Battery still being eaten. - AT&T LG Optimus G

So my battery has been running pretty decently throughout the day. Never have to charge it. Then I went to bed last night and decided not to put the charger in to treat it overnight. Starting at 23% but when I woke up seven hours later it was at 7%. I ran the code for wakelocks and it seemed to work, so I'm not sure what's up.

Wow that's nasty. I'm hoping that this will be solved after a full wipe and some fresh custom firmware

Not many people seem to be having this issue so I'm just wondering if anyone took any extra steps or of I'm just unlucky haha.

Im still having issues but not that bad. Im still around 40-45%.

It's pretty annoying..
Well I let my phone further discharge then plugged it in and went back to bed haha.
Woke up to a fully charged phone about half an hour ago and unplugged it. Still at 100% with heavy texting and XDA app..
Doesn't make sense, but we'll see.

I just charged to 100% and wiped battery stats cleared caches and rebooted. Gonna leave my phone alone for an hour then use it for an hour and see how shes doing.

Haha, she. That's cute.
Let me know how it works, I might do that if good results.

Has to be a she, i dont think i could love a man this deeply.

Oh you could! You gotta feel it deep down.

I give up.. its basically exactly the same. No matter what i do. Alarm manager seems to cause the most partial wake locks for me i think.. unless i have touch sounds on then its AudioOut_1 causing the most... im just gonna sit back and wait for aosp a magical fix everything button to show up on my screen.
Edit: I dont know what im doing anyway. Ill just save it for the pro's.

All of a sudden my phone has been deep sleeping.
I haven't really touched it since I unplugged it which was nearly an hour ago and it's still at 100%.
Most I did was take 2 pictures and send a couple text messages and turn my phone to silent.
But the OS is still marked as 55%. F.uck logic?
Edit: Scratch that, phone suddenly reading 97%. What do?

I dunno. I just no im not happy with my brand new phone not lasting a day off the charger. I only had it stock for an hour or two so im probably going to flash stock over the weekend and see how it runs for a couple days.

How heavy is your use? I'm almost convinced your drain is worse than mine.

The LG interface has a glitch with reading battery life. It bounces around quite a bit above 90%. It only gets exact at levels below 90%.

That's fine, but the problem remains.
It's not -horrid- drain, but my phone has been running on battery for the past 3 hours with little interaction and it's at 80%.
I don't know what could still be dropping it. I'm not expecting a perfect battery especially when I've had it for a few days, just doesn't make sense.

Freeze some apps that run in the background or simply delete them.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app

I haven't bought TB yet. Makes it a little hard to freeze.
Besides, it's the Android OS that's draining it. It sticks to 51-55% no matter what.
Keep Awake is the only thing that's constantly running.

I thought 40-50% is normal for Android OS?
Lawbreaker on another forum said.
"And remember, it is a percentage. The fewer other tasks you perform with the phone, the higher percentage of usage the Android O/S will be.
Basically, if your usage was 25% Display, 15% GPS, 10% Sync, 50% Android OS, and then you stopped using the display, turned off GPS, and killed the sync, your usage would be 100% android OS because you removed everything else using the battery."

To see what is keeping your phone from going into deep sleep, look for wake locks. I use better battery stats to monitor my phone.

I guess this makes sense considering everything else is really low. My brightness was at 0% during work so I wouldn't get caught texting haha.
The Keep Awake has shown improvement, on for 1h 44m after being unplugged for 5 hours. But near 30% drain seems to be a lot when barely touched.

I'm not concerned with the percentage number as much as I am the keep awake time. I believe if that gets under control, my battery live will be better. I'm not unhappy with going a whole day without charging, but I would like to see it get the best possible battery life.

Battery drains faster than usual

I have noticed my battery sucks lately. I know the battery isn't the greatest but I was able to get easily a day of use out if it. Now I can barely go a day. I purchased beautiful Widgets, battery indicator and xda app all last week And it seems after that is when my battery went to **** .I used launcher pro for a bit too but started having lag problems so I removed that. Today I uninstalled beautiful Widgets. I'm on wifi and in airplane mode. As I'm typing this I've lost %2 already. Wtf is going on? I have GPS Bluetooth and usually wifi off. I have use only 2G networks, sync only gmail and screen manually set and set to low 30sec TO.
Any suggestions?

Quick question, which ROM are you running? Ever since I switched over to leaked JI2, every couple days I notice that after running one of a few apps, the CPU just seems to go into overdrive. The phone gets really warm and the battery drains ridiculously fast. So fast that even plugging into my car charger won't charge the phone, even on idle. If I reboot, the phone cools down and the battery drain goes back to its normal, slow self.
I haven't narrowed it down to any specific app yet, but it seems to be either, Foursquare, Great Land Grab, or Bubble Blast.
Foursquare I have, I don't remember when I installed it. I am actually just running stock TW.

I get 15hrs... I am not ROOTED! I did the drain battery life process twice. This is with moderate usage. I am planning to do the drain battery process once a month cuz I hear it helps with battery life. Possible that u install something that's killing your battery.
Solution do the master reset if that doesn't help then it can be the battery is no good. I know that this is with the stock rom. If u are using another rom that's maybe the problem. U can try switchig roms to see if this is the problem. I hope this information has been helpful.
Does the master reset remove everything ? I have all my pics/videos on my phone meM. I have music and avatar on SD.

It seems as though it drains faster in standby with nothing running. I removed FourSquare last night and have nothing running as far as widgets. I'm going to reboot and see. I've had it unplugged since 7am this morning, after a little over an hour I lost 2%.. not that bad I guess..

I've had this happen a few times. For me, it's usually because my battery status gets thrown off somehow. The phone would read that I have 55% battery life left, but it really only is at 25 or 30% and it always feels like it's draining fast. I usually turn off the phone, pull the battery out for a few seconds and then put it back it. When I turn on the phone the battery percentage is corrected and the phones seems to be back to normal battery use. I don't know why this happens.

This was suddenly happening to me today -- my battery started draining very quickly, mostly on standby (I usually have quite good battery life). No new or unusual apps installed in the past week (I don't use Foursquare).
I gave it a power-down/battery pull; no adjustment in the % as described in the post above, but it seems to be draining more normally now. Weird....

Same thing happens to me every couple days. Rebooting the phone fixes it every single time though, so it's not a big deal if I catch it in time. If I didn't catch it, I'd estimate my phone would be drained (even in standby) within 4 hours or so.

Same here, I rebooted after removing FS and some other apps/touitur and got 1day 13hrs on the next charge with pretty moderate use. So whatever it was, it's gone now. If it was FS hopefully it's fixed soon.
Had a similar experience, with battery % entering freefall every time I turned the phone on. Two things helped:
1. I did the drain cycle. Drain the battery completely till it shuts off and charge it to full while off. This does not 'fromat/form' the battery in any way it just helps the phone to calibrate the meter.
2. I uninstalled few apps that I suspected were draining the battery.
I advise you install JuicePlotter and see the graph of battery drain. You'll be able to tell if the phone is entering standby or not. Thanks to some culprit apps (still figuring out what it was exactly) my phone was not entering standby at all hence the crap battery life.

Does your rooted NT battery heat up?

The bottom right side of my NT heats up during normal use. Also the battery seems to discharge really fast? Is this normal or am I being paranoid. My previous NT overheated really bad once so I excahnged it.
I have been using it for about 30 minutes now after a full charge and its at 90% charge left.

I have noticed the battery getting warm, but it's usually when I've been browsing for a while. It doesn't feel super hot (like my laptop does) but it's warm. I haven't noticed terrible battery life. If I let it sit idle, it goes to about 50% in 8 hours time. If this is an issue, I want to know about it. I'll have to restore it to factory settings and whatnot, but I don't want a faulty device.

There were a number of posts from people who were seeing high battery temps after skipping the OOBE. Did those of you having problems in this thread skip OOBE, uninstall B&N apps yourself, and/or use compromise the B&N applications/services in any way?
Just got mine. I noticed that it does get warm but not too warm to cause panic. Mobile phones start getting warm too if you've been browsing over wifi for a while. Are most people running frosty nooks? Should it not feel even a little warm?
Or maybe you can rate the amount of heat, say from 1-10 how hot does yours get?
My rooted nook gets hot while playing Exitium for half an hour, but not when it's idling.
Not I
I use my Nook tablet quite extensively and I don't seem to feel an unusual amount of heat coming from it. 30 minutes of use and down to 90% is not unusual either. Otherwise, I would have to agree that there is probably an app running your CPU full tilt. Probably not your battery that is heating up either, if you look at the pictures of these pulled apart, you would see that if the battery was what was getting warm, it would be almost the whole back of your NT.

I was actually thinking the same thing. I think the warmth I'm feeling is actually coming from the wifi adapter inside, which would make sense because I notice it when I'm browsing the web for a long time or downloading a large file.
No issues with heating up here.

Only time mine heats up is if I have been streaming from my pc to the tablet via dlna server to watch videos which would either mean its the wifi chip or the cpu heating up.

Just to clarify, you're saying if it is sitting idle - not being used, and the screen is off - for eight hours, it will drop 50% of the battery? I just picked mine up, and after almost 11 hours sitting idle it only lost 5% of the battery. It sounds like you might have an app causing a wakelock.
No heat in mine and it does retain charge while sitting with screen off. I rarely turn it off and charge every day or two depending on use. I read somewhere it is not good to let the battery go completely dead.
Not sure what OOBE is but I have been turning it off to avoid it from overheating really bad like my first book.
Not really sure how to scale it but I would guess maybe a 5 if a 10 is where it wouldn't turn on and a 1 is its cold to the touch.
I used Indrects method.
How would I check to see if a app is doing something like that? Tgps?
I guess I could just leave it on for a day then check to see how the battary is after like 15 - 20 hours.

I skipped OOBE, I used NARS to root. I don't have this problem.
Never heated up for me, not once.
Overall I'm more than pleased with battery life. Watched 40 mins of youtube 720p video with jetvd yesterday (over wifi) and battery went down only by 10%. My SGS2 would've lost like 60%.

My Magical Battery Improvement

Has anyone else ever had their battery improve over time?
My stock battery has overnight gotten amazingly better, and I can't explain it. Its on a stock amaze, everything stock, I was having some battery issues, it would charge and get to 99% then take a good 20-25 mins to get to 100%, so I got a battery calibrator off the market, a non root required one. So I get it charged, and 'calibrate' it, and I didn't think it would do anything. So it stayed at 100% for over an hour with the screen on. At night it was reading 70%, and I left it without charging, and in the morning was dead. Right away I thought the battery calibrator threw it off, so I charged it up agaon to 100%, and this time wanted it to drain to zero, and I thought I'd start over from a drained battery. Same thing happened when I had it at 100%, it would take forever to drain it, I was playing movies on it, sound turned up, screen full brightness, and the thing wouldn't drain. I had a movie looped all night, and for a period of 10 hrs of this, it was still going when I woke up! I find it hard to believe that this is legit, but I've tried it twice now to drain the battery and I'll wake up and it'll be at roughly 15% remaining.
The other odd thing I noticed is on my data tracker, I had about 80MB of data go through the phone that I can't recall doing anything with. It was at a time I was at home and on wifi, so I can't call telus and see what went through the network, but the phone had something big go through it that I didn't do. Maybe telus is secretly fixing the battery issue on these phones? The conspiracy continues…
Just thought I'd share. I attached a pic of the battery status as of today. I haven't charged this thing in over a day other then a little bump. Before, I'd get to 18-20 hrs of regular use and it would need a charge.
I've also got another amaze running energy rom, and faux and its been doing way better then the rooted amaze.

Taking pictures uses a LOT of battery life i have noticed, especially when using flash.
The Screen was barely on and awake time is minimal as well. Everyone just says "Wow" when they see a day, but a day of barely using your phone is not a special thing to accomplish.
Truth when I spend all day at my job I can't use my phone, even with syncing on... I'll still have 70+ % after 14 hours or so...

So is this thread supposed to be based on a purely stock experience? I have yet to get less than 14 hours with the heaviest usage.. but then again I am not stock. But every rom I have used has given me at LEAST a 12 hour battery life, even if I am trying to kill it.
I realize from numerous threads that wiping battery stats doesn't really do anything, but even though my battery goes to 90% super quick(I wish I knew why, it hasn't always) I still usually get 18+ from my phone, with realistic usage.
If this thread IS just for people using stock.. why are you using stock? I am on bulletproof 2.5 with the latest kernel, and I get great battery life, with over 130 apps installed and regular use.
A random thought, on previous devices I disabled automatic time sync and saw a big difference. I did the same for the amaze since day 1.. maybe you should disable it too? After you synced to the server, what point is there to auto-time?
My 2 cents.. don't know what the complaining it about.
On light usage, I EASILY get 2+ days on one charge..

Bad Battery Drain, HELP!

I've had the HTC One X+ for a week now and it's a really good phone, however, the battery really lets it down. The battery drain is terrible on my phone. The phone is really good in sleep mode, only losing about 2% in 1 hour, but as soon as it's not in sleep mode, as soon as you start to use the phone, the battery drains like hell. For example, when I'm web surfing or using applications, it loses 1% like every 2 minutes and that's crazy!
I don't know why, power saver is on, switched to 2G instead of 3G, disabled Google Now, auto-sync, basically everything I think would drain the battery. Brightness is on it's minimum. I feel so restricted when using my phone! But I've read other people having really good battery life even with moderate use, so am I doing something wrong? Should I factory reset my phone? Is there something wrong with my phone? Can someone help me?
Thanks!!
Have you disabled all AT&T apps? They drain battery as hell especially ATT locker.

Under Settings/Sounds/Ring Tone untick the three options as they just have the sensors constantly checking, then under Settings/Power untick Fastboot.
Then get a battery monitor app like GSam Battery Monitor which pinpoints the power drainer. How many apps do you have installed? Dump the ones you hardly ever use.
Also, several charge/discharge cycles are necessary before battery reaches best performance.

I think losing 2% of battery every hour of standby is pretty bad. How many hours of screen time on do you get from a full charge to around 10%?

2% isn't bad. You crazy.
My phone's battery life is really good and keeps improving with more usage. I do not however, expect more than a few hours of gaming.

Won't lie i got the same problem you are facing right now. The battery life is horrible, in fact it only lasts about 3-4 hours gaming if i am lucky. Before 5 minutes i opened a game called "dead trigger" my battery was 94% after 5 minutes of playing guess what? BOOM 89% straight which is extremely bad from my point of view.
You know, you do have screen with a high resolution, and you're using the max of the graphic and other chips while gaming...and that costs power...most likely NFC is active, as is BT, 4G, brightness on 200%, the loudspeaker blearing some music out of the cloud, GPS on, and 15 apps not closed properly, weather syncing every 5 secs, and 700 apps installed from Happy Santa to FakeYourPhone!
I really can't get it that you complain about it. It is a mobile smartphone that can be used to play games. If your priority lies with the latter, have a charger handy with you! Play, enjoy, and stop moaning...Period!

Bad Battery Drain as well
I'm going to tack onto this thread. I got the HTC One X+ about a week 1/2 ago. The phone is amazing. It has everything I want, but I cannot make it through the day once without always consciously thinking about battery drain and how quickly the phone just sucks down the power. The following Battery Monitor graph is when I have JuiceDefender installed so it turns off the data radio whenever the screen is off or I'm connected to WiFi. I was on WiFi from 7:45 this morning all the way to 5:00pm. The drain on this thing is so fast. I didn't watch a single video today nor any games. This is all facebook data, internet data, and just some general playing on the phone. I also turn on the power save feature for Jelly bean so I turned off vibration feedback, brightness is turned down, and CPU saving is turned on.
Do I have a dud phone or is the One X+ really that awful on the battery? I'm strongly considering taking it back but every single other thing about the phone is great but if the battery on every One X+ is that bad I don't know if it's worth it. Please help assuage my fears or give me some advice on what I can do better.
Do you have Google now active?

You have WiFi, lte, and I'm assuming other radios on. Curious to see what other apps you're running in the background.

I do. I kind of thought it was one of the neater parts of Jelly Bean. Is it a complete battery hog? This is my 1st android phone but I'm a long time Smartphone owner. I'm guessing by your question I should disable it and see how the battery performs.
It is an LTE phone though i'm on wifi 90% of my day. Background apps that run are usually Whatsapp, Facebook, and Linkedin. Right now I'm losing about 2% charge every 10 minutes if I'm using it. I gotta plug the thing in as much as I can just so I can use it. I'm perfectly fine with tweaking the thing, just not sure how much 'tweaking' is needed to get some better performance out of the things.
I'm wondering if Facebook is the problem... Just a thought...
The One X+ isnt that bad in terms of battery life in my experience, I've done 15.5 hours with 2.5 hours screen on time, Not sure what folks are expecting, Thats pretty average for a smartphone... That is with Wi-Fi on, LTE on, Google Now on, Autosync on, the little weather widgety clock thing on.. and pretty much me not doing anything besides closing apps when im done with it, I have Kik messanger and TextPlus on in the background but they arent doing much to my battery life... I dont use the power saver until it toggles at 15% battery life, I have vibration on, and my brightness is fixed at like 33% constantly... I have every ATT app disabled in the app thing.. I also have the "best Wi-Fi performance" thing ticked which says it might use more battery...
Yes, Gaming and watching videos on the thing is going to drain the battery out fast, Just like every smartphone I've ever owned... Its better than my GSM Nexus with the stock battery (Its roughly halfway between the stock battery and the extended one) and better than the S3 I had very briefly (However I will note the S3 couldnt keep a signal at all whereas my One X+ can...) The conversion seems to be that you trade about 2 hours standby time for 30 minutes of screen-on usage in my case
Picture 1 is me using my phone normally in a day.. 15.5 hours is more than enough (I'd say i get closer to 13 or 14 average) with 2.5 hours of screen on time
Picture 2 was me basically doing nothing but watching Youtube and playing games this morning... its really not all that bad, the biggest consumer/ battery hog for me is Mediaserver for some reason, I'm not actually 100% sure why (I know what it is...) or if i could pull even better battery life if there is something actually wrong with it and its draining my battery excessively... But I'm not complaining about it because well.. this was me abusing my phone pretty much
Not arguing that some folks are getting rubbish battery life, Because they are, I'm actually more curious as to whats causing it, There has to be something here and some way to fix it
Follow up to yesterday's battery
Ok in the attachment is my usage today. As you can see it is totally what I would expect from the phone. I got it to that point by disabling Google Now. That kind of stinks however, I can actually use my phone without being nearby an electrical outlet all the time. The other thing that works well is how much cooler it is to the touch under normal use. Normally it was quite hot. I work in a basement(3 bars with LTE) so my guess is Google Now was always trying to utilize location (even if it wasn't immediately obvious) on the screen via the indicator and thus would just kill my battery especially when I would pick it up to use it with the screen. I wish I could use Google Now but perhaps I can slowly bring back some of it's abilities and find a happy medium.
I'd also like to make note that I am still utilizing the power saving features for Jelly Bean along with JuiceDefender.
No offense but I cant read that battery thing you got. I cant see how long you used it or anything, all i can tell is your battery is at 70%...
-edit- i think i might have got it, 7h or so?

Yeah my apologies, the timeline is on the X axis at the bottom. Unplugged at 7am, and at 2:32pm it was above 70%. Pretty drastic difference since normally the last week or so I've been hitting 70% at about 9am.

Sounds more in line with what im getting... Though i have Google Now on... Weird.. Very weird
GSam is a bit nicer and free FYI so you might wanna give it a look
how much playback time should I be getting for 720p mp4 files? My phone drains about 10% every 20 minutes with power save on, auto sync and all wireless radios off and minimum brightness, I am quite disappointed, is this normal drain?
I had to open my big mouth, Now my One X+ has developed a little problem It wont enter Deep Sleep so yeah... now the battery life isnt terribly great
You guys might wanna check that your phone is entering deep sleep and not getting held awake by something, because now im seeing similar drain to you guys...
Very new issue though, Weird... I uninstalled an app I felt might have caused it and ill see if that fixes it, Currently recharging my One X+ to reset the counters and everything...
According to BBM, It appears to be my Wi-Fi keeping the phone awake for some reason... Next step if the uninstallation doesnt fix things will be to disable Wi-Fi and see if that changes anything

Full battery to 0% while off overnight?

I've seen a few posts like mine but I have not rooted or modded anything on this. I have updated to 4.3. Last night it was fully charged, I turned it off and slept. Today I was at 0%. Why?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
I had this same issue on 4.3, I always turn my tablet off at night when I'm not using it.
I left it at about 45% when I turned it off, turned it on the next day and it was at 15%. It also doesn't vibrate when you turn it off anymore so I have a farfetched suspicion that the tablet doesn't actually turn off anymore on 4.3.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Could be an app that isn't working w/ 4.3 right.. Should be in your battery stats what is eating your battery
Sent from my Nexus 10
I'm on 4.2 and have this issue every once in a while. Happened just two nights ago actually. Put it away at around 85%, next day nothing. Had to leave it plugged in for around 15 minutes before the charging screen would even come on.
I have never had this happen but it sounds strangely familiar to the Red Light Of Death on the Nexus 4. It wasn't common on it, but happened to enough people that if was definitely a real issue.
Essentially peoples devices would go dark for no apparent reason (off), wouldn't power on or anything and when they would plug in to charge it the device wouldn't turn on and the LED notification light would blink red. Most phones sprung to life after leaving it plugged in from 15m to an hour. Upon booting up they had 0% battery.
Sent from my Nexus 10
Similar issue here. Had it at something about 70% for two days and one night. When I went to use it I found that it had turned off due to low battery. Did the same routine again the last few days from 38% and I still have 25% left after browsing the web for an hour. Battery stats don't show anything, perhaps because it died and I had to charge it for awhile (until It got to around 50%). Idk what the issue is, but usually this tablet does really well on standby. Not too big of a deal, but this is like the 3rd time it's happened and I'm afraid that over time this could damage the battery.
It does sound like an app is eating the battery, but I would think it would have to be a system app if we're all having the issue. Media server is quite high on my list right now. (60% with 1d 9hrs on battery and 1 hour of screen time.)
I don't play locally stored content, so Idk what's up with this mediaserver thing. Does anyone know what media server does exactly? googleing it gave me a variety of answers, but local content streaming seemed to come up a lot. lol. Still seems unnecessarily high compared to my gs3's reading of only 6% used by the media server.
I restarted and will charge it again and see if it's still an issue.
sorry for the delay. last night i had it fully charged (took forever to get to 100%) and then unplugged and shut it off... today at 5pm i turned it on for the first time and it was safe to say everything seemed fine.. battery still at 100%
as far as the apps running goes... i always close em out when im done... i use advance task killer to keep it that way. (also use it on my evo 3d). so usually just the system stuff runs in background.. but regardless... so far so good... maybe it was just a hiccup? idk... ill keep this updated for the next maybe 3 nights and let everyone know
Here's some pix off the random issue
