I thought I would share a productivity idea. Any ideas to expand on it or alternate more productive ideas are welcome.
Last night my wife started rattling off %^$^ for me to do today (Saturday) and it hit me: Write it down with the S-Pen. That set me on a journey to make this idea productive.
This is the result: In settings, I setup the Page Buddy and S-Pen to allow an "S Memo" popup to open on page Buddy whenever I extract the S Pen. This way I can instantly take notes as fast as possible. I realized the notes are saved in a proprietary file format (forget what it is - but its worthless if you want to access the note file anywhere other than the GN2). I then discovered Evernote which allows syncing of notes across platforms such as the GN2, desktop, tablet, etc.
SO, the workflow is to pull out the S Pen, write the notes, then select "share via" under the menu key, select PDF, then select Evernote. Done. Your note is now a PDF file saved under Evernote and synced across devices. Please note - you cannot use the "sync [to Evernote]" option in S Memo because all that will do it sync the actual note to Evernote in its native file format and Evernote cannot open it. You must do the "share via" method.
This seems to be the fastest way I found to take handwritten notes on the GN2 and make the notes available cross-platform.
It would be nice if we could use the S Pen direct into Evernote. Maybe one day.
Anyway thought I would share that wisdom. As I said open to modifications to this idea.
Adam
Thanks for sharing. Can you edit the PDF in Evernote?
I don't use Evernote, and have only given it a quick look. I use Astrid because of the reminders, and the ability to set multiple and periodic reminders for tasks. I just did some searching on the Evernote site and saw that earlier this year they said they are working on adding reminders, and were hoping for a release this year, but didn't have anything more specific. If they can add similar reminder functionality to Evernote, this could be really useful for me.
Thanks for sharing. I use Evernote all the time, and that sounds like one of the best ways to get handwritten S-Note stuff in there right now.
When I had the HTC EVO View with the Scribe pen (pretty much the same thing as the S-Pen, except larger), the native HTC memo app was actually a special version of Evernote. You could log in with your Evernote account and everything synced automatically. It would be nice if Samsung could do something similar to integrate Evernote into S Note.
---------- Post added at 11:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:55 AM ----------
You can also share it has an image file to Evernote as well. PDFs don't open in the Evernote app (although opening them in another app really isn't much of a problem), but images do. Just depends on what someone is looking to do.

Hi,
I thought I'd seen something, somewhere that I could:
- go into the Notes applicaton
- hardwritten a shopping list (for example)
- sync to Evernote
- use Evernote for Windows to retrieve the documents from the cloud
- search for an item from the shopping list to reveal the document.
Something about this is all possible due to the way Evernote processes the image it can work out in some cases words. Now if that fantasy in my mind or is it that my handwritten on the Flyer is that bad that Evernote doesn't stand a chance?.
Thanks
Iain
I didn't check it now but Evernote search text also in handwritten notes.
If you are asking if Evernote will search your handwritten notes, the answer is yes. It does a pretty good job. I would say that it gets it right about 80% of the time even with my poor handwriting. The better you are at block letters, the better the results.

OK Thanks.
Any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong then please?
Using 'Notes' I've created a new document and simply written "THE CAT SAT ON THE MAT".
I've allowed 'Notes' to sync with Evernote.
On my Windows PC, I've had Evernote on this sync, and it successfully picks up the new document. If I then use the Search feature it find no documents, unless the word I was searching for was typed, or contained in the insert header or footer (ie top in which reads "Note: This is a screenshot of the note that you created on HTC Flyer.").
I've attached to this post an image of the written document.
I'm only using the free version of Evernote account.
Any thoughts please?
Thanks
Iain
Worked for me. You may have to wait for Evernote to run the OCR if you're just on the free version. This search was done a day after writing the note.

After one day it worked for me.
Thanks all. I now understand and it's working.
I'd read in the Evernote instructions that the image would need to processed for searching, and that Premium users had priority.
I'd thought however that once the document was available within the Evernote client that this mean't that the search processing had occurred. In fact the document will sync almost immediately, but ( I think ) will later resync to update the search information.
As SciFlyer said, once it's working it does work rather well.
Thanks again
Iain
Anyone know?
Thanks

Not sure, yet you can DL the file of course. i use Polaris Office due to working easily with MS Office.
Can someone post the apk for this app? I want to use it on my Xoom.

Anyone else have any idea about syncing?
thanks

It sure does! I sync between my Jetstream, the web, my Windows laptop, and my rooted HTC Incredible.
I have HTC Notes and the Evernote Android App on my Jetstream. You don't have to, but they each have a couple cool features that the other doesn't offer... By the way, having both installed has not led to any conflicts with syncing as far as I've noticed. Here are the couple of cool features IMO...
HTC Notes on Jetstream:
Timemark recording - open or create a note > hit record audio > write down "need to verify the numbers he reported". When I review the note after the meeting, I can jump right to the section of audio that was recorded at the time I made a particular text or ink (scribe pen) entry.
Calendar linking - I can link a note to a calendar entry... This makes it easy to recall a note specific to whatever meeting I happen to be in. I can also create a new note from a calendar entry. This only links with my calendar on the Jetstream I do not see the linked item in outlook on my PC for instance. I can still find the note in Evernote on any of my devices though.
Android Evernote App on my Jetstream:
Notes does not have the format functions I've come to depend on in my notes. The android app has the basic text formatting features like Bold and font sizes. No big deal until you have to live without them... I use formatting to categorize things withing my notes all the time. When it all looks the same, I get lost in all the noise.
The android app also has more complex formatting like bullet points and... CHECK BOXES! No such thing as notes without action items and this has become a crutch for me!
On a side note... I've used an iPad2 and a Xoom and never found either to be the go-to device that I could take from meeting to meeting. They were great for checking email and accepting meeting requests, but my phone was better... and more discreet. This is the first time I feel like I've invested in a business enhancing tool vs, a fun media, web, etc. tool. My take. I can't wait till a decent case with integrated scribe pen compartment comes out!
Cheers!

Anybody know a calendar application with pen support?
Don't need to sync with google or anything like this. I just would love to be able to see a calendar like one of those paper wall calendars and be able to write notes on it with pen, draw, cross days etc. The usual stuff that people do with wall calendars. Ability to add reminders would be nice to have, but not super important.
I wonder if something like this already exists. If it doesn't, I think it will be a great idea for a creator of Quill. What do you think?

A desk calendar style app that allowed this would be super cool. I'd love to see it myself.
Apparently the note has something like this. It would just have to be ported.

I checked it out, but S planner is more like usual calendar app. It just works with note app to recognize the text (if it can) and import event into planner.
What would be cool to have is a month/week overview, where you could just tap on a day and make the entry in the calendar in a quill style. Just think of a paper calendar. Sometimes it is just nice and comfy to be able to draw and write a simple stuff in there. You could cross the days when you been sober, put smiley faces when you had sex, add handwritten notes to the past and future evens. At the end of the week/month you could take a quick overview and remember how you spent your time or do a report

Really good ideas, but for someone who uses their Google calendar, a totally new app like this would require me to switch entirely ...at which point, I'd likely have to use only my tablet for a calendar.
A tangentially related idea I had for this quill developper was a widget that you could place on your desktop and that could be scribbled on. That's a little like what you're asking.

You're right. An app like this will be for tablet only and will not have sync with google calendar (but maybe could be saved to evernote). If you're a busy person and everyday is booked, then usual calendar app is a lifesaver. In my mind though one shoudn't replace the other. Google calendar great to keep your appointments, birthdays and important dates and is accessible from any device. Notes can be entered there, but they sort of blend in the whole thing and they are not very natural. I find notebook is a lot easier to follow if you need to write and find something worth noting that happened one day or another. For example you have your appointment tracked in google calendar, it will remind you that you need to be there, you will go and meet people. Notes from the meeting are better kept is a separate notebook along with any sketches or anything like this, rather than google calendar. I could keep and organize those notes in several quill notebooks, but chronological order is lost, can't really enter an info, specific to a future or a past date, an overview for weekly/monthly report is not so simple.
Maybe it is better not to think of it as a calendar replacement, but rather a calendar book or a planner. Quill (or other note apps that I found so far) just don't have organization of a calendar (planner) and google calendar doesn't have functionality of a good notebook.

That's not what I had in mind at all. There is already a note app with a widget. It is a standard HTC note app. As a matte of fact it is the only widget that I have on my Flyer's desktop. It is not as good for writing notes as Quill, but it works and is easy to keep track of important information right on the android desktop. Evernote sync gives me ability to put that same important note on the desktop of my PC - works great as a sticky. I also use Color note on a phone, for those important stickies on a go (too bad there is no sync there)
I use both Quill and HTC notes. HTC notes are great for important stuff that I need to keep track of. Quill has replaced a general notebook for me and helped me to get rid of paper clutter. I love my Flyer. That's the first tablet that helped me to organize my messy desk.
i've only had my flyer for a couple of weeks but i agree that this is a brilliant idea.
it would be nice to scribble things in on certain dates and times.
i wish someone takes this idea up and runs with it
I am currently starting to develop for my flyer. At the moment doing a little paint app with pen support which behaves like a pencil.
From what I hear, you just want a plain paper based calendar and than use notifications etc.? So it could have a link to the normal calendar for those features. Should not a biggie. Will think abou that.
Nice idea .
Ok so I'm curious to know what everyone is using their TFP's for at uni/college or work? are you using certain apps for notes or apps for other work, such as photoshop touch ect, list your top 3 most used apps when at work or uni/college
OneNote - Note taking & syncing with OneNote on the PC at home
RepliGo Reader - viewing and editing large PDFs
DropBox - syncing files in general
Honourable mention - HY Reader - best CHM reader for my medical textbooks (I've tested all the CHM reader's on the market, HY reader is probably the simplest to use that displays all the CHM files with correct formatting)
For Work:
--> Better Terminal Emulator Pro (BTEP).
--> jTalk.
--> The built in email client.
BTEP gives me a good terminal and until recently was the only one able to support the keybindings I want (the open source Terminal Emulator can now do that). It has bash, (d)ash, busybox, and dropbear built in but generally I use it with a Debian chroot. That gives me all the local utility of my work station and our development server, while trading raw power (Dual Xeons > Tegra family) for a decent battery. I typically work using OpenSSH and tmux on my system, although any SSH client and screen on the development server would work just fine.
jTalk let's me connect to the local XMPP server and has grown into a reasonable client. Something that apps like eBuddy can't do. This saves me from running pidgin on my work station and missing IMs from co-workers, just 'cuz I use my transformer for most of my job ^_^.
The built in email client because my company uses Microsoft Exchange for the core e-mail system, and I prefer the account sync + push over polling the bloody things IMAP interface. I could also always use mutt or nail locally via that IMAP interface or the web interface in a browser, but I prefer the Android client.
Worth mentioning:
For notes: I use Flick Note and a Simplenote account but intend to replace Flick Note with a custom written client, because it's gotten to be less usable as the "Tablet" support has been introduced.
For files: I use OpenSSH's scp command and Dropbox (workstation set to only sync folders suited for work though).

I'm not using it for the uni/collogue but one of my favorite Apps and even would be in that usecasse JotterPad HD.
A great minimalistic text editor with useful features like undo/redo keyboard shortcuts and a timeline for the last 10 versions of a document as well as .txt and pdf export.

I have used and like OfficeSuite Pro
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mobisystems.editor.office_registered
Splashtop HD
ES file explorer(with dropbox)
Polaris office/ezPDF
repligo reader
Quickoffice
Xspeed player (plays my lecture podcasts at 2x)

I find Mindjet to be a really great app for taking notes for classes that involve many different things that are all interconnected, which is basically all of my education courses.
Jorte is usually my go-to scheduler, but I'm liking Business Calendar more and more, especially their re-sizable and scrollable widget.
Astrid 4.0 Beta (only found here: http://blog.astrid.com/astrid-4-0-beta-tablet-ux-anyone/) is the same Astrid tasks I love, but with a tablet optimized UI! If it only had a scrollable, re-sizable widget (even in the paid Power Pack) then it would be a home run.
Uni:
1. Supernote - greatest app. Just waiting for good stylus.
2. Polaris office - best office., and built in
3. Asus webstorage - 8gb for ever ever ever
ezPDF Reader for reading and annotating PDF (especially useful since my lecture notes come in PDF)
Kingsoft Office for reading and simple editing of Office files
Dropbox for sending project files across different devices
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
Camera - Capturing powerpoint slides so I don't have to take notes.
Jorte - Excellent calendar widget so I can keep on top of my assignments.
Currents - Helping me keep my sanity through long boring lectures by giving me interesting things to read.
No note taking apps or office software. Taking notes on a tablet will never compare to the feeling of pen on paper. Typing notes is just a big no.
I mainly just use my dock for god tier battery life and usb/sd... although I do type the occasional project on it.
AndSMB - Android Samba client
ezPDF - probably the best PDF reader
OneNote - still in infancy, but allows me access to all my notebooks; I find it useful when talking to my colleagues, when I want to show them some results - it is easier to do it on a tablet than on my rather heavy laptop
Repligo Reader
Dropbox
Repligo reader does a better job rendering pdfs that have been converted from Word files than does ezpdf. However, Repligo Reader still has some weaknesses. For example, every stickynote created in Repligo Reader has the author property "Repligo Reader." It does not allow the actual author to set the author property!
Dropbox is great for accessing the same version of my files across my desktop machine, my laptop, my prime, and my phone.
Evernote, Dropbox, and something to use Windows Remote Desktop (splashtop, VNC, etc.)

Quick office HD is supposed to be the best office app for android, but they haven't made it compatible with the Prime yet. Other than that you could just use Polaris to make drafts.
The google cloud print is also useful for printing to network printers, but the computers on the network need to have Chrome.
There is also Blackboard mobile learn if your uni uses blackboard.
I'm mainly just using my prime for doing drafts of assignments and recording lectures when I have an early lecture and cannot fight the urge to sleep. But stuff like formulate pro and the periodic tale app would be useful too. All my lecture slides are released in PDFs so the Adobe reader is useful.
Does anyone know of a way of printing to non-wireless network printers, not using a browser?

On my Note 10.1 2014, the SNotes are integrated into Evernote
This works well for me as I can see my notes on other devices.
Does the S3 offer anything similar? How do you get to view notes on PC for example?
I´m working with Evernote. The new Evernote-App recognizes the S-Pen once it is used to draw with and then doesn´t take the hand as an input device any more. So I can rest the hand on the screen while writing. Evernote syncs with all devices.

Hi, can you please clarify? I have evernote premium as well. I am able to write in the note with spen ( not in the keyboard area) only if i chose new note handwriting. And even then, any touch with my hand still draws on the note.
I would like to be able to write in any normal note with spen, whenever required, and my hand touch to be disabled.
Sent from my SM-T820 using Tapatalk
I am not talking about the keyboard area.
When I open a new handwriting note, I can use the finger. But when I touch the screen once with the S-Pen the app discards the finger touch and it takes ths S-Pen as Input device only for that note.
BTW:
When I don´t have to sync inbetween devices, but use a notepad for writing a whole seminar instead and share it later with Evernote, Onenote oder PDF, I´m using LECTRURE NOTES. Since years this app recognices active pens (to be enabled in the settings) and it can be used like the old paper, with hands resting on the screen while writing. Some years ago on my Note 10.1 this app was the only way to do that (Evernote didn´t recognize the S-Pen), but now Evernote seems to have changed it
Thank you for the answers. I am still unsure about the level of integration between SNote and Evernote on the S3. On the 2014 edition handwritten notes in SNote are automatically copied to Evernote and hence synced across devices. As I find SNote much easier to use for recording handwritten notes, I really appreciate the syncing feature of Evernote that allows me to view these notes on other devices. My question is does this still exist on the S3 or has it gone?
If I have to just use Evernote then so be it but I would much prefer to keep using SNote for handwriting and then rely on Evernote to synch. Regards.
I did a bit of digging and discovered the S3 doesn't support SNote. It has another app called Samsung Notes. This doesn't appear to have any Evernote integration at all and can only be synced using Samsung cloud (which IME is useless) and Google Drive which might work but wont help viewing the notes on other devices. At least with Evernote you could actually see your handwriting in the SNote if not edit it.
Looks like you have to use the native handwriting in Evernote if you want cross platform compatibility now. Samsung really like messing around with stuff and breaking the link with their users. I will look at IPad Pro 10.5 very carefully now.

Try OneNote. The pen works with hand block detection.
