I've installed ftp server ultimate on my SE x10mp.
I've transferred a few file by ftp from my machine (running linux debian) to the mobile. Everything seemed ok, except that after a while the file disappeared.
I've ftped to the mobile with nautilus. Do I need to "cleanly" close the ftp connection on nautilus to avoid this issue? or is there something else going on?
TIA

Disappearing from your Android device, I assume. I'd guess you FTP your file to the device and then try using it as a media file, but can't find it. This is because the Android Media Scanner have not found it (yet), since it is only executing each time the phone starts, and each time it remounts the SDcard, and this is never performed using FTP. Initiate the Media Scanner manually, using some app from Google Play. There are a few of them, myself I'm using Rescan Media.
tnx, but I'll rephrase my question:
1. I ftped from the pc to the phone. (using nautilus on debian)
2. I transfered files to the SD card
3. I can see the files on the mobile (via Astro filemanager)
4. I didnt close the ftp connection on nautilus
5. at some point, the files are gone. I cant find the on the sdcard, even after reboot.
looks like they've been erased or something.
any suggestions?
TIA

Not closing the FTP control channel from Nautilus would not cause this. The file is still closed properly after the transfer is finished. You have to look in some other direction. Broken FTP server, broken file system, broken SDcard, or more likely, something completely different.

My hero is running modaco 2.2, but I don't know how to install my .apk's as sync doesn't work I understand I can run an adb or soemthing I'm pretty much a newb. SO step by step would be nice.
You can put your .apk files on a web server on your PC and grab the files from there using the browser on the phone.
Also you can install an ftp server like swiftp on the phone and then use an ftp client on your PC to transfer files to the phone. Then you'll need a file manager to install the .apk.

why would you do that??
Just cos Sync doesn't work (which is a good thing really, it's a pile o' ****e!) you can still copy the APK files to your phone using the USB cable; just mount the sd card.
then copy them across and open them on the phone using a file manager like Astro.
Sheesh, why do people always try to make stuff more difficult than it needs to be.....?
Ah yes, you're probably right . I don't use HTC Sync here (it doesn't work on Linux), so I thought his whole USB driver does not work so he could not use USB.
But I guess he still needs a file manager to install the .apk files once he has them on the phone, right? I tried to find a downloadable file manager .apk yesterday, but couldn't find one.
Now I have a question how do I run ADB commands like all the ADB-Install "instert apk here" things I've rooted and everything, but I don't know how I run those commands?
A step by step would be nice of everything I need to have, and what the commands would be.
dude, forget the ADB commands.
see my first post.
And BTW, even though HTC Sync doesn't work on Linux, the USB drivers for mass storage do, or at least, my Ubuntu rig running 9.04 happily saw my hero and copied stuff across to it in mass storage mode.
Hello there,
i would like to acess my home network with my x10 mini. There is a connection to my wireless network and internet connection works fine, but I canĀ“t acess my telephone via PC.
Is there any way to copy files from PC over WLAN to X10 mini?
Maybe any apps?
thanks
Yup, there are a few.
DavDrive sets up a webdav server on the phone - WinXP can connect to this (I'm not sure if it works on vista/win7) and you can browse your SD card and drag/drop files
Astro has a plugin that'll let you browse windows shares (so you can copy files from your PC directly from the phone)
ES File Explorer can handle windows shares directly, without needing a plugin.
Any others?

ES File Explorer has worked very well for me for browsing file shares.
I recommend using the WebSharing app for accessing your phone contents via browser through Wifi. Can copy, upload, download, move, delete, rename, etc all through your computer and it's VERY fast.
Can any tell me if their is an app. like Bluetooth File Transfer where it connects to your pc/mac but shows the computers files on the phone not like all the WIFI apps. I have found that you have to access via a website on your computer.
I want to be able to transfer my file to my computer and from my computer using the phone.
Is this not possible with WIFI???

You can try phone explorer (need desktop client too) or <web sharing> (search in the market)
the file sharing app can use your browser to log in to your device storage to upload and download through wifi, however free version can only download and upload one file at the time.
the phone explorer got more function, you can send SMS through it, mod your calender and contact and so on, can download and upload multiple file through wifi to your phone and vise versa.
i would recommend phone explorer, but it quite unstable when your wifi strength is not good or too much traffic on your wifi. So you can try to use web sharing as backup but the function will be very limited.
i use this it works pretty well.
Download "ES File Explorer" from market it works perfect. I'm using it and never failed...

What apps is there to transfer files onto my sd card via wifi? or even LAN ?
MyPhoneExplorer
I use MyPhoneExplorer.
http://www.fjsoft.at/en/downloads.php
It does what you want, via WiFi and also bluetooth. It also has a lot of other useful functions (sideload apps, backup and send SMS, backup phone, etc.) I've been using it since my first SE phone.
Any other suggestions?
adb Wireless.
just run "adb push "path to file or folder" "location to store on phone, unix style."
Or you could try QuickSSHD and a SFTP client like Filezilla.
re
sooooorrrrryyyyyyy
I'm using FileExpert from market.
It creates FTP server and you can transfer files.

im recommending Websharing. But you must have a wifi router .
ETS file explorer does the same. It also has media player, photo viewer and file explorer.
+1 for that
just install samba file sharing, samba its the file sharing protocol of windows dor unix, you can drop files from any computer to your phone using the lan or ip through inet, the icon is a S its on the market i think, PD: your OS must be rooted!
I recomend using Samba fileshring
Its pretty AWESOME!

Samba Filesharing allows you to mount the SD Card as a network share.
Hi guys,
I would like to access some shared files with my SGS2 in my home network through wifi. So i first looked up for some information. I installed the ES File Explorer and configured a folder on my harddisk to be shared.
Once i opened ES File Explorer, i thried to add a new server. So i filled in my ip-address and my username and password from the computer. But ESFE wasn't able to connect to it.
So i went looking on the internet for some information, and what i learned from it was that it worked through a smb connection, but i don't have any clue how to let it work.
Could anyone explain me how to set up such an smb connection and what are the different steps so that i can access the shared files on my computer with my SGS2.
Thx for the help.
Hi, depends on what operating system you use on the computer.
If your running windows make sure you have file and print sharing enabled in networking, and a shared folder. Appart from that smb is running.
Make sure when you connect your connecting to the shared folder as some file managers wont connect to just the pc.
If your runnin mac os or linux itl take some config so youl have to look that up.
Hope that helps!

I'm running on Windows 7 Enterprise edition 64 bit. File and print sharing is enabled.
I turned Windows Firewall off and instead i'm using the AVG firewall. Do I have to configure something in the firewall options?
I installed Astro File Manager and the SMB file module.
I had no problem accessing the windows shares on my local network - just entered IP address, share name, user name and password and it connected straight away.
Ok i found the (provisional) solution for my problem.
It worked to connect when i turned of the AVG firewall, so probably i have to configure something into AVG.
Yeah firewalls tend to like blocking smb. Somewhere you should be able to allow either port 445 or smb or file sharing in AVG not used it so i dont know where but it will be there! Glad you found a solution.
