Ok, so I gotm my S3.
With help of internet it got updated to Android 4.1.1 and rooted.
I got Market Enabler and Netflix app of Google Play (BTW: I have tried prev ver of the app as well - Netflix 1.8.)
1. I setup VPN connections (US & UK servers), both PPTP and L2TP protocols (just to be sure).
Internet (on Chrome and stock browser) is working great. VPN servers are fast so no difference here. Websites like home of the provider and trace my ip do show my location in accordance with VPN.
But when I try to log in to my Netflix account or start BBC iPlayer all I get is information (from Netflix) - that it is trying to connect. Like no data at all is being exchanged between app and internet
Any ideas?
2. When I started to setup VPN I was forced to put pin/pattern lock on S3. Any easy (for total newbie) way to turn it of?
Which vpn you are using and try changing the server.
If there is app for your vpn then most probably you dont need to use pattern lock. Try using VPNroot app but sometimes it diesnt work or find some app from app store.

I am using HideIPVPN (as in my signature).
They don't have an app for Android - I had to setup connections manualy.
I did try different servers - same thing. Browser work, Netflix and BBC (on the same VPN servers) do work on my PC and iPad - S3 - nope
I am using expressvpn and it works like a charm. Clear data from both the apps and try

I do not know how and why - but everything works just fine. It just started without any input from me
So... I am left with no 2 - how to got rid of pattern/pin thing?
Try using vpnroot from playstore

Cool, thank you.
I'm using HideMyAss.com vpn (no app, so manual configuration). It seems to work fine as I can see some difference in contents when comparing netflix in denmark (no vpn) and netflix US (through hidemyass).

Hi,
i downloaded vpnroot, configured it with my VPN provider (I am using HideIPVPN for last 3 years - awesome service btw!) nad it all started woorking.
Hulu (Plus) Netflix, BBC - all smooth like butter (unlike TouchWiz or Android 4.1.1 on my S3 )
Thread moved to Q & A section, post in the relevant section next time.

Had anyone had problems tethering to xbox live either via barnacle or mobile AP?

Use mobile ap. Those apps are adhoc. Mobile ap turns your phone into a router. Have u installed a custom rom?, than u probably already have mobile ap.

Yea I'm using mobile AP, but when I try to use it on xbox it says mtu is insufficient. I had seen a video on you tube on changing mtu w/ terminal emulator and did that to the T but still no luck. I was having similar issues w/ barnacle but I found that if I wait about 2 to 5 minutes after starting it up then hooking up to xbox live it works. I'm going to try same method w/ AP when I get home. Oh BTW I'm using bionix fusion 1.1 stock kernel

I haven't tried using either of those with XBox Live, so I can't really give any help in tha regard. I can suggest, however, that you try android-wifi-tether (You'll have to google it because I can't post links, and make sure to download the latest experimental version with support for the galaxy s). I used this on my Vibrant before I learned about the Mobile AP, and it works quite well. I had used it before on my G1, and was succesful in using it to play on Live with that. I haven't tried Live with my Vibrant, though, so I can't guarentee it will work. Hope this helps!

I've been using Android-VNC-Viewer since I bought my Atrix. It's worked great so far. Best of all, it's free! You can find it in the market.
I'm using Ultra VNC on my server.
Let me know if you have any questions. It may be a bit difficult to set up at first. Good luck!
I cant connet iy always get connetion timed out

Sounds like port 5900 is closed. Google "port forward", click on the first link, and follow the instructions for your specific router.
You can verify whether or not a port is open at CanYouSeeMe dot org.
Let me know how it goes.

I used Splashtop on my old phone. Insanely quick - you could even watch videos and listen to music. Hell, I managed to do some basic stuff in photoshop!
I'm a fan of VNC, but it's not the most secure thing around.
I would set up a VPN connection to home or an SSH tunnel to use it. That will add to it's security. If you go with the port forward route, make sure you shut the forwards off, or close VNC when you don't need it. (Read, VNC alone isn't very secure)
If your not a network geek, then I highly recommend Teamviewer.
It just works, thru whatever firewall setup you sit behind. With zero configuration. You can also add ACL's to allow connections from only certain IP's/Clients to lock your install down a little better.
Been using team viewer for years now. I its the best on market. And free as well.

i use unified remote. simple, and works great
Splashtop remote is a godsend in terms of quickly showing you what's going on on your computer. It essentially makes your phone a remote display capable of not only controlling the computer, but also watching videos, and even playing games. The coolest thing for me is the ability to stream the audio from your computer to your phone. Hope this helps
This does use quite a lot of data so I suggest running it on wifi. There's a free demo as well that you can try.

Hey just wondered if there was a tweak to make apps think their on wifi? Im trying to use bbc player at work but i need to be connected to wifi and i don't have wifi at work. Im on three network with unlimited data and would love to find a tweak to let me use apps thinking their on wifi. I had this tweak on my iphone but can't find it for android.

Just use standard web browser with desktop user agent. The video quality is very similar on both platform anyways .
Pulsar g2 had once moded the application but I think it's no longer available.

Sweet worked on the default browser
Would still like the tweak if anyone knows of 1.
Cheers

Hi I have a rooted s5830i and I wanted to run wifi on it using connectify on my laptop which is connected to the lan of my college.
I use a proxy to run internet on the stock browser and opera mobile and I wanted to run google play via wifi too. But I do not seem to be able to run it or any other application through proxydroid. One of the basic reasons for me to root my phone was to run wifi on google play using proxy. Please help.....

What is wrong with using Opera Mini?
Didn't allow local web addresses.
Gear web better but not standalone.
I run a few set services at home and would be good to connect to them without having watch connected to phone.

I see it in under Samsung Gear > Samsung Gear Apps > search for browser: results Opera & GearWeb - Internet Browser for Gear.
It's supposed to work with the Gear S, but, again, reviews are mixed. If you don't see it, the dev may have only made it available for the US store - bad mistake if that's the case.
GearWeb works OK you will not see any pictures tho and to use it. You can use the Web standalone or share your phones browser on your watch it's more like Internet for a dumb phone very very basic
By stand alone I mean no bluetooth connection. In remote mode the browser didn't work
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Free mobile app
Yes standalone Gear Only mode GearWeb works using the Gear S Internet/ WiFi nothing to do with the phone and it's Bluetooth/remote connect
Sorry I do not understand what you mean. When I tried it with no bluetooth the Internet didn't work.
