Try forgetting and rescan and reconnect. Sometimes that will help

As above.....also router security settings might be causing a problem, I had that, in fact most Wi-Fi problems with the S3 seem to be router side from my observations, but that is just my humble opinion

On my old HTC HD2 after a Rom upgrade it wouldn't detect WiFi networks on channel 13. Our router was just on that channel. In the phone's WiFi settings go to Advanced and you should see something like channel range. Best of luck

[Q] Wifi connectivity issues

I got my GS2 not too long ago, and from the start, it's had issues connecting to my house router. I've tried the wifi elsewhere, and it works just fine.
I have about 7-8 other devices that connect to my router in my house, and they all work. Why doesn't my GS2 work? It's still on stock rom.
I have Verizon FIOS and the plain router they give you, if that matters. Looking for answers before the 30 day window if possible.
Have you tried restarting your router?

Is your router a D-Link? The SGS2 hates D-Link's. It has a fondness for Netgear's.

It's an Actiontec. Never heard of that brand.
Is there anything else I can do or check to figure out this problem?
Nvm. I restarted the modem, forgot the connection, then reconnected it. It worked, though it's kind of a weak signal. Thanks given to those who posted.
not the first time I've read that people were having weak wifi signals on their SGS2. I have yet to experience this myself so I'm guessing its incompatible with some routers. I have a verizon fios router and it works great.
I've noticed weaker signals on my S II compared to my captivate and my wife's Atrix. Nothing huge.
That's off a westell 327 dsl router.

I've had no problem connected to secured wifi, but whenever an open wifi is available and I get the notification, when I try to click on it, I just get a Settings crash / force close notification. If I try to manually go into settings and into wifi, it does the same thing. Phone is unrooted - anyone else having this issue?
wifi fix? not for me
I found somewhere online that you can punch *#*#526#*#* into your GSII, and it fixes wifi problems. When I do this, it does begin a driver download, but it never seems to finish. I'm still having the force close issue when trying to open settings to connect to some open wifi sources.

Rezound Tethering Issues

The dilemma:
Just moved into a new home and I don't have internet or cable for a week. So, with my Rezound I thought I would just tether to my computer and hook my computer to my tv.
I downloaded PdaNet and got a USB error. I have 3 USB ports and 3 USB cords including the one that came with the phone and none worked. Error code=1. I then tried easytether and same problem.
So, just for ****s and giggles I plug my wife's Droid 3 and it works no problem. Watching Hulu with buffering issues and all. WTH man?
I'll take any suggestions. Is there a Tether program that works or settings to try?

I had problems with this also.
When I was running CleanROM, my iPad 2 would never connect. It would see the hotspot just fine and seemed to connect, but I could never getan active Internet connection.
Then I flashed the ineffabilis ROM and whatever version that ROM is running works perfectly for me.
For the record: I haven't had any problems with pdanet on my stock Rezound.
Do you have USB Debugging enabled and the phone in "charge only"?
Sent from my HTC Rezound.
Yes on both counts. I have a 2nd laptop and it takes a couple reboots to get it working.
On the working laptop I'm running Windows 7 (but no HDMI). On the non-working I'm running Vista (but my wife's D3 works).
I use Easy Tether with no problems on my stock Rezound.

I have this problem too and it all boils down to how the signal is being broadcast and weather or not the receiving device can accept it. Seems that my tablets (xoom and flyer) as well as my ps3 need a softap connection while the only thing I can make broadcast is adhoc. Sucks! I'm sick of switching Sims back to my Tbolt just to get some wifi!

Tethering OK except with encryton
I have run Ineffabilis and Nils and am able to connect unencrypted wireless tether on both. Whenever I enable encryton, the wireless tethered network is seen but I never get a request for a password when attempting to connect and then get an internet connection error message on the guest ipad or laptop.

This is kinda what I'm talking about. Hit show details when the broadcast starts and fails. You'll see that it fails when configuring softtap. Adhoc works, but a lot of devices don't see it and can't encrypt. Kinda blows.... I hate switching Sims back to my Tbolt just to get wifi on my devices.

I am using "Wifi Tether for Root Users" 3.1 beta 10 and it works perfectly fine for tethering in most cases, as long as your other device can connect to ad-hoc networks. I did have to use the "generic" device profile and enable the "Routing Fix" option in settings to get the devices to connect properly though.

Fantastic. I guess I should be more specific. *MY* devices don't see the broadcast. Rooted flyer on GB, roooted xoom on ICS and a ps3. My xoom DID see a broadcast when I was on a HC rom, but factory xooms on HC. Ever saw it...
Just wish it worked flawlessly like Tbolt. I've tried mss clamping, router fix etc... Maybe I'm wrong, but it Right be related to something pertaining to not having full S OFF. Idk...

Most android devices can't connect to ad-hoc by default. For the Xoom, you need to look for a wpa_supplicant file that is modified for ad-hoc devices. The same most likely applies to your Flyer. I have no idea about the PS3 though... but I would also doubt it has any default support for ad-hoc networks.
I am using the modified wpa_supplicant file from the Xoom forums on my Asus Transformer to get ad-hoc compatibility for tethering, and it works absolutely perfectly.

FoxFi won't accept connections.

When I first got my Evo LTE 3 weeks ago I popped on FoxFi and I could connect devices no problem. However, the data speed was soooo slow that I ended up uninstalling it soon after.
Now with the update to the Evo I thought I'd try again for kicks.
Now, I can't connect any computer/device to my FoxFi connection. They can see the Wifi hotspot but only tries a few seconds to connect and then errors out.
Major bummer.
Any tips/tricks for this?
Make sure that when you turn foxfi on your wifi cannot connect to a router. If your wifi connects to a router foxfi will not transmit the right way and you will get error. Just go to the wifi settings and click forget connection on the phone and then try it. I was having the same issue and that fix it.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned, I turn off wifi before doing anything with it, so that isn't it.
have you tried a reboot? my friend's sgs3 just had the same problem and a reboot got everything in working order.
When you turn foxfi on it will also turn your wifi on to work properly. Just make sure is not connecting to a wireless router and you should be good to go. Just try it.

I keep assuming that purple would assume I tried the basics.
I rebooted. No good. I tried uninstalling any recent apps just in case, restarted. No good. I tried it with and without encryption, renamed SSID, reinstalled the app, tried with Foxfire add-INS. No good. We tried the same stuff on my buddies phone too. Button.

I have wifi off while trying all this, no possible way to be connected to a wireless router.
Thanks guys
Even if you turn it of before starting foxfi foxfi will turn wifi on so it can transmit the data. Go to your wifi setting and click forget on the wireless connection that you currently use to connect thru wifi and then try foxfi. Foxfi will turn on also your wifi will turn on but because you took out the router out of your connections you will not connect thru the the router and fox fi will be working again. Same problem happen to me and it took me 2 days to figure it out.

Yes. I had no idea abt FoxFi bcuz I had rooted my fone but I uninstalled the root 2 do the OTA update then couldnt get the root back. So I looked on here in themes & apps & found out abt Foxfi. When I typed it n the FoxFi add on showed up n the playstore & tht gave me the link 2 go 2 the developers website 2 download the app bcuz Sprint & AT&T removed the app out of the playstore, so once I installed the FixFi app I also did the add on. In the menu settings of the FoxFi add on app it lets u hide ur mobile hotspot usage 4rm Sprint so they dont kno ur data usage on the hotspot. It works fine 4 me, I checked it 2 c if it notices it when I chk my data usage & the mobile hotspot data is 0....this is a gr8 app!!

Why is my works WiFi is fso slow when I have good signal?

It Works ok if im less than 5 meters away from server. But anything over that and its unusable. I work about 10 meters from the server. And I get at least 2 - 3 bars of signal out of 4. And I can't even post a comment on here. The speed is very fast for about 30 seconds and then ridiculously slow. It also struggles to connect. Tries about 3 or 4 times before it connects. I'm running cm10 on s3 but have this problem on stock, omega and checkrom. I had simular problems with the s2 aswell but not s1. I don't want to use wifi kill as its my work and it might not solve the problem. Is this the s3 working on networks with multiple apns? Is there a code I can call to turn off power saving ?? Can't force to 5ghz either.
Some advice would be massively helpful. I am getting very frustrated.
Thanks in advanced

I believe the problem lies in network or in the wifi router. Maybe it's overloaded, try on-off cycling the router and see if it works then?
I kinda doubt that the issue is in the phone
I've fixed it now mate. Well chuffed. Don't know what it was really. But the method I used in above thread worked. It all started when I first rooted and flashed omega. Cm9 got rid of the authentication error (so it seems Sammy is at fault there) as for the WiFi range of about 3 meters and no connectivity after that distance. I'm not sure. Perhaps a problem deep in the settings I could not find. But completely wiping all settings worked. Not ideal. But confirmed working all day at work. So maybe a omega fault I don't know. Jus happy to have fixed it

It can be many problems! Maybe the ROM that you are runing has poor Wi-Fi support or maybe the phone is just "getting old" or maybe its the Wi-Fi set that sends you the signal!

Foxfi is good enough for systems where adhoc networks don't matter. The only way I have been succussful with tethering on the touch pad is with root and Wifi Tether app. Just Google it and side load it as it is not in the market. I hope that helps.
instead of using androids built in wifi settings to connect, I use "wifi analyzer". its free in google play, and allows you to see and do things that you can't using stock wifi connection settings. You can set different channels for a 5ghz as well as b/g/n 2.4ghz, as well as reconnect options etc etc. it's a nice way to see which channels are best to connect with.
Thanks,I will give that a try

just because a device is rooted does not mean it will automatically see an ad-hoc connection from another android device. ad-hoc/peer to peer connections from droid to droid are tricky and flakey alot of times or just wont work at all depending on the kernel. everyone usually thinks that tethering and hotspot are the same thing. they are not. there is a big difference between ad-hoc and infrastructure connections.
FWIW, I have zero issues tethering my TP using the stock tethering feature of my Galaxy Nexus.

+1. That was my point. Ad hoc is touch and go device to device. I had to try several combinations to get my Samsung E4GT to tether well with my TP. The OP may want to check the LG forums to see what is working with that phone.

While I don’t know much about the OPs ROM, I was simply trying to say he might want to try the built-in tethering—assuming it’s available—versus some third-party app.
I don't think stock Lucid has a built in tethering
