How to set a vertical background? - HTC Droid DNA

Hi all, I just got me my new shiny DNA and my first play with jelly bean. Not sure if it's an HTC or Jelly bean, but I cant figure out how to set a background right. I use an old pic of my Harley which fit perfectly on my old Rez, but now with the funky vertical/horizontal settings on Set As Backround, I can't get it to fit. Is there another way I can get it to fit with out the horizonal bars stopping it?

The image had to be 2160x1080 and you'll want your image to be dead center. The extra space on the sides can be anything because for some reason they disabled scrolling wallpapers so you'll never see those.

Q: Thunderbolt Screen Colors

I'm a new Thunderbolt owner coming from the Evo, and it seems as though the colors on the TB are less vibrant than my Evo. The whites seem as though they are muted a bit or have a purple-ish gray tone to them. Anyone else notice this?
Thx

Your screen is either messed up, or you aren't seeing things clearly. If your TB looks worse than your EVO I would take it back and request a new one.
Right on, thanks...
Is it possible that it's not one of the Samsung screens, I have heard the new ones HTC has are not as bright?
I will take it to the store tomorrow if anything, for piece of mind..

Maybe you're just looking for things that are wrong with it? I don't know. I came from a droid so it's a big improvement for me.
The thunderbolts screen uses warm color settings.

Thanks! That helps... I'm not looking for anything wrong with it at all, I just want to be sure that I don't have a defective one, because while in the store the rep had a hell of a time getting the sim card to take and give me 3G.
Also, I wanted to make sure it was good before I root it...

Samsung are S-AMOLED, which is LED and is brighter and more vibrant than LCD.
You sure it's not just the auto brightness dimming the screen?

Or if you have one of those anti fingerprint screen protectors it will greatly diminish screen quality and brightness

Cool idea for tablet ui

Could there be any way to run tge webtop 3.0 ui on the actual phone screen itself? That would make the dpi problems go away
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
Theres an app called nebtop but i havent tried it yet. So tempting, let me know if that works for you.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
Nebtop is for webtop 2.0 and it just allows you to use webtop on non lapdocks with an hdmi cord. Im talking about running the actual webtop 3.0 on the phone screen itself, not mirroring it to an external display. Doing so would give the effect of a tablet ui on your phone.
Thank you for the response though

For Webtop 3.0 you don't need anything, just plug into HDMI and select Webtop.
@pyroemaniac: isn't DPI have to do with the screen itself and not the UI? and wouldn't running the tablet UI on the phone itself be kinda hard to use
If you lower your dpi in the build.prop you can force ics to go into "tablet" mode but it distorts ui elements and causes instability. With webtop at the right resolution on the phone screen i think could be usable and would eliminate the problems mentioned above with changing the dpi.
Plus i just think it would be cool to use the tablet netflix and other apps on my phone

you actually have the best idea I've seen in months! I wish I had the time to write an app to do this!
Yeah i thought it was a pretty good idea, i just don't know if its possible.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
You could try installing safestrap, back up everything, then flash the Web top to the safe system then booting into it. I'm not totally sure about it, but I believe safestrap uses the Web top partition to load a custom ram disk on top of our existing kernel as a way to boot custom roms with a locked boot loader. Though, I would believe that the Web top would need some small tweaking to run correctly, for input, not sure the touch screen drivers would be included... Etc. But if it could be done i wonder with some additional tweaks if we could build a fully functional ubuntu rom...

Here's something I found for the Atrix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980193
My think is that it should be able to run as an application almost. I unhooked my phone from my hdmi cord one and my phone kept kept the webtop ui on my screen for about 10 seconds and i was able to control it.. though it was laggy

He is basiclly talking a rom or a launcher with the looks of tablet mode, but on the cellphone screen without connecting anything, something like paranoid android rom we have on samsung galaxy note, i personally tried it on a note and its pretty good, would be cool for Razr.
In a way yes, but what i am talking about is we actually use the webtop software thats already installed on our device. If there was a way to open it like an application that would switch us over to tablet mode "webtop" and when you want to go back to phone mode you just use the same app to switch back.
I think that makes sense haha

All we need is a toggle button to flip one bit. The question though is which bit. Perhaps this thread would garner more serious response if posted in the dev section?
I was going to post the idea in the dev section, but people have a tendency to ***** at you if its not an actual product that your posting.

I totally understand that, and you probably WILL get *****ed at, but maybe one dev will think "great idea & i think i know how to do that." Go ahead and clearly post there exactly what you are talking about. Who knows, we could have that toggle by tomorrow &i bet it would get a LOT of press as it would be a whole new interface for Android phones!
This thread is a little old, but I recently acquired a Razr with a bad ESN and cracked but still working screen to use as a HDMI attached media device. Webtop was giving me a few issues, refusing to switch to tablet mode sometimes, so I decided to see if the dpi could be changed to force it into an always tablet mode.
Using a backup of the stock 4.1.2 ROM in Safestrap slot 1, I changed the DPI to 120 and it seems to be working well, apps still show as compatible in Google Play. I'm using Holo Launcher HD and had to switch some settings to get icons looking right.
Here is what 120DPI looks like if anyone is interested.

GOSMS Problem

A buddy of mine has his AT&T Galaxy S2 here and we have been banging our heads together trying to figure out why we can't get the pop ups to work when the phone is locked.
He gets a notification tone, but actually has to unlock his screen to see the popup.
His settings are exactly the same as I have them on my International GS3 and on my One X.
He is running the latest official ICS from AT&T.
Is there some kind of bug with GoSMS and the AT&T GS2 ?
Any help would be appreciated.

Sure do. This one is a mystery. But, probably something simple we are missing. I've only set up GoSMS on about 300 phones so far. LOL.
Well you know more than me lol. I can t think of anything else. Unless there is a secondary lock screen app interfering with go sms, like widget locker.

Shouldn't matter though. Never had a problem with any Samsung phone and GoSMS before.

Maybe because some of us don't have anything to hide?
And we fixed the problem by re-installing a modified version of the stock firmware.

hey all, so ill most likely be driving down to the SGS4 event (as long as my boss lets me take the day off work lol). so I figured I'd ask my home section here on xda what you guys want me to find out. most tech sites will prolly cover the main stuff, hw specs and all that. @supercurio you want me to check any sound stuff? <- lol someone pass that along
anyways ill make a list, and update it on here on what all you guys care about me checking out. i figure if I get the list started now I can do whatever necessary prepwork.

If it's possible could you look for ink spots if using AMOLED or colour tints? Possible black crush test would be handy too.
Not sure if this is at all possible at such an event but would be cool to know
Battery matters, would you check how long you can watch videos from YouTube on 4G with max brightness please? Cheers

Do you guys prefer static or live wallpapers? SRS GTFIH

Curious on y'alls decisions. I'm really in to space (the universe) yet have failed to find a good, high quality space wallpaper (live) that I like. And static images can have a much higher resolution. I love to wow my friends when they see I have a live wallpaper, yet I feel that static wallpapers have their pro's as well. What do you guys think?

I figure any battery drain caused by live wallpapers isn't worth it, so I stay static.

I go back and forth. Most of the time I prefer static wallpapers simply because there's now available. I don't really notice any significant battery drain with live wallpaper though. As far as I know it's only using more battery when you're looking at the homescreen.

Solar System HD Deluxe I've never had problems with battery drain, well one time before I rooted the Fascinate, umpteen phones ago. Not at all on the DNA and screen brightness is almost all the way up.
There's a live wallpaper project that a devloper did involving HD and high quality at that, space images. The developer put a ton of research and development into his project. He believed their was a better way to develop a system from the ground up and from talking to the users it ran very well looked good and was extremely efficient in battery and resources. For all I know you guys might have discussed it already.
I will see if I can find the thread in question it was in the last few weeks I ran across it I think.
If some of you guys are wanting to experiment on some paid live wallpapers or get more info from me, send me a PM. I'm an app collector and might can provide better info than simply reading the play store description.
I can't answer a million questions on every live wallpaper app but if its supposed to be top shelf or the best of the best and you're wondering about it feel free to hit me up.

I prefer the phase beam live wallpaper that comes on AOSP ROMs.
Ever since I found out that live wallpapers drained more out of the battery I stopped using them. Though the DNA is a different class phone so idk how much of a difference it really makes.
