I want to change the sound of the phone when I touch it (for selections). I know the directory is system/media/audio/ui, but I don't know how the selection is done from the files within the directory? Do we replace the file with our own with the same filename? Because I changed from one rom (Omega 16.2) to another (Omega 9.2) and I saved in my pc the folder /system/media/audio/ui from both roms to compare them. Although both roms have (almost) the same files in the directory, the touch sound (which is the one I want to change) is different. So how do I choose which file the system uses for each operation?
For anyone interested, I found that it was the file Effect_Tick.ogg in the above directory

I've been trying to find a way of replacing the system sounds on the XDA.
I've looked around the registry but am unable to find any keys that look like they might help. Anyone any ideas  After a while the start menu pops and clicks get a bit boring!!
take a look through the pocket pc's windows folder, I recently got fed up with the default sms recieved sound, and discovered that they are in there as wav files.
If you copy in a wav file into the relevant folder, it will become available from the "Sounds & Notification" list.
As you are wanting to change the system "pops" & clicks, in theory, you could just find the wav file, rename it to "popold.wav" and rename your desired new sound to the sound of the original.
Just an idea... let us know if it works
That almost worked, unfortunatly you can't rename system files held in the rom! Unless someone knows how?
You can't rename them, but you can replace them, when you delete the new file and reboot, your old (ROM stored) file should come back
At least this applied for iPAQ 5450... try first
Still no luck
I've changed every other sound on the system but those start menu ones just will not budge! There must be something, somewhere in the registry that can be altered, I'll keep bigging at it!
Maybe i can help here...
If you want to chance every sound file to your bidding without going trough any pocket pc menu's or wasting space, do the following
insert your xda, dont fill in anything with partnership from active sync (just leave it asking). Copy every wav file from the windows dir to your pc in a wav1 dir. make a wav2 dir with the ones you want to use.
now replace the wav's on your pc with the ones you like. Rename them exactly like they are. (best to do is selecting a wav, press f2(rename) and then ctrl+c) then select your new wav file from wav dir2 and f2(rename) and ctrl+v that file.
once you have done renaming to your likeness. (**tip** rename roaring gitar to a 1kb file, saves up 42kb
select all new renamed wav files with copy
and go to explorer and your pocketpc windows dir.
select past
and awnser yes to all
works for me
Hello everyone
So lets get to the point.
I actually want to know of a kernal with which i will be able to change bootscreen. Ofcourse i could have found myself but there are sooooooo many kernals to test.... Its almost impossible to find one. I currently use siyah. So if anyone knows please tell me.
No kernel supports bootanimation, you have to do a small edit to rom level to get it to go..

Ok i like messing with complex things. So, what file do i need to edit?
First of all serves:
- A sd card ( to save the file)
- the files of the boot animation taken from another rom or firmware ( to put in our sd before you put it in cellular!)
- root permissions
- a file manager (type solid explorer , astro file manager etc..)
If you have done all of this then we begin opening our file manager: By 'phone' go to 'SYSTEM' and Entered in the folder 'SYSTEM' we go to the subfolder called 'MEDIA' ! In Here we will find or 2 file format called QMG bootsamsung. and QMG and bootsamsungloop. QMG , or a zip file called boot animation.zip ! Then copy the files and paste them from your phone to 'SD' . So in case we have problems conversely from there. For this to mean we go back to system and go in the folder SD CARD. in the 'SD' we stick on files ( or by creating a folder or we may put them where we want! Glued the files back to system , always in the folder " MEDIA" and we are cancelling the two original files.
In this , we return back to the sd card, leaving system and copy the two files that we have brought in sd and that we would like to put as the boot animation . Copied the files and go system / MEDIA and here paste the file! Now by clicking on file , there will be a menu' , just go to 'PERMISSION OR PERMITS ' and put the checkmark on READ WRITE-READ- READ ! And restart your mobile phone.

Ok thanks i did as you said but there is no change. The mod contains only bootanimation.zip. Please tell me a way. Here is mod forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1734434
The bootanimation is composed of two files: a .zip file that is located in system/media called its own bootanimation.zip (that and the video) and a .ogg files that is located in system/etc called PowerOn.ogg (the audio part)

P.S. Dates even a glance at google, there are many! Small piece of advice: if you read that they recommend to flash the bootanimation does not go ahead. If you follow my guide to the letter you'll never problems!
Installation procedure :
- Download the bootanimation
- if the package that you download and flash then from pc pull the archive and look for the system folder/media. Inside you will find the file bootanimation.zip , grabing it(without extracting the content) on the desktop and then copy it into the sd's internal phone.
- Always if the package is from flash, from the pc pull the archive and look for the folder system/etc and copied the file PowerOn. Ogg in sd's internal phone(in some bootanimation the sound file there is! It makes no difference)
- once you have copied these two files we have to enter with the rootexplorer in the system folder/media, rename the existing file to bootanimation.zip in bootanimation.zip.old (thus the store)and copy our new file being careful that it is appointed as well, i.e. bootanimation.zip
- if we also file PowerOn. Ogg then always with root explorer we enter in system/etc rinominiamo the existing file in PowerOn.ogg.old and copy our new file always careful that it is spelled correctly, i.e.: PowerOn. Ogg
- if we have not the audio files but what we have we don't like it then to delete just rename the file to .old -once copied files, reboot the phone, and enjoy our new bootanimation....

THanks for links.
I did as you said that is,
renamed bootanimation.zip in system/media to bootanimation.zip.old (in internal phone).
Then i put modified bootanimation.zip after extracting it from the archive i downloaded and put it into phone in system/media.
Restarted phone.... no affects! no change! its default!

if you want to put other bootanimation cel.dovete edit the info file inside the zip file.
estarete folder bootanimation
usually you will find two files
part0 folder (containing pgn files or jpg)
and the configuration file named desc
This latter open it with Notepad
you will like this:
720 1280 24
p 1 0 part0
The first line corresponds to the size with the frames per second
The second line:
P corresponds to a new command
1 corresponds to the number of how many times you want to see your bootanimation (on gs3 if you set 0, is in a continuous loop)
the next number would be zero, specifies how many frames to wait before moving on to the next command
maybe if you have different caretlle
ie part0
part1
if the rom he use is not modded to allow custom bootanimation, there is nothing he can do

Wrong wrong wrong stock Samsung boot files are QMG format always .
They have no bearing upon a custom boot animation .
Custom boot animation is in a ZIP file and requires a kernel capable of running custom boot zip .

I have rooted my HTC One aka M7 and all is well except when I try to edit my keyboard layout which is located in:
/system/usr/keylayout
I can edit the file but when rebooting to test it, my changes have reverted back to stock.
I am familiar with editing the files as I have done this before on many phones and tablets.
I usually just use ES File Explorer with R/W (Read / Write) permissions turned on for the /system directory.
Very easy to do and have never had a problem before.
As a test, I have tried renaming the original file by adding a number 1 to the end of the file and then replacing the stock file with my edited version.
This has always worked but when I try this on the HTC One upon reboot the original file that has been renamed with a 1 at the end is now gone from the /system/usr/keylayout folder and the stock file is back and the edited version of the file is gone.
I know 'file permissions' are correct as I have set the file to what it was before any changes and I know I have R/W permisions for the /system folder set correctly because without it I can not even rename the stock file (adding the 1 on to the end of the file's name is not allowed unless R/W is set for the /system folder).
It is almost like there is a backup that is being replaced upon reboot to the /system/usr/keylayout folder.
If there is a backup, I can not find where the backup file is to edit/change it also.
I am trying to change the AVRCP.kl file but it its the same no matter which file I edit or rename, it always reverts back to stock file (both the name and the contents) after a reboot.
Anyone have any ideas? Anyone edited there keylayout on the HTC One aka M7 yet?
Thanks
Come on people, no one can answer this question?
I have the exact same problem except I have an M8. Something somewhere keeps reverting the kl file/folder on reboot.
I know how to associate ringtones with contacts.
I want to rename ringtones with the name of the contact so they are easier to find by file name.after flashing a ROM
The problem is that changing the file name doesn't always change the name of the ringtone. Or editing the title in the text file breaks the ringtone so it won't play.
For example:
"Orion" ring tone file can be renamed "Friend1", and will show up in file managers as Friend1. But under Sound/Select Ringtones, it will still show up as Orion. Opening the file in Text Editor and changing the title will break the ringtone.
Solution?
Are you renaming the file name through the phone or on a pc? Might make a difference. Not sure though.

I probably renamed them on a PC, then transferred the folder to the phone sdcard. My plan is to then replace the systen/media/audio/ringtones folder with one that avoids the ringtones I don't like, and only includes options I like.
That works, but doesn't allow my new names to show up under ringtone selection lists. The old name then appears, twice if I also keep the old file with the original ringtone name.
In a text editor, I can change the "title" inside the text of the file, but that breaks the ringtone.
2 Ringtones are exceptions, and don't include 'titles" in the text file. They don't revert, but show up as I have renamed them.

On a computer in a media player, you should be able to "edit tag info" or something similar. that is where you add in the track name, artist, album info and all of a MP3.
**EDIT**
Easier way, on a Windows machine you can just right click the file and select properties, then the details tab, change it there.
If the files are edited properly, they will work, and show up properly. The "text edit" method just broke the files so they wouldn't play. But an MP3 tag editor which can also handle .ogg files will allow the title to be changed and whatever else is needed in there to make it work.
So the solution for me is:
1. Copy the ringtone you want.
2. Rename the file with a R/W capable root explorer, or do it on a PC.
3. Retag with a tag editor to change the Title in the tag if needed, so it shows up properly in the Ringtone selection screens
4. Place the file in the right place with a root explorer, in the case of a Verizon Note 2, the system place is system/media/audio/ringtones
5. I also rename the original ringtones folder, and replace it with one that has all of the ringtones I want, without the ones I don't.
Hello, I am wondering if anyone knows how to replace files for a mobile game? Game in question is game called "Crossing Void", and I want to change some art (pictures ingame). I managed to take out the apk but it sadly didn't have the pictures I wanted. (Turns out its the asset folder, no .obb or not in the .apk itself, if I'm correct).
I spent some time and found more of its data in Android > Data > Gamefolder_CompanyName [1]. I copied and moved it to the pictures folder (PC Shared Folder) [2], took it out and placed it on my desktop (then extracted the files as they were in ZIP format) [3]. Afterwards I used a program to extract all the assets (the files had no extensions, including audio and textures, just a plain file name so I unfortunately couldn't view them) [4]. But I didn't want to give up so I spent some hours researching and found out I have to extract the assets, luckily I found a program called AssetStudio GUI [5], and used that.
After I extracted all the assets I can finally open and view the files, be it music or pictures! (they got extensions now, .ogg, .png, etc). So I replaced some pictures, I made sure they retained same file name and everything even after replacement. But this is where I am stuck. I don't know how to turn these pictures back to their original "structure" (so that they have no extension like they originally had, just plain name). Maybe if I can figure this out, I can put the newly modified zip (which has my added pictures that I replaced) and replace the original zip (which has the old pictures).
I tried by just renaming my picture, example xdadev.png to xdadev, zipped the folder and replaced. But I still had original picture ingame when I logged back on. I made sure to delete old folder too and paste the modified one in here. [6]
P.S/ ((I placed the new zip in the pictures folder (PC Shared Folder), went on my emulator, opened ES file explorer, copied the folder and placed it in the Android > Data folder). I did delete the original one first, but no success as aforementioned).
Sorry for the long message, I just wanted to make sure to include all the information!
