the fade out effect. Before I used the kernel the screen normally goes black, now the fade out effect has gray and white fuzzy things. I don't think I have tried to change my ROM yet.

/sys/android_touch/vendor (open it as a text file)
That tells you the make of your touchscreen. First step to seeing if it is compatible at all.
And you can't just make CM for another device work for yours by replacing a few files. It has to be ported to your device or compiled from source with all the right drivers and binaries. This requires a lot of developer knowledge, which you don't seem to have judging by your questions. So don't go messing around changing files in ROMs and trying to make them work. If you're really interested, learn about porting and compiling from source.

Hello guys,
today has happened to me the baddest thing in the world.

[REQUEST] ROM for my Generic Device?

Hi! I've been dreaming of flashing a ROM but since my device is generic there's no ROM for it. So I'm here to request one if anyone could, I can consider it as a gift for my birthday. This generic device just came out here in my country about 5 months ago. So ya here's the info:

Thanks! I can provide more if needed
I think that can be done, just send me a system dump of your stock ROM using
Code:
adb pull /system
But before that share the processor name and board type so I can find the right device to port from.

Just use a root browser to navigate to /system where you will see folders like app, framework, priv-app, lib and such. Just select all the files and folders and copy them somewhere in your sdcard. Then zip them up and upload on Dev Host rather than 4Shared coz I hate to login at the damn site to download anything.

I would really appreciate help on that front. And one question, do you have a custom recovery installed ???

I'll help you with the root thing, and anyways, since you got my device info and system dump, what is the best custome recovery you can recommend that will work? Thanks a bunch.

I found an application to help with root, and it worked. For custom recovery you can look at twrp but since your generic device will definitely not have device trees available, there's no way to compile it for you.

Bro, I think custom recovery isn't needed? I downloaded a ROM before and boot my device to recovery mode and apply update zip from storage, I choosed the correct ROM I downloaded and it started flashing, I was scared cause my device might brick cause the ROM wasn't really for my device so I immediately restarted, I don't know. Isn't it possible to just have ODIN and let the work do it for me so I have custom recovery? Thanks man.
