Yeah Roms can influence rapid heating as some roms may force most apps to use maximum resources (like all processors) and thereby causing rapid heating but in cm we are given several settings for managing.
Also heavy hd games will heat up the phone regardless of the Rom.
Using GT - I9100
I thank those who give helpful comments

Well most high end phone's are designed to handle heating but working the phone too long like that will reduce it's life, because of the stress on the hardware.

Hey guys I'm having trouble finding a rom that is the coolest as in not warm. If you could point me in the right direction thank you
Right now I'm using Rarity's 3.6 rom and it gets quite warm when I am just setting up my phone, whereas when I'm using Check's ROM or others its always cool. Thank you in advance!

Change your kernel. and if your using setcpu try changing frequencies. but if u want a rom batista rom with ninph kernel
I've tried BatistasRom, its very quick and full of features, but idk why it just also warms up when playing around. Ill have a go at the kernels and the frequencies. Thank you very much

U welcome. if you are playing games and using it hard of course its going to get warm after a while buddy. let me know how you get on
Cognition or Villain 3.0 . Never had a heat issue with either unless I play Asphalt (which is not optimized and heats up and all roms) .

I use SetCpu to underclock the device. I usually have 800 MHz as highest frequency and this fair enough for most games. Only for games like GoF2 or Riptide I scale up to 1200 MHz. For most other games and apps 800 MHz is alright and the phone will not get warm.
Just try lower frequencies and if you have lags scale up.
Hm still getting warm after trying siyah's kernel. any suggestions?
I have tried Cognition and yes, it is quite good...only thing keeping me away from it is that there are no updates (yet).
and yes i do know playing games will heat up the device...thats what we get for having such a slim phone
I tried quite a few AOSP and AKOP roms and the one thing that annoys me alot is that almost every EA & Gameloft games stay in update screen for a min or more when a game is launched ,is there is any work around for this

How is the gaming performance on aops and akop roms for ea and gameloft games( heavy 3d ones). Do they lag and stutter, low fps? How is it compared to stock/ samsung based roms?
they run at a good fps rate..so far i ve played dead space,ME infiltrator,Asphalt 7,mordern warfare 3...and the list goes on..
The update check on startup is the oly thing that makes me to uninstall the games cuz i don't want ppl sayin my SGS2 is slow

The problem:
This problem is simply with the developer of the game and not the Roms. They supposed to have release a genuine update to their apk(s) to fix this issues.
Many people are facing this same problem, but only on AOSP based Roms.
Possible solution:
Before opening any of those troublesome games, ensure both your mobile data and Wi-Fi connection are DISABLED.
Peace.

Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
Hi all,
I seem to have a problem with certain roms on my S3 that will heat my phone up excessively after just a few minutes use, while other roms don't.
I used to use Omega Rom V43.3 and JKay and that never once heated up to the extent that I would almost burn myself. I decided to try Revolution HD, Glamour S5 and Blisspop and my phone would heat up with all of them.
I am looking for a new rom as Omega Rom is really outdated and I am missing out on newer updates.
What would cause this? Is this Kernel related? If so what Rom or Kernel would reduce this?
I use the screen on the lowest brightness setting and don't use too many apps at once, Spotify, Facebook, Whatsapp etc.
Does anyone have an idea? I would have asked in a dev thread for one of the roms but I don't have the required 10 posts.
Thanks!

Underclocking is hardly the solution. I'd check for CPU-intensive apps. One of them must be running in the background. Check the battery stats for clues too.
Its ROM code issues
The rom is probably taxing the hardware more
Is 60 degrees celsius a normal temperature for a phone cpu to reach? This seems really high to me as I am almost burning my hands. It's really uncomfortable. Battery reaches about 43 degrees celsius.
Using Boefla Kernel and Android Revolution HD rom. Tried Blisspop with Archi Kernel and it would get just as hot. Omega rom the same thing.
Screen is on it's lowest setting and I tried undervolting as well, no luck. These are all fresh wipe installs
Is it just one of those things that some S3's will heat up more than others or is this temperature a bit too high?
Thanks
So long as the device doesn't shut down it wont do any damage. The main problem is comfort. Have you activated power save mode?
Whenever I play some games (like NFS most wanted or D-Day) my opx becomes too hot on both sides & believe me I really mean "too hot". I'm facing this problem during game-plays only, not while using any other apps.
And also when I installed Real Racing 3 it required some additional download whereas the same game with same cache file ran on my iBall Andi 5Li.
Can someone help me fix these problems of OPX ?
That's not a problem with the device. Its the heat output of the processor. Try blu sparkspark and lowering the thermal limits to 60C. If that hurts try an undervolt to 940mv. It helps a ton
I'll try that, but would I be able to restore my stock kernel back if i make a nandroid backup?

take a nandroid backup. Whenver you want to go back to stock kernel, just restore the system part.
Okay, I'll try that.........

Install kernel auditor and access the thermal hotplug.
There is no heating issue..
The backside of the Oneplus X is made of glass.
All devices with aluminium body or glass will heat up while playing these kind of games.(glass and aliminium conducts faster than plastic)
Real Racing 3 is a game with awesome graphic.(for smartphones^^)
If you've turned on Wifi , the device is heating up more quickly.(Internet connection required if you want to play RR3 with your Google Account, and download additional content like tracks, cars ....).
Can you tell us your temperature while playing RR3?

And I don't have any resource to measure its temperature........... Sorry

Issue acc to me may be that -
1. Gpu is not going to its 100%
While Playing asphalt it took only 25-30% which results in lag and heating issue.
2. Gpu is overclocked in stock i.e 578mhz.
Solution:
Flash blu spark n Change the governer to blu active n clock the gpu to 450mhz!
The heating issue is solved for me by doing dis n no lags
Thanks!

Does this really improve gaming experience or just placebo?
The time you had to come here and ask, you would have installed it, tried it and would you know if it improve gaming experience.

its depend of each person, I like because I can send messages or whatever while I am in game... It doesn't make the game more faster. It just clear memory cache, cleaning open app in background, show fps, etc.. If you don't like it u can uninstall it, ofc the battery drain fast because I am using this and playing.. I only use it for sending sms, going to telegram, etc while the game is searching any match, if I leave the game, it doesn't enter any match.
