CM10 will not boot for me!!! - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hello everyone, my EVO LTE is currently running MeanRom and I decided to try out CM10. Well, this is when the nightmares started. I downloaded CM10.0.0 stable with 10/11/2012 and 11/30/12 gapps and no matter what I try, CM10 does not boot. It goes to boot animation but it does not ever finish loading. The steps I took.
1. Download Stable CM10.0.0. (I've redownloaded this 3 times to ensure it's a good download.)
2. Download Gapps (versions list above.)
3. Place both zips on my SD card and also tried internal.
4. Boot into TWRP 2.3.1.0
5. Wipe Factory Reset, Wipe System, Wipe Dalvik.
6. Flash both, CM10.0.0 Jewel.zip AND Gapps.
7. Reboot System.
8. Wait countless minutes for it to load, I get to the CM10 boot animation, but it gets stuck rotating.
What am I doing wrong??? My Phone is S-Off. Any ideas?

Did you remember to flash the boot.img from the CM10 .zip file? It's a very common mistake.

Oh man is this seriously all it is. Lmao.
EDIT: Can you link me to this boot.img? The QBking77 video doesn't mention anything about boot.img.

its in the rom's zip file. doubleclick on zip and you will see boot.img pull it from there onto computer. i have done this as i am on 1.15 but im getting a sync error with my account.
command for fastboot flash
fastboot flash boot "path to wherever your boot.img is at here"

go to the step where it says "Flashing a custom Jelly Bean ROM on HTC Evo 4G LTE"

Could just use flash image GUI. Check the play store.

if you are s-off flashing the boot.img first shouldnt matter much.
I flash the rom by using an application called htc dumlock v2, it flashes your recovery to your boot partition, and you flash the second file to restore it to its original location, but its loaded in boot. So it can then alter the boot partition, and flash the rom without needing to flash it beforehand.
But, again im not sure if im mistaken, but i thought if you were s-off you didnt need to do such things.

Forget that i found out just now, Why not download the newest nightly? or kushdecks release? I LOVE paranoid android, and it is also currently working great (with cm10 features in it, and a tablet, hybrid, phablet mode for the device)
If you want to continue attempting the stable CM10 your talking about you could always try HTC dumlock v2, as it works pretty well for me and installing things like this.
Have fun with your phone!

Try the superwipe zip from the themes and apps section. If this was a boot.img issue you shouldnt even get to the boot animation, plus your s-off so that shouldn't be an issue.
It sounds like an incomplete wipe or a bad download.

[Q] Problem flashing MIUI - hboot 1.5

So I was walking my girlfriend through rooting her new Evo3D, and we couldn't get the phone to get past the 'MI' logo, so I figured it was a kernel thing. After four kernels and two versions of MIUI I realized that it wasn't the issue, it was the hboot.
She didn't back up, she has only had it since last night. I now know what I need to do to flash the ROM, but how can I get her back to stock so I can get the app needed?
Any help?
She has HBOOT 1.5, right?
Go back to the folder where you did all the rooting. Get the stock MIUI kernel (boot.img from the flashable zip) and place it in that folder. Open up a cmd and navigate to that folder.
Boot her phone into fastboot mode. (Vol down + power while the phone is off. Hit power button to select fastboot once it goes into bootloader) Plug the phone into the computer via USB
Type 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' in the kernel. If it successfully flashes, you are done! MIUI should boot up now that it has the appropriate kernel. You will need to do this for any ROM you flash.
As long as you have a recovery, just flash whatever rom you want through fastboot and the kernel will stick.
Or just download a stock rooted rom and flash that the same way you just tried to flash MIUI. It will work since you still have the original kernel.

Well, ROM's cant be flashed through fastboot. The ROM is flashed through recovery. Then you go to fastboot and flash the kernel with my guide above. After that, everything should be working fine.

Hopefully this works! Shes at church right now but I will have her do this ASAP and I'll report back!
(Awesome response time BTW)
Roms are flashed through fastboot just by loading your recovery into fastboot.
I never flash roms and kernels separately. Just go into fastboot, load your recovery, and flash as you normally would.

I had something similar when flashing MIUI. if you boot the recovery.img from fastboot it should work. you may want to re download just in case of a bad download.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
I'm having the same problem as epicchase. have attempted to flash miui many times. at first i tried to do it through my recovery. it didn't work. then i tried to use the fast boot method and flash it from the recovery that i opened from fast boot. i'm quite frustrated. it just wont boot miui, is it the kernel, i'm new to rooting in general but i think i know what i'm doing. i have spent who knows how many hours trying everything i can. i tried flashing the boot.img and the ROM separately. I have successively flashed android revolution hd, but that's no fun, its nearly the same as the stock ROM any suggestions would be appreciated. it boots but i guess it must be a boot loop but idk all i know is it freezes in the middle of the boot animation.
ps. i am rooted using the htc official method (unfortunately) and am s-on)

Did you do a full wipe before you flashed? Find Virus's Superwipe tool (.zip), boot to recovery with fastboot, flash the superwipe.zip, then flash MIUI.

well it didn't work it did the same exact thing. I've been giving it about 10 mins to attempt to boot is that long enough? I'm new to non sense roms I've only ever used sense, is there something I'm forgetting to do that is different for non sense roms. *frustration* (and i thought i was beginning to understand this)
---------- Post added at 09:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:46 PM ----------
okay well i tried to flash cyanogenmod 7 still no dice. I must be an idiot, sorry for being a noob.
this is what im doing.
im placing the .zip on root of my sd card. then opening my cmd.
i then type " cd c:\android" (i saved the recovery image in a folder named android) it says
"c:\android" just as it should i then type "fastboot boot recovery.img"
it restarts my phone in recovery
i press install .zip from sd card then click wipe cache and dalvik cache it goes and does its work
i then select the superwipe.zip it says flash compete however it says error or something but i just kind of ignored it.
i then select my miui.zip that i got from www.miui.us
i then select install .zip files the first thing that comes up is "md5 check fail- ignoring" and the continues and flashes (i have no clue what that part means but i continue anyway)
i select reboot and it starts to boot my phone i get the white screen with green htc.
i then get the miui boot animation for anywhere from 2-5 seconds and then it freezes.
i sit and nearly just stare at it and the clock. i wait at least 5 mins but have waited up to 30 mins.
the boot animation never restarts i just freezes there making me think it is not a boot loop (however the definition of an actual bootloop is slightly vague to me.)
anyway thanks for reading and if you have any suggestions i will be very happy for now im just gonna run my android revolution hd rom.
If superwipe isn't working, fastboot to recovery, go to the wipe menu, not install a zip, wipe dalvik, cache, and factory reset. Don't do the factory reset in android, do it in recovery. I'm guessing you got a corrupt download of superwipe, I would redownload it and try it again if I were you.
Try using this one.

you have to choose one version, download and copy to your device
1. run recovery
2. wipe data, cache, dalvik
3. install zip from your device
4. reboot
i do step by step...still reboot recovery...
have u try it?
Did you install CWM? My buddy had the same problem with rebooting into recovery.

I tried flashing it and it does indeed just reboot to recovery. Have no idea why.
What it actually does is sits at boot logo screen, then reboots to recovery, so it actually bootloops once into recovery each time you try to boot it up.

No, the above WILL NOT WORK!!!
However, doing this will work:
get the nightly from
http://cna.exynos.co/olympus/
get the
beta 0.4.3
faux’s 1.0 kernel -outdated (ignore outdated, it´s the right one)
from
http://www.jokersax.com/developer-pages/jokersax/cyanogenmod-9-atrix/
get jokersax gapps v11
from
http://www.jokersax.com/developer-pages/jokersax/cm9-gapps/
in linux, using Q7Z, unzip the CNA nightly and replace the following folders by the ones from Joker´s beta 0.4.3:
bin
lib
xbin
Re-Zip. Be careful not to alter the zip structure or permissions.
In Recovery, flash your modded CNA.zip, THEN flash faux´s kernel, THEN flash gapps.
Enjoy

Rezound won't boot

I flashed clean rom, flashed the patch in bootloader, and restarted. It is stuck on the boot screen. I did a battery pull and booted into the bootloader, but it is not allowing me to select recovery so that i can wipe or flash again. How can i get back into amon ra?
You will need to remove the PH98IMG file from your sd card and once back in recovery reflash but the patch needs to be flashed through recovery not bootloader.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Yeah, remove the PH98 from the sd and then wipe and re flash the rom, make sure you flash the boot img and old firmware patch. Use fastboot to flash the boot.img if you need to
ok, i removed the PH98IMG file, i was able to then get into recovery and wipe/re-flash the rom, but then how am i supposed to flash the patch if i removed it form my sd? i'm sorry for the silly questions.
You could download it again just don't rename it and flash from recovery.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Don't name the patch ph98 that's why it didn't boot. The installation of the rom copies the boot.img as a ph98img.zip to the sd, and if you already have a ph98img.zip it won't work. Also, make sure to boot the rom once before you flash the sd patch in recovery
ok, so i deleted the PH98IMG file from the sd card. only files on the card were the rom and the GB patch. i booted into recovery, wiped, flashed the rom, flashed the GB patch which is required and rebooted. Now i'm stuck at the same point on the boot screen.

You need to boot back into the bootloader so it can flash the PH98IMG which the rom created once that flashes you should be fine.
when i flash the rom the PH98IMG file is not being copied to the sd card. it even says in the instructions of the rom to place the rom, the PH98IMG file, and the GB patch to the sd card. I am S-ON, if that matters in this case.
Was there a download for the PH98IMG with the rom? If so you would need to download that and put it on your sd card. What version are you trying to install?

This is how you should have installed the rom
1. Place ROM and SD patch (old firmware patch) on SD Card
2. Reboot to recovery
3. Wipe
4. Install ROM and SD Patch
5. Reboot to hboot to install the PH98IMG.zip that was copied to your SD card during the installation.
6. If no PH98 file was copied, you would extract the boot.img from the ROM zip file and flash that in fastboot. It CANNOT be flashed in recovery on an S-ON device.
7. Reboot.
Like I said, if you had taken the time to read my post thoroughly you would have understands what I meant.

But anyways you got your problem fixed so that doesn't matter anymore. Just remember to read instructions thoroughly
well, i still don't understand completely tbh....the PH98IMG.zip has to be placed on the sd card prior to flashing the rom according to the dev's instructions. the problem is, when it is pre-placed onto the sd card, i cannot boot into recovery.
i'm back on viper rom. flashing cleanrom after viper still did not work. i thought it was because it got past the white htc screen the past time but was still stuck on the boot screen after all.

well now my mind is completely blown, bc when i first installed cleanrom i did it the exact way i described...and i don't see where it says adb recovery?
Method 4: Installation for S-ON Devices on Gingerbread firmware
Copy ROM to SD Card AND PH98IMG.zip AND GB Firmware Patch to ROOT of SD Card
Reboot to recovery
wipe data / Factory Reset
Flash ROM
Flash GB Fimrware Patch
Use Developer Menu to reboot to bootloader and flash the boot.img file in the PH98IMG.zip
Reboot
Profit!
NOTE: If you are not S-OFF or on ICS Firmware you will need to download the Extra's and place them on the root of your SD Card BEFORE you flash the ROM! They are no longer included in the ROM file itself!

Things seemed so much easier on my D1 and DX, haha. i used to flash 5 roms a day to test them out on my X, everything on htc just seems a bit more technical.

Its because the DX didn't have custom kernels. 2nd init was used to override Motorola's services. Thats why the dx and d2 got cyqnogenmod. The 2nd init allowed the devs to use aosp libs and such that complied with the pre- existing kernel values. The rezound's boot loader allows for the installation of kernels through hboot, but not recovery. (If your s-on at least). I reccomend you try incredikernel because it shows truly what the benefits of flashing custom kernels are. Hope I helped :3, I do agree that the rezound is a little harder to hack because I came from a Droid 2, but custom kernels are nice. Unfortunately I'm on the leaked ics ruu and there's no kernel source which means no custom ics kernels yet.

Sir, patience with the newcomer please.
Part of the problem is that you are telling him the ph98img file is extracted during the install. Well, according to the installation directions, it is NOT. The user is directed to download the ph98img file and the patch before hand.

There is a boot.img file that goes with Viper (see the site). You must install with ADB (fastboot flash boot boot.img) or flash with "Flash Image GUI" that you can download from the market. Failure of wifi after installing a rom or kernel must be >99% due to wrong boot.img file for the kernel modules packaged in the rom or kernel you're installing.

Wow, that's tough. Well it's hard to delete all the "sd card" data. If you have TWRP, go to advanced -> file manager and see if you have files. Most likely the viper download is still there in the download folder. If so, do the following:
1. In TWRP press wipe -> factory reset.
2. TWRP -> install -> download/viper zip file -> follow instructions.
3. You probably won't have wifi after install initially, but everything else should work.
4. After you do the ROM setup:
a. Go to the viper thread and download the boot.img file under the viper download link
b. Install flash image gui from the market. Use it to install the boot.img file. Ignore the caution potential issue warning. Flash the file and reboot. All should be well.
5. Be careful!:good:
Well go to your computer and then if do you have the sd tools from HTC, then cppy there the roms files and the boot .img,
Then go to dos command prompt in windos and find the files
Run the recovery and type in sideload
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then go to recovery again and flash the rom and thats it

b. Install flash image gui from the market. Use it to install the boot.img file. Ignore the caution potential issue warning. Flash the file and reboot. All should be well.
5. Be careful!:good:

OK, so you do need adb then. Assuming you have it installed rather than just a all-in-one kit, here's a good description of procedure: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929
If you don't have adb installed, you need to install it.

S-Off, and recovery boot looping - HELP?

OK, so I successfully S-Off'd this phone using DirtyRacun. I backed up the stock functioning ROM, then went to flash Viperlte 2.2.0. Went through all the Aroma installer options, then went to flash. It breezed through the install process, leaving the phone without any operating system on it (Recovery didn't actually flash anything). Tried both CWM and TWRP, and same results each time.
So, I decided to simply try flashing the boot.img in the downloads for Viperlte 2.2.0 via fastboot, and after doing that, the phone still won't boot, and now whenenver I try to reboot into recovery, recovery flashes for a second, and then screen goes blank and boot loops.
Tried reflashing the stock boot.img and reflashed recoveries, same results each time. I'm at a loss. I don't understand what got messed up by fastboot flashing the boot img.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

how did you install recovery, the first time you must use adb and flash the recovery.img.
command is: fastboot flash recovery(what ever here).img example: fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.9-fireball.img
Ok, have the phone booting again (flashed ruu, then reflashed the dirtyracun hboot). Question still remains, why did I start bootlooping recovery after flashing the boot.img? And why wouldn't the Rom actually flash in recovery?
Again, any insight is appreciated.

Yeah, did that. I was in recovery (TWRP) when I tried flashing Viperlte, but it never flashed the Rom after selecting all the options in Aroma. It stated that it did, but there's no way it did. It took less than a second to go from "installing" to "complete".
So, something is funky there.

I was on the latest release of TWRP (2.4.4.0). I have a recovery log from when it wouldn't flash the ROM. I'll spare the unnecessary strings, and just post the error itself:
error: file_write: write: I/O error
Installer Error (Status 1)
Edit: Just to add, I just successfully flashed SuperSU on the stock ROM using the same TWRP version (2.4.4.0).

I appreciate the suggestions. I'll give a few things a try.
Looks like it was the recovery, afterall. Flashed 2.3.3.0, and the ROM is currently flashing as we speak.
Thanks again!

Hmmm, what's going on here? Aldo101t, do aroma installers work for you on 2.4.4.0? I wonder if its a simple reboot after flashing recovery problem. I need a way to reproduce this.

well, i'm not sure. when i tried to flash viper 2.2 i had a problem, but i can't remember what i did now. i used the same recovery, got it installed, i think i restored a stock rom then reflashed viper and it worked, but i'm not sure.
it's been awhile since i've tried to flasn with aroma, so
i just tried flashing viper 2.2, DID NOT WORK, so i miss spoke.sorry
I have also had problems with aroma on several builds of twrp and several builds of cwm. I'm currently on cwm touch and if it fails to install (goes from 7% to done in a few seconds) just try it again till it flashes. Also seems to help me if zips are on the ext SD card. Not sure what's up with this but that's how I got it to work. Seems to be an aroma thing. Regular zips have no problems flashing.
