[Q] Backing up stock firmware before roms. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Imgur.com/fqylJ
Hi there. I had an i9100 running RevolutionRemix for a long time. I purchased an i9300 last night. The big mistake i made the first time around was not downloading my stock firmware for the correct region incase i ever wanted to revert.
How can i tell which stock firmware and kernel to download off the xda forums before i start rooting?
Here is an image of my About Phone
Thanks in advance folks!!
Ps i cant post links. Imgur link at top of post

Well if you read any threads, many say how.
Flash CWM (clock-work mod) on your phone then boot into recovery mode and do a backup, I believe the S3 tools also have a method.

Thanks, i know about CWM, but actually i wanted to download the official firmware to keep on hand. For my i9100 it would have been on a page similar to this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
I guess i just was hoping someone on here would know which firmware i should download by what my About Phone screen said.
Anyone?

take a look at this for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13880069&postcount=12
my version is ... KDC... but when i connect via kies, i get the same message
Once again:
When a firmware, which is newer than the one currently on your phone, becomes available on Kies the program will detect it and allow you to upgrade provided you have not mixed and matched modem/csc/pda from different firmwares. Think about this, how the hell can it update if there is nothing to update to?

excuse me but i disagree here because : my version is i9100XWKDC... on kies they say that the new one is.. i9100XWKE2 ... and then again they say that my device version can not be upgrade... so, the new one is different than mine and i still cant get it.. WHY?????

What is the CSC for the device?
because i dont understand your question ) ( silly blond ) i will give you all the letters and numbers : PDA:KDC/PHONE:KDH/CSC;KD1(XEU) i9100XWKDC
Where in the world are you?
BULGARIA
no answer??? i am waiting for your sentence
I think it's to do with Samsung's servers. I just connected my phone after installing KIES again and where it used to say before that I have the latest version of the software it now says the same thing as yours, this version of the device cannot be updated.
edit: BTW, I work and have a life away from the forum so I may not respond to you right away. I just got in from training so if it's ok with you I'm going to have a shower and some food.
feel free, sounds fine for me.. i am going to have a glass of red wine

[Q] 3 UK White Galaxy S 2 root

I have just started to use android. Galaxy S 2 is my 1st ever android device gifted by my wife on our 2nd anniversary. Even though it was bought in Lahore, Pakistan; it is 3 mobile UK branded gs2. I was about to root it watching this video: youtube(DOT)com/watch?v=KNVE0UDe-bQ
I realized that since this is branded and I cant even update it (which could mean that it is locked), I may not be able to root the device following this video. Also, I am confused since my device's build number and kernel number are pretty different (screen shot attached).
Can someone guide me easy to follow exact steps to root this device safely? If I mess up, my wife will use the brick on me .
What software would I want?
Where will I download the software from?
Where will I get the insecure kernel from?
I so want to use WIFIKILL at office

Look in the Original Development Section for CF-Root, this has everything you should need and good easy to follow instructions....
Read the OP fully Before you try anything!

There is only one issue here.. I do not know what the ODS is as I am new here. It would be nice of you, if you would guide me with links?
You can remove network lock AFTER rooting. You can root using cfroot but ChainFire has only released cfroot for stock firmware not branded 3 firmware so you will need to flash to stock firmware, root, rhen use the network unlonk in the market. I found the CF one didnt work but the other one in the market works.
After you have done this then you can use ClockWorkMod (added with cfroot) to flash the gtalk with video.
There is alot to learn...

can root i9100G not? coz i having a problem on it
Thanks Rajesh. Let me show you the crap apps I am dealing with. The guide you are have referred to; will it work for my branded GS2?
I have another question. Can I de brand the device and get rid of all these apps without rooting it? I will not be able to use wifikill, but then if this is more complicated then rooting a non branded S2; I guess I will have to live with this! HATE IT!
Phone is now rooted!!!
Thank you everyone! My phone is now rooted and I am all set!

Have you flashed LQ5 leak or the pit file that came with it, if so, OK, so like a million others you obviously flashed the LQ5 8gb.pitfile at some stage, probably flashing the leaked lq5 rom, and the issues with your storage are because you didnt read the posts before you flashed, especially the one that says you dont need to flash pit files.
So what you need to do, is browse to the general part of the s2 forum, and look at the lq5 posts relating to these problems and go from there, yes, its fixable, csc, could be dependent on how the rom was flashed in the first place, my advice tho is follow the fix guides in general forum and all should be good.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, NO-ONE else flash this LQ5 pit file, stop it guys, you really dont need to flash it, and it really makes me wonder how many of you actually read and understand what youre doing before you even plug your mobile into the usb port!. XDA guys, everyone who contributes, provide so much info, help and great guides, its a complete waste of their time if yous dont read first..............
ok thank you for your replay, i'm back to 2.3.5 and now CSC list is avabile for me, i have only Storage issue
anyway thank you for your replay
ok [SOLVED] i solved the problems, thank you
CSC: solved by return back to 2.3.5 ROM
Storage: sloved by flashing "I9100_FIX_emmc_EXT4.pit" read thread here:

Odin FLash hangs at NAND Write Start

FIXED: My own stupid. I also have a SGS2 and was using the wrong image as they a named similarly and reside in the same folder.
Hi all,
I wanted to flash teh stock Firmware to my S3 and Odin hangs at NAND Write Start.
Phone: Galaxy S3 International Version
Carrier: O2 Germany
What I have done before:
1. I was tired of waiting for OTA updates by my Carrier so I went to samfirmware.com and flashed the latest Firmware they had for my Phone (German Open; XXALF6). - No Problems
2. Since I like root, I flashed CF 6.4.
3. I installed TriangleAway and reset the flash counter.
Thats it, no further modifications.
Now, since my CSC actually seems able to deliver OTA updates and I want them, I decided to get the original Firmware from samfirmware for my CSC (XXALE8). But when I try to flash it via Odin, it hangs at "NAND Write Start" without any progress.
When I get bored and simply disconnect the USB cable, this does not hurt the phone, but i want the original Firmware on my phone again.
Any suggestions? I am open for anything but would prefer if it didn't involve wiping/factory resetting the phone.

Can't connect to my Network Carrier

Hello! I badly NEEDED your help guys!
My Device is Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300.
I have installed a new firmware, its android version is 4.3 and an open line version for Philippines.
But it can't make and can't receive call and sms. (I have tested all the 4.3 version that is open line from sammobile.com, but it didn't work to my carrier)
The only solution I think is to flash a new modem, or to bring it back to its default stockrom which is 4.1.2(this device is bought from Israel, but it works to our carriers in the Philippines.)
The picture below is the screenshot of my device before.

@jphilip04: is IMEI, showed in settings, the same as shown on the label under battery?
@rp158, yes sir, they were the same. What should I do now? Please.
@jphilip04: go back to your last firmware with working net access (with Odin). If everythings works fine there, let it update to 4.3 by KIES. If you still have net access, try to install your Phillipines-firmware.

@rp158, The problem is, I can't find the default firmware from sammobile.com. Because my device was bought from Israel. I tried to search it on google, but theres' no link that can direct me to download the exact firmware with the exact modem version.
But before I did anything on my device, I also did a nandroid backup to my default firmware thru TWRP recovery .
@jphilip04: I find on sammobile.com Israel-EMC2-build. So what?

@rp158 And what about the baseband version? Is it I9300JKEMC1 too? because I can't find the firmware with the same BASEBAND VERSION: I9300JKEMC1 on sammobile.
@jphilip04: not important. If you loose IMEI with old firmware, do nothing with OTA or KIES but flash immediatly the actual Israel-firmware with Odin.
