[Q] Titanium Backup restore from last phone - HTC Droid DNA

Ok, so call me a noob....again....But here is my situation
I had to return my HTC DNA To Verizon due to the AUX Jack not working, so I downloaded and bought TitaniumBackup Pro, and backed up all of my apps and data thinking i would be able to restore it all on my replacement device.
I got my replacement device today, i transferred all of the APK (Zip files) and ODEX (Zip Files) to my phone. I went into Titanium backup, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to restore the apps and data from the backup files i have.
Am i missing something, or what?

When you go into TB, go to the Backup/Restore tab and click the square/check mark symbol. Choose the type of restore you want and click run. Verify your options on the final screen, click on the green check mark at the top, and let it do It's thing.

Make sure you set the backup folder location in Titanium.

I did go into Preferences -> Backup folder Location, and directed it towards the location with the backups, and it can see all of the .gz files, but there is a little blue icon that says there is only 1 backup in the folder when there is a list of about 30.

I tried going through there, and i clicked on every single restore option, "Mising apps with data, all apps with data, all system data, ect..." and none of them recognized the backup files that i had in the backup directory, so nothing was restored.
---
Is there something i need to do in order to get TB to recognize the backups, because in the batch restore window it only shows (1) backup, and that was a test backup that I did to see if the numbers would change at all.

I restored all apps from my Titanium backups from my Droid X.
They were in a folder called TitaniumBackup in my Droid X so I copied the entire folder to my desktop. Then drug it to the root of the sdcard folder on the DNA.
I then opened up Titanium and set my backup folder location accordingly. I then hit either reload application or refresh apps list in the menu. It then refreshed the list in the Backup/Restore tab to include all my currently installed apps, and all my backups. The backups were crossed out indicating they are not installed.
That worked for me, past that I have no idea.

Thanks for trying to help, It sounded great and I was hoping it would work, but it didn't Oh well i guess, I have already re-installed everything one app at a time, I guess i'll just have to Re-do Hill Climb Racer allllll over again.
At first, i did just copy the Titanium backup folder over hoping it would automatically recognize it and sync to it, but nope.

Are you rooted? Titanium requires root. I have to ask, only thing I can think of.

Did anyone get this fixed?

Titanium Backup question?

First off let me say if this is adressed in another thread or video, im sorry!
But my question is this: How does titanium backup work?
For example, if I run a full system recovery with TB and then flash the sbf file and then load gingerblur, can I then recover all of the settings and apps from titanium backup? If so, how might one go about doing that?
Another example would be, if I return my atrix for a new atrix for whatever reason, could I recover everything after that?
Thanks in advance for all your help guys!

When you start tibu press menu then batch, then select "backup all user apps" (I think its first). Let it run. Then you can run SBC and Ginger blur then install tibu from the market, open it press menu, batch, then go about 1/2 down to "restore missing apps with data" and start it and when its done you have all apps with settings back.
A also highly recommend buying tibu premium as it makes most of this automated.

Ok thanks for the reply! So titanium backup creates a recovery file on the phone that wont be erased and ill always be able to access it?
Also does it work if I get a new phone?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Yes, that would be my question as that is where I am.
I have the directory on my sdcard-ext; I've copied it to the empty directory of the same name on the sdcard yet I can't seem to get at any of my old backups.
What did I miss in the process? Is there a way to make it LOOK at this saved data?
Well I don't know about not being erased; the program backs up the application and all of its data into a folder. You can do single applications or all of them.
If you are say, resetting the phone or doing a factory reset, this is essential if you want all of your applications back the way you had them.
I'm using two phones and when I got my second, I just installed TB on it and backed up the apps that I wanted transfered wwith data (mostly games and things that don't have cloud data) and copied them to the new phone to be restored.
I just bought the pro version that gives access to dropbox and other things but I haven't used any of the features yet.

I believe TiBu's default location is in /sdcard/titaniumbackup (From root location). Now once you back up your apps all that information is stored in that "Titaniumbackup" folder. Now what you can do is copy that folder and where, even your computer and it's saved. You can even load that folder on a different phone and run TiBu on the phone and install the apps on that phone. Usually when you flash roms or even the SBF file it wont erase the internal SD card, at least I've never had an issue with my internal SD being erased in the last 2 years. Just take your titaniumbackup folder and put it on to you internal SD card and TiBu should recognize it no problem.
As far as how it saves it, I think it saves the .apk and it also saves another with the app settings.
Hope this helps clear some stuff up.
Ok cool, thank you very much for the help!

[Q] titanium backup restore not working

So I upgraded my ROM from das bamf 1.6.3 to 1.8, and backup all my apps using Titanium backup. Well when I restore my apps, they all force close. If I restore just the app and no data, it works. But when I restore the data they start force closing. Any ideas on how to get this fixed?
hmm...I've never heard of this happening before as long as I've used it. You are only restoring data for User apps right? Restoring system app data can cause FC's but I've never heard of it happening to user apps unless the data is corrupt.
You may want to make a nandroid, then load your backup of 1.6.3 and force redo all your backups then load load your 1.8 backup again and restore.
The only other thing I can think of is that TiBu is not setup the same as in the other installation. When you were on 1.6.3, did you select "Auto-sync TB settings" from the preferences menu so that they carry over? Also, TiBu is installed to the same place as before right (/system/app vs /data/app)?
I did not have auto sync setup. I did a batch backup of user apps before flashing my ROM. I tried individually restoring the user apps vs doing batch as well. I am not sure if titanium backup is installed in the same place. If I uninstall titanium backup, will I lose my backups? I might uninstall and reinstall titanium backup from the market

did you make a clockwork backup before going to the new rom version? if so then re flash 1.8 and then go into recovery and select advanced restore and then do data only from your 1.6.3. that should restore all your apps exactly as they were in 1.6.3 and totally bypass titanium so you could at least scratch that off the list if it doesnt work...

No, you won't lose your backups. They are in the TitaniumBackup folder on your sdcard which remains there regardless of whether TiBu is installed or not.

Not a great idea since that would restore all system data too.
If it's the same rom, that would be fine but it's likely to cause problems with upgrades (not always but usually).
Hmm can't uninstall TiBu. It came as part of the ROM I believe. I am kind of bummed to lose all my games progress

That's what's causing your problem then. I've noticed that data backups made with a /data/app installed TiBu have problems being restored from a /system/app version. That's why I initially asked if it was installed to the same place on both installations.
Manually remove the apk from /system/app using a file explorer or terminal (and pm uninstall it if you wish) then install from Market. Then you should be able to restore you backed up data.
If you want to know how to manually uninstall something (other than just deleting the apk using a file manager) check here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barebones

Like I said, if your previous backups were made with a version of TiBu that you installed from the Market then you need to install it from Market again to restore that data.
So, get a file explorer that performs root operations and delete TitaniumBackup.apk from /system/app.
Or in terminal type:
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
rm -f /system/app/TitaniumBackup.apk
reboot
You may have to verify that is what the apk is named.
Anyway, after that, install TiBu from the Market, open it, and restore whatever apps and user data you want.
Thanks for all the help so far absolute_zero. I am having an issue where when I try the mount line, I get a message telling me the flags to use for mount. I am not that Linux savvy, but I am guessing it thinks I have an inappropriate flag set up or something. Any ideas?
I use titanium backup all the time. I flash roms probably every three or four days if you average it out.
One thing I had problems with once before was using titanium backup that was installed with the ROM. Ive done it both ways, restored my titanium pro using the regular titanium in the ROM, and just downloading and reinstalling the pro version from the market. Once I got my normal pro version installed it went like butter. I sync to Google, let the market install as many apps as possible and manually install a few important ones, then filter to user and "backed up". Once I have that list I batch restore missing apps and all app data.
Rooted Thunderbolt on BAMF Sense 3.0 RC 4 with MR2 radio and latest dreamKernel.
Awesome got it uninstalled, and the backups are working now. Had to uninstall it through adb though. Thanks for the help everyone.

[Q] N00b mistake of deleting apps using Titanium Backup... need pro-level help (:

So I finally got my Transformer Prime and rooted it manually using the NachoRoot method because I wanted to get rid of all the ASUS bloat apps. After I rooted it, I installed Titanium Backup (free version cause my Market account is broke right now with purchases stuck in the Pending state) and since I couldn't use the "Freeze" function with the free version, my n00bness thought that if I backed them up first using Titanium Backup, then deleted them, that Titanium Backup would be able to restore them, but I found out the hard way, that wasn't the case... I've since read that it will only restore them if the app is still on the device.
So, my question to the people with more wisdom then myself is...
Is there a manual way to get those apps back on there via the backups that TiBa made?
I tried unarchiving them and manually putting the .apk's back in /system/app/ folder, but I noticed that the .odex file I don't have anymore and they're not showing up in the app drawer just putting the .apk files in there by themselves.
Is there anyone that would be so gracious as to do a full dump of the /system/app/ folder on the 8.8.3.33 build so I can just put the .apk's and .odex's back in there using Root Explorer?
My goal is to get those back in there the way it came stock and go back to using the Freeze method so it doesn't remove them so I don't have any issues when the ICS update hits.
Thanks in advance for anyone who chimes in to help!

i experience with Tbu is that you can batch add apps and their data regardless of whether you have them on the device or not... thats the whole point of it
and there is a dumb i believe in the development area... if i had my cable at work i woulda done it
but as long as you backed up in Tbu, just batch install them all
System dump: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1418487
Also, next time do a NAND backup of possible.
You could always reflash your ROM too.
And yes, Titanium backup keeps all the files you backed up in a folder. So even if you removed it from your device. Titanium has a copy on your SD card.
Thanks for the reply.
When I go into the batch section (I'm now on the paid version of TiBa), if I go into "Restore all apps with data" or "Restore missing apps with data", those both show nothing in the list to restore... but I know they're there cause I see them on the SD card in the TitaniumBackup folder and if I do a "Verify all your backups", they all show up.
I take it I'm missing something or am in the wrong menu?

No, does the same thing as when I try to restore with data... just sits there saying "restoring" but I can let it go for 10 minutes on just one app and I eventually just force quit it since I know it's not doing anything.

Okay, so I downloaded that dump (thank's for the link)... so if I just put in the .apk and .odex for each app TiBa removed, will that do it? Is there anything else attached to each app that would go anywhere else besides the user data (which I don't want anyway)?
If you see tbu app backup stuff on your memory card you may need to go into the settings menu of tbu and change backup folder location to the place where that folder is on your sd

You should be able to push the apk to system to data - the odex should be created in dalvik_cache on boot (you need to rename them if you want to move them into /system)

have you tried putting .33 on an sd card and doing a manual update. I know you already have it on, but if you put it on the sd card, it usually asks again if you want to update.

Titanium Backup not working...ideas?

So i backed up all my apps to my internal SD card. i flashed a new rom, installed TB, and now it wont see my backups. I verified that its looking in the correct folder, that the files still exist, and that there are .apk.gz files in the backup folder. Still though, it wont show any apps when I try to restore all missing apps.
If i install the apks for each app though, it has no problem restoring the data for the apps. What gives?
This has happened on Touch Wiz, CM9, and AOKP.
Any help is appreciated.

I have the exact same issue! I have tried everything and no luck. I created a similar thread and no one has any ideas why this is happening. Please let us know if you find the answer. I pretty much redownloaded all of my apps to just get it over with.
Good luck
Probably a stupid question, but after you changed the path and tripple check that it's the correct path where all your backups are, did you restarted TB/phone?
If you simply hit back button it doesn't actually quit TB.
I am having the same problem. I am noticing that tubular just isn't doing the restores correct at all. For instance I did a restore of Shadowgun and my saves weren't restored. I have never had these issues before I came to the S3

I had the same problem with Titanium Backup at first. My backups were on my external SD card straight outta my DroidX. I assumed /mnt/sdcard/TitaniumBackup would be the right location, but on the SGS3 you have to go to /mnt/extSDcard/TitaniumBackup or manually copy the folder over first. Once I fixed that path, it started restoring just fine.
If you go to the filter, and select Backed Up instead of All, do they show up then?
I had a similar issue. Try removing titanium backup from the Super user app, then run titanium backup again.

It sees zero apps.

folder location is in appropriate place

I redirected the the save location to my external SD card and it worked for me. It may only be seeing your internal sd card

[Q] Titanium Backup Pro v5.7.3

I'm doing an app backup using TB Pro and had a question before I flash MeanBean 1.2:
I'm new to TB Pro and I'm stomped on one of the options in Preferences. Under Restoration Settings > Restore Backups to.. option in particular as I'm not sure of the meaning of the options available. The options are:
Default location (chosen by Android)
Original location (for TB 3.2.8+ backups)
Internal storage
External media
* I can pretty much guess the last two options are for restoring apps to internal/external storage but as for the Default and Original location, which one is for restoring the apps to the location they were backed up from in the first place? This is where I'm stomped. I searched the knowledge base (the wiki page for TB Pro but those guides seem to be for an earlier version of the app and doesn't even list 'Restore backups to..' as an option. If anyone could help me out real quick I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.

I was thinking the same thing but the location of the folder [system data/phone storage/ext_sd] is where I get lost. I want my apps to be restored where I backed them up from and not have them all restored as if I were installing them from the play store, forcing me to move them over to the ext_sd again.
