Quick Commands Not Working - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

This is my first post at XDA. Longtime viewer but never posted.
I've had the Note a couple days now, but for the first time tried quick command. Low and behold, it's not working. I can write, but eventually it just closes before even recognizing the command. I've had no success with any of the stock commands.
I have tried clearing quick commands data as well as creating a command. Even when I try creating a command it will not let me select "Done."
All other S Pen functions work. Any help? Anything else I should try?

I already tried wiping data of quick commands btw.

seems im having the same problem. i'll watching this thread closely.

Is yours doing the same? Shutting down and not recognizing the command?

UPDATE!
UPDATE:
Wednesday: I stopped in a local Verizon kiosk at my mall and tried the quick commands on another Note. Worked perfectly. They said I'd have to call Customer Service to get a replacement. (Note: The employee didn't even know about the feature!) So I called Verizon (*611) and spoke with a "head tech" (whatever that means). He had no idea what was going on esp. given the factory reset I tried. He said the only option was to get a new device or try a different Gmail account (which I really don't want to move my stuff to a new one). Because the Note is an "iconic" device, they wouldn't ship me one unless I prepaid for it (then would be reimbursed when they received my "defective" phone. So I planned to pick up a new one on Thursday.
Thursday: I picked up a new one. After logging into my Gmail account during activation, I tried QC again...still no go. The employee there again had no idea about the feature, but suggested maybe I ought to try a different Gmail account. I said I would later (I had another appointment). So later, I skipped adding my Gmail account (after doing a factory reset) and BAM...Quick Commands worked! But what about my Gmail account....I added it after activation, and BAM-quick commands doesn't work again. THUS THE PROBLEM LIES WITH MY GMAIL ACCOUNT.
I want to note that I use two step authentication (through Google). Is this the problem? Do any of you use two step authentication with Gmail? I'd still love for QC to work, but do I want to sacrifice security for my main digital account to use it? (I'm going to try to post on Samsung's site about the problem).

So its the Damn Gmail account huh!! That's a shocker!! I definitely ain't gonna delete my Gmail account just for quick command. Everything else with the S-pen works. Well I guess I'll hol off on returning my Note.. Lol. I froze the Samsung keyboard in Titanium backup so I could use Swiftkey 3 so I was beginning to think that was the culprit. Man I've been pulling my hair out over this!! Thanks for the feedback bro!! Looks like I'm keeping my baby..

Samsung chat was pretty useless. They want me to isolate the issue by trying another gmail account. I may try it later (without authentication). Any ideas on how to easily switch gmail accounts if this indeed fixes it?

I also started my own thread on this. Lol. Look a couple posts dow

Did you try to unfreeze the keyboard? You do not need to freeze it to use SwiftKey just select SwiftKey as your default. I had a similar issue but it was fixed with a reboot

Well it's gotten murkier folks...I did yet another factory reset. This time, I tried a different gmail account that has 2 step authentication as well. Guess what? Quick commands worked. So I tried adding my regular gmail (the one giving me fits)-and lo and behold, quick commands stopped working. What would cause this specific gmail account to make quick commands stop working? I've chatted with Samsung (online) and they have no idea. They want me to call voice support. I may tomorrow morning. THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY! Also Sammy tried to say that email is not required for quick commands to work (duh). But I've eliminated options and it certainly is a specific email account causing problems.

Figured it out folks. Got it all working. Something is wonky with some gmail contacts. Here's the fix (this is another forum I posted in):

Anyone use Lookout Security?

Hey, this it's my first time posting and I had a question for you guys.
Does anyone here use Lookout Mobile Security?
I've seen a lot of screenshots of homescreens and I never see the Lookout icon on the notification bar.
Is it not needed or do you guys use
something different?
Thanks for your help!

Why do you think its needed?
Sent from my HTC PH39100
That's a good question. I guess I just downloaded it assuming that I need it. Is the antivirus useless then?
Also, it backs up my pictures/contacts and has the "locate phone" feature. Are there any other apps that can do this?
Thanks

Not sure I need one either, but I have BitDefender Mobile on my phone.

I used this thing for quite a while.....its great in theory. Here are the things that made me un-install it.
1) Could not locate my phone through GPS while indoors
2) website continuously said that message failed to be delivered to my phone while trying to make my device scream.....although I got every one of them and phone would not scream.
3) most importantly while doing batch updates from the market I would have to sit there and watch not only each app being downloaded and installed....but then had to wait for lookout to scan each one...which ultimately made the update process SLLLOOOOWWW.
I initially installed this just for the phone locator service but Wheres My Droid does that and it works great. IDK but maybe the paid version of Lookout is better but WAAAYYYY to expensive for a app that is technically NOT NEEDED.
I use WaveSecure... it does all the same stuff except virus protection. Everytime I've tested it, the lock has worked. I haven't tested the remote wipe feature. Also, I have it set so that once a day, it will backup all my pictures and sms and whatever else it offers backup for. That way, if I have to wipe it, I'll have all my stuff.
I used it for a while on my captivate. I stopped using it because when ever I had it installed the market would stall periodically. It would sit and say it was downloading something. Clearing the market didn't help, but uninstalling lookout would.
I use Google+ to auto upload my pictures, and SMS backup+ to back up SMS and call logs to my gmail account.
I never tried the locate, scream or wipe features so I don't miss them. I did notice WP7 included them built in, and worked well. Apple has integrated some now too. I think its only a matter of time before Google does the same.

Enhanced Email

Are any of you using this app successfully? I'm thinking this awesome app may be what's causing my phone to lock up and randomly reboot.
I've been using it for a couple months but I'm no power user of the app. I get maybe 1 e-mail a day that I either move to a folder or delete.
edit: I'm using Jokers rev 2/test3 rom
I use the app and so does my wife. We are for sure power users averaging 75-200 emails a day across 2-4 accounts. I couldn't handle how the built in app didn't visually differentiate visually what account each email is from (for us it makes a huge difference).
That said my phone does reboot more often than I like. I don't have lockups but I did have instances where I couldn't type or make calls without a reboot, but my wife never has this. I tracked it down to SwiftKey X Keyboard. I have since moved to another keyboard (Flex T9, and ICS Keyboard) and I have eliminated the typing issues.

It's not the app, once again...you have a broken photon lol =/. Good news is, you arent missing much with enhanced email, gmail app gets emails 5-10 minutes faster than enhanced email. I've tried it on two phones, and a tab, all same results. It's a nice idea to have all accounts merged, but with this app, that's all it is, an idea.

I don't think all three replacement phones are broken with the same exact issues. My phone has now been running for four days w/ no issues (the longest yet) after doing a factory reset and installing no apps. This leads me to believe my problems are software related. Now, I'm trying to smoke out the problematic app(s).
Yeah, I've been wondering the same thing, as my Enhanced E-Mail seems to be quite laggy sometimes, and it's almost always the first thing to show the annoying keyboard lock-up, no-dialing issue. However, I use it ALL the time so that may just be an obvious consequence ... at any rate, I'd hate to take it off the phone unless we knew for sure!

I'm glad I am not the only one who gets the keyboard lock-up, no-dialing, random reboot issue. Since I stopped using EE, I have not experienced any of these issues in over a week. In a few more days, I am going to reinstall it to see if the problems return. If they do, then EE is officially the problem in my book! The app is so awesome that I hope it is a different app causing the problems. For me, the other problem app could have been Smart Keyboard Pro. I've since switched to the A.I.Type keyboard which I like better. If no problems return after I reinstall EE then the problems would have been caused by Smart Keyboard Pro on my phone.
A new version of EE (v.1.31.2) was released today! I am going to try it and see if the random reboots return. Since uninstalling EE a few weeks ago, my phone has been running FLAWLESSLY with no reboots! Let's hope that continues after installation. (crossing fingers)
Anyone currently using EE successfully with zero random reboots?
I've been using Kaiten mail for a week, it's perfect in my eyes. Give it a try.

Unfortunately K-9 Mail has weak support for exchange, I connect to two different servers (or it did a few years ago, it still has only WebDAV support) and neither worked with K-9.
On a different note, do you have any reboots with Kaiten?

I used to use Kaiten and K-9. Here are the *main* problems I had with them:
Can't change font color
Can't change font type
Let's say I have 100 emails in my inbox, I scroll down to see email #59, I switch to different app for something, when I return to K-9/Kaiten, the app reloads all of my emails; thus LOSING MY PLACE in the message list. Completely unacceptable!!!
Have these issues been addressed in the latest versions?
I've been interested in using a 3rd party email app (EE, kaiten, k9, maildroid, etc) for multiple Gmail accounts. My only question is if the 3rd party app gets push email just like the stock Gmail app.
honestly, im happy with stock e-mail as I don't type full page novels, but honestly, I have hears nothing but negative on EE!

I haven't had any random reboots but my first gripe about EE is no threaded emails. Am I not seeing a setting in EE for threaded emails?

I don't know about any ROMs that have that baked in, haven't looked for it specifically. However I've always used Enhanced Email which allows you to skip the requirement, used it on the SII E4GT and now also the SIII, works like a charm. Only downside is being locked to EE for exchange email, although it's a pretty great app, so not that big of a deal for me. Just tried out touchdown, which enforces the pin on the app only, so you don't have to lock the whole phone.
If you do find a 'baked in' solution, or ROM hack let me know, I'd be very interested.
Hope this helps a bit.

Getting another GS3

I managed to score a deal with Orange UK after I'd called to cancel my old contract with them (I'm with Three) and they offered me a FREE Galaxy S3 with 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 1.5GB of data for £23.56 (no idea where the 6p comes into it).
This is perfect for my GF, so I took them up on the offer and I'm giving her the phone and contract.
Now, she's been using my old HTC Desire through GiffGaff, of which we barely get a 2G signal around our house and where we live. Anyway, she's made three purchases on her Google account. Swiftkey, Battery Widget reborn and HD Widgets.
She used the Samsung keyboard on my phone a little to test it out (I use Swiftkey myself) and she quite liked that. The battery widget isn't any use for her on the GS3 since you can show the battery percentage next to the icon, but she'd like to keep HD Widgets.
We're giving the HTC Desire to my stepson as his first proper phone as well (he's 13) and the battery widget would be better on his phone and perhaps he could use the Swiftkey instead of my GF.
How do we go about keeping the purchases or moving them to another account? Is this possible?
Or, would it be possible to simply sign my GF into her Google account on her new phone as well as on the HTC Desire (so her account is present on both phones) and therefore both phones can use the apps?
The only tricky thing about that is the Google wallet and my stepson. I don't think he'd make purchases without asking but you just can't be sure!
Help!
You can have the same Google account on two different phones. Yes you can keep your purchases as long as you're logged into the same Google account. Moving app purchases between different accounts isn't possible as far as I know. As for keeping your son from making unnecessary app purchases, there's a setting in Google play that allows you to set a pin for downloading/purchasing apps
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Perfect. Yep just found that setting. "Require pin for user purchases".
That'll do nicely!
EDIT:
It might sound cheap, but can both phones use the same apps? Is there an install limit or something or is it a per account basis?

Nope never heard of an install limit. As long as your account is synced, you can use the same apps. BUT some paid apps are phone specific(purchased for the first phone and you might have to purchase a new license for the second phone). Best thing you can do is give it a test run- log both phones into your gfs Google account and see if you can restore paid apps in both phones. No harm in trying
Edit: I have to point out that your gfs contact data/gmail would be synced into the sons phone if you share the account. Even if you remove them from the sync settings, a 13yr old can always go into the settings and turn it back on

Sure you can use an app like titanium backup to freeze/uninstall it but the app is free on the market and can always be redownloaded. Even if you freeze the app, on the market there's an option to enable it(Just checked that myself)

I'm also checking online. According to Google, you can change your email address and transfer all your stuff over. I also never considered it but there'll be all my GF's contacts on there...
I think it may be a better idea to set up up his own gmail after all this! The widgets and stuff only cost a little anyway.
Yeah just setup his account and link it to your credit card so he can purchase apps with your permission.

the best option would be to sign in, install all the apps you want, and then remove the account from the device. it'll mean no future updates but for a battery widget/swiftkey, i don't really think you'd need them anyway. if a major update does come in, you could just sign in again, install update, and then remove account a second time.

I hate google support.

I would like to complain about my current struggle with Google (since I have no one here to complain to. So I wrote Google a message and said I have a number of purchased programs that give me a download 403 error when i try to download them (geocaching, root explorer, titanium pro, gps status and toolbox pro etc.) and can they help me fix the issue. So they send me a canned response that says that I cannot install the programs because they are from a different userid of mine. So I get a canned response back that tells me there process of how apps are bought and how they are good forever and how you can install them on any devices. So I respond again telling them this is a download issue that I need help with. So I get another canned response that says during these issues you should try to wipe data on the play store and download manager. So I think, ok, this makes sense. I try that and nothing happens. So I respond again and tell them It didn't do anything but I have tried this on at least 6 different devices and it happens on all of them. So I get another canned response that says during issues like this you should delete your account and re-add it and if that doesnt work then wipe your phone to factory reset and try again. Now I am getting pissed. So I respond again and tell them that I just told them that it happens on many devices not just this device and I included a screenshot of the error this time and suggest maybe its having an issue looking up if i bought it and could they reset it so i could buy it again and see if that works. I get another canned response that says, it sounds like you are having issues with these apps, You should contact the developer so they can explain any issues that you dont understand on how their software works. NOW, each one of their responses comes with atleast a page of "We are sorry, we know this is frustrating, blah blah blah" with more detail on how to find the developers address etc." So I have this mile long email trail that's all canned bull sh!t I realize. someone in another post fixed the issue for me. little did I know that just having both accounts added to your device isnt enough, you actually have to pick which account inside google play that you want it to install from. Who knew. 1 year problem solved.

I think this is a good thing to remember for all of Google's apps. Most of their apps, it seems, can be used with multiple accounts that is set within the app, independent of what the main account on the phone is. Recently had a related issue with my Hangouts activity going to the "wrong" phone, just had a set the accounts correctly within the Hangouts app on both phones and all is well again.

I think Google Support is non-existent, and that's the way they've always wanted it. Why do you think Apple does so well? You can walk into ANY Apple store with an Apple product and get fairly good support with $0 cost pretty much anywhere in the USA. I've owned apple products for 4 years and when I've had a (hardware) problem with my device, it took 5 mins at an Apple store to get it replaced. I see why people like Apple. (Left iPhone 5 for Note 3 and am in heaven).
I had a problem with my Google Drive storage - I had that paid user bonus (95gb) and it disappeared one day without warning. So I contacted Google Drive support for paid users. First support guy I talked to responded: "Looks like you don't need the space, bye." LOL, really? That's not the point, it's free space that was gifted to me, I'd like it back. So, I summoned up the courage, contacted support again - and this time got someone who cared and in 2 mins I got my 95GB paid user bonus back. All depends on who you get I guess.
I've always dealt with two user IDs when I had my iPhones (mine and my wife's) and my Google Account (work, personal). Google's double account setup seems a bit more buggy - but I mostly just use it for gmail and hangouts (not apps).
And yes, moral of the story... You can almost always find a quicker, cleaner, faster solution online than contacting support.
Been using multiple accounts across eight devices for the last several years without issue. All I had to do is set up a primary Google account and secondary account from phone settings and didn't have to do anything within Google Play Store app. Can't get any more idiot proof than that.

There is no such thing as idiot proof. Just when you think it is you'll find a bigger idiot.
