There are knock offs that look the same but you can not flash or make any changes to the device.

yeah, i tried flashing both odin and heimdall, 1st i tried the heimdall but i can't save the pit.file because of an error so i tried flashing thru ODIN, i flashed the i9100.pit and it PASS in the odin, but after the reboot, the phone is still the way it is, there's no difference.. i even tried the method that uses a pit file, pda, phone and scs but it have an error after completion, i tried reflashing the tegrak kernel, it passes in odin but the tegrak kernel build 25 doesnt change .. i tried reformatting the internal sd, after the format complete, the sd is clean, but after i reboot, the files are back again.. this is so sick. i put an sd card (2gb) on it, and when i take a picture i save it on the external sd.. the file is there i can see it even i boot, but the problem still there, the files in the internal sd is still there.. i tried formatting it in my laptop, it complete, i defrag, check disk, it all says no problem in the sd and the formatting is complete without error, but then when i reboot the phone, all the files are back again.. it consums 11gb in the internal and leaves 400mb ..
EDIT: i just found something weird, i went to a friend of mine who also have a m250s (but already converted to i9100) i checked the status on his phone and found out that i don't have an IMEI and a Serial Number,.. is it connected to my unwritable internal storage problem?
anyone help me please? i can't use my phone
its been 4 days already. i can't use the phone because even though i don't install anything the social hub, gallery and other system applications force closes from time to time.. its really frustrating

SGS1 is supported but not SGS2.
Anyone knows what the deal is?
I have managed to run Backstab on my SGS2. You will have to edit your build.prop or backstab apk, so game will think you have SGS and then use Chainfire3D with Qualcomm plugin to run it.

how do i do that???
You can edit build.prop in many ways. I usually use root explorer. It's located in /system. If you don't know what you are doing, I'd recommend not to, and rather read up a bit on a few things first. The forums are brim-filled with useful information.
How to modify the apk? Guess it's the safest solution

Hi! I edited the build.prop and changed i9100 to 19000 so that I could play backstab HD. I changed ALL the values I could find. Later on I read on the forum that you have to change in only 4 places! Then I powered off the phone. When I restarted, the phone just reached the yellow triangle and after that ..NOTHING! what have I done?!! Is there a way to get my phone back on again? Do I have to flash it? (The option to flash is available when I press all three buttons together) . Can i get my phone to start up without flashing?
Please help! I just bought it last week! I'm cursing myself for doing this without knowing a way out, but I'm sure there is a way! please help!
EDIT: I tried a data wipe from recovery mode. the problem persists! Am I SC$#@ed or is there hope?

Restore from a backup that you hopefully have taken in CWM. If you have not done this you might have to flash using ODIN to get it back working again.
EDIT: Installed villainROM following instruction from
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/4830-GUIDE-Noobs-this-is-how-to-install-VillainRom?
Please ignore the below response. I guess the problem was me editing the build.rop without knowing what I am doing! * hours of trauma are over. Thanks to all the developers at XDA and villainROM! you guys rock. However, let this be a lesson for all noobs like me not to mess with system files without knowing what they are dealing with first! I was lucky to be saved from a brick. Others (And I've read about them) might not be so lucky. Thanks again all. i m wiser now.
OK. I;m trying flashing with ODIN. I'm trying to follow steps in this guide for Indian ROM.
http://gadgets.apnafundaz.com/2011/...irmware-kernel-cf-root-cw-step-by-step-guide/
I got pastthe first step, that is installing clockwork recovery mod. But te phone did not reboot successfully after this. Same problem. It shows the yellow triangle and then just goes blank.
I then did the second step from ODIN, as quoted below...
Extract KE8 Kernel zImage to get the zImage file.
- Put the zImage file on the root folder of Internal SD Card. ( do not put it inside any folder of Internal SD Card. )
- Repeat the steps for flashing the kernel with Odin3 but with SamsungGalaxyS2-KE8kernel-zImage.tar file instead of CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE7-v3.6-CWM3.tar.
However Odin does not go beyond

Hi!
I know that I'm asking about forbidden subjects but I have no intention of doing something stupid just want to understand some things about S2.
That's what I think I understand:
- PIT is a file that contains partition layout on our device, that partitions are later flashed with files from rom package (files are partition images in fact)
- Normally we do not need to re-partition because there is only one partition description available on S2 - so all ROM share it (also it's not recommented coz if sth goes wrong we have big problem - device without partitions)
- EFS is one of the partitions and it shouldn't be touched (contains IMEI etc)
Here is my question:
Some people flash ROM with PIT and repartition and still have working device - how is it possible ?? - re-partition should wipe everything including EFS.
EDIT:
One more thing - when exploring XXKP8 rom package from sammobile.com noticed that there is PIT file and some file named
I9100_EFS_I9100XXKP8_CL42141_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
that contains efs.img file I wonder what is this file for. Some generic EFS image ??
Regards
Slig
The pit is used for partition mapping, basically telling the program which block device is which partition. You dont need to use the pit as Odin can pull it from the phone, this also prevents people from using i9000 pits (sgs1, and yes this has happened)
Efs has both generic files and device specific files, I think.

The recommendation is not to flash PIT file or repartition unless you know what you are doing .
PIT does not wipe EFS .
Their is a PIT file description post on the forum .

Yes, I'm fully aware of that. I'm just the kind of person that like to know why so I decided to investigate this subject deeper. Another thing is that I'll probably try to use heimdall and that program requires better understanding than "use PDA field in Odin".
You can just flash a .pit file and check repartition. You just have to make sure your flash won't fail. If you have faulty drivers or a damaged usb cable, then it will brick your phone.
If you want to try it, make a flash without .pit and repartition and if it works you can use them. Its just something unexperienced users should not use.
Unless something changes, we don't need to repartition, (one case might be if android plus tw is bigger than 500 ish megs Samsung would need to make the system partition bigger) so we just don't need to use it, and making the risks sound worse it keeps newbies away.

Very interesting informations that answers many of my questions.
Hi,
Couple days ago something strange happened to my sgs2. I had about 300 pictures in internal /storage/sdcard0/DCIM/Camera/ and now i cannot access it. File structure looks ok but i cannot make any operation on pictures (open, copy, move) because i got following error:
Code:
/system/bin/sh: cat: 20141203_152954.mp4: I/O error
When i run dmesg then i see multiple lines as follow:
Code:
<6>[ 107.195656] mmcblk0p11: rw=0, want=8631652, limit=8626176
<6>[ 107.195687] attempt to access beyond end of device
<6>[ 107.195712] mmcblk0p11: rw=0, want=8631596, limit=8626176
<6>[ 107.207911] attempt to access beyond end of device
<6>[ 107.207941] mmcblk0p11: rw=0, want=8631596, limit=8626176
<6>[ 107.210995] attempt to access beyond end of device
I copied whole mmcblk0p11 using dd and tried to restore images using scalnel, magicrescue, recoverjpeg but I got just some old pictures, not this which I want to restore. I also mounted this image and tryied to restore from it using other tools but this also failed. After all I opened one of image file in hex editor and it looks that about first 500B is filled with something but rest of file is filled with zeros...
I also i runned fsck_msdos from rocovery mode without success.
On the internet i found that "attempt to access beyond end of device" mean that file system is destroyed and i have to resize partition to repair it.
And now i stuck because I have no idea how to do it in proper way (to not lost my data).
If anyone can describe guide step by step how to repair it, it will be great
I am using offical samsung rom on gt-i9100, android 4.1.2, kernel 3.0.31, I9100XXMS7
If you want to resize your internal sd use .pit files
1. Go HERE and download pit for you.
2. Open odin on your pc. Put pit file on odin and make sure you ticked re-partition.
3. Flash a kernel on pda section (Ex: siyah kernel)
Done!
After that you have to flash your rom
But I think this is unnecesary. just re-format your internal sd

Thanks for the reply.
But I think yo did not catched one important thing....
I have really important data on sdcard and i do not want to lost it. Re-format can destroy all that even recovery specs will not retrive this data...
If your download count is zero you can recover images and even sue samsung

Yes.. Delete the .md5 from the firmware file..now extract it using winrar...now delete the hidden.img now use this toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3101195
To make your own firmware and flash it with Odin..
Chik0 please give Feedback if you Can Flash without FAIL.
I tried already with deleting the hidden.img . I deleted the hidden.img with PowerArchiver from the .tar file. It didn't work.
€dit: It worked.
What I did:
1.) Downloaded an unbranded Firmware from sammobile.
2.) Installed PowerArchiver and opened the .tar file with it (removed .md5 before) and deleted the hidden.img
3.) Used this toolkit to flash with odin: http://www.skipsoft.net/?wpdmpro=unified-android-toolkit-v1-4-0
3.1.) Just follow the instructions from the toolkit.
4.) Done

i dont think it will be as easy as it sounds...in the past you needed to be s-off + have a different patition layout to flash
are there such differences in hidden partition ..i mean that it could only 2gb or so..? and rest to data

What do you mean with "to be s-off"? The "different partition layout to flash" is the pit file the OP is looking for
Yes there are differences. I found an article about the new S6 devices and there were screen shots with less data used by the system. There was more data "free" than the whole actual size of my /data partition.
So I inspected my partition layout and found that the biggest partitions of my device are /data (~20 GB) /system (~4 GB) and /hidden (~4 GB).
So I'm looking for a different pit file to minimize /hidden and maximize /data

ah sorry for misunderstanding..if I say in the past...I mean HTC times..I forget to say that sometimes..and on HTC phones you must have security off..while the phones come with and boatloader looked..boatloader can be official unlocked for root and such things but to flash different and selfmade partitions you must have S-off..
anyway so you needs an pit.. I saw the best way is if you are rooted and you needs it for the 32GB model..so I can't help..mine is 128GB..
that's the thing I don't know..is there any possibility to change the sizes of the partitions from the extracted pit from the phone...
and if there is such a thing

Hi,
I own a SM-T365 tablet with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. I want to repartition my tablet so the size of the data partition will be smaller.. it has 11.9GB and i would like it to be around 3GB and all the remaining free space will be unmounted for now.
I searched for a solution and found that I need to edit the PIT file and then flash it using Odin.
I downloaded the original PIT file and tried to flash it and it flashed successfully, then i tried to edit the PIT file using PIT Magic v1.3.10 but any change I am doing results in fail to flash the file..
When i try to flash the new PIT file using Odin it fails with the message in download mode: "SECURE CHECK FAIL: PIT".
Can anyone point to me what am I doing wrong?
Is there any other software to edit the PIT file?
