[Q] Help with Countershrike 2.3 ROM install for Rezound - HTC Rezound

I recently rooted my Rezound and am trying to flash my first custom ROM. I think I followed the directions in the post with the download files, but when I try to boot the phone and load the rom, it stays on the Cyanogen (mod) screen forever - well it has been about 30 minutes so far... the thread for this rom says it takes a long time, but this seems excessive. I also searched other threads for an answer but could not find anything that talks to this, so I am thinking I did something wrong... thanks for any help.

Verify the md5 matches... md5: 1c97071af334c0e9313cb026be4522d3
Also make sure you're using AmonRa 3.15 for your recovery, and that you performed a nandroid and wiped before installing the ROM...
Wipe data/factory reset: wipes all
Wipe cache
Wipe Dalvik cache : Wipes Dalvik cache in all possible locations if moved by apps2sd

Thanks for the help, but how do I verify that the md5 matches? also, I have TWRP 2.2.2.1 recovery installed--will that not work? (sorry for the noob questions...)

I use the WinMD5Free tool in Win7 to verify the MD5 checksum...
http://www.winmd5.com/
... and as far as recoveries go, I've always preferred AmonRa (personal preference). You should probably wait until someone that uses TWRP can verify whether it works OK or not when flashing Countershrike.

Thanks again. I checked the md5 and it is a good match. hopefully I'll hear from someone else about TWRP...

Tried it one more time and this time it worked like a champ! thanks again for your help.

need help, cant load rom or restore

trying to load a new rom on the wife's eris and I am getting the error "E:Can't read MISC (no space left on the device). I have a naindroid backup, but I get the same error when I try to restore. Help me so I don't have to sleep on the couch tonight!
Did you do Wipe and dalvik wipe before flashing or running the NAND restore?
It sounds like your internal memory is full and needs to be wiped.
Boot up to recovery and wipe data/factory reset then nandtoid restore. Also make sure you have a full battery.

That error means it's not a signed ROM, use Clockwork recovery to flash unsigned ROMs.

[Q] Does CWM properly wipe dalvik now?

I remember from the EVO days that Clockwork recovery didn't properly wipe the dalvik cache, so everyone recommended going with Amon_RA recovery. Since revolutionary automatically installed CWM, I thought I would give it a go. The wipe dalvik operation seems to go awfully fast. I just wondered if anyone knew if it worked properly now.
Has anyone compared CWM and TWRP in detail?

[Q] SU binary outdated

I was unlocked and rooted, but still on the stock rom.
I finally got around to installing the Alien rom and I was greeted with this message after install.
When I go to update it force closes. Its showing 3.0-beta2 as the latest version but force closes when it goes to check installed version.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you havent already done this....
Go into rom manager and run fix permissions. This can be done with Romracers CWM as well. Give that a shot and try it again.
Edit: Also did you do the full wipe routine before and after the alien rom install? Even though the ROM says its a full wipe, still do it manually before and after.
Hmm, I hadn't opened up ROM manager since this change.
It says "You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "/system/xbin/su"
As far as the wipe, I did the full wipe prior, but wasn't aware of needing to do it after. So I need to wipe Dalvik Cache and Cache Partition again?
EDIT: And of course, I can't get into Recovery Mode either. If I try to root my phone again, it says the file all ready exists?
Yes, something didnt take.
1 Wipe data/factory reset
2 Wipe cache
3 Wipe Dalvik
4 Install ROM
5 Wipe data/factory reset
6 Wipe Cache
7 Wipe Dalvik
8 Reboot
So if you reboot holding down on the volume and go into recovery it doesnt do anything?
what recovery did you use to install Alien initially? Romracers,

All right, I appreciate it. But maybe a stupid question, but since I can't get into recovery mode how do I go about doing this?
EDIT: Sorry, you got me on the edit. I wasn't thinking to go through recovery via the volume key. I was trying to go through the system recovery app. As far as which recovery I used Tenfar's Bootstrap, which reading looks like I probably shouldn't have. Thanks for your help, hopefully this will cure everything.
You are going to have to use fastboot and flash the recovery image again.
Go here--->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
Ya once we got our bootloaders unlocked Tenfars CWM became obsolete. Just pick your favorite color from the link i posted and flash with fastboot.
Thats why you got an error, tenfars wont properly flash a rom.
Just follow that wipe routine after every rom you flash. Before and after flash

Help help helllllppppp

Hi Guy,
I got a BIIIGGG problem.
After doing some VERY quick research i decided to get started by rooting and installing VillainROM, which worked lovely...no probs, however because there was a lack of themes (the main reason i rom'd the phone), I was swayed to go for Cynogen.
After downloading CM7.1 and installing through CWM my phone will not boot.
I have tried to do a factory reset through CWM, wipe the cache, and reinstall VillainROM but to no effect and stupidly i didnt backup my data.
Any advice on what i can do or have I bricked my phone?
What does the screen show? Can you get into download mode or recovery? Have you tried flashing the rom twice? This worked for me in the past.
Ricey
yep i can get into recovery and download mode, but when i boot the phone no joy
Ive tried installing the rom several times
Try formatting /data, /cache and /system from CWM recovery before flashing the new ROM.
If that doesn't help flash a stock ROM from Intratech's thread in the dev section via Odin.
1st- Boot into recovery.
2nd- wipe data/factory reset
3rd- wipe cache
4th- go to advanced/ wipe dalvik cache
5th- go to mounts and storage - format/system
6th- go to install ROM from SD card - select the ROM you'd like
7th- reboot system DO NOT TOUCH MAY TAKE A WHILE
8th- let it sit for 10 minutes once its booted so all the cache can build back up
9th- reboot, set up, and enjoy!!
Hope this helps!
Enzopreme you are a legend many thanks indeed

[Q] Twrp recovery -- do I also wipe system before flashing new rom?

Hello. I have backed up my stock rom and would like to flash a new custom rom. Team Win Recovery is all new to me as I used clockwork recovery and Amon RA on my old evo 4g. Before I flash a new rom, I know I'm supposed to wipe cache and dalvik, but do I also wipe system? Thank you for your help in advance.
If you're flashing a different ROM all together, then I usually do Factory Reset, Cache, Dalvik Cache. (in that order)
I don't know that the order matters, it's just my way of doing it, and I've never had any problems.

Thanks for your quick response. Gladly appreciate it! But there's also an option in the wipe menu to wipe "system". In the wipe menu, there's: cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, battery stats, rotation, system. I wiped cache, dalvik and battery, anything else I neeed to wipe before I install a custom rom? In clockwork recovery, all I used to do is wipe data, cache and dalvik.

Yes, when flashing a fresh ROM wipe EVERYTHING, including system. I usually wipe a few times just to make sure I'm starting fresh. I haven't used this super wipe but you can also check this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1700211
Edit: I don't usually worry with wiping battery stats or rotation

Thank you. I wiped everything and performed a factory reset.
You don't need to wipe system. Any decent rom out there will wipe the system for you before the rom flashes.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe that the factory reset wipes system anyway.
No factory reset does not wipe system. Also do not use super wipe zips. They are bad for you

Factory reset wipes the data partition. It does the same thing as the factory reset within the phone settings. If you wipe system, it completely wipes out the OS, and there will be nothing to boot. Of course you can still get back to recovery. When you flash a rom, by default it should wipe the system for you and replace the system with the rom you are flashing. There may be a case where you are flashing an incremental upgrade, which will not wipe the system.
The reason you do a factory reset (data wipe) when flashing between roms is because settings and other stuff that was saved on the data partition may not be compatible with the rom and cause issues.

Based on what?
Based on what developers have said. Super wipe originated from a CWM issue back on the EVO 4G and people never seemed to of forgotten.

The issue was with cwm not superwipe. The superwipe created for this device works fine.
the issue was with cwm, the superwipe was made to combat that issue. a good dev will set his rom to wipe system. all a user has to do is factory reset in recovery. Superwipe is a unnecessary step and could be bad for the phone if its corrupted or the person who made it did it wrong.
really great info, thanks guys!

Yes. A system wipe doesn't affect recovery. It just wipes the system partition on your phone. The recovery partition remains unaffected.
