I've read some threads throughout XDA about emulators but nothing that I want answered, has been. I have a laptop, a pretty nice Medical Tablet currently running Windows 7 (which it was made for XP hehe but it has good enough hardware to run 7). I don't need 7, I just cannot stand the outdated crap.
BUT, the only reason I have that laptop is for automotive tuning. I run 1-2 Programs, very small in size. (http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=36&Itemid=58 and http://www.evoscan.com/ <--Android App being designed )
One piece of hardware attaches to the USB port of the laptop called an Open Port 2.0. It requires a couple drivers which I have. And The Android devices I use have the USB Host abilities but require something like a powered hub or powered cable since the Galaxy Tab 10 doesn't have power out.
So my questions are.... is this possible? The Galaxy Tab 10's screen is more than large enough for my needs. I wish they would make an Android Application for the Tuning software. Hell I've been asking for a Linux Application for a while. If I can eliminate my only need for that laptop, I'll sell it and.... IDK buy myself another tab, maybe donate to some of my favorite developers.
what are your thoughts? Is drivers an ability in one of these emulators for say Windows xp? Or anyone wanna port over my tuning software ? lol
I intend to install Ubuntu on my phone and then use a docking station at work to run as a PC.
There are two issues I need some advice on from the good people at xda...
1) I've tried two different USB3 universal docks with an Ubuntu laptop but could not get the attached monitor (via displaylink) to work with Ubuntu 13.04. Ethernet, and USB devices (keyboard, mouse and flash key) work fine.
Anyone found a usb dock that works with Ubuntu 13.04 pre-release?

The dock would need to be of the USB 3 variety so it can be used by laptop owners also. All of the universal USB laptop docks do not seem to charge the docked device (since they expect a laptop not a smartphone/tablet).
Some rough motivators for a business
Rough costs in Australia for us would be
Current User
Desktop User : Desktop plus smartphone (nexus) = $700 + $400 = $1100
Laptop user : Ultrabook plus smartphone = $1500 + $400 = $1900
Future User
Ubuntu phone plus docking station = $400 + $200 (say) = $600
Some of this saving, I would expect to go into Canonical support agreement & unlimited phone plans

I don't really understand what you're trying to say here. Assuming you're talking about Ubuntu for Android, the only way to get this to work as soon as the Ubuntu for mobile image is out, is by porting it to a Motorola smartphone that supports Motorola's dock like the one's Canonical uses in their. Or you could get a smartphone that has HDMI.

I have had no luck locating a USB universal dock with which the latest Ubuntu supports the inbuilt displaylink video adapter. Also, none of the docks seem to provide charging over USB to the host device, only the peripherals.

It's not even out yet so it's not a good idea to get a head start.
You're probably correct.
I'm assuming that the OS that boots on the phone is a full Ubuntu 13.04 kernel.
On that basis, I've been testing universal docks with my laptop running Raring Ringtail prereleases.
I expected they'd just work but so far not.

And the Nexus 7 has been a useful test also of the Canonical image for 13.04.
Using a USB OTG cable, I could see that the behaviour was consistent with that of a laptop on the universal dock. Ethernet and USB ports were passed through to the nexus 7 and operated as expected. The displaylink video support seems to be lacking at present.

I can completely see the merrit of your research, and I think you're going down the right path. I too will be looking at implimenting something similar at work, as it just makes sense! I think you are correct - working to find a dock that works with 13.04 on desktop/tablet will be of benefit for docking Ubuntu for Phones, especially the Nex7 as it's running ARM processor. I'll do some research time permitting myself, see if I can get anything working. I only have a targus USB 2.0 dock to play with currently though.
Some more information on this.
Apparently any USB3 docking stations consisting of the Displaylink DL-3000 series adapters DO NOT SUPPORT linux.

It seems like the best bet is to plug a DL-195 series adapter into the USB hub of a DL-3000 based docking station and then your Ubuntu superphone should detect that.

get the minihdmi to hdmi adapter that has the extra hole for the power. I use that connected to my dock with bluetooth keyboard/mouse plugged into the TV running the ubunut via chroot.

I think an MHL to HDMI adapter should do the trick. I picked one up off from Amazon for about $3. We'll see how it does when the Ubuntu Phone OS image is released for the Galaxy Nexus.

So I have this HP Thin Client (T5545) freebie from work that has been in my possession for a few years now, and I thought it was pretty proprietary, but I pulled it out of the bin in the garage today and it appears it is a 1GHz Via Eden proc (x86 compat?) with 512MB IDE-FLASH, and 512MB of RAM, DVI & VGA running an HP proprietary Linux distro. The RAM is ddr2, easy-fix, but with my Roku being so old I thought to myself what I can do about this, and I have already run a few ISOs of x86 Android and Slax off of USB, but none of the Android distros have wired Ethernet drivers built in (VT6120/VT6121/VT6122). VGA/DVI is a Via VX800/VX820.
If any of you know an Android build that would work with Netflix and wired Ethernet, please let me know, and I would also need support for one of those programmable IR dongles for a IR remote (doesn't matter which one, but up, down, let, right, back, select and home would be required keys ).
Are there any Linux appliance distros that run Netflix okay? (In know you can drop a VM in Ubuntu?, but looking for more of an appliance feel.) That would be an IDE flash-drive upgrade, AND a RAM upgrade costing more than a Netflix appliance... which is what I was planning for before discovering the hardware in this thing.
What would you do with it? I am thinking that if I have no real options for watching Netflix on this little-beast, then I might just make it a tucked-away and hidden Linux backup rig for a secondary FTP location of motion detect files from my security cameras.
This thing zips along pretty nicely even in Knoppix booted from USB, so I am guessing the hardware is at least moderately good, although I know the "Chrome" video is pretty crappy, but should be good enough for DVI output of Netflix?

Single core VIA cpu etc
So the first thing thats been bugging me is that i bought a RJ45 to USB adapter and it doesnt work on my tablet.
I turn off wifi then connect everything and nothing. Anyone knows why ?
The second is it worth it to root my tablet ? Even if its only to get rid of asus app´s ?
If i rooted would i be able to install Android 4.3/4.2 because i got the 4.1 version so the newer ones are better yes ?
Is there any kind of newbie guide to rooting this tablet ?

Sorry if i didnt explain correctly
On their home page it said "Old dog, new trick. Revitalize your seasoned hardware", so I'm thinking of running it (from USB drive) on my old PC, but then the minimum requirement of USB 3.0 drive struck me, old PC's doesn't have USB 3.0 ports. Will it work at all or refuse to run? If it does work will it run acceptably good? I can run Xubuntu and Linux Mint from livecd without problem on it with USB 2.0 drive, I think it should work the same isn't it? Anyone tried it?
PS: Yes I know I should just have tried, but it's not a small download for me, and asking first reduces the chance of it's not working to compatibility issue only instead of USB issue.
Hard drive will work fine in USB2

My first try of Remix OS (Alpha) was on a USB 2.0 but don't expect it to be fast. Booting, web browsers and the Spotify app mostly struggled and made the OS crash/reboot
