Hi,
according to what Sale adviced you:
- every line constitutes a separated command
- it's not "sumount" but "su" [enter], "unmount /efs" [enter] etc.
Regards

Yay thank you so much except now I have a new problem I can't unmount efs as it is busy how do I stop efs

Ok, try "umount /efs" and see what happens.

Yes I type in in terminal emulator unmount/efs and the replie is umount: can't umount /efs: device or resource busy I am trying to do it in aroma file manager in recovery but that doesnt work either

This is what happens

oh dude there is a space in between umount and /efs like this
umount /efs
there is a space in between

But from you screenshot I see that you didn't put [space] between "umount" and "/efs" so try again with "umount /efs" with space between.

If i am using a terminal emulator in recovery I won't need to type in adb shell or su I'll just start with umount /efs??? edit I need su

In recovery in terminal I'm getting
~#adb shell
error device not found
~# su
[email protected]:/ # umount efs
umount efs: can't umount efs: invalid argument

busybox tar zxvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz -C / for this line to work were would i need to save my efs.tar.gz

Ok I'm nearly there ON the last line see above I get tar: invalid tar magic

I"ve given up as I get stuck on the last line and after alot of googling there is no clear answer on how to fix the tar magic problem I can go back to the standard neat rom with not mods and it doesnt appear to lose its IMIE:laugh:

Do a adb remount before doing the push should solve it.
Thanks
That solved it!

adb remount
"remount failed: Operation not permitted"
you cant do it while in recovery, you have to be booted up.
EXAMPLE to remove Sim Toolkit
adb remount
remount successful
adb shell rm /system/app/Stk.apk
Done...
If you still have problems type adb shell, type su,press allow on your phone screen then try again.
If it shows a $ sign when u type adb shell then u got no root son
................ delete post. ....

You can try it in terminal emulator after su.
Code:
$ su
# mount -o rw,remount /system

Hi.
Samsung Galaxy Ace - FroYo 2.2.1 - Rooted with superuser.
Pulled framework.jar from /system/framework/framework.jar
edited it and now pushing back.
I get
failed to copy 'framework.jar' to '/system/framework/framework.jar': Read-only file system.
I know it's a read-only file system, but I need to push that (and other files) back there.
How to allow that process?
My other option is to "FLASH" a .zip file which contains these files, and I think that puts them in their desired location, but:
What is Flashing and how is it done on my device? I've been googling for a couple hours now with no luck. Adobe Flash is taking all the search results, and some found forum entries aren't helping.
Many thanks, I hope for a quick reply.
Hi, same problem trying to push some libs and framework.jar back to where they originally pulled from. I need to do that for Arabization on Samsung Galaxy Ace running Froyo 2.2.1 with Root.
Error returs "failed: read-only file system"
I've beek googling and searching forums for a couple days now with no luck. Tried many things, commands and chmod which all failed.
The other option, which is to use update.zip on stock recovery to send the files home has failed. Got the following:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing upate...
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip (Status 0)
Installation aborted.
I couldn't install ClockworkMod to try it there because Rom Manager does not list my phone (Samsung Galaxy Ace) in the options it gives me when I ask it to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery into my phone. I don't know which phone to choose form the list:
- Huawei Pulse Mini
- Dell Streak
- Huawei Pulse
- Commtiva Z71 (Boston, blaze, and more)
- Geeksphone ONE
- Spice MI700, Commtiva Link N700 and more)
- Huawei Ascend
Halp.
Oh just noticed I have both last posts. How progress works.
By the way,
#mount -o rw,remount /system
does not help. Trying to copy files using 'cp' commant in shell now simply brings 'file exists'. Is there an 'overwrite' attribute to add that'll fix it?
adb remount worked for me thanks..

Flash recovery w/o SDcard?

How can I do this without a sd card... thanks in advance.

Flash the recovery image?
Root
Adb push a flash_image binary to /system/bin or xbin
adb push recovery.image to /cache or something
flash_image recovery /cache/recovery.img
I'm trying to flash the recovery without a SD card, because my phone can't mount a SD card anymore. So I'm using the recovery here http://www.lg-phones.org/lg-optimus-v-custom-recovery.html and Flash_image to flash it, but I need ADB codes to do so. I'm not very good with ADB, so I need the ones without the flash_image recovery /sdcard/ recovery-thunderc-v-1.2.0-GNM.img /sdcard/ part. :/

It the same thing as tvall has mentioned but I will make it more easy for you.
As mentioned in the link that you have provided, just do this instead:
A) Type in 'adb remount'
B) Copy recovery-thunderc-v-1.2.0-GNM.img to platform-tools directory where android SDK is installed.
C) Do a 'adb push recovery-thunderc-v-1.2.0-GNM.img /system/xbin'
[Now the recovery image is inside your phones memory @/system/xbin location]
Following are the existing steps from the link: Modified step is made bold.
1) mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system
2) cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
3) chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
4) mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
5) mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system
6) flash_image recovery /system/xbin/recovery-thunderc-v-1.2.0-GNM.img
7) reboot recover

This error came because there is no file called 'install-recovery.sh' inside /system/etc. This is fine since you are anyways not going to use that file.

This part I am not that clear but it might be that the recovery 'recovery-thunderc-v-1.2.0-GNM.img' is corrupt or may be 'flash_image' is corrupt. You can also check for the amount of free memory by typing in 'df' and 'free' respectively. df would give you phone memory stats and free would give you RAM stats. Verify if anything is too low.
For the last permission denied error do a 'ls -l' at /system/xbin and check for the permissions.
I will look around to see if I can get some clues till then, lets wait for someone who can help you better.
[ADVICE: Since you are playing around with system binaries make sure you take a backup of /system/bin atleast.]

Other option (if your phone is rooted)
Install RomManager and install CWM or alternative.
If you're not rooted you need to do that first.
After that you can flash any recovery you want and you don't need to mess with adb
You can try to flash a recovery via LGMDP. I've flashed CWM 4.0 by this way.

Can someone with a sd card, and adb, test this out? I don't want to test it out, cause without a sd card mounter, if it doesn't work, I'm screwed. If it doesn't work, I'm sure you have a nandroid on your sd card, hopefully. Please and thank you.

Useful Commands in Terminal Emulator

Hi guys!
I created this thread mainly because many useful things can be done in Terminal emulator. I will show you some simple commands which are useful.
Very useful if you don't have Root explorer when you need it.
Make sure you take a Nandroid backup before you try out just in case you can restore when you do something wrong!
You can get terminal Emulator from here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm&hl=en
Note: Most commands need root. So type su and press enter and grant superuser permissions to Terminal Emulator!
First type this command before using any of the commands below just in case(needs root)
Code:
su
Some useful commands:
Turning device off (Turns your device off very fast!! ):
Code:
poweroff
Rebooting:
Code:
reboot
Rebooting to Recovery
Code:
reboot recovery
Rebooting to download mode:
Code:
reboot download
Forcing Most Apps to install to SDcard(Root needed with Terminal Emulator, no need root with ADB):
Code:
pm setInstallLocation 2
Alternatively, you can type 0 at the end instead of 2 for Auto location install mode or 1 for Internal memory install mode
To check what the current install location is:
Code:
pm getInstallLocation
Mounting R/W in system(Use with caution)
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t /system
If above one doesnt work, try this.
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
Unmounting R/W in system.
Code:
mount -o ro,remount -t /system
If above code doesn't work, try this
Code:
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
Moving files from sdcard to system (Use after mounting R/W):
Code:
busybox cp /sdcard/<path> /system/<path>
Example: busybox cp /sdcard/demo/framework-res.apk /system/framework/
Changing file permissions to rw-r--r-- (Use after mounting R/W):
Code:
chmod 644 <path>
Example 1: chmod 644 /system/app/mms.apk
Example 2: chmod 644 /system/app/*.apk (This command changes the file permission of all apps in the folder to rw-r--r--)
Changing the current directory:
Code:
cd <path>
Example: cd /sdcard
Listing all the files and folders under the current directory:
Code:
ls
If you want to view all the files and folders in your sdcard, type:
cd /sdcard
ls
Making a new folder:
Code:
mkdir <path>
Example: mkdir /sdcard/newfolder
Removing files (For System files, Use after mounting R/W)
Code:
rm <path>
Example: rm /system/app/demoapp.apk
Removing Folders:
Code:
rmdir <path>
Get info of your build.prop values
Code:
getprop
That's all for now. I will add a few more later!
If you have any more new commands or if I have given an improper command, feel free to post it in the thread
Thanks for reading.

That is the use of the bootanimation command. You can stop it either by pulling battery or closing terminal emulator!
But what I did to stop it was to rotate my phone to landscape and somehow close terminal emulator.
But in ADB it is easier to stop using exit command.

BootLooooop!

Hi all, i added some files into the system directory of my kindle fire hdx 7'.. when i restarted it is stuck in a boot loop on the animated Kindle Fire boot screen, i can ADB onto it, and i attempted to remove the files, but "ADB su" isn't working for me, and I'm unable to access the system directory over ADB... and i don't have custom recovery.
Any ideas on this one? is there a way of restoring the Kindle?

mount -o rw,remount /system
if you wil get permission denied you need to do hard reset from recovery and try again
after that you could change files in /system
great, i will try this later.. any guides on doing a hard reset?? keeping in mind that i don't have custom recovery..
thanks again.

you could get into stock recovery by holding power+volume up
all of this suggesting that you are at 4.5.2 and rooted
for 3.2.X hard reset will delete su - file
You're a star. Thanks. I'll get onto this after work.

nope.. that didnt work for me.. do you know how i can push a deb to reflash?
Pls post output to see that exactly doesn't work.
to use that manual you need to use 4.5.3 bin btw
I see, I was having permissions errors when pushing the file to the sdcard, I had mounted the data partition. I am unable to write anything as shell user, but fine as root. Any ideas?
Thanks
adb shell

You cant do this at that way
you need :
Code:
adb push update-kindle-13.4.5.3_user_453011120.bin /sdcard/update.zip
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /cache
cd /sdcard
cp update.zip /cache
chmod 777 /cache
chmod 777 /cache/recovery
cd /cache/recovery
echo "--update_package=/cache/update.zip" > command
exit
exit
adb reboot recovery
thank you but i still get permissions issues -
failed to copy 'update-kindle-13.4.5.3_user_453011120.bin' to '/sdcard/update.zip': Permission denied

Hmm....Strange. Are you see Fire as mtp device on you Pc (for Mac you need https://www.android.com/filetransfer/)?
If "yes" - try to copy update.zip manual into Fire's internal storage.

Did you execute this command as root ? If not enter "su" then enter your command. (Make sure you hit "Allow" when the prompt for you to allow root accès to the shell appears)
And maybe it sounds stupid but try chmod commands if your command doesn't work.
I'm not an expert with android terminal so if the problem is persistent you can try this with a root explorer.
Hope all of this helped
Have a good day

The partitition you want to deal with must be mounted as READ-WRITE before.

How do I do and undo that, will it change any file permissions?
Example:
Code:
su
cd /
mount -o rw,remount -t auto /system
