It's been in the news for months, of course it is. Unfortunate for the time being.

Yeah, you're right there. But all phones are locked coming from Big Red. The real news should be when a phone is released that IS unlocked.

I kinda want to leave Vz But I don't want to lose my fleeting Unlimited Data

The grass is always greener...

Can anyone confirm if it's encrypted or not?

its encrypted...It wont be unlocked unless a leak is dropped.

Someone needs to update me on my nerd lingo
Next OTA Will most likely be sense 3.5 maybe theyll fix their issue there
And my reason to say most likely is that htc sensation has already recieved its leak of sense 3.5 they should expect it between oct-dec and we get updates about 1-2 weeks after them

I could only imagine the whine if they rushed the update and it bricked people's phones or wiped their data.
I know people think everything in life is/should be instant and perfect...but that's not real life.

When we get official release, cm9, or whatever working port that you decide to use bro.
well it's uncertain than, because we don't know when that will be.
Face too unlock is really faulty though. you can easily take a picture of some one and have their phone scan the picture.
but yes ICS

He was told in that thread there's no way out of that. I understand JB has a different bootloader than ICS.

strange..that some people can unlock on jb, some not (excluding people like me, who are unable to unlock in general ^^)
so maybe Asus is providing an updated version of the unlock tool in the near future...a working one would be really nice...

First attempt. I never tried to unlock it on ICS since I didn't want to void the warranty.
I upgraded to JB via the US_epad_user_10_4_2_15_UpdateLauncher.zip flash from micro-sd, and lost root in the process.
Since my warranty is almost over, I said the hell with it and unlocked with the UnLock_Device_App_V6.apk tool from Asus, so I could get root back.
Worked perfectly on the first try!
Good to hear! kwineon's experience had me thinking it wouldn't work.
I'm going to pull the trigger and unlock/nvflash soon. I've held off and postponed the OTA.

Yes it's possible. But not with out an unlocked bootloader.
No w/ out a locked bootloader you can't even run aosp. (Depressing eh?)

It's not that difficult to get. It's just pricey, and w/ the S5 coming out around the corner pointless.

The S5 is even more pointless if you ask me. It's going to come even more locked down than these s4's
Sure people will work hard at finding exploits but its not going to be any easier. Its getting to the point where more an more people will jump ship over to Sprint where you can still unlock the bootloaders.
So what if Knox gets mad and keeps telling you in tiny yellow and red letters during each reboot.

That's a joke right sprint?
People will jump to Tmobile. Unlockable and actually decent and fast service.
Granted the S5 (on vzw and att) will come more locked than the S4 but people (dan rosenberg or someone else) will initially come onboard and find a 2nd init or kexec method. Also vz has the most coverage around the US.

No OEM unlock option in T-Mobile Samsung S9+?

I have a T-Mobile s9+ and for the life of me, I cannot get the OEM unlock button to show in Dev options. I've had my phone for over the 7 days, as I saw you need. I've even tried doing the "change the date manually and restart" trick and no luck.
Is there no option for the T-Mobile version of this phone and it's already OEM unlocked? Can I just go ahead and root my phone without issue? Or do I need to get that button before I can go ahead and root/install a new rom?
If you have the G965U, no you will not be able to unlock the boot loader.. My oppinon, is when all manufactures were done stealing ideas from dev's live here on XDA.. They decided they did not need them anymore and locked the phones down.

You can root, but it comes with big downsides. Search for Extreme Syndicate S9 root here in XDA and you can read all about it.

You can install GSI, but they have the same downsides that the default oreo root ROM included has, if not more. I'm on 10 too lol. I tested it, played around with it then went back to stock. It was neat.

I mean the good thing about this method is that it doesn't unlock bootloader, so it doesn't trip knox. The bad thing about not unlocking bootloader is that you can't install custom kernels or recoveries.
