As far as I can tell after playing with my new Note 2 for an hour now, there is no "blocking mode" on this phone. If I am wrong, please someone show me where it is. I was looking forward to that feature and it's no where to be found on this VZW Note 2. I am not happy about this at all.
ADDED: I see only 7 apps in the task bar stock. There is no Gmail or YouTube for multiwindow use. I also don't see any headphones in the box. Wow Verizon, thanks alot. I wonder what I'll find next?
Nate
I think vzw took it out. Might I make a recommendation? Download an app called AutomateIt - Automate Your Droid. You can do things like blocking mode and more with it. Fantastic app (much like Moto's smart actions).
Blocking Mode is actually on the Verizon Note 2, it's just hidden. I don't know why Verizon disabled the ability to access it in the main settings, but at least we have a way to use it:
Blocking Mode is Present and Working on the Verizon Note 2!
Like everything else Verizon does its all about greed. They charge for a service that allows up to 20 numbers to ring through so why should they allow this to be free on Android, but its ok to make it free on the iPhone because Apple says so, like Visual Voicemail and other features.

Hello, i am starting to become paranoid about going outside with my galaxy tab because i am afraid it might get stolen. I am looking for a good app to let me track any possible thieves like the ones ive seen many times for pc, that let you get the almost exact location where the lost item (phone, pc etc) is and automatically take pictures and screen captures.
The ome iwanted to try is Prey (because it a chilean software, hehe) but for android devices it only tracks the position, but nothing else, and i think it is kind of usseles as yiu dont get a 100% accurate position and it is usseles if the adress you get is a building with 100+ people living in it.
Also another issue with prey and othe simmilar software is the they only work on android cellphones where you have to send a text message to activate the tracking mode, but i cannot do that in a wifi inly galaxy tab.
So, do you guys have any recommendation for a nice software? I am lookin for so ething simple that runs in the background and doesnt disturb me. (and of course.... Free)
Thanks in advance
Samsung actually have features built into the gal tab 10.1 for this.
Go to samsungdive.com. If you are signed into your samsung account on your tab, then you can start using it straight away i think.
In terms of other software, androidlost has heaps of features for free. It doesn't rely on text messaging. The design is pretty terrible, but hey, its free.
Lookout has a product called plan b. It always you to install the app remotely and tell you where it's at. But needs an Internet connection.
I don't think its honeycomb compatible but its one to watch out for.

Another option is Norton mobile security for android. This one I have tried and it works on my Samsung galaxy tab.

I also have the Samsung configured on my tab. Yeah lots of overkill

Did you managed to get it working for Wifi version? It does not work for me.
thanks for all the info. I tried the samsung thing, but it didnt work .
Lookout seemed like a good alternative but it is not supported on tablets.....
I also gave a look at some of this applications (http://lifehacker.com/5832947/five-best-phone-recovery-tools) but they are all phone-related.
Guess we just have to wait a little more for some apps to be released for wifi-only devices............
I have used both androidlost and seekdroid on my galaxy tab 10.1
So there are apps that work on tablets
I like prey
http://preyproject.com/
Very cool, and it's free. It can take snapshots from the camera, use closest wifi spot to send ip address and info, you can sound an alarm or lock the device out. There are a lot of options. It allows 3 devices for the free version.
yeah, i also like prey, but it doesnt work with the wifi only tab as it requires and SMS to be sent to the device for activation

It does work. You first have to add your samsung account on the tab. under settings then accounts/sync, add account, then click samsung account. Its the only way samsung knows you actually have a samsung device. Btw it works pretty good. Best of all, its free,
Tab left on plane
Hi, so what would you recommend to find one left on plane, with sim card but in airplane mode, wait and see if someone gets through the security to see where it is or is there a way of forcing the tab to turn itself on?
thanks in advance

I tinkered with Cerebus on my Tab, seems to work just fine (wifi only). I've been using this on my Android phone. Can attach up to 5 devices.

As long as there is battery, you can track your device's location, log app activity, send a message/VERY audible alarm to the device, take a screenshot, take a picture with front or back camera, a few other options. Obviously, app needs to be loaded on the device BEFORE you lose it.
Works great!
great, i will check it immediately. Thanks!
i just checked it, it looks very good. Saddly its not free, but it is extremely cheap, so i think i will buy it once i get home. thanks again.
AndroidLost is a great app and works perfectly with GalaxyTab 10.1
register your device with your samsung account and use samsungdive.com
works great for sgs, sgs2 and sgt7500
I was using Prey on my laptop and all phones
I thought I'd start a thread to post the top (best) things to do with your AT&T HOX+ on a stock ROM.
Unlock Bootloader, Install CWM Recovery & Root
In order to be able to do many of things listed here, you will need to have root access to your phone. Follow the following thread to unlock and root your phone. By unlocking your bootloader, you'll be able to install custom ROMS down the road if/and when you want.

Disable AT&T Crap-ware
The one and only time I'll give kudos to Apple is that they don't let the carriers load up their phones with preinstalled crap-ware. Sadly, not the case with Android. So, you're left with manually having to disable them. Luckily you only need to it once.
Below is the list of Apps to disable (unless you actually want to use any). Simply go the Settings > Apps > All and select Disable for each app.
AT&T Code Scanner
AT&T Family Map
AT&T Hot Spots
AT&T Locker
AT&T Messages
AT&T Navigator
AT&T Ready2Go
Device Help
Facebook (sorry, Google+ user)
Internet (if you use Chrome only)
Live TV
ME Infiltrator
NOOK
YPmobile
Enable Tether (on AT&T)
Obviously you should have a legit tethering plan with AT&T [chuckle], but you can easily bypass their check and enable it on your HOX+ utilizing the stock wifi tethering app (no need for 3rd party apps).

Disable AT&T ANNOYING Boot Animation
The AT&T boot animation is just annoying, loud and obnoxious. With this little tweak, you can disable it and just have the HTC stock boot animation enabled.

Disable Automatic AT&T WiFi Hotspot
Nothing annoys me more than being close to a Starbucks (or any AT&T Hotspot locations) and being forced to connect to their WiFi, only to get crap to zero connection and then having to disable WiFi on your phone and forgetting to turn it back on later. URGH. Not to mention LTE is blazing fast in comparison.

Use Google Voice for Voicemail
Whether you use Google Voice all the time or not, you can have your phone use its VM option instead of AT&T's. I prefer it because I have an easy archive of all my VMs, easier access from anywhere, and obviously having them transcribed for me.
Normally you can select your VM carrier through the Google Voice app on your phone, but obviously AT&T blocks this. Instead, all you have to do is dial the following:
Activate:**004*1XXXXXXXXXX#, where is Xs represent your 10-digit Google Voice number
Deactivate: ##004#
Replace Default Keypress Sounds
The stock HTC keyboard is decent, but fails horribly at swipe predictions and is very limiting. You have many options out there for 3rd party keyboards, and of course the stock Android JB 4.2 keyboard with swipe. For me, I found Swype Beta to be the best in terms of layout, swipe predictions and other cool little features.
The problem with Swype (or stock Android 4.2 keyboard) is that it uses the keypress sounds found under /media/ui which HTC never bothered to update from the days of Android 2.0. Needless to say they're horrid.
If you find yourself wanting to use either of these keyboards, you can easily extract the keypress sounds from the HTC keyboard APK and use them instead by copying them over to /media/ui.
What you'll notice is that Swype doesn't have a volume control for the keypress sounds, and they're set to UBER high. What I did is take the sounds from the HTC keyboard APK and then used Audacity to reduce the gain by -13 and that gives you a perfect level.
For Swiftkey fans, unfortunately the keypress sounds are stored inside of their APK, it doesn't use the system default.
I didn't post the sounds because I presume they're copyrighted by HTC, so you'll need to get them yourself...very easy.

Got More?
Please add any other useful tweaks that I might have missed (or that I...or others...don't know about). Just keep in mind two things:
Tweaks must work on HOX+ STOCK AT&T ROM
and…tweaks only, no apps
.
Are there any ROMs or Apps designed for use with a phone for kids in the 10-14yo range? I would like for my child to have a phone for emergencies and i was going to pass down my old one, but i can't really find much to lock it down with. All i have really been able to find are "sandbox" apps such as kids mode, kids place, or the like that allow specific apps, but disable all cell/wifi features. These are more designed for letting your toddler play with your personal phone, which isn't what i'm looking for. What i am looking for is to still be able to have cell/wifi, but include: Approved/unlocked apps. Disable the dialer and restrict outbound calls to a predefined, non-editable list. Limited or no marketplace access. Lockout on settings.
There are a lot of tablets that i have seen designed with kids in mind that do this kind of stuff and I've seen similar phones like Kajeet or Firefly, but that would require the purchase of a phone, which i already have and a separate plan. There's stuff like cheap flip phones, but that would still need to be acquired and I figure with all the fun stuff Androids can do they will make sure they carry it around with them.
there was once an app call kytephone.com that did exactly this, but they where only around for like 6 months and then shut down. while the app can still be found in some places and side loaded, its no longer on play store, but it required internet access and a login to launch. since they are shut down, you can't create accounts or login anymore so even a side loaded version is useless.
If it could be done with separate apps to lock down stuff, that would be good too. I know the play store has content filtering and PIN for purchases, there also seem to be plenty of child friendly browsers out there for web filtering, and i could use app lock to lock out settings, but the difficulty i found was with the contact list and dialer.
I would prefer to stay with the stock ROM to keep T-Mobiles wifi calling, but if there's a custom ROM for this, that would work also.
Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?
Thanks.
Howdy. I realize that this is almost 10 years old but - did you find anything? (fingers crossed).
Thanks!
J
Hi All.
I've taken the plunge and ordered my S6 Edge 128gb in Emerald Green.
I'm sure everything will be just fine, but I was hoping for some pointers from the Android users for certain apps and features I use on the BlackBerry.
I've been using BlackBerry for a few years now (Z30 and a Passport) but I'm wanting a change and LOVED the look of the Edge. Just wondering if you fab people could give some assistance in either clarifying what Lollipop does natively or suggesting apps I could use to achieve a similar effect.
1. One of the things I think I will miss quite a bit is the notification light on the BlackBerry. Hence why I ultimately went with the Edge. I know the edge can have notification lights for the top 5 contacts (thats enough for me) showing when placed face down.. however. just two questions connected to this:
* Does the notification light continue to flash if you miss the call / message? i.e. continue until you pick the phone up and look
* I'm sure the notification doesn't work with the phone facing upwards or stood on a stand, but do you think this is something that a rom flash could fix? or even, maybe an app..
2. BlackBerry Hub really is very good. You have all your communications in one location, save opening text apps, Social media, then mail apps etc. How does Lollipop 5 handle messaging? Does it have a similar type of hub?
3. I run an app called Hubb++ on my Passport. Here I can tell notifications to switch off and on during certain time periods. Ideal after a long hard day in the office, get home and my phone automatically goes into silent from 8.30pm until 7am. (except for contacts I've highlighted as important and to break the silence). Again, does Android lollipop have anything like this or is there an app that does similar?
4. Bluetooth connection to the car. I have to be honest and say the BlackBerry really does nothing special in the arena for me. It's a basic rSAP connection type which allows contacts etc to be sent to my car (Audi A7). How is Bluetooth within Android Lollipop? Last time I used Android, rSAP was not working and I had to root the phone and install all sorts to get it going. To be honest, my days of rooting and messing are over (I know, that's part of the fun of Android) I'm too busy these days to spend the time learning and testing etc. I just want the connection to work. Any input please.
That's basically it. Any input and recommendations would be received with thanks.
1. There's notification light blinking on the top left of the phone for miss call, message /SMS or social app/ voicemail, email etc... You can get a short vibration when you pick up your phone and you have miss call or SMS message as well /not sure for other notifications/
2. I'm sure there's some apps you can find for the most messaging services on Google play, buy better give it a try on few and see what's best for you
3. There's apps to switch your profiles according to time settings, but I thing S6 has option to do that as well with detecting your GPS location /home, work, etc.../
4. The bluetooth should be just fine. I have no problem with Audi A5

I'm really discouraged by the fact I'm locked down on this TIZEN crap. Today I shattered my phone, and could have really used the email app 'cloud magic' (my default mail app) so I could limp mode until I got a new phone. I needed to look at some past emails, no way to do this because the cloud magic app isn't available on tizen.
neither is my viper smart start app.
So, it's either time to replace with mainstream, or hack this thing.
What options do I have ?

Thanks. I did the same thing in that pinch of a moment, but it was cumbersome.
I'd still like to know if 1) I can hack the watch so it can utilize android wear or 2) what android wear watches have the ability to receive texts/emails when host phone is off.
