Any one know what this icon is in my status bar? I thought it was maybe driving mode as I was playing with that but I can't get it to go away. Tried restarting phone, battery pull. Thanks

GPS, Verizon Location, and Google Location all turn this on. It has also been reported that it stays on if you disable those location services. It is assumed that the 911 location service is toggling it on.
Bottom line, it's just an icon telling you that a location service is turned on.
e911 location services icon...it can be removed by using a app like ninjamorph and modify the framework.res file
Thanks I never noticed it before

Happens on the newer phones. Can be removed, but unless you're truly anal about icons, not worth the trouble.

Facebook? Seems like it checks my location whenever I fire it up.
I kept having that issue, and couldn't really find what it was. Then I gave up and just disabled my GPS altogether and enable it whenever I'm using the navigation, which I do use sometimes, but not that often.
Just look at your logcat....

I was using my GPS today to goto my cousins house, and I noticed every time it comes time for my GPS to announce the next turn, instead of saying something like "turn left" it says "data connection lost". At first I thought I was getting bad service, but then I realized I have full 4g and phone signal and my GPS is fine, its just changing the words to "data connection lost".
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm using Google Navigation fully updated on NRG 8/1 stock Rom with the most recent faux kernel. It only started happening, or rather I only noticed it, after I installed the Google Now Zip in the Amaze development section, so later I'm gonna uninstall and try it again. Any other suggestions?

I had a similar issue where it would give me a street name(I was not in my home state and the name was from home) instead of the turns although it was sending me in the right direction. I uninstalled and reinstalled....problem solved. Good luck.
Live and Die on this day....
Did you uninstall Now or Navigation?

Sorry yeah, I asked because I stated in OP that it started after I installed Google Now.
But you were right. Once I reinstalled Google Navigation it fixed.itself. thanks.

I.had it happen where it was just announcing the same direction over and over, but the map was still sending me the right way. I just deleted the app data, and ask was fine again.

My wife and I have the DNA stock. Her gps comes on on boot. I disabled the same apps on both phones. Setting for maps on both is the the same, so is location settings.
I cannot find what makes her DNA does it and mine does not.
any help will be appreciated.

Get a navigation lock on the Verizon ROM. Then immediately boot into recovery and flash new ROM.

Let it sit then. Also try gps status from play. If it's showing that it should eventuality get a lock, then locks after the first will be much faster. Also, make sure you're outside trying to get the lock, much faster

I'll give it a try and let you know. I have tried the gps status before on a non Verizon rom trying to get a lock but it never did and it was outside. Might have to stick to Verizon ROM. I hope not tho

I had an issue other day where it wouldn't lock. Pretty sure it had the satellites in view and connected to several but wouldn't get a fix.
Turns out changed a roaming setting and it locked.. Think it was the network type CDMA lte etc..
Edit: it was "network mode"

seems like i did not understand your question clearly before. anyways, just to clarify if both WiFi and mobile data is on, the system uses only WiFi, i hope that is how your phone behaves.
I think that might be possible via apps like Automate it/tasker, however i don't seem to understand the need for doing that.
Does that help? i am still wondering if i got your question correct.
Maybe approach from a different angle.... what are you trying to accomplish once you have the ability to toggle data while on wifi?
Ok let me be more clear I'm wondering what controls the data icon visibility when on WiFi, on every phone I've had the data icon isn't present when using WiFi except this one
