[Q] Jelly Bean foreign keyboard - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
So when I use my Galaxy S3 with ICS 4.0.4, I get a keyboard that looks like this:
(attached JPG 1)
But when I update to Jelly Bean and set my keyboard to Lithuanian language, I get all my Lithuanian characters at the top of the keyboard, like this:
(attached JPG 2)
I would like to have it the old way, so I could just hold a different key and have my Lithuanian one pop up. Jelly Bean doesn't seem to offer this option. I don't like any of the ICS keyboards offered on the play store and I've found some stock ones on these forums, but they don't support my language. So, is there anything I could just import from my ICS file system to my Jelly bean and have it work the old way? Thank you in advance.

in JB you can switch languages by swiping the space virtual key left or right (as you can see in your jpg2 image you have lithuanian language written on the space key) if you have multiple languages selected.

Thank you, but the thing is, I do want to use Lithuanian language on my keyboard, but not with all the Lithuanian characters at the top like you see in the screenshot. The way it works on ICS is I just hold a certain English character (i. e. A) and an option to use a Lithuanian one pops up (i. e. Ą). So is there any way to have/import this to JB? All I need is the character layout from ICS. Thank you

[REQ] Japanese (Romaji input) for Android keyboard (4.0.3/4.0.4 ICS)

I was wondering if there was a way to add Japanese as an language input for the Android keyboard? By default, there is no option to add Japanese as a llanguage input, and all other keyboards that have it are either ugly, don't have ICS as an optional theme or just too much, I prefer the stock Android keyboard on ICS over anything else and I'm sure there are some of you that agree. It would be nice to have this and other possible languages as optional languages on this keyboard.

Google Japanese Input Beta is what I use when I need to type in Japanese, but I too would prefer it if it could be part of the language selection within natural ICS settings.
Before updating my Sensation from Gingerbread to ICS, I could Long-press in they text field for the popup menu to appear, from which i could change between English and Japanese with no hassle.
After the ICS update, I keep on needing to go into settings>Language and Keyboard>Keyboard and input methods>Select Japanese. Bloody annoying, having to do this, especially if the sms's I receive keep on alternating between Japanese and English....
Anything I am missing out on here?

I am using Google IME Beta on stock ICS 4.0.4. I can switch between English and Japanese by long-pressing the spacebar (on the English keyboard) or the bottom left key (on the Japanese keyboard) and changing to the other language in the popup dialog.

Android Keyboard in JB

Morning guys,
I now see that Vietnamese has been added to "input language" in the Android Keyboard (in Jelly Bean). But I don't know how to use it to type Vietnamese. , my language, and I don't know how to switch between English to Vietnamese either.
Currently I'm using Multiling Keyboard (or GoTiengViet), but if there is a default builtin keyboard, it is much better.
Drop me some instructions, please.

3x4 Portrait Keyboard?

Anyone know a 3x4 portrait keyboard the same or similar as stock S3 4.1.1 with ability to add own words to install because Samsung f***ed up again with 4.1.2 and I just don't like portrait qwerty keyboards.
Are you asking for a T9 Keyboard?
Look up "T9 keyboard android" and try out some that look good?
As for the custom words, you can add them manually into the personal dictionary or use an app which keeps it's own custom dictionary.
Might I suggest to try out SwiftKey. I am pretty sure it does not support a T9 layout, but the QWERTY keyboard by them is amazing, and the word prediction after using it for a few weeks is just incomparable to other keyboards.
Yeah it's just the T9 3x4 numeric portrait pad I'm looking for, and I've tried loads from the market but just can't find any that work the same as a normal numeric pad, and I've tried qwerty portrait pads but just find them awkward and slow. And this is such a major problem for me I'm gonna have to downgrade to 4.1.1 if I can't find an answer.
Well in that case you just need the 4.1.1 Keyboard APK. I do not have enough knowledge to help you with this. But there is a thread here about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952804
You can look around on google for "android 4.1.1 keyboard apk" and hopefully find something that will help you.
I really hope you can get it working with your current ROM so that you do not need to downgrade.
Wish it was that simple mate... But it doesn't work like normal keyboard IMEs because it's a system integrated App, and they changed the keypad on 4.1.2 so much that nothing from 4.1.1 will work without major mods.

[Q] Samsung Keyboard no longer has Chinese input language after hard reset

Hi all, wondering if anyone has the same incredibly frustrating problem.
I'm using a Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7105
I used to use the Samsung Keyboard with English and the Chinese language input (downloaded in it's language settings).
But after a hard rest (My phone had recently updated itself to 4.3 with no change) I no longer have Chinese as a downloadable language.
WHY is this so annoying... Becuase if I use another keyboard that has chinese I can't swap between it and the Samsung Keyboard in Keyboard. The Samsung has to be selects in the phone setting and can't be selected as one of many keyboards.
The reason why I wish to use the Samsung keyboard is becuase of its great swipe input function. I have not found another keyboard that has swipe in English and Chinese input funtionality.
Which means I can never using any combo of keyboards swap easily from chinese to swipe english keyboard. Aarrgghh!!!!!
I think It has something to do with the locale version of the 4.3 android os. I heard that different locales have different downloadable language options. But why has mine sudenly changed!
Anyone?

Samsung must have changed the CSC of your device when upgrading to Android 4.3
I don't own your device. So I am just sharing what I know.
Go to messaging app, and select create new message and the keyboard will be activated.
In that look for any settings icon.
If there is one, then click on it and change your input language.
^If it doesn't work, go to menu>settings>language and input and change the options.
Press thanks if I have helped.
Maybe someone has better ideas.

If you change your firmware region, what happens to the keyboard region?

Hi all
Has anybody changed their tablet's firmware to that of a different region which has a different keyboard layout? If so, did the keyboard layout continue to match the markings on the keys?
Alternatively, can anybody confirm if all keyboard layouts are listed somewhere in the settings, and you can choose which keyboard layout you want to use regardless of what is printed on the keys?
Thanks!
Keyboard layouts should not have anything to do with your tablet region but with what language you've chosen as default language for that said keyboard. It's something you can change within the language and keyboard setting.

OK, great. Thanks so much for the confirmation! I've not used an Android tablet with a keyboard since Ice Cream Sandwich was the latest release, and that didn't include any keyboard language settings that I can remember. (Although saying that, I never looked for them as I had a US tablet and keyboard, so I didn't need them.) So I really wasn't sure how this would work.
Thanks so much for the info!
