Originally, 1:1 match wallpaper size is 3840*2560.
If you want to set a full page, resize your picture to 3840*2560.
But, If you want to set a specific part of picture to center 2560*1600.
you make 3837*2558. Because even if a picture have 1:1 match size, android resize it.(in my exprience)
so edge 1 pixel is blured.(invaded by outside 1 pixel)
I attach setting picture and test picture.
I can't link yet.
* I don't know why but sometimes set a wallpaper is failed.(I think it has too big size.)
so 3837*2558 fits in one page(2560*1600).
at that time, try try try again. sometimes I failed 5 times..
This tip is useful when you use in rotate.
sorry, my english is poor, so I can't explain well.
The correct size is 3966x2560. This is the correct aspect ratio for the Nexus 10 Gallery Crop tool and it is the size of the wallpapers that Google included with the Nexus 10.
I've tried 3966x2560, but it leaves out the sides. 3840 fit perfectly in the box for me though.

Perhaps your bezel is covering some of the pixels on the edges. Google wouldn't install wallpapers that are not the correct size.

And have you tested a 3966x2560 wallpaper on your own?
Anyway, I'm still trying to find out what the resolution is because setting a wallpaper Wallpaper Wizardrii and the gallery cropping tool is telling me the wallpaper resolution is 3840x2560, but the one from Google are at 3966x2560.
I've attached some pictures of a 3840x2560 wallpaper being set and it fits in the rectangle perfectly. Didn't move either when I tried to move the rectangle around.
The ratio of width to height is 1.5. That means 3840x2560 fits, 2400x1600 fits,1080x720 fits, etc.
Someone mentions 2400x1600 fitting - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34378509&postcount=8

I'm not using Wallpaper Wizardrii. I am using the stock Google crop tool and yes, I use 3966x2560 wallpapers. The crop tool expands to this size wallpaper perfectly on my device. When I tried the 3840x2560, the crop tool did not scale properly and stopped expanding before properly filling.
Perhaps Wallpaper Wizardrii is affecting the crop tool on your device but on a clean Nexus 10 without wallpaper wizardrii, 3966x2560 is the correct size. It is also the size of the wallapers shipped with the device.
The difference between our crop tools is puzzling. The number 3840 does sound more reasonable because it is cleanly divisible by 5 (number of homescreens) but 3840 doesn't work in my crop tool while 3966 does...and 3966 is the size shipped. Fascinating. If anyone knows Jean-Baptiste Queru, perhaps he can clearify this.
I use paranoid rom. Do you use stock rom? I will try 3966 someday with stockrom.

So the 3966x2560 dimensions fill your crop tool perfectly also. Thanks.
I just use nova launcher with wallpaper scrolling disabled... Then I can use any old highres wallpaper..

I'll see how it goes after I uninstall wallpaper wizardrii. I wasn't using wallpaper wizardrii directly however. I used it to make the wallpaper at 3840x2560 which I then saved into my gallery. I used Google's own cropping tool and it fit just fine.

Jenn from StreakSmart.com wrote up an interesting post about how to set a wallpaper without having to crop it on the Streak.
Normally for any 800x480 resolution phone all you do is create a 800x480 wallpaper, go figure. But for the Streak if you tried to set an image with that resolution as the wallpaper, it will make you crop it.
Instead just create a 800x444px image (to compensate for the 36px notification bar) and your good to go.

AWESOME! Me not owning a Streak yet, the first thing I was going to do is try and obtain the parrallax effect. Just like your startup screen post, thanks so much!
2.1 crappy update
I think there should be a guide for the 2.1 OS
Its driving me crazy. the 1.6 was awesome and the icons also fitted nicely. since the 2.1 update it lags abit and there is less space for icons have huge gaps!
i tried to set the same wallpaper (hindu god) i used on 1.6 on 2.1 and the image is enlarged.
(see below) and now all im getting is the head of the shiva and it is zoomed in soooo much. I tried Vlauncher, ahome, launcherpro, Helix and its the same on all of them....
please is there a way i can set the full size picture on the dell? or should i downgrade back to 1.6? lol..
Also, i loved the different tabbed backgrounds. theres only one big one now
would appreciate if there was a way to have the icons without big gaps.
Thanks in advance..
The wallpaper image size for 2.1 is 1000 x 400, a ratio of 2.5 to 1 so you need to make or find an image that will work with those dimensions.
If you install ADWLauncher you can have up to 8 icons per row/column and various other improvements over the stock launcher too.
Troute,
sorry mate you lost me
if i resized that image to 1000 x 400 would it work properly? or how do i go about it?
Ta
No resizing it wouldn't work it would just stretch the statue very wide. You will need to fine another picture that is 2.5 times longer than it is high, or one that you can crop to fit and not lose the detail you want.
Troute,
2000 x 800 is that what you mean? lol.. could you post a image another one? and i can use it as a template. which os have you got? I hope 2.2 supports wallpapers the old way. I mean i dont use Live wallpapers drains batteries so much prefer 1.6
2.5 to 1 is 1250x500 or 1000x400 or 2000x800 or 1600x640 or... any image that is 2.5 times wider than it is high or can be cropped (edges cut off) to match that ratio without you losing the bits you want. Whatever image you find ultimately has to be resized to 1000 by 400 to fit the dell properly.
Here's a 1000 - 400 to mess with,
if i try this with ADW it just zooms into this which isn't much use on a streak!
ok ta.. i will try this when i get home and the ADWlauncher thanks again Troute and checkbox
---
ADW damnit lol.. hmm what size do u use checkbox? same as troute?
Doesn't it depend how many homescreens you are using? I only use 3 so would require a much thinner wallpaper...correct?

Hooooollld everything! yes it does. I've just tried a 1000x400 image using adw and 5 screens and it's totally different. Desibuoy load ADWLauncher first and try your Indian image, you might find it's ok. I'm using the live grass wallpaper and hadn't noticed.
Tried several sizes here 800x400 900x400 and 1000x400 but none of them work. It just selects a small square of it . Any ideas?

Thanks
Question - When you choose the statue pic as your wallpaper do you see the orange? box and do you know you can move and stretch that box to fit over the picture better?
/edit I've just tried that with your image and I can get it all in without a problem (using ADW)
Yeah but it doesnt go over the full wallpaper...
I know I posted this answer a second ago but it's gone.
mancterrier if the box won't fit your image then your image is too big, the box can only be expanded in the right proportions to fit the screen.
hi everyone. i'm having an issue which i'm sure you all will be able to help me out. i've looked through the wallpaper collection that many of the users have and i right click the image and "save image as" and save it to the desktop. then i connect my vibrant via usb. where should i be putting the wallpapers to get the right look? if i put them in my gallery, when i try to apply the wallpaper it makes me use the crop function then after applying the wallpaper, it's all blurry and out of focus. could someone please help me out?
thanks.
Is the wallpaper proper size?
Cropping a LARGE picture WILL make it blurry.
Just use your computer.
Use paint, a free program on your Windows PC.
Crop it to the area you want, Idk the EXACT dimensions of the wallpaper (someone wanna help me on this?) but crop the about right amount, and put it on your phone.
That should help.
Or maybe the picture is a bad format? (probably not)
You can make a folder call it wallpapers in the int-sd card, and put in there. if you size them first you usually do not run into the cropping problem. Also there are easy apps from the market that do this automatically, so you could use those as well. One of the error that easy to make is thinking that the home screen is the size if you are using 3 or 5 screens then it is 3 or 5 wide by 1 tall, just in case you had not thought about that.
ok, cool. i will try both ideas. i could be mistaken, but i think the correct size for the vibrant wallpaper is 400x800...could someone verify please?
thanks.

You're correct.
ok. i tried both ideas and i'm STILL having issues with the wallpaper. i used GIMP to resize the images to 400x800 and created a folder on my sd card and named it "wallpapers", but when i go to apply the wallpaper, it makes me use the crop feature and after applying it, it's too big, blurry and out of focus and really starting to piss me off. the same thing happens if i try to use one of my pictures from my gallery as a wallpaper. can someone please help me before i lose the rest of my mind?
thanks all.
It's 480x900 I believe.
Just use the app wallpaper set and save.
Not sure why your having an issue using gallery though, works fine for me using the crop tool zoomed all the way out.
It's actually 960 X 800.
Both those sizes are obviously bigger than 400x800 so they wouldn't fix the croping problem.

yes. it is adjustable. that's the cropping tool. (if we are talking about the same "box") i tried using a couple of wallpaper programs from the market and it looks a little better, but not as good as the pre-installed ones.

You would think I could have gotten that, since I'm making wallpapers. Holy oops.
I just made a new background image for my phone, however when I try to apply it, the top of the image is being chopped off, and thus I can not see the top of the background I made when I am looking at my homescreen.
It looks as if you have tried to make an image that is "twice as high" as the phones resolution, and this means I only see roughly the lower half of the background image i just made.
Question is, how do i fix it so it looks right?

Well I just downloaded it. And it won't let me select the image I want to use however. It only shows 10 or so images overall and I have close to 1000 or more overall on the phone.
I would however prefer a tip/solution that evolved around using the native apps however.
Edit the picture and add a black border to the sides. The picture should be 960x800 or something in this ratio. But then you have to disable wallpaperscrolling in your launcher.

Why not just add borders to the top and bottom of the image instead?. It would make sense considering the image is supposed to be scrolling vertically
Dont know which launcher you are using then
The wallpaper is scrolling horizontally (for most people ) and is therefore twice your Phones width (in pixels) and the original height
960x800

I figured out the resolution for the wallpaper (it should be 3840x2560, not 3966x2560). So I got a 2560x1440 wallpaper and I was able to center it ona 3840x2560 canvas. When I zoom on the 2560x1440 image in the picture viewer, it looks sharp and great, but when I set it as a wallpaper, it's just not as sharp.
Anyone know what's going on here?

Yeah. I'm aware of those threads. I wasn't exactly talking about the resolution though. My problem was that I thought 2560x1440 wallpapers would fit perfectly when you use the non-scroll option from Wallpaper Wizardrii, but I found out that the wallpapers aren't exactly as 2560x1440. The height is actually slightly taller.
The wallpapers at 3966x2560 aren't exactly perfect as well. When you set the wallpaper, you still have to crop off a bit. The better resolution is 3840x2560. It needs a ratio of 1.5.
3840 is too small. The image will not fully fill the default crop tool in Android. You can't use Wallpaper Wizardrii to determine this. You need to use the default tool in Android. 3966 is the right size.
you guys accounting for the soft buttons taking up some of the 1600 height?

Ahh... Perhaps the number of screens do change the width. I am using 5 home screens. The height minus the notification bar and minus the bottom buttons is 1456. This 1456 "visible" area starts 577 pixels down from the top of the 2560 height.
So as we all know if you use your own images for wallpaper that the images turn out cropped and blurry. I was using Simple Image Wallpaper Free but a couple months back the application started to crash and not work prop. The app will no longer let me choose images from my gallery or SD card but instead only allows me to use images from a setup Google account which does not show all my images. When I do select an image it crashes every time.
So I'm now looking for a new app that will let me use my own images without cropping then to crap and making them look blurry as crap. I have tried Image to Wallpaper and I do not like it and it doesn't work that we'll.
Please help. I would love to make my own images for backgrounds. Thanks

I've never had this issue as long as I've used an image with a suitably high resolution. Since the display resolution on the tablet is 2560x1600, I'd recommend using a source image at least that large. Preferably larger, since it will crop it a little by default to properly format it for both portrait and landscape orientations.

This is an issue and I think you need to take a look better. If you setup a 2560x1600 image for your wallpaper you will be pushed to crop the image. Now you easily make the image look clean and crisp by cropping the image to the size of the photo and it looks wonderful BUTTTTTT if you flip your tablet long ways you will see the image for the wallpaper does not cover the full screen and instead your left with a black top and bottom border cause you image doesn't fit.
Now,,,,,,,,, let's go back to choosing a wallpaper again and when we are left with the option to crop but instead we don't crop like before but instead we make sure our crop markers show horizontal and diagonal view so that the image for the wallpaper will be seen covering no matter what angle we are using the tablet,,,,,,,, well guess what?????? Now your image has been blurred and looks like crap.
I don't know how long you have had your tablet but I've had mi he since the day it was released in stores. When the tablet came out this was an issue everyone was b***hing about non stop but now one wants to help me here. I cannot even find the write ups and threads from this issue anymore. What a useless forum and group of people here. Thanks to the two who replied. But this is an issue that had been addressed by everyone in the beginning too. This was also an issue with the previous Note 10.1 and also the 2014 edition. Its by fault Android which makes you crop.

Relax brother, android can be a bit of a crap shoot when it comes to stuff like this. Even on the same device, we're all running different roms/tweaks/dpi settings/etc. I can vouch that your issue affects my setup as well, but it may be different for some of the others here.
Seriously though, did quickpic work for you? If not I'll see if I can find something else that will since I can replicate the issue.

Thank you for recommending the app but unfortunately it didn't work. With images your given three options for wallpaper cropping which are photo, Google photos and Quickpic. Tried all three and same issue, it crops the images to the point your left with a blurry image.
Simple Image Wallpaper was the best and I miss having it work. No worry of cropping and worked in landscape and portrait mode.
Thanks for recommending Quickpic but still no fix.
Guess what? Good news got it working with Simple Image Wallpaper but had to download the pro version for 99 cents to get it to work. Happy again. I recommend anyone having this issue to download it. You can now choose a different image for landscape and portrait separate or keep it the same. Doesn't blur the image, doesn't crop the image and uses the whole photo. I use 2560x1600 images which is the display is and I get a 2560x1600 wallpaper.
